Third row rear seat belts
(Grand C4 Picasso)
Requirements for the third row
passenger seat belts
Take care to attach the third-row
passenger seat belts securely to the
rings provided for this purpose.
Do not attach the belts to the an-
chorage points marked with a red
cross, as shown in the illustration. Stowing the tongue of the third-row
seat belt
Secure the tongue in the location
provided on the rear pillar trim.
The third-row passenger seat belts
that are not being used can be
stowed in order to free up loadspace
and facilitate use of the luggage
cover.
Before use
T o a v o i d d a m a g i n g o r j a m m i n g t h e
seat belts, stow them carefully on
the sides of the seat backrests.

Side airbags *
System which protects the driver
and front passenger in the event of
a serious side impact in order to limit
t h e r i s k o f i n j u r y t o t h e c h e s t .
Each side airbag is incorporated in
the front seat back frame, on the
door side.
Operation
It is triggered unilaterally in the
event of a serious side impact ap-
plied to all or part of the side impact
zone
B , perpendicular to the longi-
tudinal centreline of the vehicle on
a horizontal plane and directed from
the outside towards the inside of the
vehicle.

Curtain airbags *
System which protects the driver a n d p a s s e n g e r s ( w i t h t h e e x c e p t i o n of the rear centre passenger) in the event of a serious side impact in or- d e r t o l i m i t t h e r i s k o f h e a d i n j u r i e s .
Each curtain airbag is incorporated in the pillars and the upper part of the passenger compartment.
Operation
It is triggered at the same time as the corresponding side airbag in the event of a serious side impact applied to all or part of the side impact zone B , per-pendicular to the longitudinal centreli-ne of the vehicle on a horizontal plane and directed from the outside towards the inside of the vehicle.
T h e c u r t a i n a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n the front or rear occupant of the ve-hicle and the windows.
In the event of a minor impact or
bump on the side of the vehicle or
if the vehicle rolls over, the airbag
may not be triggered.
The airbag is not triggered in the
event of a rear or front collision.
Operating fault
If this warning lamp comes on in the instrument panel, accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction screen, contact a CITROËN dealer to have the sys-the multifunction screen, contact a
tem checked. The airbags may no longer be triggered in the event of a serious impact.

Automatic application,
engine off
With the vehicle stationary, the park-
ing brake is automatically applied
when the engine is switched off.
The application of the parking brake

Automatic release
The electric parking brake releases
automatically and progressively
when you press the accelerator:
Manual gearbox ( fi r s t g e a r o r
reverse gear engaged): press
down fully on the clutch pedal
then press on the accelerator
pedal and move off.
Automatic gearbox : accelerate
with the selector in position D ,
M or R .
Electronic gearbox : accelerate
with the selector in position A ,
M or R .
Full release of the parking brake is
c o n fi r m e d b y : -
the extinction of warning
lamp P on control lever A
and on the instrument panel,
- the display of a message "hand- brake off" on the multifunction
screen.
When stationary, with the
engine running, do not
press the accelerator pedal
unnecessarily, as you may
release the parking brake.
Maximum application
If necessary, you can utilise
maxi-
mum application of the parking
brake. It is obtained by means of a
long pull on control lever A , until
you see the message "handbrake
on" and a beep is heard.
Maximum application is essential:
- in the case of a vehicle towing a caravan or a trailer, if the au-
tomatic functions are activated
but you are applying the parking
brake manually,
- when the gradient you are parked on is variable in its effect (e.g. on
a ferry, in a lorry, during towing),
- in the case of towing, a loaded vehicle or parking on a gradient,
turn the front wheels towards the
pavement and engage a gear
when you park,
- after a maximum application, the release time will be longer.
Before leaving the vehicle,
check that warning lamp P
on the instrument panel is
permanently lit.
Never leave a child alone inside the
vehicle with the ignition on, as they
could release the parking brake.

screen (except NaviDrive).
The normal operating sound will con-
fi r m t o y o u t h e a p p l i c a t i o n / r e l e a s e o f
your electric parking brake.

To immobilise the vehicle,
engine running
With the engine running and the ve-
hicle stationary, in order to immobi-
lise the vehicle you need to manually
apply the parking brake by pulling
on control lever A .
The application of the parking brake
i s c o n fi r m e d b y : - the lighting of warning lamp P on control A and
on the instrument panel,
- the display of a message "hand- brake on" on the multifunction
screen.
When the driver’s door is opened, a
beep is heard and a message dis-
played if the parking brake has not
been applied.
Before leaving the vehicle,
check that warning lamp P
on the instrument panel is
permanently lit. Particular situations
In certain situations (e.g. starting
the engine), the parking brake can
automatically alter its force. This is
normal operation.
To advance your vehicle (towing,
etc.) without starting the engine, but
with the ignition on, press on the
brake pedal and release the park-
ing brake
by pulling then releasing
control lever A .
The full release of the parking
b r a k e i s c o n fi r m e d b y t h e e x t i n c -
tion of warning lamp P (red) on the
instrument panel and the display of
a message "handbrake off" on the
multifunction screen.
If the parking brake malfunctions
while applied or if the battery runs
fl a t , a n e m e r g e n c y r e l e a s e i s a l w a y s
possible.
Activation/Deactivation of the
automatic functions *
The automatic application when the en-
gine is switched off and the automatic
release when you press the accelerator
can be deactivated. Activation/deacti-
v a t i o n i s p e r f o r m e d u s i n g t h e c o n fi g u -
ration menu of the multifunction screen.
To do so, select "Personalisation/
C o n fi g u r a t i o n / D e fi n e t h e V e h i c l e p a -
rameters/Driving assistance/Automatic
handbrake."
The deactivation of these
f u n c t i o n s i s c o n fi r m e d b y t h e
lighting of this warning lamp
on the instrument panel.
With the automatic functions
deactivated, the application and
release of the parking brake are
done manually.
