S A F E T Y
For the airbags to be fully
effective, observe the following
safety rules: Front airbags
Do not drive holding the steering
wheel by its spokes or resting your
hands on the centre part of the
wheel.
Passengers must not place their feet
on the dashboard.
If possible, do not smoke as deploy-
ment of the airbags can cause burns
or the risk of injury from a cigarette
or pipe.
Never remove or pierce the steering
wheel or hit it violently.
Lateral airbags
Use only approved covers on the
s e a t s . T h e s e w i l l n o t h i n d e r i n fl a -
tion of the lateral airbags. Consult a
CITROËN dealer.
D o n o t fi x o r a t t a c h a n y t h i n g t o t h e
seat backs (clothing...). This could
cause injury to the chest or arms if
the lateral airbag is triggered.
Do not sit with the upper part of the
body any nearer to the door than
necessary. Curtain airbags
D o n o t fi x o r a t t a c h a n y t h i n g t o
the roof. This could cause injury
to the head if the curtain airbag is
triggered.
Do not remove the grab handles in-
stalled on the roof, they play a part
in securing the curtain airbags.
Sit in a normal upright position.
Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt.
Do not leave anything between the
occupants and the airbags (a child,
pet, object...). This could hamper the
operation of the airbags or injure the
occupants.
After an accident or if the vehicle has
been stolen or broken into, have the
airbag systems checked.
All work on the airbag system is strict-
ly forbidden unless it is carried out by
q u a l i fi e d p e r s o n n e l o f t h e C I T R O Ë N
dealer network.
Even if all of the precautions men-
tioned are observed, a risk of injury
or of minor burns to the head, chest
or arms when an airbag is triggered
c a n n o t b e r u l e d o u t . T h e b a g i n fl a t e s
almost instantly (within a few millisec-
o n d s ) t h e n d e fl a t e s w i t h i n t h e s a m e
time discharging the hot gas via open-
ings provided for this purpose.

ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE
The electric parking brake operates
as follows:
- Automatic application/release
Application is automatic when the engine stops, release is automatic
on use of the accelerator.
- Manual application/release
Manual application/release of the parking brake is possible
by pulling control lever A while
pressing the brake pedal. Manual application
With the vehicle stationary, to apply
the parking brake whether the engine
is running or not,
pull control lever A . Manual release
With the ignition on or the engine
running, to release the parking
brake, press on the brake pedal, or
the accelerator,
pull then release
control lever A .
-
the extinction of the warning
lamp P in control lever A and
in the instrument panel,
- the display of a message "Handbrake off" in the multifunc-
tion screen.
The application of the parking brake

- the lighting of the warn-ing lamp P in control
lever A and in the instru-
ment panel,
- the display of a message "Handbrake on" in the multifunc-
tion screen.
When the driver’s door is
opened with the engine running,
a beep is heard and a message
displayed if the parking brake has not
been applied.
Before getting out of the vehicle, check
that the warning lamp P i s o n fi x e d i n t h e
i n s t r u m e n t p a n e l ( n o t fl a s h i n g ) .
The full application of the parking
b r a k e i s c o n fi r m e d b y :
If you pull control lever A
without pressing the brake
pedal, the parking brake
will not be released and
the "Foot on brake" warn-
ing lamp will come on in
the instrument panel.

Automatic application,
engine off
With the vehicle stationary, the park-
ing brake is automatically applied
when the engine is switched off.
The application of the parking brake

Automatic release
The electric parking brake releases
automatically and progressively
when you press the accelerator:
Manual gearbox ( fi r s t g e a r o r
reverse gear engaged) : press
down fully on the clutch pedal
then press on the accelerator
pedal and move off.
Automatic gearbox : accelerate
with the selector in position D , M
or R .
Electronic gearbox : accelerate
with the selector in position A , M
or R .
Full release of the parking brake is
c o n fi r m e d b y : - the extinction of warning lamp P in control lever A
and in the instrument
panel,
- the display of a message "Handbrake off" in the multifunc-
tion screen.
When stationary, with the engine
running, do not press the acceler-
ator pedal unnecessarily, as you
may release the parking brake.
Maximum application
If necessary, you can use maximum
application of the parking brake. It
is obtained by means of a long pull
on control lever A , until you see the
message "Handbrake on" and an
audible signal is heard.
Maximum application is essential:
- when towing a caravan or a trail- er, if the automatic functions are
activated but you are applying
the parking brake manually,
- when the gradient you are parked on is variable in its effect (e.g. on
a f e r r y , i n a l o r r y , d u r i n g t o w i n g ) ,
- when towing, when loaded or when parking on a gradient, turn
the front wheels towards the
pavement and engage a gear
when you park,
- after a maximum application, the release time will be longer.
Before leaving the vehicle,
check that warning lamp P
in the instrument panel is
o n fi x e d , n o t fl a s h i n g .
Never leave a child alone inside the
vehicle with the ignition on, as they
could release the parking brake.

The normal operating sound will con-
fi r m t o y o u t h e a p p l i c a t i o n / r e l e a s e o f
the electric parking brake.

To immobilise the vehicle,
engine running
To immobilise the vehicle when sta-
tionary with the engine running, you
must apply the parking brake manu-
ally by pulling on control lever A .
The application of the parking brake

in the instrument panel,
- the display of a message "Handbrake on" in the multifunc-
tion screen.
When the driver’s door is opened, a

In certain situations (e.g. starting
t h e e n g i n e ) , t h e p a r k i n g b r a k e c a n
automatically alter its force. This is
normal operation.
To move your vehicle without start-
i n g t h e e n g i n e ( t o w i n g , e t c . . . ) , b u t
with the
ignition on , press the brake
pedal and release the parking brake
by pulling then releasing control
lever A .
The full release of the parking

tion of warning lamp P ( r e d ) i n t h e
instrument panel and the display of
a message "Handbrake off" in the
multifunction screen.
If the parking brake malfunctions
while applied or if the battery runs
fl a t , a n e m e r g e n c y r e l e a s e r e m a i n s
possible.
Activation/Deactivation of the
automatic functions *
The automatic application when
the engine is switched off and the
automatic release when you press
the accelerator can be deactivated.
Activation/deactivation is performed
u s i n g t h e c o n fi g u r a t i o n m e n u o f t h e
multifunction screen. To do so, se-
lect "Vehicle parameters/Comfort/
Automatic handbrake."
The deactivation of these
f u n c t i o n s i s c o n fi r m e d b y t h e
lighting of this warning lamp
on the instrument panel.
* According to country
The deactivation of these func-
t i o n s i s c o n fi r m e d b y t h e l i g h t i n g o f
this warning lamp in the instrument
panel. With the automatic functions
deactivated, the application and re-
lease of the parking brake are done
manually.
