SEAT BELTS
Front seat belts
T h e f r o n t s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a
p r e t e n s i o n i n g s y s t e m a n d f o r c e l i m i t e r .
T h i s s y s t e m i m p r o v e s s a f e t y i n t h e f r o n t
s e a t s i n t h e e v e n t o f a f r o n t i m p a c t .
D e p e n d i n g o n t h e s e r i o u s n e s s o f t h e
i m p a c t , t h e p r e t e n s i o n i n g s y s t e m i n -
stantly tightens the seat belt against
t h e b o d y o f t h e o c c u p a n t . Fastening
P u l l t h e b e l t d o w n i n f r o n t o f y o u
i n a s t e a d y m o v e m e n t , m a k i n g
s u r e t h a t i t d o e s n o t b e c o m e
twisted.
P r e s s t h e f a s t e n i n g i n t o i t s b u c k l e .
C h e c k t h a t i t i s p r o p e r l y s e c u r e d
a n d t h a t t h e a u t o m a t i c l o c k i n g
m e c h a n i s m o p e r a t e s c o r r e c t l y
b y p u l l i n g s h a r p l y o n t h e b e l t
strap.
T h e l a p s t r a p s h o u l d b e p o s i -
tioned as low down as possible in
the lap and as tight as possible.
T h e d i a g o n a l s t r a p s h o u l d b e
positioned across the chest and
a w a y f r o m t h e n e c k .
E a c h b e l t h a s a r e e l t h a t a d j u s t s i t s
l e n g t h a u t o m a t i c a l l y t o t h e g i r t h o f
t h e s e a t o c c u p a n t .
The pretensioning seat belts are ac-
tive when the ignition is on.
T h e f o r c e l i m i t e r r e d u c e s t h e p r e s -
s u r e o f t h e s e a t b e l t a g a i n s t t h e
c h e s t o f t h e o c c u p a n t , s o i n c r e a s i n g
his protection.
Reactivation
T h e s e s y s t e m s a r e r e a c t i v a t e d a u -
t o m a t i c a l l y e a c h t i m e t h e i g n i t i o n i s
s w i t c h e d b a c k o n o r f r o m 3 0 m p h
( 5 0 k m / h ) .
Press the "ESP OFF" b u t t o n a g a i n
t o r e a c t i v a t e t h e m m a n u a l l y .
Operating fault

AIRBAGS
S y s t e m d e s i g n e d t o m a x i m i s e t h e
s a f e t y o f t h e o c c u p a n t s ( w i t h t h e
e x c e p t i o n o f t h e r e a r c e n t r e p a s -
senger) in the event of violent col-
l i s i o n s . I t s u p p l e m e n t s t h e a c t i o n o f
t h e f o r c e - l i m i t i n g s e a t b e l t s .
I f a c o l l i s i o n o c c u r s , t h e e l e c t r o n i c
detectors record and analyse the
f r o n t a n d s i d e i m p a c t s s u s t a i n e d i n
t h e i m p a c t d e t e c t i o n z o n e s :
- i n t h e c a s e o f a s e r i o u s i m p a c t ,
the airbags are triggered instant-
l y a n d p r o t e c t t h e o c c u p a n t s o f
t h e v e h i c l e ( w i t h t h e e x c e p t i o n o f
t h e r e a r c e n t r e p a s s e n g e r ) ; i m -
m e d i a t e l y a f t e r t h e i m p a c t , t h e
a i r b a g s d e fl a t e r a p i d l y s o t h a t
they do not hinder visibility or the
e x i t o f t h e o c c u p a n t s ,
- i n t h e c a s e o f a m i n o r o r r e a r i m p a c t o r i n c e r t a i n r o l l - o v e r
conditions, the airbags will not
be triggered; the seat belt alone
i s s u f fi c i e n t t o p r o v i d e o p t i m u m
p r o t e c t i o n i n t h e s e s i t u a t i o n s .
The airbags do not operate
when the ignition is switched
off.
T h i s e q u i p m e n t w i l l o n l y o p e r a t e
o n c e . I f a s e c o n d i m p a c t o c c u r s ( d u r -
i n g t h e s a m e o r a s u b s e q u e n t a c c i -
dent), the airbag will not operate. Impact detection zones

B. S i d e i m p a c t z o n e . Triggering of the airbag(s) is ac-
c o m p a n i e d b y a s l i g h t e m i s s i o n o f
h a r m l e s s s m o k e a n d a n o i s e , d u e t o
the activation of the pyrotechnic car-
t r i d g e i n c o r p o r a t e d i n t h e s y s t e m .
T h i s s m o k e i s n o t h a r m f u l , b u t s e n -
s i t i v e i n d i v i d u a l s m a y e x p e r i e n c e
slight irritation.
T h e n o i s e o f t h e d e t o n a t i o n m a y
r e s u l t i n a s l i g h t l o s s o f h e a r i n g f o r
a s h o r t t i m e .

Front airbags
S y s t e m w h i c h p r o t e c t s t h e h e a d a n d
chest of the driver and front passen-
g e r i n t h e e v e n t o f a f r o n t i m p a c t .
T h e d r i v e r ' s a i r b a g i s i n c o r p o r a t e d
in the centre of the steering wheel;
t h e f r o n t p a s s e n g e r ' s a i r b a g i s i n c o r -
porated in the dashboard above the
g l o v e b o x .
Activation
T h e a i r b a g s a r e t r i g g e r e d s i m u l t a n e -
o u s l y , u n l e s s t h e p a s s e n g e r ' s f r o n t
airbag is deactivated, in the event of
a s e r i o u s f r o n t i m p a c t t o a l l o r p a r t o f
t h e f r o n t i m p a c t z o n e A , in the lon-
g i t u d i n a l c e n t r e l i n e o f t h e v e h i c l e o n
a h o r i z o n t a l p l a n e a n d d i r e c t e d f r o m
the front to the rear of the vehicle.
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n t h e
f r o n t o c c u p a n t o f t h e v e h i c l e a n d t h e
d a s h b o a r d t o c u s h i o n t h e i r f o r w a r d
m o v e m e n t . Deactivation
T h i s w a r n i n g l a m p c o m e s o n
on the roof console display
w h e n t h e i g n i t i o n i s o n a n d u n -
til the air bag is reactivated.
T o g u a r a n t e e t h e s a f e t y o f y o u r
c h i l d , i t i s i m p e r a t i v e t h a t t h e p a s -
senger airbag is deactivated when
y o u i n s t a l l a " r e a r w a r d s - f a c i n g " c h i l d
seat on the front passenger seat.
O t h e r w i s e , t h e c h i l d w o u l d r i s k b e -
i n g s e r i o u s l y i n j u r e d o r k i l l e d i f t h e
airbag were triggered. Activation
W h e n y o u r e m o v e t h e c h i l d s e a t , t u r n
switch
1 to the "ON" position to re-
a c t i v a t e t h e a i r b a g a n d s o g u a r a n t e e
t h e s a f e t y o f y o u r f r o n t p a s s e n g e r i n
t h e e v e n t o f a n i m p a c t .
Operating fault
I f t h i s s y m b o l a p p e a r s o n
t h e i n s t r u m e n t p a n e l s c r e e n ,
a c c o m p a n i e d b y a n a u d i b l e
w a r n i n g a n d a m e s s a g e ,
c o n t a c t a C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r t o h a v e
t h e s y s t e m c h e c k e d . T h e a i r b a g s
m a y n o l o n g e r b e t r i g g e r e d i n t h e
e v e n t o f a s e r i o u s i m p a c t .
O n l y t h e f r o n t p a s s e n g e r ' s a i r b a g
can be deactivated:
with the ignition off , insert the
key in the passenger airbag de-
activation switch 1 ,
t u r n i t t o t h e "OFF" position,
t h e n , r e m o v e t h e k e y k e e p i n g
the switch in this position. I f t h i s w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s ,

ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE
The electric parking brake combines
2 operational modes:
- AUTOMATIC
Automatic application when the engine stops and automatic re-
lease on use of the accelerator
(automatic operation by default),
- MANUAL
Manual application/release of the parking brake is always pos-
sible by pulling control A while
pressing the brake pedal. Automatic operation
Application with the engine off
With the vehicle stationary, the park-
ing brake
is automatically applied
when the engine is switched off.
The application of the parking brake

Application with the engine running
With the engine running and the ve-
hicle stationary, in order to immobil-
ise the vehicle you need to manually
apply the parking brake by pulling
on control A .
The application of the parking brake
i s c o n fi r m e d b y :
- the lighting of the warning
lamp on control A and on
the instrument panel,
Before leaving the vehicle,
check that warning lamp P on
the instrument panel is per-
manently lit.
Never leave a child alone inside the
vehicle with the ignition on, as they
could release the parking brake.

screen.

When the driver’s door is opened, a
beep is heard and a message dis-
played if the parking brake has not
been applied.
Before leaving the vehicle,
check that warning lamp P on
the instrument panel is per-
manently lit.

Release
With the ignition on or the engine
running, to release the parking
brake, press on the brake pedal,
push then release control A .
The full application of the parking
b r a k e i s c o n fi r m e d b y :
- the warning lamp on con- trol A and the warning
lamp P on the instrument
panel going off,
- the display of a message "park- ing brake released" on the instru-
ment panel screen.
If you push control A without pressing the brake pedal, the parking brake
will not be released and the message
"Apply foot on brake" will be dis-
played on the instrument panel.
When stationary, with the en-
gine running, do not press the
accelerator pedal unneces-
sarily, as you may release the
parking brake. Maximum application
If necessary, you can utilise
maxi-
mum application of the parking
brake. It is obtained by means of a
long pull on control A , until you see
the message "Max application of the
handbrake" and a beep is heard.
Maximum application is essential:
- in the case of a vehicle towing a caravan or a trailer, if the au-
tomatic functions are activated
but you are applying the parking
brake manually,
-
when the gradient you are parked on is variable in its effect (e.g. on
a ferry, in a lorry, during towing).
- in the case of towing, a loaded vehicle or parking on a gradient,
turn the front wheels towards the
pavement and engage a gear
when you park.
- after a maximum application, the release time will be longer. Particular situations
In certain situations (starting the en-
gine...), the parking brake can auto-
matically alter its level of application.
This is normal operation.
To advance your vehicle a few cen-
timetres without starting the engine,
but with the ignition on, press on the
brake pedal and release the parking
brake
by pushing then releasing
control A .
The full release of the parking brake
i s c o n fi r m e d b y t h e w a r n i n g l a m p P
(red) on the instrument panel going
off and the display of a message
"handbrake off" on the instrument
panel screen.
If the parking brake malfunctions
while applied o r i f t h e b a t t e r y i s fl a t ,
an emergency release is still pos-
sible.
To ensure correct operation of the
parking brake and therefore your
safety, the number of successive
application/release operations is
limited to eight.
If this number is exceeded, you are
warned by the message "Parking
brake faulty" and a warning lamp
fl a s h e s .

Immobilise the vehicle by plac-
ing a chock at the front or at the
rear of one of the rear wheels.
Open the lower compartment of
the centre armrest by pulling it.
Ensure that the cup holder B is
folded away.
Remove the rubber mat covering
the base of the armrest. This strap does not permit
application of the parking
brake.
To re-engage the electric parking
brake (after rectifying the malfunc-
tion or battery failure), give a long
pull on the control A until the park-
i n g b r a k e w a r n i n g l a m p ( ! ) fl a s h e s
on the instrument panel then give a
second long pull until this warning
lamp is lit permanently.
The time required for the subse-
quent application may be longer
than during normal operation.
It is essential that the ignition is
not switched on until the parking
b r a k e h a s r e - e n g a g e d ( fl a s h i n g o f
the warning lamp (!) on the instru-
ment panel then warning lamp lit
permanently) to avoid damage to
the parking brake.
Take care not to allow moisture or
dust in the proximity of the diagnos-
tic socket D which is essential for
the maintenance of your vehicle.
Release the strap from its loca-
tion C .
Pull the strap to release the
b r a k e . A l o u d k n o c k c o n fi r m s t h e
release of the brake.
Take care to put the strap
back in its location C correctly.
Otherwise, it will no longer be
possible to apply the brake.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
Put the rubber mat back in place
on the base of the armrest.

4 Display of messages "
Parking brake faulty "
and " Anti roll-back
fault " and of the follow-
ing warning lamps:
a n d / o r fl a s h i n g - The automatic functions are deactivated.
- The hill start assist is unavailable.
To apply the electric parking brake:
Immobilise the vehicle and switch off the ignition
Pull the control lever for at least 5 seconds or until maximum
application.
S w i t c h o n t h e i g n i t i o n a n d c h e c k t h a t t h e e l e c t r i c p a r k i n g b r a k e
warning lamps are on.
- Application may take longer than in normal operation.
- If warning lamp (!) fl a s h e s o r i f t h e w a r n i n g l a m p s d o n o t c o m e
on when the ignition is switched on, this method does not work.
Have it checked by a CITROËN dealer.
To release the electric parking brake:
S w i t c h o n t h e i g n i t i o n .
Push the control lever and hold it for approximately 3 seconds.
5 Display of message "
Parking brake control
faulty – automatic mode activated " and the
following warning lamps:
a n d / o r fl a s h i n g - Only the functions for automatic application on switchi
ng off the
engine and automatic release on acceleration are available.
- Manual application/release of the electric parking brake a nd
dynamic emergency braking are unavailable.
6 Display of message "
Parking brake faulty "
and of the following warning lamp:
fl a s h i n g - Application of the parking brake is not guaranteed.
- The parking brake is temporarily unavailable.
It this situation arises:
Wait approximately 3 minutes.
A f t e r 3 m i n u t e s , i f t h e w a r n i n g l a m p i s s t i l l fl a s h i n g , t r y t o r e i n i -
tialise the parking brake, either by pushing and releasing th e
control A while pressing the brake pedal or by means of a long
pull on control A .
7 Battery fault - Lighting of the battery warning lamp ma
kes it essential to stop
t h e v e h i c l e a s s o o n a s t r a f fi c a l l o w s . S t o p a n d i m m o b i l i s e y o u r
vehicle.
- Apply the electric parking brake before switch ing off the engine.

Never select positions P or R
if the vehicle is not stationary.
If, while the vehicle is moving, po-
sition N is engaged inadvertently,
allow the engine to idle before en-
gaging position D or M .
Moving off
To start the engine, the gear le-
ver must be in position P or N .
Operate the starter.
When the engine is running,
place the gear lever on R , D or
M as required.
Check, in the instrument panel,
the position engaged.
Release the brake pedal and ac-
celerate.
To avoid a possible difference
between the position of the gear
lever and the actual position of
the gearbox, always exit from
position P with the ignition on
and brake pedal applied.
Otherwise, when the ignition is on or
the engine is running:
reposition the gear lever in posi-
tion P ,
put your foot on the brake pedal
and then select the gear you
want. Park
This position of the gear le-
ver is used to prevent the
vehicle from moving when
you are stationary.
To select position P , move the
gear lever back to the highest
position (towards R ), then push
it forwards and then to the left.
To exit position P , move the gear
lever to the right and then to the
position you want.
Only engage this position when
the vehicle is completely sta-
tionary. In this position, the front
wheels are locked. Make sure
that the gear lever is correctly
positioned. Reverse gear
Only engage this position
when the vehicle is station-
ary. To prevent snatching,
do not accelerate too soon
after selection.
Neutral Never select position N if
the vehicle is moving.

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM
S y s t e m w h i c h d e t e c t s t h e i n v o l u n -
t a r y c r o s s i n g o f l o n g i t u d i n a l t r a f fi c
lane markings on the ground (solid
or broken line).
S e n s o r s , fi t t e d b e l o w t h e f r o n t b u m -
per, trigger a warning if the vehicle
drifts over a lane marking (speed
higher than 50 mph (80 km/h)).
This system is particularly useful on
motorways and main roads.
Activation
Press button A , the indicator
lamp comes on.
Deactivation
Press button A again, the indica-
tor lamp switches off.
The status of the system remains
in the memory when the ignition is
switched off. Detection
You are warned by the vibration of
the driver's seat cushion:
- on the right-hand side, if the
marking on the ground has been
crossed on the right,
- on the left-hand side, if the mark- ing on the ground has been
crossed on the left.
No warning is transmitted while the
direction indicator is active and for
approximately 20 seconds after the
direction indicator is switched off.
A warning may be transmitted if a direc-
tion marking (e.g. arrow) or non-stan-
d a r d m a r k i n g ( e . g . g r a f fi t i ) i s c r o s s e d . Operating fault
In the event of a malfunction, the
service warning lamp comes on,
accompanied by an audible signal
and a message on the multifunction
screen.
Consult a CITROËN dealer.
The lane departure warning sys-
tem cannot, in any circumstances,
replace the need for vigilance and
responsibility on the part of the
driver.
The detection may be impeded:
- if the sensors are dirty (mud, snow...),
- if the markings on the ground are worn,
- if there is little contrast between the markings on the ground and
the road surface.

Operation
Y o u h a v e i d e n t i fi e d a p a r k i n g s p a c e :
Press button A to select the func-
tion.
Activate the direction indicator
on the side where the space is to
be measured.
During measurement, go for-
ward the length of the space, at
a speed less than 12 mph (ap-
prox. 20 km/h), to prepare for
your manoeuvre.
The system then measures the size
of the space.
The system informs you of the
l e v e l o f d i f fi c u l t y o f t h e m a n o e u -
vre via a message on the instru-
ment panel screen accompanied
by a gong.
Depending on the message is-
sued by the system, you may or
may not be able to perform the
manoeuvre. The function displays the following
types of message:
Parking YES
P a r k i n g d i f fi c u l t
Parking NO The function deselects itself auto-
matically:
- when you engage reverse gear,
- when you switch off the ignition,
- if measurement is not requested,
- w i t h i n fi v e m i n u t e s o f s e l e c t i o n o f
the function,
- if the vehicle speed exceeds the
threshold of 45 mph (approx.
70 km/h) for one minute.
If the lateral distance between your
vehicle and the parking space is too
large, the system may not be able to
measure the space.
The function remains available after
each measurement and thus can
measure more than one space du-
ring your search.
In bad weather conditions or in
winter, make sure that the sensors
are not covered by dirt, or by ice or
snow.
The parking space sensor function
deactivates the front parking ses-
nors during space measurement
when you are in forward gear.
If there is a malfunction, have the
system checked by a CITROËN
dealer.
