STOP & START
T h e S t o p & S t a r t s y s t e m p u t s t h e e n -
g i n e t e m p o r a r i l y o n s t a n d b y - S T O P
m o d e - d u r i n g s t o p s i n t h e t r a f fi c
( r e d l i g h t s , t r a f fi c j a m s , o r o t h e r . . . ) .
The engine restarts automatically -
S T A R T m o d e - a s s o o n a s y o u w a n t
to move off. The restart takes place
instantly, quickly and silently.
P e r f e c t f o r u r b a n u s e , t h e S t o p &
S t a r t s y s t e m r e d u c e s f u e l c o n s u m p -
t i o n a n d e x h a u s t e m i s s i o n s a s w e l l
as the noise level when stationary.
Operation
- with the 6-speed electronic
gearbox system, at speeds be-
low 4 mph (6 km/h), press the
brake pedal or put the selector
lever in position N .
Going into engine STOP mode
The "ECO" warning lamp
comes on in the instrument
panel and the engine goes
into standby: I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d
with the system, a time
counter calculates the
sum of the periods in
S T O P m o d e d u r i n g a j o u r n e y . I t r e s t s
itself to zero every time the ignition
is switched on with the key.
For your comfort, during parking
m a o e u v r e s , S T O P m o d e i s n o t a v a i l -
able for a few seconds after coming
out of reverse gear.
S T O P m o d e d o e s n o t a f f e c t t h e f u n c -
t i o n a l i t y o f t h e v e h i c l e , s u c h a s f o r e x -
ample, braking, power steering...
Never refuel with the engine
i n S T O P m o d e ; y o u m u s t
switch off the ignition with the key. Special cases: STOP mode
unavailable
In this case, the "ECO"
w a r n i n g l a m p fl a s h e s f o r a
few seconds then goes off.
This operation is perfectly normal.
S T O P m o d e i s n o t i n v o k e d w h e n :
- the driver's door is open,
- the driver's seat belt is not fas-
tened,
- t h e v e h i c l e h a s n o t e x c e e d e d 6 mph (10 km/h) since the last
engine start using the key,
- the electric parking brake is ap- plied or being applied,
- the engine is needed to maintain a comfortable temperature in the
passenger compartment,
- demisting is active,
- some special conditions (bat- tery charge, engine tempera-
ture, braking assistance, ambient
temperature...) where the engine
is needed to assure control of a
system.

Check all of these levels regularly
and top them up if necessary, unless
otherwise indicated.
I f a l e v e l d r o p s s i g n i fi c a n t l y , h a v e t h e
corresponding system checked by a
CITROËN dealer.

O i l s p e c i fi c a t i o n
The oil must correspond to your en-
gine and conform to the manufac-
turer's recommendations. Brake fluid level
Fluid change
Refer to the Maintenance and
Warranty Guide for details of the in-
terval for this operation.
T h i s fl u i d m u s t b e c h a n g e d r e g u l a r -
ly. Fluid which has been used exces-
sively may cause a loss of braking
e f fi c i e n c y .
F l u i d s p e c i fi c a t i o n
T h e b r a k e fl u i d m u s t c o n f o r m t o t h e
manufacturer's recommendations
and meet the DOT4 standard.
The reading will only be
correct if the vehicle is on
level ground and the engine
has been off for more than
1 5 m i n u t e s .
The check is carried out either when
the ignition is switched on using the
oil level indicator on the instrument
panel, or using the dipstick.
Check this level also between each
scheduled service and before long
journeys.
Take care when doing anything un-
der the bonnet, as some parts of the
engine can be extremely hot (risk of
burns). T h e b r a k e fl u i d l e v e l s h o u l d
be close to the "MAX" mark.
If it is not, check the brake
pad wear.
In order to maintain the reli-
ability of the engine and emis-
sion control system, the use
of additives in the engine oil is
prohibited. Power steering fluid or power

Dipstick
There are 2 marks on the
dipstick:

A = max; never exceed
this level,
- B = min; top up the
l e v e l v i a t h e o i l fi l l e r
cap, using the type
of oil suited to your
engine.
