order to avoid any risk of scalding,
unscrew the cap two turns to allow
the pressure to drop.
When the pressure has dropped,
remove the cap and top up the level.
Contact a CITROËN dealer .
COOLANT TEMPERATURE INDICATOR
I n z o n e A , the temperature is correct.
I n z o n e B , the temperature is too high.
The central STOP warning light and
the maximum coolant temperature
warning light 1 come on, accompanied
b y a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l a n d t h e m e s s a g e
"Engine coolant temp. too high" on
the display.
You must stop immediately.
W a i t f o r t h e e n g i n e t o c o o l b e f o r e
topping up the level.
The cooling system is pressurised.
With monochrome screen

INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAY
After switching on the ignition, three
functions are shown in succession:
- service indicator,
- engine oil level indicator
(see corresponding section),
- total distance recorder (total and trip distances).
I t a l s o d i s p l a y s t h e a u t o m a t i c g e a r b o x
positions and programmes selected
(see opposite).
The total and trip distances are
displayed for thirty seconds, when
the ignition is switched off, on
opening the driver’s door as well as on
locking and unlocking the vehicle.

Zero re-set
Your CITROËN dealer carries out this
operation after each service.
However, if you carry out the service
yourself, the re-set procedure is as
follows:
- Switch off the ignition,
- Press and hold the trip recorder r e s e t b u t t o n ,
- Switch on the ignition.
T h e d i s p l a y b e g i n s a c o u n t d o w n .
When the display shows " = 0 " , release
t h e b u t t o n ; t h e s p a n n e r d i s a p p e a r s .
Engine oil level indicator
When the ignition is switched on, the
engine oil level is indicated for a few
seconds, after the service information. Oil level correct
Lack of oil
Flashing of
"OIL" ,
linked with the
service warning light,
a c c o m p a n i e d b y a n
a u d i b l e s i g n a l a n d a m e s s a g e o n t h e
display, indicates a lack of oil which
could damage the engine.
I f t h e l a c k o f o i l i s c o n fi r m e d b y a c h e c k
using the dipstick, it is essential that
the level is topped up.
Oil level gauge fault
Flashing of "OIL --"
indicates a
malfunction of the
engine oil level gauge.
Consult a CITROËN dealer. Dipstick
A = maximum, never exceed
this level as a surplus of oil
may damage the engine.
Contact a CITROËN dealer
without delay.
B = minimum, top up the level
v i a t h e o i l fi l l e r c a p , u s i n g
the type of oil suited to your
engine.
Trip recorder zero
reset button
With the ignition on, press
t h e b u t t o n u n t i l t h e z e r o s
appear.
Lighting rheostat
With the lights on, press
t h e b u t t o n t o v a r y t h e
intensity of the lighting
of the instruments and
controls. When the lighting reaches
the minimum (or maximum) setting,
r e l e a s e t h e b u t t o n t h e n p r e s s i t a g a i n
t o i n c r e a s e ( o r r e d u c e ) t h e b r i g h t n e s s .
As soon as the lighting is of the
r e q u i r e d b r i g h t n e s s , r e l e a s e t h e b u t t o n .
T h e l e v e l r e a d w i l l o n l y b e c o r r e c t
if the vehicle is on level ground
a n d t h e e n g i n e h a s b e e n o f f f o r
more than 15 minutes.
After this operation, if you wish
t o d i s c o n n e c t t h e b a t t e r y , l o c k
the vehicle and wait for at least
fi v e m i n u t e s , o t h e r w i s e t h e z e r o r e - s e t
w i l l n o t b e r e g i s t e r e d .

Good practice when starting
Handbrake
I f y o u r v e h i c l e i s fi t t e d w i t h a
version with a rotating front seat,
t h e h a n d b r a k e c a n b e d i s e n g a g e d .
P u l l i n g t h e h a n d b r a k e t o i m m o b i l i s e
the vehicle then lowering the lever
d o e s n o t r e l e a s e t h e b r a k e , i t p e r m i t s
rotation of the driver's seat.

h a n d b r a k e f o r w a r d s .

You can now rotate the seat.
To return to normal operation, pull the
lever up until it clicks.

- a warning light which comes on on the instrument panel,
- a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l ,
- a message on the display.
Key
Take care not to place the key in
contact with grease, dust, rain or a
damp environment.
A h e a v y o b j e c t a t t a c h e d t o t h e k e y ( k e y
ring, ...) weighing down on the shaft
of the key in the ignition switch may
cause a malfunction.
Running and accessories position.

Starting position.
The starter is operated. Diesel pre-heating warning
light
Turn the key to the
Running position.
In cold weather, wait for this warning
light to switch off then operate the
starter (Starting position) until the
engine starts.
If the temperature is high enough, the
warning light comes on for less than
one second, you can start without
waiting.
Good practice when stopping
Minimise engine and gearbox wear
When switching off the ignition, let the
engine run for a few seconds to allow
t h e t u r b o c h a r g e r t o r e t u r n t o i d l e .
Do not press the accelerator when
switching off the ignition.
There is no need to engage a gear
after parking the vehicle.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM
(ABS) AND ELECTRONIC
BRAKE FORCE DISTRIBUTION
(EBFD)
The ABS, in conjunction with the
electronic brake force distribution,
increases the stability and
manoeuvrability of your vehicle on
braking, in particular on poor or
s l i p p e r y r o a d s u r f a c e s .
HORN
Press one of the spokes of the steering
w h e e l . When changing wheels (tyres and
rims), make sure that these are
a p p r o v e d .
The anti-lock braking system comes
into operation automatically when there
i s a r i s k o f w h e e l l o c k .
When this warning light
comes on, accompanied by
a buzzer and a message,
it indicates that there is a
malfunction of the ABS, which
can cause a loss of control of the
v e h i c l e w h e n b r a k i n g .
When this warning light comes
on, connected to the STOP
warning light, accompanied
by a buzzer and a message,
it indicates that there is a
malfunction of the electronic brake force
distribution, which can cause a loss of
c o n t r o l o f t h e v e h i c l e w h e n b r a k i n g .
Stop immediately.
In both cases, consult a CITROËN
d e a l e r .
Normal operation of the ABS may
make itself felt by slight vibrations of
t h e b r a k e p e d a l .
In emergency braking, press
v e r y fi r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g t h e
pressure.
EMERGENCY BRAKING
ASSISTANCE SYSTEM (EBA)
In an emergency, this system enables
the optimum braking pressure to be
reached more quickly, press the pedal
fi r m l y w i t h o u t r e l e a s i n g i t .
It is triggered by the speed at which the
b r a k e p e d a l i s a c t i v a t e d .
This alters the resistance of the brake
p e d a l u n d e r y o u r f o o t .
To prolong the operation of the
emergency braking assistance system:
k e e p y o u r f o o t o n t h e b r a k e p e d a l .

TYRE UNDER-INFLATION
DETECTION
Sensors check the tyre pressure during
driving, and trigger a warning in the
event of a malfunction (speed greater
t h a n a p p r o x . 1 5 m p h [ 2 5 k m / h ] ) o r
p u n c t u r e .
An outline representing one or more
w h e e l s fl a s h i n g i n d i c a t e s t h e l o c a t i o n
o f t h e w h e e l o r w h e e l s c o n c e r n e d .
Flat tyre
The SERVICE warning light
comes on, accompanied
by the message "Tyre(s)
d e fl a t e d " , an outline on the display,
a n d a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l .
Check the tyre pressure as soon as
p o s s i b l e . If the damaged tyre is temporarily
stored in the boot, it will again emit
this message to remind you of the
n e c e s s i t y o f h a v i n g i t r e p a i r e d . T h i s w i l l
prevent another warning of the same
t y p e b e i n g d i s p l a y e d .
Sensor(s) not detected
The SERVICE warning light
comes on, accompanied
by the message "X tyre
pressure sensor(s) missing" , an
outline on the display and an audible
s i g n a l .
U n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n i s a b s e n t
f r o m o n e ( o r s e v e r a l ) t y r e ( s ) . C o n s u l t a
CITROËN dealer to replace the faulty
s e n s o r ( s ) . This message is also displayed
when one of the tyres is away
from the vehicle (being repaired)
or when a wheel without a sensor is
fi t t e d .
All repairs and changing of
t y r e s o n a w h e e l fi t t e d w i t h t h i s
system must be carried out by a
C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r .
T h e t y r e u n d e r - i n fl a t i o n d e t e c t i o n
system is a driving aid which does
not take the place of
the
vigilance or
the responsibility of the driver.
This system does not remove the
need to have the tyre pressure
checked regularly (including the spare
wheel), to ensure that the dynamic
performance of the vehicle remains at
its best and to avoid premature wear
of the tyres, in particular in the case
of arduous driving (heavy load, high
s p e e d ) .
The system may temporarily be
disturbed by radio broadcasts on a
f r e q u e n c y c l o s e t o i t .
Puncture
The STOP warning light
comes on, accompanied
by the message
"Punctured tyre(s)" , an outline on the
d i s p l a y a n d a n a u d i b l e s i g n a l .
Stop immediately, avoiding any sudden
movement of the steering wheel and
t h e b r a k e s .
Change the damaged (punctured or
v e r y d e fl a t e d ) t y r e , a n d h a v e t h e t y r e
p r e s s u r e c h e c k e d a s s o o n a s p o s s i b l e .

FRONT AND REAR SIDE
SEAT BELTS
The front seats and the rear side seats
o f r o w 2 a r e fi t t e d w i t h p r e - t e n s i o n e r s
a n d f o r c e l i m i t e r s . The lap strap must be positioned as
l o w a s p o s s i b l e o n t h e p e l v i s . T h e
chest strap must pass over the hollow
o f t h e s h o u l d e r .
Check that the seat belt is fastened
c o r r e c t l y b y p u l l i n g t h e s t r a p . The force-limiting device reduces the
pressure of the seat belt against the
chest of the occupant, so increasing
h i s p r o t e c t i o n .
A bag placed on the front
passenger seat or a pet sitting on
this seat may trigger the lighting of
t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t .
SEAT BELTS
Front seat belt warning light
If the driver and/or front
passenger has/have not
fastened his/their seat belt,
t h i s w a r n i n g l i g h t c o m e s o n .
Then, at a speed in excess of
a p p r o x i m a t e l y 1 5 m p h ( 2 5 k m / h ) , i t fl a s h e s
accompanied by an audible signal of
increasing volume (for approximately
9 0 s e c o n d s ) a n d a m e s s a g e o n t h e d i s p l a y .
Row 2 rear side seat belts
For your comfort, if you are not using
the seat belt, slide the seat belt loop to
the upper stop to prevent the tongue
f r o m v i b r a t i n g .
To adjust the height
- To lower the attachment point, squeeze control and slide it
d o w n w a r d s .
- To raise the attachment point, slide c o n t r o l u p w a r d s .
To fasten
- Pull the strap, then insert the b u c k l e i n t o t h e s t a l k .
- Check that the seat belt is secured c o r r e c t l y b y p u l l i n g t h e s t r a p .
Inertia reel seat belts
T h e s e a r e fi t t e d w i t h a d e v i c e w h i c h
locks the seat belt automatically in
the event of an impact or emergency
b r a k i n g .
Safety in the event of a frontal impact
has been improved by the introduction
of pre-tensioning and force-limiting
s e a t b e l t s . D e p e n d i n g o n t h e
seriousness of the impact, the
pre-tensioning system instantly
t i g h t e n s t h e s e a t b e l t s fi r m l y a g a i n s t
t h e b o d y o f t h e o c c u p a n t .
The pre-tensioning seat belts are
a r m e d w h e n t h e i g n i t i o n i s o n .
Row 3 rear side seat belts
T h e r o w 3 r e a r s i d e s e a t s a r e fi t t e d
with two seat belts which are both
three-point inertia reel belts with force
l i m i t e r .

Seat belts Depending on the nature and
seriousness of any impact, the
pretensioning device may be triggered
b e f o r e a n d i n d e p e n d e n t l y o f i n fl a t i o n
o f t h e a i r b a g s . I t i n s t a n t l y t i g h t e n s
the seat belts against the body of the
o c c u p a n t s .
Triggering of the pretensioners is
accompanied by a slight discharge
of harmless smoke and a noise, due
to the activation of the pyrotechnic
c a r t r i d g e i n c o r p o r a t e d i n t h e s y s t e m .
The force limiter reduces the pressure
of the seat belt against the body of the
o c c u p a n t s .
The pretensioning seat belts are active
w h e n t h e i g n i t i o n i s s w i t c h e d o n .
T h e i n e r t i a r e e l s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a d e v i c e
which automatically locks the strap in
the event of a collision or emergency
b r a k i n g o r i f t h e v e h i c l e r o l l s o v e r .
You can unfasten the seat belt by
p r e s s i n g t h e r e d b u t t o n o n t h e b u c k l e .
G u i d e t h e s e a t b e l t a f t e r u n f a s t e n i n g . The upper part of the seat belt should
be positioned in the hollow of the
s h o u l d e r .
The lap part should be placed as low
a s p o s s i b l e o n t h e p e l v i s .
Do not invert the seat belt buckles as
t h e y w i l l n o t f u l fi l t h e i r r o l e c o m p l e t e l y .
I f t h e s e a t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a r m r e s t s , t h e
lap part of the seat belt should always
p a s s u n d e r t h e a r m r e s t .
Check that the seat belt is fastened
c o r r e c t l y b y p u l l i n g t h e s t r a p fi r m l y .
Good practice
The driver must ensure that
passengers use the seat belts correctly
and that they are all strapped in
s e c u r e l y b e f o r e m o v i n g o f f .
Wherever you are seated in the
vehicle, always fasten your seat belt,
e v e n f o r s h o r t j o u r n e y s .
T h e s e a t b e l t s a r e fi t t e d w i t h a n i n e r t i a
reel which automatically adjusts the
l e n g t h o f t h e s t r a p t o y o u r s i z e .
Do not use accessories (clothes pegs,
c l i p s , s a f e t y p i n s , e t c . ) w h i c h p e r m i t a
c l e a r a n c e w i t h t h e s e a t b e l t s t r a p s .
Ensure that the seat belt is rolled up
c o r r e c t l y a f t e r u s e .
After folding or moving a seat or a rear
bench seat, ensure that the seat belt is
rolled up correctly and that the buckle
i s r e a d y t o a c c o m m o d a t e t h e t o n g u e .
To install the seat belt, move the
tongue into position to insert it into the
b u c k l e .
Row 2 and 3 rear centre seat
belts
The row 2 rear centre seat and the
rear bench seat centre seat have an
integrated three-point inertia reel seat
b e l t .
The air bag warning light comes on
i f t h e p r e t e n s i o n e r s a r e t r i g g e r e d .

In order to be effective, a seat belt
must:
- restrain one person only,
- must not be twisted, check by pulling in front of you with an even
movement,
- be tightened as close to the body a s p o s s i b l e . Recommendations for children:
- use a suitable child seat if the
passenger is less than 12 years old
o r s h o r t e r t h a n o n e m e t r e fi f t y ,
- never allow a child to travel on your lap, even with the seat belt
f a s t e n e d .
For further information regarding child
seats, refer to the "Children on board"
s e c t i o n o f c h a p t e r 4 .
In accordance with current safety
regulations, your CITROËN dealer
guarantees all work or any checks,
from testing to maintenance, on your
s e a t b e l t e q u i p m e n t .
Have the seat belts checked regularly
(even after a minor impact) by a
CITROËN dealer: they must not show
any signs of wear, cutting or fraying
and they must not be transformed or
m o d i fi e d .
Clean the seat belt straps with soapy
water or a textile cleaning product, sold
b y C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r s .

Air bags Disarming
The passenger's front air bag alone
can be disarmed:
- With the ignition switched off ,
insert the key into the passenger air
bag disarming switch,
turn it to the "OFF" position,
- then remove the key keeping the s l o t i n t h i s p o s i t i o n .
Front air bags
The front air bags are incorporated in
the centre of the steering wheel for the
driver and in the fascia for the front
p a s s e n g e r .
Front air bag fault
Reactivation
In the
"OFF" position, the passenger
air bag will not be triggered in the
e v e n t o f a n i m p a c t .
As soon as the child seat is removed,
turn the air bag slot to the "ON"
position to re-activate the air bag
and thus ensure the safety of your
p a s s e n g e r i n t h e e v e n t o f a n i m p a c t . To ensure the safety of your
child, it is essential to disarm the
passenger air bag when you install
a rear-facing child seat on the front
p a s s e n g e r s e a t . O t h e r w i s e , t h e c h i l d
would risk being killed or seriously
i n j u r e d i f t h e a i r b a g w e r e t o i n fl a t e .
The air bag warning light on the
instrument panel is lit throughout
t h e p e r i o d o f d i s a r m i n g .
If the two air bag warning lights
are lit continuously, do not install
a r e a r - f a c i n g c h i l d s e a t . C o n s u l t a
C I T R O Ë N d e a l e r .
Activation
They are deployed simultaneously,
unless the passenger's front air bag
has been disarmed, in the event of a
serious front impact applied to all or
part of the front impact zone
A in the
longitudinal centreline of the vehicle
on a horizontal plane directed from the
f r o n t t o w a r d s t h e r e a r o f t h e v e h i c l e .
T h e f r o n t a i r b a g i n fl a t e s b e t w e e n
the front occupant of the vehicle and
the fascia to cushion his forward
m o v e m e n t . If this warning light comes on,
accompanied by an audible
signal and a message on the
display, consult a CITROËN
dealer to have the system
c h e c k e d .
