12 V battery
Procedure for starting the engine using another battery or for charging your flat battery.
The battery is located under the bonnet.
For access to the (+) terminal:
) Release the bonnet using the interior lever,
then the exterior safety catch, ) raise the bonnet and secure it with its stay, )
lift the plastic cover for access to the (+)
terminal.
Access to the battery

After refitting the battery, the Stop & Star tsystem will only be active after a continuous period of immobilisation of the vehicle, a period which depends on the climatic conditions and the state of charge of the battery (up to about 8 hours).
The presence of this label, in particular with the Stop & Star t system, indicatesthe use of a 12 V lead-acid battery withspecial technology and specification;
the involvement of a CITROËN dealer or a qualified workshop is essential when replacing or disconnectingthe battery.

Check that the battery posts and terminals are clean. If they are coveredwith sulphate (white or green deposit), disconnect them and clean them.


Batteries contain harmful substancessuch as sulphuric acid and lead. Theymust be disposed of in accordancewith regulations and must not, in any circumstances, be discarded with household waste. Ta k e used cell batteries and vehiclebatteries to an authorised collection point.



Before doing any work
Immobilise the vehicle: apply theparking brake, put the gearbox inneutral *
, then switch off the ignition. Check that all electrical equipment is switched off.

Starting using another

)Connect the red lead to the (+) terminal of
the flat battery A, then to the (+) terminal of
the slave battery B.)Connect one end of the green or black lead
to the (-) terminal of the slave battery B(or the ear th point on the slave vehicle). )Connect the other end to the ear th point Con the broken-down vehicle.)Star t the engine on the slave vehicle andleave the engine running for a few minutes.

First ensure that the slave battery has anominal voltage of 12 V and a capacityat least equal to that of the flat battery.
Do not try to star t the engine by connecting a battery charger.
Do not disconnect the (+) terminal when the engine is running.
)
Operate the star ter on the broken-down
vehicle and leave the engine running.

f the engine does not star t straight away, switch off the ignition and wait a few
moments before trying again.) With the engine idling, disconnect the jumpleads in reverse order.
)Position the open clamp Eof the cable on
the positive post (+) of the battery. )Press down on the clamp to position itcorrectly on the battery post. )Lock the clamp by lowering the lever D .

Do not force the lever as locking will not be possible if the clamp is not positioned
correctly; star t the procedure again.

Energy economy mode System which manages the period of use of cer tain functions to conser ve a sufficient level of charge in the battery.
After the engine has stopped, you can still use functions such as the audio equipment, windscreen
wipers, dipped beam headlamps, courtesy lamps, etc. for a maximum combined period of
thirty minutes.
This period may be greatly reduced if the battery is not fully charged.
A flat battery prevents the engine from
starting (refer to the corresponding paragraph).
If the telephone is being used at the same time on the navigation system, it will be interrupted after 10 minutes.


Switching to economy mode

Once this period has elapsed, a message
appears in the screen indicating that the vehiclehas switched to economy mode and the activefunctions are put on standby.

Exiting economy mode

These functions are reactivated automaticallythe next time the vehicle is driven. )In order to resume the use of these functions immediately, star t the engine and
let it run for a few minutes.
The time available to you will then be double
the period for which the engine is left running. However, this period will always be between
five and thir ty minutes.








Load reduction mode System which manages the use of certainfunctions according to the level of chargeremaining in the battery.
When the vehicle is being driven, the load
reduction function temporarily deactivates cer tain functions, such as the air conditioning,
th
e heated rear screen...
The deactivated functions are reactivated automatically as soon as conditions permit.

Practical information





Towing the vehicle
Procedure for having your vehicle towed or for towing another vehicle using a removable towing eye.

The towing eye is installed in the boot under
the floor.
To
gain access to it: )open the boot, )raise the floor,)secure it by hooking its cord on the hook on
the rear parcel shelf suppor t,
)remove the towing eye from the holder.

General
recommendations
Obser ve the legislation in force in your country. Ensure that the weight of the towing vehicle is higher than that of the towedvehicle.The driver must stay at the wheel of thetowed vehicle. Driving on motorways and fast roads is prohibited when towing.When towing a vehicle with all four wheels on the ground, always use an approved towing bar; rope and straps are prohibited. When towing a vehicle with the engine off, there is no longer any power assistance for braking or steering.

In the following cases, you must always callon a professional recovery service:


- vehicle broken down on a motor way or fast road,

- when it is not possible to put the gearbox into neutral, unlock the steering, or releasethe parking brake,

- towing with only two wheels on the ground,

- where there is no approved towing bar available...

)On the front bumper, unclip the cover by pressing at the bottom. )Screw the towing eye in fully. )Install the towing bar.
)On the rear bumper, unclip the cover by pressing at the bottom. )Screw the towing eye in fully. )Install the towing bar. )Switch on the hazard warning lamps on both vehicles.)Move off gently, drive slowly and for a short distance.

)Place the gear lever in neutral (position Non the electronic gearbox system or automatic gearbox). Failure to observe this instructioncould result in damage to certain components (braking, transmission...) and the absence of braking assistance the next time the engine is started.

Unlock the steering by turning the key in the ignition one notch and release the
parking brake.) Switch on the hazard warning lamps onboth vehicles. )
Move off gently, drive slowly and for a short distance.

The rear parking sensors will be deactivated automatically if a genuine CITROËN towbar is used.

Driving advice
Distribution of loads
)Distribute the load in the trailer so that theheaviest items are as close as possible to
the axle and the nose weight approaches the maximum permitted without exceeding it.
Air density decreases with altitude, thus reducing engine per formance. Above
1 000 metres, the maximum towed load must
be reduced b
y 10 % for every 1 000 metres of altitude.
Refer to the "Technical Data" section for details
of the weights and towed loads which apply to your vehicle.
Side wind
)Take into account the increased sensitivity
to side wind.

Cooling

Towing a trailer on a slope increases the
temperature of the coolant.
As the fan is electrically controlled, its cooling capacity is not dependent on the engine speed.)
To lower the engine speed, reduce your speed.
The maximum towed load on a long inclinedepends on the gradient and the ambient
temperature.
In all cases, keep a check on the coolant
temperature.

Braking

To w i ng a trailer increases the braking distance.
To a v o i d o v e r h e a t i ng of the brakes on a long
mountain type of descent, the use of enginebraking is recommended.


Tyres
)Check the tyre pressures of the towing
vehicle and of the trailer, obser ving the recommended pressures.



Lighting
)Check the electrical lighting and signalling on the trailer.
)If the warning lamp and the
STOP warning lamp come on, stop the vehicle and switch off

towing using a lightly loaded towing vehicle may have an adverse effect on its road holding.
The
GTW and towed load values indicated are valid up to a maximum altitude of 1 000 metres; the towed load mentioned must be reduced by 10 % for each additional 1 000 metres of altitude.
The speed of a towing vehicle must not exceed 60 mph (10 0 km/h) (comply with the legislation in force in your country).
High ambient temperatures may result in a reduction in the performance of the vehicle to protect the engine; if the ambient temperature is above 37 °C,
limit the towed load.
