SAFE LOCK DEVICE(for versions/markets, where provided)
This safety device inhibits the operation of:
❒interior handles;
❒door locking/unlocking button fig. 13 on the
central trim;
thereby preventing the opening of the doors from
inside the passenger compartment if there has been
a break-in attempt (e.g. a window has been
broken).
The safe lock device therefore offers the best
possible protection against break-in attempts. We
recommend engaging it whenever the vehicle is
parked and left unattended.
WARNING
Once the safe lock system is engaged, it
is impossible to open the doors from
inside the car. Therefore, before getting out of
the car check that there is no one left on
board.
WARNING
If the key with remote control battery
is flat , the system can be engaged by
using the metal insert in the door catch as
described previously: in this case, the device
only remains active for the rear doors.

Never use the windscreen wipers to
remove layers of snow or ice from the
windscreen. In such conditions, the
windscreen wipers may be subjected to excessive
stress and the motor protection, which prevents
operation for a few seconds, may intervene. If
operation is not restored, contact a Fiat
Dealership.
"Smart washing" functionfig. 52
Pull the stalk towards the steering wheel (unstable
position) to operate the windscreen washer.
Keep the stalk pulled, with just one movement, to
operate the washer jet and the windscreen wiper;
the latter automatically turns on if you keep the
stalk pulled for more than half a second.
The windscreen wiper stops operating a few
strokes after releasing the stalk; a further “cleaning
stroke”, after a few seconds, completes the wiping
operation.
RAIN SENSOR
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The rain sensor A fig. 53 is located behind the
interior rear view mirror in contact with the
windscreen and has the purpose of automatically
adjusting the frequency of the windscreen wiper
strokes depending on the intensity of the rain
during intermittent operation. The sensor has an adjustment range that varies
progressively from wiper still (no stroke) when the
windscreen is dry, to wiper at first continuous
speed (slow continuous operation) with intense
rain.

the interior of the car may be covered with dusty
residue. This dust can irritate skin and eyes. Wash
with mild soap and water in the event of exposure.
3) Should an accident occur in which any of the
safety devices are activated, take the vehicle to
a Fiat Dealership to have the activated devices
replaced and to have the whole system checked.
Every control, repair and replacement operation
concerning the airbags must only be carried out at
a Fiat Dealership.
If you are having the car scrapped, have the airbag
system deactivated at a Fiat Dealership first. If
the car changes ownership, the new owner must be
informed of the method of use of the airbags and
the above warnings, and also be given this "Owner's
Handbook".
4) Pretensioners, front airbags and front side bags
are deployed differently according to the type of
collision. Failure to deploy of one or more of
the devices does not indicate a system malfunction.
WARNING
If the warning light
does not turn on
when the key is turned to MAR-ON,
or if it stays on when travelling (together with
the message on the display on some versions),
there could be a failure in the restraint
systems. If this is the case, the airbags or
pretensioners may not trigger in the event of
an accident or, less likely, they may trigger
accidentally. Contact a Fiat Dealership
immediately to have the system checked.
WARNING
The expiration dates of the explosive
charge and the clock spring are shown
on a specific label contained in the lower glove
compar tment . Contact a Fiat Dealership to
have the devices replaced when the expiration
date approaches.
WARNING
Do not travel carrying objects in your
lap, in front of your chest or between
your lips (pipe, pencils, etc .): they could cause
severe injur y if the airbag is deployed in an
accident .

BODYWORKPROTECTION FROM ATMOSPHERIC
AGENTS
The main causes of corrosion are the following:
❒atmospheric pollution
❒salty air and humidity (coastal areas, or hot
humid climates);
❒seasonal environmental conditions.
The abrasive action of wind-borne atmospheric
dust and sand, as well as mud and gravel raised by
other vehicles is also not to be underestimated.
On your car, Fiat has adopted the best
manufacturing technologies to effectively protect
the bodywork against corrosion.
These are the most important:
❒Painting products and systems which give the car
particular resistance to corrosion and abrasion;
❒Use of galvanised (or pretreated) steel sheets,
with high resistance to corrosion;
❒spraying the underbody, engine compartment,
wheel arch interiors and other parts with highly
protective wax products;
❒spraying of plastic parts, with a protective
function in the more exposed points: underdoor,
inner wing, edges, etc;
❒Use of “open” boxed sections to prevent
condensation and pockets of moisture from
triggering rust inside.BODY AND UNDERBODY WARRANTY
Your car is covered by warranty against perforation
due to rust of any original element of the structure
or body.
For the general terms of this warranty, refer to the
Warranty Booklet.
ADVICE FOR PRESERVING THE
BODYWORK
Paint
Paintwork does not only serve an aesthetic
purpose, but also protects the underlying sheet
metal.
Touch up abrasions and scratches immediately to
prevent rust formation. Use only original paint
products for touch-ups (see “Bodywork paint
identification plate” in the “Technical specifications”
section).
Normal maintenance of paintwork consists in
washing the car: the frequency depends on the
conditions and environment where the car is used.

For example, in highly polluted areas, or if the roads
are spread with salt, it is advisable to wash the car
more frequently.

INTERIORSPeriodically check for water puddles under the mats
that could cause the panels to rust.
Replace the worn carpet mats, if present, with
genuine products and make sure they remain
securely fastened to the passenger compartment
carpet. It is not advisable to use non genuine mats
that could move whilst driving.
WARNING
Never use flammable products, such as
petrol ether or rectified petrol to
clean the inside of the car.The electrostatic
charges which are generated by rubbing during
the cleaning operation may cause a fire.
WARNING
Do not keep aerosol cans in the car:
they might explode. Aerosol cans must
not be exposed to a temperature exceeding
50°C .When the car is exposed to sunlight ,
internal temperature can greatly exceed this
value.SEATS AND FABRIC PARTS
Remove dust with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner.
Rub the seats with a sponge and a solution of
water and mild soap.
LEATHER SEATS
Remove the dry dirt with a buckskin or slightly
damp cloth, without exercising too much pressure.
Remove any liquid or grease stains using an
absorbent dry cloth, without rubbing. Then clean
with a soft cloth or buckskin cloth dampened with
water and neutral soap.
If the stain persists, use specific products and
observe the instructions carefully.
IMPORTANT Never use alcohol. Make sure that
the cleaning products used contain no alcohol
or alcohol derivatives, even in small quantities.
The fabric upholstery of your car has
been designed to withstand wear
deriving from common use of the car.You
are however recommended to avoid strong
and/or continuous scratching with clothing
accessories such as metal buckles, studs,Velcro
fastenings and the like, as these items cause
stress of the cover fabric that could lead to yarn
breaking and damage the upholstery.
