FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR
This shows the amount of fuel left in the
fuel tank.
The warning light A-fig. 12turns on to
indicate that approximately 6 to 7 litres of
fuel are left in the tank.
E- tank empty.
F- tank full (see the instructions provid-
ed in paragraph “Vehicle refuelling” in
this section).
Do not travel when the fuel tank is almost
empty, because this may jeopardize the
catalyst.
IMPORTANT The needle will point to E
and warning light Awill blink to indicate a
fault in the system. Go to a Fiat Dealer-
ship to have the system checked.ENGINE COOLANT
TEMPERATURE INDICATOR
This shows the temperature of the engine
coolant fluid and starts working when the
fluid temperature exceeds approx. 50°C.
Under normal conditions, the needle
should hover around the middle of the
scale according to the working conditions
of the vehicle.
C- Low engine coolant temperature.
H- High engine coolant temperature.Turning on of the warning light B-fig. 12
(along with a message on the display) in-
dicates that the coolant fluid temperature
is too high. In this case, stop the engine
and contact a Fiat Dealership.

ENGINE START-UP
PROCEDURE FOR
DIESEL VERSIONS
Proceed as follows:
❒ensure that the handbrake is up;
❒put the gear lever into neutral;
❒turn the ignition key to MAR: the
warning light
mwill come on in the
instrument panel.
❒wait until the warning lights Yand
mturn off. The hotter the engine, the
quicker this will happen;
❒press the clutch pedal all the way down
without touching the accelerator;
❒turn the ignition key to AVVas soon
as the warning light
mturns off. Wait-
ing too long will waste the work done
by the glow plugs.
Release the key as soon as the engine
starts.
IMPORTANT When the engine is cold,
rotate the ignition key to AVVto com-
pletely release the accelerator pedal.If the engine does not start at the first at-
tempt, return the ignition key to STOP
before repeating starting.
If with the ignition key on MAR, the in-
strument panel warning light Yremains
on, turn the key to STOPand then back
to MAR; if the warning light remains on,
try with the other keys provided with the
vehicle.
Contact the Fiat Dealership if the engine
still will not start.
The warning light
mblinks
for 60 seconds after starting
or during prolonged cranking
to indicate a fault to the glow
plug heating system. Use the vehicle
normally if the engine starts, but con-
tact the Fiat Dealership as soon as pos-
sible.
WARMING THE
ENGINE IMMEDIATELY AFTER
START-UP
Proceed as follows:
❒drive off slowly, letting the engine turn
at medium speed. Do not accelerate
abruptly;
❒do not demand maximum performance
for the first few kilometres. Wait until
the engine coolant gauge starts moving.
EMERGENCY START
Go to a Fiat Dealership immediately if an
instrument panel warning lightYaremains
on constantly.
Never jump start the engine
by pushing, towing or driving
downhill. This could cause a
flow of fuel into the catalyt-
ic converter and damage it beyond re-
pair.

ENGINE COOLANT
HIGH TEMPERATURE
(red)
When the ignition key is moved
to MAR, the warning light turns on and
should go off after a few seconds.
The warning light turns on when the en-
gine is overheated.
If the warning light comes on, proceed as
follows:
❒during normal travel: stop the ve-
hicle, stop the engine and check that the
water level in the vessel is not under
the MIN reference line. In this case, wait
for a few minutes for the engine to cool
down, then slowly and carefully open
the cap, top-up with coolant and check
that the level is between the MIN and
MAX references on the vessel itself. Al-
so check for leakages. Go to a Fiat
Dealership if the warning should come
on when the engine is started again.❒In demanding vehicle use condi-
tions (e.g. towing trailers uphill or ve-
hicle at full load): slow down and stop
the vehicle if the warning light stays on.
Stop for 2 or 3 minutes with the engine
running and slightly accelerated to
favour better coolant circulation. Then
stop the engine. Check correct liquid
level as described above.
IMPORTANT Under severe use of the ve-
hicle, keep the engine on and slightly ac-
celerated for a few minutes before switch-
ing it off. On certain versions the dedi-
cated message is displayed.LOW BATTERY
CHARGE (red)
When the ignition key is moved
to MAR, the warning light turns on and
should go out as soon as the engine is
started (with the engine running at idle
speed a brief delay in going out is allowed).
If the warning light stays on glowing steadi-
ly, immediately contact the Fiat Dealer-
ship.
On certain versions the dedicated mes-
sage is displayed.

PERIODIC CHECKING
Every 1,000 km or before long journeys,
check and top up if required:
❒engine coolant fluid level;
❒brake fluid level;
❒windscreen washer fluid level;
❒tyre pressure and conditions;
❒operation of lights (headlights, direction
indicators, emergency lights, etc.);
❒operation of the windscreen wiper/
washer system, position and wear of
the windscreen and rear window wiper
blades (where provided);
Every 3,000 km check the following and
top-up, if required: engine oil level.
You are recommended to use
PETRONAS LUBRICANTSproducts,
designed and produced specifically for Fi-
at vehicles (see table “Refuelling” in sec-
tion “Technical specifications”).
DEMANDING
VEHICLE USE
Should prevailing use of the vehicle be un-
der one of the following specially heavy
conditions:
❒trailer towing;
❒dusty roads;
❒short repeated distances (less than 7-
8 km) and with external temperatures
below zero;
❒frequently idling engine or long distance
low speed driving (e.g. taxis or door-to-
door deliveries) or in case of a long
term inactivity;

FLUID FOR ENGINE
COOLING SYSTEM
The coolant level must be checked when
the engine is cold and must not drop be-
low the MINline on the vessel.
If the level is too low, slowly pour a mixture
of 50% distilled water and of PETRONAS
LUBRICANTS PARAFLU
UPinto the
filler A-fig. 5of the vessel.
A 50-50 mixture of PARAFLU
UPand
distilled water gives freeze protection up
to –35°C.
When the vehicle is used under particu-
larly harsh weather conditions, we rec-
ommend using a 60-40 mixture of
PARAFLU
UPand demineralised water.WINDSCREEN/REAR WINDOW
WASHING FLUID
To add fluid lift the cap A-fig. 6and pour
in a mixture of water and TUTELA
PROFESSIONAL SC 35fluid, in the
following proportions:
❒30% of TUTELA PROFESSIONAL
SC 35and 70% of water in summer;
❒50% of TUTELA PROFESSIONAL
SC 35and 50% of water in winter.
In case of temperatures below –20°C, use
undiluted TUTELA PROFESSIONAL
SC35fluid.
Check level through the reservoir.
fig. 5F0T0078m
When the engine is extreme-
ly hot, do not remove the
cap from the vessel: risk of burns.
The cooling system is pressurised. If
required, replace the cap with an
original spare part so as not to jeop-
ardise system efficiency.
WARNING
PARAFLUUPantifreeze is used
in the engine cooling system.
Use fluid of the same type
contained in the cooling system for top-
ups. PARAFLU
UPmay not be mixed
with other types of fluids. If it is, do not
start the engine and contact the Fiat
Dealership.
