•To prevent damage to the roof of your
vehicle, DO NOT carry any loads on the
roof rack without the crossbars installed.
The load should be secured and placed on top of
the crossbars, not directly on the roof. If it is
necessary to place the load on the roof, place a
blanket or other protective layer between the
load and the roof surface.
• To avoid damage to the roof rack and vehicle,
do not exceed the maximum roof rack load ca-
pacity of 68 kg. Always distribute heavy loads as
evenly as possible and secure the load appropri-
ately.
• Long loads, which extend over the windshield,
such as wood panels or surfboards, should be
secured to both the front and rear of the vehicle.
• Travel at reduced speeds and turn corners care-
fully when carrying large or heavy loads on the
roof rack. Wind forces, due to natural causes or
nearby truck traffic , can add sudden upward
loads.This is especially true on large flat loads and
may result in damage to the cargo or your vehicle.BRAKE SYSTEM
Your vehicle is equipped with dual hydraulic
brake systems. If either of the two hydraulic
systems loses normal capability, the remaining system
will still function. However, there will be some loss of
overall braking effectiveness. This will be evident by
increased pedal travel during application and greater
pedal force required to slow or stop the vehicle. In
addition, if the malfunction is caused by a leak in the
hydraulic system, the “Brake System Warning Light”
will turn on as the brake fluid level drops in the master
cylinder.
In the event power assist is lost for any reason (i.e.,
repeated brake applications with the engine OFF) the
brakes will still function. However, the effort required
to brake the vehicle will be much greater than that
required with the power system operating.

• Your vehicle is equipped with SABIC air bags,
do not have any accessory items installed which
will alter the roof, including adding a sunroof to
your vehicle. Do not add roof racks that require
permanent attachments (bolts or screws) for in-
stallation on the vehicle roof. Do not drill into the
roof of the vehicle for any reason.
SAB and SABIC air bags are a supplement to the seat
belt restraint system. Occupants, including children
who are up against or very close to SAB or SABIC air
bags can be seriously injured or killed. Occupants,
especially children, should not lean on or sleep against
the door, side windows, or area where the SAB or
SABIC air bags inflate, even if they are in an infant or
child restraint.
Always sit upright as possible with your back against
the seat back, use the seat belts properly, and use the
appropriate sized child restraint, infant restraint or
booster seat recommended for the size and weight of
the child.
Knee Impact Bolsters
The Knee Impact Bolsters help protect the knees of
the driver and front passenger, and position the front
occupants for the best interaction with the Advanced
Front Air Bags. Along with seat belts and pretensioners, Advanced
Front Air Bags and the Supplemental Driver Side Knee
Air Bag work with the knee impact bolsters to provide
improved protection for the driver and front passenger.
Air Bag Deployment Sensors And Controls
Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC)
The ORC is part of a regulated safety system required
for this vehicle.
The ORC determines if deployment of the front and/or
side air bags in a frontal or side collision is required.
Based on the impact sensor's signals, a central electronic
ORC deploys the Advanced Front Air Bags, SABIC air
bags, Supplemental Seat-Mounted Side Air Bags, and
front seat belt pretensioners, as required, depending on
several factors, including the severity and type of impact.
The Advanced Front Air Bags are designed to provide
additional protection by supplementing the seat belts
in certain frontal collisions depending on several fac-
tors, including the severity and type of collision. Ad-
vanced Front Air Bags are not expected to reduce the
risk of injury in rear, side, or rollover collisions.
The Advanced Front Air Bags will not deploy in all
frontal collisions, including some that may produce
substantial vehicle damage — for example, some pole
collisions, truck underrides, and angle offset collisions.
On the other hand, depending on the type and location

SHIFT LEVER OVERRIDE
If a malfunction occurs and the shift lever cannot be
moved out of the PARK position, you can use the
following procedure to temporarily move the shift
lever :
1. Turn the engine OFF.
2. Firmly apply the parking brake.
3. Open the center console and remove the shift lever
override access cover (located in the front lower
right corner of the console storage bin). (fig. 187)
