IGNITION DEVICE
2) 3) 4) 5)
The key can be turned to 3 different
positions fig. 3:
❒STOP: engine off, key can be
removed, steering column locked.
Some electrical devices (e.g. audio
system, central door locking system,
etc.) can operate;
❒MAR: driving position. All electrical
devices are enabled;
❒AVV: engine starting.
The ignition switch is fitted with a safety
system that requires the ignition key
to be turned back to STOP if the engine
does not start, before the starting
operation can be repeated.STEERING LOCK
Engagement
When the key is at STOP, remove the
key and turn the steering wheel until
it locks.
Disengagement
Move the steering wheel slightly and
turn the key to MAR.
WARNING
2)If the ignition device is tampered with
(e.g.: attempted theft), have it checked
over by a Fiat Dealership as soon as
possible.
3)When getting out of the vehicle, always
remove the key to prevent any occupants
from accidentally activating the controls.
Remember to engage the handbrake.
Engage first gear if the vehicle is parked
uphill or reverse if the vehicle is parked
downhill. Never leave children unattended
in the vehicle.
4)It is absolutely forbidden to carry out any
after-market operation involving steering
system or steering column modifications
(e.g. installation of anti-theft device) that
could adversely affect performance and
safety, invalidate the warranty and also
result in non-compliance of the vehicle with
type-approval requirements.5)Never extract the key while the vehicle is
moving. The steering wheel will
automatically lock as soon as it is turned.
This also applies to cases in which the
vehicle is towed.

THE FIAT CODE
SYSTEM
This is an electronic engine locking
system which increases protection
against attempted thefts of the vehicle.
It is automatically activated when the
ignition key is removed.
OPERATION
Each time the vehicle is started by
turning the ignition key to MAR, the Fiat
CODE system control unit sends a
recognition code to the Powertrain
Control Module to deactivate the
immobiliser.
The code is sent only if the Fiat CODE
system control unit has acknowledged
the code received from the key.
Each time the ignition key is turned to
STOP, the Fiat CODE system
deactivates the functions of the
Powertrain Control Module. If, during
starting, the code is not correctly
recognised, the
warning light
switches on in the instrument panel. In
this case, turn the key to STOP and
then to MAR; if it is still locked, try again
with the other keys that come with the
vehicle. Contact a Fiat Dealership if
you still cannot start the engine. If the
warning light switches on, this
means that the system is running a
self-diagnosis (for example due to
a voltage drop). Should the fault persist,
contact a Fiat Dealership.DOORS
LOCKING/UNLOCKING
DOORS FROM THE
INSIDE
Push the control lever A fig. 4 toward
the door, to lock the doors or pull it
to unlock them. With central door
locking system (for versions/markets,
where provided), operating the lever
A on the driver's side will lock/unlock all
the doors. Operating lever A on the
other doors locks/unlocks only the door
concerned. With mechanical lock,
locking/unlocking takes place operating
the single control levers.
IMPORTANT The locked door condition
is indicated by the red printing B fig. 4 .

E - Fan speed adjustment and climate control system activation/deactivation knob (for versions/markets, where provided).
IMPORTANT It is advisable to switch the air recirculation on whilst queuing or in tunnels, or whilst driving on dusty roads, to
prevent the introduction of polluted air. However, it is better not to use the function for long periods, particularly if there are
many people on board, to prevent the windows from misting.
NoteTo stop the air flow from the vents, turn the knob to 0.
ADDITIONAL HEATER
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The additional heater speeds up passenger compartment warming when it is very cold. The heater switches on automatically
according to the environmental conditions and with engine started when the temperature of the engine coolant is low. The
additional heater turns off automatically after the required comfort conditions are achieved.
The heater only works if the outside temperature and engine coolant temperature are low. The heater will not activate if the
battery voltage is too low.

F - Heated rear window and (for versions/markets, where provided) heated mirrors/heated windscreen activation/deactivation.
G/M - Fan speed adjustment.
H - AUTO function activation (climate control system automatic operation).
I/L - Adjustment of temperature inside the passenger compartment.
The automatic climate control manages the Stop/Start function (engine off when the vehicle speed is zero) to guarantee
adequate comfort inside the passenger compartment.
NOTE In particularly severe climate conditions it is recommended to limit the use of the Stop/Start function to prevent the
compressor from continuously switching on and off, with consequent rapid misting of the windows and accumulation of
humidity with unpleasant smells in the passenger compartment.
WARNING
18)It is advisable not to use the air recirculation function when the outside temperature is low, because the windows could rapidly steam up.
WARNING
2)The system uses R134a coolant which does not pollute the environment in the event of accidental leakage. Never use R12 fluid, which is
not compatible with the system components.

23)Before servicing the vehicle, switch off
the engine and remove the key from the
ignition switch to activate the steering lock.
This is especially important when the
vehicle wheels are not touching the
ground. If this is not possible (for example if
the key needs to be turned to MAR or the
engine must be running), remove the
main fuse that protects the electric power
steering.ECO FUNCTION
(for versions/markets, where provided)
To activate the function press the ECO
button fig. 29.
When the ECO function is active, the
car is set for driving characterised
by reduced fuel consumption. When
the function is active, the
corresponding LED on the button
switches on.
This function stays in the memory and,
when the vehicle is started again, the
system keeps the setting it had before
the engine was stopped. Press the
ECO button again to deactivate the
function and restore the normal driving
setting.

Warning light What it means
LOW BRAKE FLUID/HANDBRAKE ENGAGED
When the ignition key is turned to MAR, the warning light turns on but should switch off after a few
seconds.
Low brake fluid level
The warning light switches on when the brake fluid in the reservoir falls below the minimum level, possibly
due to a leak in the circuit. On certain versions a dedicated message is displayed.
42)
Handbrake engaged
The warning light switches on when the handbrake is engaged. If the vehicle is moving a buzzer will also
sound.
IMPORTANT If the warning light turns on when travelling, check that the handbrake is not engaged.
LOW BATTERY CHARGE
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The warning light comes on when the ignition key is turned to MAR, but it should go out as soon as the
engine has started (with the engine running at idle speed a brief delay before going out is acceptable).
If the warning light stays on constantly or flashing, on some versions along with a dedicated message on
the display, contact a Fiat Dealership.
DOORS/BONNET/LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT OPEN
The warning light switches on, on some versions along with a message and a symbol in the display, when
one or more doors, the bonnet or the tailgate are not properly closed. An acoustic signal is emitted with the
doors open and the vehicle in motion.
WARNING
42)If thewarning light comes on while driving, stop immediately and contact a Fiat Dealership

Warning light What it means
ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE TOO HIGH
When the key is turned to MAR, the warning light switches on but it should switch off after a few seconds.
The warning light comes on, on some versions along with a message on the display, when the engine is
overheated.
When driving normally:stop the vehicle, switch off the engine and check that the water level in the
reservoir is not below the MIN mark. If it is, wait for the engine to cool down then slowly and carefully open
the cap, top up with coolant and check that the level is between the MIN and MAX marks on the reservoir.
Also check visually for any fluid leaks. If, when restarting, the warning light switches on again, contact a Fiat
Dealership.
If the vehicle is used under demanding conditions(e.g. towing trailers uphill or fully loaded): slow
down and, if the warning light stays on, stop the vehicle. Wait for 2 or 3 minutes with the engine running
and slightly accelerated to further favour the coolant circulation. Then stop the engine. Check that the
coolant level is correct as described above.
IMPORTANT Over demanding routes, it is advisable to keep the engine on and slightly accelerated for a
few minutes before switching it off.
“DUALDRIVE” ELECTRIC POWER STEERING FAILURE
The warning light switches on when the ignition key is turned to MAR, but it should switch off after a few
seconds.
If the warning light stays on, on some versions along with a dedicated message on the display, you may
not have steering assistance and the effort required to operate the steering wheel could be notably
increased; steering is, however, possible.
In this case, contact a Fiat Dealership.
IMPORTANT In some circumstances, factors independent of the electric power steering could cause the
warning light on the instrument panel to switch on. In this case, stop the vehicle immediately (should it be
in motion), stop the engine for about 20 seconds and then restart the engine. If the warning light, on some
versions along with a dedicated message on the display, remains on, contact a Fiat Dealership.
IMPORTANT After the battery is disconnected, the steering must be initialised. The warning light switches
on to indicate this. To carry out this procedure, simply turn the steering wheel all the way from one end to
the other or drive in a straight line for about a hundred metres.

Warning light What it means
City Brake Control - "Collision Mitigation" SYSTEM DEACTIVATED
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The warning light switches on when the City Brake Control - "Collision Mitigation" system is deactivated
through the Setup Menu.
INJECTION/EOBD SYSTEM FAILURE
In normal conditions, when the ignition key is turned to MAR the warning light switches on, but it should
switch off as soon as the engine is started.
If the warning light remains on or switches on whilst driving, the injection system is not working properly; in
particular, if the warning light switches on steadily, this indicates a malfunction in the supply/ignition system
that could cause excessive exhaust emissions, a possible loss of performance, poor driveability and high
fuel consumption.
Under these conditions, you may continue travelling at a moderate speed without demanding excessive
effort from the engine. Prolonged use of the vehicle with the warning light on constantly may cause
damage: contact a Fiat Dealership as soon as possible.
The warning light switches off if the malfunction disappears, but is still stored by the system.
NOTE For petrol engines, if the warning light flashes, the catalytic converter may be damaged. In this case,
it is necessary to release the accelerator pedal to lower the speed of the engine until the warning light
stops flashing; continue the journey at moderate speed, trying to avoid driving conditions that may cause
further flashing and contact a Fiat Dealership as soon as possible.
24)
WARNING
24)Contact a Fiat Dealership as soon as possible if thewarning light either does not switch on when the key is turned to MAR or if while
driving the warning light switches on either constantly or flashing (along with a message and a symbol on the display on some versions).
Operation of the
warning light may be verified by traffic control officers using appropriate equipment. Comply with the laws and
regulations of the country where you are driving.
