Warning light What it means
EBD FAILURE
The simultaneous switching on of the
(red),(amber) and(amber) warning lights with the engine
on indicates either an anomaly of the EBD system or that the system is not available. In this case, the rear
wheels may suddenly lock and the vehicle may swerve when braking sharply. On certain versions a
dedicated message is displayed.
Drive very carefully to the nearest Fiat Dealership to have the system inspected immediately.
AIRBAG FAILURE
When the ignition key is turned to MAR, the warning light switches on but should switch off after a few
seconds.
If the warning light switches on constantly, this indicates a fault in the airbag system. On certain versions a
dedicated message is displayed.
37) 38)
WARNING
37)If, when turning the key to MAR, thewarning light does not switch on or if it stays on when travelling, there could be a fault in the
restraint systems; in this event airbags or pretensioners may not be deployed in the event of impact or, in a lower number of cases, they may
deploy accidentally. Contact a Fiat Dealership immediately to have the system checked.
38)A failure of the
warning light is indicated by thewarning light flashing. In this case, any faults of the airbag system might be not
signalled. Before continuing, contact a Fiat Dealership immediately to have the system checked.

Warning light What it means
ABS FAILURE
The warning light switches on when the ignition key is turned to MAR, but it should switch off after a few
seconds.
The warning light comes on, on some versions along with a message on the display, when the system is
inefficient. In this case the braking system maintains its efficiency unaltered but without the advantage of
the ABS system.
Drive carefully and contact a Fiat Dealership as soon as possible.
PASSENGER AIRBAG/SIDE BAGS DEACTIVATED
The warning light is located on the dashboard in central position and switches on deactivating the front
passenger airbag and the side airbag. With front passenger airbag on, when the ignition key is turned to
MAR, the warning light switches on constantly for several seconds and then it should switch off.
42)
WARNING
42)A failure of thewarning light is indicated by thewarning light switching on. In addition, the airbag system automatically disables the
airbags on the passenger's side (front and side bags where provided). Before continuing, contact a Fiat Dealership immediately to have the
system checked.

Warning light What it means
GENERAL FAILURE INDICATION
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The warning light turns on in the following circumstances.
Speed limit exceeded
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The warning light switches on when the speed limit set in the Setup Menu is exceeded. When the vehicle
exceeds this value, on some versions a dedicated message is shown in the display and an acoustic signal
is emitted.
Fuel cut-off system intervention/failure
This warning light switches on, on some versions along with a dedicated message on the display, in the
case of fuel cut-off system activation/failure.
Start&Stop system failure
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The warning light comes on when a fault is detected in the Start&Stop system. In the event of a Start&Stop
system failure, contact a Fiat Dealership.
Temporary or permanent City Brake Control - "Collision Mitigation" system failure
(for versions/markets, where provided)
The warning light switches on, on some versions along with a message on the display, when a temporary
or permanent City Brake Control - "Collision Mitigation" system fault is detected. If the fault is permanent:
contact a Fiat Dealership to have the system checked.
Airbag fault
When this warning light starts flashing, for versions/markets where provided, this indicates an airbag
warning light fault. In this case, the airbag may not indicate possible airbag system malfunctions. Contact a
Fiat Dealership immediately.

34)Do not tamper nor operate on the laser
sensor. Do not close the openings in the
aesthetic cover located under the interior
rear view mirror. In the event of a sensor
failure, contact a Fiat Dealership.
35)Do not cover the operating range of the
sensor with stickers or other objects. Also
pay attention to other objects on the
bonnet (e.g. a layer of snow) and make
sure they do not interfere with the light
emitted by the laser.
36)If a trailer or a vehicle is towed the
system must be deactivated with the
display Setup Menu.OCCUPANT
PROTECTION
SYSTEMS
The most important safety equipment
of the vehicle comprises the following
protection systems:
seat belts;
SBR (Seat Belt Reminder) system;
head restraints;
child restraint systems;
front airbags and side bags.
Read the information given the
following pages with the utmost care. It
is of fundamental importance that the
protection systems are used in the
correct way to guarantee the maximum
possible safety level for the driver and
the passengers.
For the description of the headrest
adjustment see the "Headrests"
paragraph in the "Knowing your
vehicle" chapter.
SEAT BELTS
USING THE SEAT BELTS
All vehicle seats are equipped with seat
belts with three anchor points and a
retractor. The retractor mechanism
operates locking the belt in the event of
sharp braking or strong deceleration
due to an impact. This allows the belt
strap to slide freely and to adapt to the
body of the occupant. In the event of
an accident, the belt will lock reducing
the risk of impact inside the passenger
compartment and of being projected
outside the vehicle.
The driver is responsible for respecting,
and ensuring that all the other
occupants of the vehicle also respect,
the local laws in force in relation to
the use of the seat belts.
Always fasten the seat belts before
setting off.
The belt should be worn keeping the
torso straight and rested against the
backrest.
To fasten the seat belts, hold tongue A
fig. 55 and insert it into buckle B, until
it clicks into place. On removal, if the
belt jams, let it rewind for a short
stretch, then pull it out again without
jerking.
69
In the event of an impact, those not
wearing a seat belt are projected
forwards, and may come into contact
with the bag which is still inflating.
The protection offered by the bag is
compromised in these circumstances.
The front airbags may not activate in
the case of a frontal impact against
highly deformable objects not involving
the front surface of the vehicle (e.g.
wing collision against guard rail) or in
the case of the vehicle wedging under
other vehicles or protective barriers
(e.g. under trucks or guard rails).
Failure to activate in the conditions
described above is due to the fact that
they may not provide any additional
protection compared with seat belts, so
their activation would be inappropriate.
In these cases, non-deployment does
not indicate a system malfunction.
The driver's and passenger's
front airbags have been designed and
calibrated to protect front seat
occupants wearing seat belts.
At their maximum inflation, their volume
fills most of the space between the
steering wheel and the driver and
between the dashboard and the
passenger. The airbags are not deployed in the
event of minor frontal impacts (for
which the restraining action of the seat
belts is sufficient). It is therefore always
necessary to wear seat belts.
Front airbag driver's side
100)This consists of an instantly inflating
bag contained in a special
compartment in the centre of the
steering wheel fig. 70.
Passenger side front airbag
This consists of an instantly inflating
bag contained in a special recess in the
dashboard fig. 71 which has a larger
volume than that of the driver.Passenger side front airbag and
child restraint systems
101)Rearward facing child restraint systems
mustNEVERbe fitted on the front
seat with an active passenger side
airbag since in the event of an impact
the airbag activation may cause fatal
injuries to the transported child.
ALWAYScomply with the instructions
on the label on the passenger side
sun visor fig. 72.

85
110)The airbags may also be deployed
when the car is not moving, if the key is in
the ignition and turned to MAR-ON or
when the engine is off, if the car is hit by
another moving vehicle. Therefore, even if
the vehicle is stationary, when an active
front passenger airbag is fitted, DO NOT
install rearward facing child restraint
systems on the front passenger seat.
Deployment of the airbag following an
impact could cause fatal injuries to the
child. Therefore, always deactivate the
passenger side airbag when a rearward
facing child restraint system is installed on
the front passenger seat. The front
passenger seat must also be positioned
back as far as possible in order to prevent
the child restraint system from coming
into contact with the dashboard.
Immediately reactivate the passenger
airbag as soon as the child restraint system
has been removed. Also remember that, if
the key is turned to STOP, none of the
safety devices (airbags or pretensioners)
will be deployed in the event of collision.
Non-deployment in such cases does
not indicate a system malfunction.111)The airbag warning lightindicates
the passenger protection status. If the
warning light is off, the passenger side
protection is activated. It can be
deactivated from the menu, in this case the
warning light comes on. When the vehicle
is started (ignition key in MAR position), the
warning light comes on for approx. 8
seconds, provided that at least 5 seconds
have elapsed from the previous switching
off. If this does not happen please contact
a Fiat Dealership. If the vehicle is switched
off/on again in less than 5 seconds the
warning light may remain off. In this case,
to check correct warning light operation,
switch the vehicle off, wait at least 5
seconds and switch on again. During the
first 8 seconds, the activation of the
warning light does not actually show the
passenger protection status, but only
checks its correct operation. The warning
light may light up with various intensity
levels depending on the vehicle conditions.
The intensity may also vary during the
same key cycle. (The warning light is tested
also for markets where the passenger
protection deactivation function is
not provided, and the warning light
switches on for less than one second when
the key is turned to MAR, then switches
off again.)
112)The airbag deployment threshold is
higher than that of the pretensioners.
For collisions in the range between the two
thresholds, it is normal for only the
pretensioners to be activated.113)The airbag does not replace seat
belts but increases their efficiency.
Because front airbags are not deployed for
low-speed crashes, side collisions,
rear-end shunts or rollovers, occupants are
protected, in addition to any side bags,
only by their seat belts, which must
therefore always be fastened.
114)If the “red”
warning light does not
switch on for a few seconds when the
key is turned to MAR, there may be a fault
with the “red” warning light. In this case,
after a few seconds, the
warning light
starts flashing. Contact a Fiat Dealership
immediately to have the system checked.
115)To deactivate the airbags using the
instrument panel menu, see the description
in the "Knowing the instrument panel"
chapter, "Setup Menu" paragraph.
