Press functions
When driving, the steering wheel
manoeuvres can be not enough to
automatically bring the lever back to its
original position. In this case, move the
lever 1 halfway and release it: it will
return to its starting point and the
direction indicator lights will flash three
times.
WARNING
33)Before travelling at night: make sure
the electrical equipment is in good
condition and check the headlight height (if
you do not have your usual load
conditions). Check that nothing interferes
with the headlight beams (dust, mud,
snow, etc.).34)The daytime running lights are an
alternative to the dipped headlights for
driving during the daytime in countries
where it is compulsory to have lights on
during the day; where it is not compulsory,
the use of daytime running lights is
permitted.
35)Daytime running lights cannot replace
dipped beam headlights when driving at
night or through tunnels. The use of
daytime running lights is governed by the
highway code of the country in which you
are driving. Comply with legal
requirements.
36)When you stop by the side of the road,
if the tailgate is completely open, the rear
lights might not be visible. Warn other road
users that your vehicle is there by placing
the pre-signal triangle or other device
allowed by law in the country you are
driving in.
INTERIOR LIGHTS
ROOF LIGHTS
Using 1 fig. 74, 2 fig. 75, or 3 fig. 75,
you get:
permanent lighting;
lighting controlled by opening one of
the doors. It will go off only when the
doors concerned are properly closed;
it will go off immediately.
IMPORTANT Unlocking and opening
the doors causes the timed lighting of
the courtesy lights.

11)After filling the AdBlue (Urea) additive
tank, check that the cap and flap are
closed, start the engine and WAIT
10 seconds with the vehicle not moving
and engine started before starting off again.
If you do not do this, the tank filling will be
automatically detected only after a few
minutes' driving. The message to that
effect and/or warning lights will still appear
until the filling has not been detected by the
system.IGNITION DEVICE

WARNING
45)If the ignition device has been
tampered with (e.g. an attempted theft),
have it checked by a Fiat Dealership before
driving again.
46)Always take the key with you when you
leave your vehicle to prevent someone
from accidentally operating the controls.
Remember to engage the parking brake.
Never leave children unattended in the
vehicle.
47)It is absolutely forbidden to carry out
any after-market operation involving
steering system or steering column
modifications (e.g. installation of anti-theft
device) that could adversely affect
performance, invalidate the warranty, cause
serious safety problems and also result in
the car not meeting type-approval
requirements.
48)Never extract the mechanical key while
the vehicle is moving. The steering wheel
will automatically lock as soon as it is
turned. This also applies to cases in which
the vehicle is towed.
49)Before exiting the vehicle, ALWAYS
engage the parking brake, steer the
wheels, engage the first gear if uphill and
the reverse if downhill. If the vehicle is
parked on a steep slope, chock the wheels
with wedges or stones. When leaving the
vehicle, always lock all the doors by
pressing the button on the key.

to approximately 30 centimetres from
the engine compartment then let it
drop. Make sure that the bonnet is
completely closed and not only
fastened by the locking device by trying
to open it. If it is not perfectly closed,
do not try to press the bonnet lid down
but open it and repeat the procedure.
WARNING
58)Before any intervention, the engine
must be turned off (and not in stand-by):
you must turn the engine off (refer to the
"Starting the engine" paragraph in the
“Starting and driving” chapter).
59)Do not lean on the bonnet: it could
close involuntarily.
60)When you intervene near the engine,
this last could be hot. Moreover, the
cooling fan could start up at any time. Risk
of injury.
61)When working in the engine
compartment, make sure that the
windscreen wiper is in the stopped
position. Risk of injury.
62)In case of a collision, even a light one
like against the cowling or bonnet, have it
checked at a Fiat Dealership as soon as
possible.63)Use both hands to lift the bonnet.
Before lifting, check that the windscreen
wiper arms are not raised from the
windscreen, that the vehicle is stationary
and that the parking brake is engaged.
64)For safety reasons, the bonnet must
always be properly closed while the car is
travelling. Therefore, make sure that the
bonnet is properly closed and that the lock
is engaged. If you discover that the bonnet
is not perfectly closed during travel, stop
immediately and close the bonnet in the
correct manner.
IMPORTANT
16)After every intervention in the engine
compartment, make sure you have not left
anything (rags, tools, etc.); basically these
could damage the engine or start a fire.109T36581

PROTECTION
SYSTEMS
85) 86)
19) 20)
3)
Depending on the trim, there could be:load limiters;
driver and front passenger airbags;
These systems are designed to function
separately or at the same time in case
of a frontal collision.
Depending on the violence of the
collision, the system activates:
seat belt locking.
seat belt pre-tensioner (which
activates the belt tension);
the airbags.
WARNING
85)Check the safety devices after every
accident.
86)Any intervention on the complete
system (pre-tensioners, airbags, electronic
modules, wiring) or re-use on another
vehicle, even if identical, is strictly
prohibited.
IMPORTANT
19)In order to prevent accidental
deployments that could cause damage,
only qualified Fiat Dealership personnel can
intervene in pre-tensioners and air bags.
20)Checking the electrical features of the
actuator can only be effected by specifically
prepared personnel using the proper tools.
IMPORTANT
3)When the vehicle is scrapped, see a Fiat
Dealership to remove the pre-tensioner gas
generator and air bags.
SEAT BELTS
87)
For obvious safety reasons, always
fasten the seat belts. In addition, always
comply with the laws of the country you
are in.
IMPORTANT For full effectiveness of the
rear seat belts, make sure that the
single rear seat is correctly locked in
place. Refer to the "Rear single seats”
paragraph in the "Knowing your vehicle”
chapter.
Before starting the engine, first adjust
the driving position and adjust the seat
belts to obtain the best possible
protection (for all the passengers).
The safety belts must always be kept
clean. Use products selected by Fiat
Dealership services or soap and warm
water, rubbing with a sponge and
drying with a dry cloth. Do not use
detergents or chemical products.
ADJUSTING THE DRIVER'S
POSITION
Sit with your back against the
backrest (after taking off clothing like
coat, jacket, etc.). This is an essential
factor for correctly positioning the back;
adjust the seat position according to
the pedals. The seat position must be
so as to allow pressing the clutch pedal
all the way. The backrest must be
inclined so arms are slightly bent;
91

adjust the head restraint. For
maximum safety, the distance between
the head and headrest must be
minimum;
adjust cushion (seat) height. This
adjustment optimises visibility;
adjust the steering wheel.
ADJUSTING THE SEAT BELTS
Sit firmly on the backrest.
The chest belt 1 fig. 169 must be as
close as possible to the neck without
touching it.
The waist belt 2 fig. 169 must be
resting on the thighs and against the
pelvis.
The belt must adhere as much as
possible to the body. (e.g. avoid
wearing clothes that are too bulky or
placing obstacles between the body
and belt).Locking
Pull out the belt slowly without forcing it
and insert the tab 3 fig. 170 into the
buckle 5 (make sure it is locked by
pulling the tab 3).
Repeat the operation if the seat belt
blocks.
If the belt is completely blocked, pull
slowly but firmly and draw out at least
3 cm. Let it rewind normally then pull it
out again. If the problem persists,
contact a Fiat Dealership.
Front seat belts not fastened
warning light
This is on the central display and turns
on when the engine is started. Then, if
the seat belt is not fastened and the
vehicle reaches 16 km/h, it flashes and
an acoustic warning turns on for about
2 minutes.
Depending on the vehicle, it flashes if
the front passenger seat belt is not
fastened.Adjusting the front seat belt height
Move the lever 6 fig. 171 to select the
adjustment position so the chest belt 1
fig. 169 adheres to the body as
described above.
After adjusting, make sure it is properly
locked in place.
Unlocking
Press button 4 fig. 170, the belt
rewinds. Accompany it as it rewinds.
Rear side belts
For the first row in the rear, you must
use belts 8 fig. 172;
for the last row at the rear, you must
use the seat belts 7 fig. 172.
When the seat belt 8 fig. 172 is not
worn, insert the tab 9 into the buckle
10.

Conditions for use: before using the
rear side seat belts, make sure that
each belt’s tab 11 fig. 173 is locked into
the buckle 12.
Locking and unlocking are done in the
same way as for the front seat belts.Access to the last row: to facilitate
access to the last row, release the
second row seat belt from the buckle
13 fig. 174.
88)
Do not forget to lock the belt again
when a passenger is sitting there.
Central seat belts
Slowly unwind the belt until you can
lock the tab into the buckle 14 fig. 175.
89)
IMPORTANT For rear seat operation,
refer to the "Rear single seats"
paragraph in the "Knowing your vehicle”
chapter.
90) 91) 92) 93) 94) 95) 96) 97) 98) 99)
WARNING
87)Seat belts that are not adjusted or are
twisted could cause injuries in case of an
accident. Use one seat belt per person,
child or adult. Even pregnant women have
to fasten their seat belts. In this case, make
sure the pelvis belt does not press too hard
on the lower stomach area, but not be too
loose either.
88)Make sure the rear seat belts are
positioned and operating properly after
adjusting the single rear seat.
89)To make full use of seat belt protection,
make sure the rear single seat is locked in
place. Read the "Single rear seat"
paragraph in the "Knowing your vehicle”
chapter.
90)Do not change the originally installed
restraining system components in any way:
belts, seats and related fasteners. In
special cases (e.g.: installing a child seat)
see a Fiat Dealership.
91)Do not use anything that could loosen
the buckles (diaper pins, clips, etc.)
because a loose seat belt can cause injury
in case of an accident.
92)Never pass the shoulder belt under
your arm or behind your back.
93)Never use the same belt for more than
one person, and never fasten your seat
belt across a newborn or child you are
holding in your lap.

94)The seat belt must not be twisted.
95)After an accident, check the seat belts
and if necessary replace them. In addition,
replace the seat belts if they start to show
any sign of wear or deterioration.
96)When refitting the single rear seat,
make sure the safety belts and their tabs
are positioned correctly so they can be
used normally.
97)Check that the seat belt locking device
is correctly inserted into the buckle.
98)Do not insert any object that could
block the belt and compromise its correct
operation.
99)Make sure you have positioned the
locking housing (it should not be covered,
crushed or flattened by people or objects).PRE-TENSIONERS
100)
When the pretensioners intervene, they
make the seat belt adhere to the seat
occupant's body, increasing the
effectiveness of the seat belt.
With starter switch on, in the event of a
violent frontal collision, depending on its
magnitude, the system may trigger the
seat belt winder pretensioner 1
fig. 176causing it to retract the belt
immediately.
LOAD LIMITERS
Depending on the collision’s degree of
violence, this mechanism activates to
limit the seat belt action against the
body to a supportable level.
WARNING
100)Check the safety devices after every
accident. Any intervention on the complete
system (pre-tensioners, air bags, electronic
modules, wiring) or re-use on another
vehicle, even if identical, is strictly
prohibited. In order to prevent accidental
deployments that could cause damage,
only qualified Fiat Dealership personnel can
intervene in pre-tensioners and air bags.
Checking the electrical features of the
actuator can only be effected by
specifically prepared personnel using the
proper tools. When the vehicle is
scrapped, see a Fiat Dealership to remove
the pre-tensioner gas generator and air
bags.
