Note:Fully defrost the windshield beforeswitching on the windshield wipers.
Note:Make sure the windshield wipers areswitched off before entering a car wash.
Note:Install new wiper blades as soon asthey begin to leave bands of water andsmears on the windshield.
Note:Do not operate the wipers on a drywindshield. This may scratch the glass,damage the wiper blades or cause the wipermotor to burn out. Always use thewindshield washers before wiping a drywindshield.

Speed Dependent Wipers
When your vehicle speed increases, theinterval between wipes will decrease.
AUTOWIPERS
Note:Fully defrost the windshield beforeswitching on the windshield wipers.
Note:Make sure the windshield wipers areswitched off before entering a car wash.
Note:Clean the windshield and wiperblades if they begin to leave streaks orsmears. If that does not resolve the issue,install new wiper blades.
Note:If you switch autolamps on inconjunction with autowipers, low beamheadlamps will illuminate automaticallywhen the rain sensor activates thewindshield wipers continuously.
Wet or winter driving conditions with ice,snow or salty road mist can causeinconsistent and unexpected wiping orsmearing.

•Lower the sensitivity of the autowipers.
•Change the wiper speed to normal orhigh speed wipe as necessary.
•Switch the autowipers off.

The wipers will function when water isdetected on the windshield. The rainsensor will continue to monitor the amountof water on the windshield and adjust thespeed of the wipers automatically. Thisfeature can be switched on or off in theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 63).
Note:When you switch this feature off, thewipers will return to the variable intermittentsetting based on the sensitivity you haveset.
Use the rotary control to adjust thesensitivity of the rain sensor. On minimumautowipe, the wipers will operate when thesensor detects a large amount of water onthe windshield. On maximum autowipe,the wipers will operate when the sensordetects a small amount of water on thewindshield.
Keep the outside of the windshield clean.Sensor performance will be affected if thearea around the interior mirror is dirty. Therain sensor is very sensitive and the wipersmay operate if dirt, mist or flies hit thewindshield.
WINDSHIELD WASHERS
Note:Do not operate the washers whenthe washer reservoir is empty. This maycause the washer pump to overheat.
Push the button to operate the washers.When you release the button, the wiperswill operate for a short time.

Pull the lever toward you.

Pull the lever fully toward you to switchthe high beams on.
Push the lever forward to switch the highbeams off.
Headlamp Flasher
Pull the lever toward you slightly andrelease it to flash the headlamps.
AUTOLAMPS
Note:It may be necessary to switch yourheadlamps on manually in severe weatherconditions.
Note:If you have autolamps on, you canonly switch the high beam on onceautolamps has switched the headlamps on.
Note:If you have autolamps on, you canonly switch the front fog lamps on onceautolamps has switched the headlamps on.
The headlamps will switch on and offautomatically in low light situations orduring inclement weather.
The headlamps will remain on for a periodof time after you switch the ignition off.You can adjust the time delay using theinformation display controls. SeeInformation Displays (page 63).
Note:If you switch autolamps on inconjunction with autowipers, low beamheadlamps will illuminate automaticallywhen the rain sensor turns on the windshieldwipers continuously.

Outside Air
Keep the air intakes in front of thewindshield free from obstruction (such assnow or leaves) to allow the climatecontrol system to function effectively.
Recirculated Air
WARNING
Prolonged use of recirculated air maycause the windows to mist up. If thewindows mist up, follow the settingsfor demisting the windshield.
The air currently in the passengercompartment recirculates. Outside air doesnot enter your vehicle.
Heating
Heating performance depends on thetemperature of the engine coolant.
Air Conditioning
Note:The air conditioning operates onlywhen the temperature is above 39°F (4°C).
Note:When you use air conditioning, yourvehicle uses more fuel.
The system directs air through theevaporator for cooling. The evaporatorextracts humidity from the air to help keepthe windows free of mist. The systemdirects the resulting condensation to theoutside of your vehicle, which may causea small pool to form under your vehicle.This is normal.
General Information on Controllingthe Interior Climate
Fully close all the windows.
Warming the Interior
Direct the air toward your feet. In cold orhumid weather conditions, direct some ofthe air toward the windshield and the doorwindows.
Cooling the Interior
Direct the air toward your face.

Fan speed control: Controls the volume of air circulated in your vehicle. Adjustto select the desired fan speed or switch off. If you switch the fan off, thewindshield may fog up.

On and off: Press the button to turn the system on and off. When the systemis off, outside air is prevented from entering your vehicle.B
Recirculated air: Press the button to switch between outside air andrecirculated air. When you select recirculated air, the button illuminates andthe air currently in the passenger compartment recirculates. This can reducethe time needed to cool the interior and reduce unwanted odors from enteringyour vehicle.

Air distribution control: Adjust to select the desired air distribution.D
Heated windshield: Press the button to defog and clear the windshield of athin covering of ice.E
Temperature control: Controls the temperature of the air circulated in yourvehicle. Adjust to select the desired temperature. If you select MAX A/C, thesystem distributes recirculated air through the instrument panel air vents. Thismode is more economical and efficient than normal air conditioning.

Windshield defrosting and defogging: Press the button to distribute outsideair through the windshield air vents. The heated windows and air conditioningwill be automatically selected. The fan will be set to the highest speed and thetemperature to high. When the air distribution is set in this position, you will beunable to select recirculated air or manually adjust the fan speed andtemperature control. Press the AUTO button to return the system to auto mode.

AUTO: Press the button to select automatic operation. The systemautomatically controls the temperature, amount and distribution of the airflowto reach and maintain your previously selected temperature.
M
MAX A/C: Press the button to distribute maximum air conditioning throughthe instrument panel air vents. This mode is more economical and efficientthan normal air conditioning.
