•Lower the sensitivity of the autowipers.
•Change the wiper speed to normal orhigh speed wipe as necessary.
•Switch the autowipers off.

The wipers will function when water isdetected on the windshield. The rainsensor will continue to monitor the amountof water on the windshield and adjust thespeed of the wipers automatically. Thisfeature can be switched on or off in theinformation display. See GeneralInformation (page 63).
Note:When you switch this feature off, thewipers will return to the variable intermittentsetting based on the sensitivity you haveset.
Use the rotary control to adjust thesensitivity of the rain sensor. On minimumautowipe, the wipers will operate when thesensor detects a large amount of water onthe windshield. On maximum autowipe,the wipers will operate when the sensordetects a small amount of water on thewindshield.
Keep the outside of the windshield clean.Sensor performance will be affected if thearea around the interior mirror is dirty. Therain sensor is very sensitive and the wipersmay operate if dirt, mist or flies hit thewindshield.
WINDSHIELD WASHERS
Note:Do not operate the washers whenthe washer reservoir is empty. This maycause the washer pump to overheat.
Push the button to operate the washers.When you release the button, the wiperswill operate for a short time.

Pull the lever toward you.

The rear wiper will turn on automaticallywhen selecting reverse gear if:
•the rear wiper is not already switchedon
•the wiper lever is in position A, B, C orD
•the front wiper is operating (when setto position B).
Rear Window Washer
Note:Do not operate the washers whenthe washer reservoir is empty. This maycause the washer pump to overheat.
Pull the lever toward you to operate thewashers. They will operate for a maximumof 10 seconds. When you release the lever,the wiper will operate for a short time.

Manual Folding and Unfolding
Note:You can only fold the mirrors whenthe mirror switch is set to position B off.
The electric folding mirrors operate withthe ignition on.
Note:You can operate the mirrors (mirrortilting and folding) for several minutes afteryou switch the ignition off. If you open a dooryou can no longer operate the mirrors.
Press the downward arrow to fold orunfold the mirrors.
If you press the switch again while themirrors are moving, they will stop andreverse the direction of movement.
Note:When the mirrors are operated oftenduring a short period of time, the systemmay become inoperable for a period of timeto prevent damage due to overheating.
Fold-Away Exterior Mirrors
Push the mirror toward the door windowglass. Make sure that you fully engage themirror in its support when returning it to itsoriginal position.
INTERIOR MIRROR
WARNING
Do not adjust the mirror when yourvehicle is moving.
Note:Do not clean the housing or glass ofany mirror with harsh abrasives, fuel or otherpetroleum or ammonia-based cleaningproducts.
You can adjust the interior mirror to yourpreference. Some mirrors also have asecond pivot point. This lets you move themirror head up or down and from side toside.
Pull the tab below the mirror toward youto reduce glare at night.
Auto-Dimming Mirror (If Equipped)
Note:Do not block the sensors on the frontand back of the mirror. Mirror performancemay be affected. A rear center passenger orraised rear center head restraint may alsoblock light from reaching the sensor.
The mirror will dim automatically to reduceglare when bright lights are detected frombehind your vehicle. It will automaticallyreturn to normal reflection when you selectreverse gear to make sure you have a clearview when backing up.

WARNING
People who are unable to feel painto their skin because of advancedage, chronic illness, diabetes, spinalcord injury, medication, alcohol use,exhaustion or other physical conditions,must exercise care when using the heatedseat. The heated seat may cause burnseven at low temperatures, especially ifused for long periods of time. Do not placeanything on the seat that insulates againstheat, such as a blanket or cushion. Thismay cause the heated seat to overheat.Do not puncture the seat with pins, needlesor other pointed objects. This may damagethe heating element which may cause theheated seat to overheat. An overheatedseat may cause serious personal injury.
Do not do the following:
•Place heavy objects on the seat.
•Operate the heated seat if water or anyother liquid is spilled on the seat. Allowthe seat to dry thoroughly.
•Operate the heated seats unless theengine is running. Doing so could drainyour vehicle battery.

The heated seat will only operate with theignition switched on.
The maximum temperature is reachedafter five or six minutes. It is regulatedthermostatically.
The heated seat will remain on until eitherthe heated seat switch or the ignition isswitched off.

WARNING
Do not idle the engine for longperiods of time in drive with thebrakes applied.
Moving Off
1.Release the parking brake.
2.Release the brake pedal and press theaccelerator pedal.
Stopping
1.Release the accelerator pedal andpress the brake pedal.
2.Apply the parking brake.
3.Move the transmission selector leverto N or P.
Kickdown
Press the accelerator pedal fully with thetransmission selector lever in the driveposition to select the next lowest gear foroptimum performance. Release theaccelerator pedal when you no longerrequire kickdown.
If Your Vehicle Gets Stuck In Mud orSnow
Note:Do not rock your vehicle if the engineis not at normal operating temperature ordamage to the transmission may occur.
Note:Do not rock your vehicle for morethan a minute or damage to thetransmission and tires may occur, or theengine may overheat.
If your vehicle gets stuck in mud or snow,it may be rocked out by shifting betweenforward and reverse gears, stoppingbetween shifts in a steady pattern. Presslightly on the accelerator in each gear.
Emergency Park Position ReleaseLever
WARNINGS
Do not drive your vehicle until youverify that the brake lamps areworking.
If the parking brake is fully released,but the brake warning lamp remainsilluminated, the brakes may not beworking correctly. See an authorizeddealer.
Use the lever to move the transmissionselector lever from the park position in theevent of an electrical malfunction or if yourvehicle battery has no charge.
1.Apply the parking brake and switch theignition off before performing thisprocedure.
2.Remove the retaining screw.
3.Remove the center console side panel.

WARNINGS
Only add oil when the engine is cold.If the engine is hot, wait 10 minutesfor the engine to cool down. Failureto take care may result in personal injury.
Do not remove the filler cap whenthe engine is running. Failure to takecare may result in personal injury.
1.Remove the filler cap.
2.Add oil that meets Ford specifications.See Technical Specifications (page169).
3.Replace the filler cap. Turn it until youfeel a strong resistance.
Note:Do not add oil further than themaximum mark. Oil levels above themaximum mark may cause engine damage.
Note:Soak up any spillage with anabsorbent cloth immediately.
ENGINE COOLANT CHECK
WARNING
Do not allow the fluid to touch yourskin or eyes. If this happens, rinse theaffected areas immediately withplenty of water and contact your physician.
Note:Make sure that the level is betweenthe MIN and the MAX marks.
Note:Coolant expands when it is hot. Thelevel may therefore extend beyond the MAXmark.
If the level is at the MIN mark, add coolantimmediately.
Adding Engine Coolant
WARNINGS
Only add coolant when the engine iscold. If the engine is hot, wait 10minutes for the engine to cool down.
Do not remove the filler cap whenthe engine is running.

Undiluted coolant is flammable andmay ignite if spilt on a hot exhaust.
Note:In an emergency, you can add justwater to the cooling system to reach avehicle service station. Have the systemchecked by an authorized dealer as soon aspossible.
Note:Prolonged use of incorrect dilutionof the coolant can cause engine damagefrom corrosion, overheating or freezing.
Note:Do not add coolant further than theMAX mark.
1.Remove the filler cap. Any pressure willescape slowly as you unscrew the cap.
2.Add a 50/50 mixture of coolant andwater using fluid that meets the Fordspecifications. See TechnicalSpecifications (page 169).
3.Replace the filler cap. Turn it until youfeel a strong resistance.

WARNINGS
Do not exceed 30 mph (50 km/h).
Do not use snow chains on snow-freeroads.
Only fit snow chains to specifiedtires. See Technical Specifications(page 183).
If your vehicle has wheel trims,remove them before fitting snowchains.
Note:The anti-lock braking system willcontinue to operate normally.
Only use small link snow chains.
Only use snow chains on the front wheels.
Vehicles with Stability Control
When stability control is on, your vehiclemay exhibit some unusual drivingcharacteristics. To reduce this, switchtraction control off. See Using StabilityControl (page 111).
TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING
SYSTEM
WARNINGS
The system does not relieve you ofyour responsibility to regularly checkthe tire pressures.
The system will only provide a lowtire pressure warning. It will notinflate the tires.
WARNINGS
Do not drive on significantlyunder-inflated tires. This may causethe tires to overheat and fail.Under-inflation reduces fuel efficiency, tiretread life and may also affect your abilityto drive your vehicle safely.
Do not bend or damage the valveswhen you are inflating the tires.
Have tires installed by an authorizeddealer.
The deflation detection system will alertyou if there is a change of air pressure inany tire. It does this by using the anti-lockbraking sensors to detect the rollingcircumference of the wheels. When thecircumference changes, this indicates lowtire pressure. A warning message isdisplayed in the information display andthe message indicator will illuminate. SeeInformation Messages (page 67).
If a low pressure warning message isdisplayed in the information display, checkthe tire pressures as soon as possible andinflate them to the recommendedpressure. See Technical Specifications(page 183).
If this happens frequently, have the causedetermined and rectified as soon aspossible.
Apart from a too low tire pressure or adamaged tire, the following situations canaffect the rolling circumference:
•Vehicle load is uneven.
•When using a trailer or traveling up anddown an incline.
•Using snow chains.
•Driving on soft surfaces such as snowor mud.
Note:The system will still functioncorrectly, but there may be an increaseddetection time.
