CHECKING THE MANUAL
TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL
Transmission fill level is 0.16 in (4 mm)from oil fill plug.
CHECKING THE CLUTCH FLUID
LEVEL
1.Check the system for any visual leaksbefore continuing.
2.Make sure the clutch pedal is in themost upward position.
3.Remove the cap and diaphragm andinspect the fluid level. To avoidcontamination, make sure the reservoircap remains in place and fullytightened unless you are checking thefluid level.
4.Reinstall the reservoir cap anddiaphragm.
Only use fluid that meets ourspecifications. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 401).
Note:A fluid level on the step line in thereservoir is within the normal operatingrange and there is no need to add fluid. Afluid level not in the normal operating rangecould compromise the performance of thesystem. Have your vehicle checkedimmediately.

ENGINE OIL CAPACITY ANDSPECIFICATION
For filling information, please refer to theCapacities and Specifications section ofyour owner's manual. See Engine OilCapacity and Specification (page 405).
CHECKING THE COOLANT
When the engine is cold, check theconcentration and level of the coolant atthe intervals listed in the scheduledmaintenance information. See ScheduledMaintenance (page 459).
Note:Make sure that the coolant level isbetween the minimum and maximum markson the coolant reservoir.
Note: Coolant expands when it is hot. Thelevel may extend beyond the MAX mark.
If the coolant level is at or below theminimum mark, add prediluted coolantimmediately.
Maintain coolant concentration within48% to 50%, which equates to a freezepoint between -29°F (-34°C) and -35°F(-37°C). Coolant concentration should bechecked using a refractometer. We do notrecommend the use of hydrometers orcoolant test strips for measuring coolantconcentration.
Adding Coolant
WARNING: Keep your hands andclothing clear of the cooling fan.

Use oil that meets the definedspecification and viscosity grade.
If you do not use oil that meets the definedspecification and viscosity grade, it couldresult in:
•Component damage that your vehiclewarranty does not cover.
•Longer engine cranking periods.
•Increased emission levels.
•Reduced vehicle performance.
•Reduced fuel economy.
An oil that displays this symbol conformsto current engine, emission system andfuel economy performance standards ofILSAC.
We recommend Motorcraft motor oil foryour vehicle. If Motorcraft oil is notavailable, use motor oils of therecommended viscosity grade that displaythe API Certification Mark for gasolineengines.
