VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER
Complete Ford built vehicles
The vehicle identification number is attached to your vehicle in the
following places:
²On the metal tag attached to the top of the instrument panel on the
driver's side.
²On the safety compliance
certification label. This label is
required by the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration and
is made of special material. If it is
tampered with, it will be
destroyed or a destruction
pattern will appear.
Incomplete vehicles
On completed derivations of incomplete vehicles, the safety compliance
certification label is affixed at a location determined by a subsequent
stage manufacturer of the completed vehicle. In these cases the
completed vehicle is manufactured in two or more stages by two or more
separate manufacturers.

2Ensure correct automatic transmission fluid is used for a specific
application. Check the container to verify the fluid is MERCONtand/or
MERCONtV approved. Some fluids have been approved as meeting both
MERCONtand MERCONtV requirements and will be labeled as such.
Fluids labeled as meeting only MERCONtor only MERCONtV
requirements must not be used interchangeably. DO NOT mix MERCONt
and MERCONtV. Transmission fluid requirements are indicated on the
dipstick or on the dipstick handle. Refer to your ªService Guideº to
determine the correct service interval.
