Only use oils certified for gasoline enginesby the American Petroleum Institute (API).An oil with this trademark symbolconforms to the current engine andemission system protection standards andfuel economy requirements of theInternational Lubricants SpecificationAdvisory Committee (ILSAC).
To top up the engine oil level do thefollowing:
1.Clean the area surrounding the engineoil filler cap before you remove it.
2.Remove the engine oil filler cap. SeeUnder Hood Overview (page 203).Turn it counterclockwise and removeit.
3.Add engine oil that meets Fordspecifications. See Capacities andSpecifications (page 279). SeeCapacities and Specifications (page279). You may have to use a funnel topour the engine oil into the opening.
4.Recheck the oil level.
5.If the oil level is correct, replace thedipstick and make sure it is fully seated.
6.Replace the engine oil filler cap. Turnit clockwise until you feel a strongresistance.
Note: Do not add oil further than themaximum mark. Oil levels above themaximum mark may cause engine damage.
Note:Make sure you install the oil filler capcorrectly.
Note:Soak up any spillage with anabsorbent cloth immediately.
OIL CHANGE INDICATOR
RESET (If Equipped)
Only reset the system after changing theengine oil and oil filter.
Resetting the Oil Life MonitoringSystem
1.Switch the ignition on. Do not start theengine.
2.Fully press the accelerator and brakepedals at the same time.
3.Keep the accelerator and brake pedalsfully pressed.
4.After three seconds, a messageappears confirming that the reset is inprogress.
5.After 25 seconds, a message appearsconfirming that the reset is complete.
6.Release the accelerator and brakepedals.
7.Switch the ignition off.
ENGINE COOLING FAN
WARNING
Keep your hands and clothing clearof the engine cooling fan.
Under certain conditions, the enginecooling fan may continue to run for severalminutes after you switch your vehicle off.This could happen in low ambienttemperatures and independent of theengine coolant temperature, for exampleshort journeys or low coolant temperature.

For longer, trouble-free operation, keep thetop of the battery clean and dry and thebattery cables tightly fastened to thebattery terminals. If any corrosion ispresent on the battery or terminals, removethe cables from the terminals and cleanwith a wire brush. You can neutralize theacid with a solution of baking soda andwater.
We recommend that you disconnect thenegative battery cable terminal from thebattery if you plan to store your vehicle foran extended period.
To maintain correct operation of thebattery management system, if you addany electrical devices to your vehicle, donot connect the ground connection directlyto the negative battery terminal. Aconnection at the negative battery terminalcan cause inaccurate measurements ofthe battery condition and potentialincorrect system operation.
Note:Electrical accessories or componentsadded to your vehicle by you or anauthorized dealer, may adversely affectbattery performance, durability and theperformance of other electrical systems onyour vehicle.
If a replacement battery is required, werecommend you use a Ford replacementbattery that matches the electricalrequirements of your vehicle.
If you disconnect or replace the batteryand your vehicle has an automatictransmission, transmission must relearnits adaptive strategy. Because of this, thetransmission may shift firmly when firstdriven. This is normal operation while thetransmission fully updates its operation tooptimum shift feel.
Remove and Reinstall the Battery
To disconnect or remove the battery, dothe following:
1.Apply the parking brake and switch theignition off.
2.Switch all electrical equipment off, forexample lights and radio.
3.Wait a minimum of two minutes beforedisconnecting the battery.
Note:The engine management system hasa power hold function and remains poweredfor a period after you switch the ignition off.This is to allow diagnostic and adaptivetables to be stored. Disconnecting thebattery without waiting can cause damagenot covered by the vehicle Warranty.
4.Disconnect the negative (-) batterycable terminal first.
5.Disconnect the positive (+) batterycable terminal last.
6.Remove the battery securing clamp.
7.Remove the battery.
8.Install in the reverse order.
Note:Before reconnecting the battery,make sure the ignition remains switched off.
Note:If you only disconnect the negativebattery cable terminal, make sure it isisolated or placed away from the batteryterminal to avoid un-intended connectionor arcing.
Note:Make sure the battery cable terminalsare fully tightened.
Note:If you disconnect or replace thebattery, you must reset the clock and thepre-set radio stations once the battery isreconnected.
Battery Disposal
Make sure that you dispose ofold batteries in anenvironmentally friendly way.Seek advice from your local authorityabout recycling old batteries.

Disconnect the electrical connector.
Note:When fitting the headlamp, makesure that you reconnect the electricalconnector correctly.
Note:When fitting the headlamp, makesure that you fully engage the headlamp inthe lower fixing point.
CHANGING A BULB
Note:Handle a halogen headlamp bulbcarefully and keep out of children’s reach.Grasp the bulb by only its plastic base anddo not touch the glass. The oil from yourhand could cause the bulb to break the nexttime the headlamps are operated.
WARNING
Bulbs can become hot. Let the bulbcool down before removing it. Failureto do so could result in personalinjury.
Note:Switch the lights and the ignition off.
Note:Do not touch the bulb glass.
Note:Only fit bulbs of the correctspecification.
Note:The following instructions describehow to remove the bulbs. Fit replacementsin the reverse order unless otherwise stated.

•Spray Motorcraft Engine Shampoo andDegreaser on all parts that requirecleaning and pressure rinse clean. InCanada, use Motorcraft EngineShampoo.
•Never wash or rinse the engine while itis hot or running; water in the runningengine may cause internal damage.
•Never wash or rinse any ignition coil,spark plug wire or spark plug well, orthe area in and around these locations.
•Cover the battery, power distributionbox, and air filter assembly to preventwater damage when cleaning theengine.
CLEANING THE WINDOWS AND
WIPER BLADES
Car wash chemicals and environmentalfallout can result in windshield and wiperblade contamination. Dirty windshield andwipers will result in poor windshield wiperoperation. Keep the windshield and wiperblades clean to maintain windshield wiperperformance.
To clean the windshield and wiper blades:
•Clean the windshield with anon-abrasive glass cleaner. Whencleaning the interior of the windshield,avoid getting any glass cleaner on theinstrument panel or door panels. Wipeany glass cleaner off these surfacesimmediately.
•For windshields contaminated withtree sap, chemicals, wax or bugs, cleanthe entire windshield using steel wool(no greater than 0000 grade) in acircular motion and rinse with water.
•Clean the wiper blades with isopropylrubbing alcohol or windshield washerconcentrate.
Note: Do not use razor blades or othersharp objects to clean or remove decalsfrom the inside of the heated rear window.The vehicle warranty does not coverdamage caused to the heated rear windowgrid lines.
CLEANING THE INTERIOR
WARNINGS
Do not use cleaning solvents, bleachor dye on the vehicle's seatbelts, asthese actions may weaken the beltwebbing.
On vehicles equipped withseat-mounted airbags, do not usechemical solvents or strongdetergents. Such products couldcontaminate the side airbag system andaffect performance of the side airbag in acrash.
For fabric, carpets, cloth seats and seatsequipped with side airbags:
•Remove dust and loose dirt with avacuum cleaner.
•Remove light stains and soil withMotorcraft Professional StrengthCarpet & Upholstery Cleaner.
•If grease or tar is present on thematerial, spot-clean the area first withMotorcraft Spot and Stain Remover. InCanada, use Motorcraft Multi-PurposeCleaner.
•If a ring forms on the fabric after spotcleaning, clean the entire areaimmediately (but do not oversaturate)or the ring will set.
•Do not use household cleaningproducts or glass cleaners, which canstain and discolor the fabric and affectthe flame retardant abilities of the seatmaterials.

Vehicle Jack (If Equipped)
WARNINGS
The jack should be used on level firmground wherever possible.
Switch the ignition off and apply thepark brake fully before lifting vehicle.
It is recommended that the wheelsof the vehicle be chocked, and thatno person should remain in a vehiclethat is being jacked.
No person should place any portionof their body under a vehicle that issupported by a jack.
The jack supplied with this vehicle isonly intended for changing wheels.Do not use the vehicle jack otherthan when you are changing a wheel in anemergency.
Check that the vehicle jack is notdamaged or deformed and thethread is lubricated and clean.
Never place anything between thevehicle jack and the ground.
Never place anything between thevehicle jack and your vehicle.
Note:No maintenance or additionallubrication of your jack is required over theservice life of your vehicle.
Vehicle Jack Storage
The vehicle jack, lug wrench, towing hookand the key for the spare wheel lock arelocated in a tool kit under the floor coverin the luggage compartment.
1.Remove the jack, lug wrench, andlocking key for the spare wheel fromthe tool kit.
2.Unfold the hex end of the socket fromthe wrench handle for use.
3.If equipped, unlatch and remove thespare wheel cover.
4.Remove the spare wheel before jackingthe vehicle.

Note:The spare wheel is located on thetailgate.
To remove the spare wheel, loosen andremove the locking nut using the lugwrench and the spare wheel lock key.Loosen and remove the remaining lug nutssecuring the spare wheel to the tailgate.
Jacking and Lifting Points
WARNING
Use only the specified jacking points.If you use other positions, you maydamage the body, steering,suspension, engine, braking system or thefuel lines.
Locate the vehicle jacking points.Small arrow-shaped marksindicate the locations.

Removing a Road Wheel
WARNINGS
Park your vehicle in such a positionthat neither the traffic nor you arehindered or endangered.
Park your vehicle so that you do notobstruct the flow of traffic or placeyourself in any danger and set up awarning triangle.
Make sure that your vehicle is on firmand level ground with the frontwheels pointing straight ahead.
Switch the ignition off and apply theparking brake.
If your vehicle has a manualtransmission, shift into first or reversegear. If your vehicle has an automatictransmission, shift into park (P).
Make sure all passengers are out ofyour vehicle.
Secure the diagonally oppositewheel with an appropriate block orwheel chock.
Make sure that the arrows ondirectional tires point in the directionof rotation when your vehicle ismoving forward. If you have to fit a sparetire with the arrows pointing in the oppositedirection have the tire refitted as soon aspossible.
Do not work on your vehicle whenthe jack is the only support. If thevehicle slips off the jack, you orsomeone else could be seriously injured.
Make sure that the vehicle jack isvertical to the jacking point and thebase is flat on the ground.
1.Loosen each wheel lug nut one-halfturn counterclockwise, but do notremove them.

USING SYNC™ WITH YOUR
PHONE
Hands-free calling is one of the mainfeatures of SYNC. While the systemsupports a variety of features, many aredependent on your cellular phone'sfunctionality. At a minimum, most cellularphones with Bluetooth wireless technologysupport the following functions:
•Answering an incoming call.
•Ending a call.
•Dialing a number.
•Redialing.
•Call waiting notification.
•Caller ID.
Other features, such as text messagingusing Bluetooth and automatic phonebookdownload, are phone-dependent features.
Pairing a Phone
Wirelessly pairing your phone with SYNCallows you to make and receive hands-freecalls.
Note:Make sure to switch on the ignitionand the radio. Shift the transmission intopark (P) for automatic transmission or firstgear for manual transmission.
Using the Audio System
Note:To scroll through the menus, pressthe up and down arrows on your audiosystem.
1.Make sure to switch on your phone'sBluetooth feature before starting thesearch. See your device's manual ifnecessary.
2.Press the Settings button.
3.Select Bluetooth from the menu.
4.Press the OK button.
5.Select the option to add. This startsthe pairing process.
6.When a message to begin pairingappears in the audio display, search forSYNC on your device.

Reset the Bluetooth on yourphone by turning it off andthen turning Bluetooth backon. If you are in your vehicle,SYNC should be able toautomatically re-connect toyour phone if you press the"Phone" button.
There is a Bluetooth bug onsome older versions of theAndroid operating systemthat may cause apps thatwere found on your previousvehicle drive to not be foundagain if you have not turnedoff Bluetooth.
My Android phone isconnected, my app(s) arerunning, I restarted them,but I still cannot find anyapps.
