MAX A/C: Press the button for maximum cooling. Recirculated air flows throughthe instrument panel vents, air conditioning automatically turns on and the fanautomatically adjusts to the highest speed.

Recirculated air: Press the button to switch between outside air andrecirculated air. The air currently in the passenger compartment recirculates.This can reduce the time needed to cool the interior and reduce unwanted odorsfrom entering your vehicle.

Note: Recirculated air may also turn on and off automatically in instrumentpanel or instrument panel and floor airflow modes during hot weather to improvecooling efficiency.
Passenger temperature control: Adjusts the temperature on the passengerside.I
Fan speed control: Adjusts the volume of air circulated in the vehicle.J
AUTO: Press the button to switch on automatic operation. Adjust to select thedesired temperature. Fan speed, air distribution, air conditioning operation, andoutside or recirculated air are automatically adjusted to heat or cool the vehicleto maintain the desired temperature. You can also switch off dual zone modeby pressing and holding the button for more than two seconds.

Air distribution control: Adjust the control to turn airflow from the windshield,instrument panel, or footwell vents on or off. You can distribute air through anycombination of these vents.

General Hints
Note:Prolonged use of recirculated air maycause the windows to fog up.
Note:You may feel a small amount of airfrom the footwell air vents regardless of theair distribution setting.
Note:To reduce humidity build-up insideyour vehicle, do not drive with the systemswitched off or with recirculated air alwaysswitched on.
Note:Do not place objects under the frontseats as this may interfere with the airflowto the rear seats.
Note:Remove any snow, ice or leaves fromthe air intake area at the base of thewindshield.
Note:To improve the time to reach comfortin hot weather, drive with the windows fullyopen until you feel cold air through the airvents.
Manual Climate Control
Note:To reduce fogging of the windshieldduring humid weather, adjust the airdistribution control to the windshield airvents position.

Climate Control

Move the front passenger seat forward sothat the second row seat head restraintclears the front seat.
1.Lower the head restraints by pulling onthe strap.
2. Locate the handle on the side of theseat cushion by the door.
3. Pull up on the handle and push theseatback forward toward the front ofthe vehicle.
To return the seat to the upright position:
1.Lift the seatback toward the rear of thevehicle.
2. Rotate the seatback until you hear aclick, locking it in the upright position.
3. Lift up on the head restraint until itlocks into its original position.
Placing the Second Row Outboard40% Seats in Cargo Mode
WARNINGS
Use caution when folding theseatback to the flat back position asthe system will move forward whenyou lift the release handle.
Always return the seat from thekneel position prior to raising theseatback. Failure to do so couldresult in personal injury.

Place the second-row seats in a kneeldown load floor position to allow morecargo space.
To place the seats in the cargo mode:
1. Fold down the second row seat.
2.Pull the cargo mode lever up to releasethe seat into a kneel down load floorposition.
Returning to the Upright Positionfrom the Full Lowered Load FloorPosition
You cannot return the seatback to theupright position until the seat is returnedfrom the kneel down position.
To return the seat to the upright position:
1. Push the seat rearward until the latchis engaged.
2. Return the seatback to the uprightposition.
Adjusting the Second RowOutboard 40% Seat for E-Z Entry
WARNINGS
Always latch the vehicle seat to thefloor, whether the seat is occupiedor empty. If not latched, the seat maycause injury during a sudden stop.
After using the E-Z Entry feature,make sure there are not any objects,cargo or the feet of a third rowpassenger under the second row seatwhen latching the seat to the floor. Injuryto the third row passengers feet or damageto the seat may occur.
Before returning the seatback to itsoriginal position, make sure thatcargo or any objects are not trappedbehind the seatback. After returning theseatback to its original position, pull on theseatback to make sure that it has fullylatched. An unlatched seat may becomedangerous in the event of a sudden stopor crash.
The E-Z entry seat allows for easier entryand exit to and from the third row seat.

Gate Operator / CanadianProgramming
Canadian radio-frequency laws requiretransmitter signals to “time-out” (or quit)after several seconds of transmission –which may not be long enough forHomeLink to pick up the signal duringprogramming. Similar to this Canadian law,some U.S. gate operators are designed to“time-out” in the same manner.
Note:If programming a garage door openeror gate operator, it is advised to unplug thedevice during the “cycling” process toprevent possible overheating.
1. Press and hold the HomeLink buttonwhile you press and release,every twoseconds, your hand-held transmitteruntil the HomeLink indicator lightchanges from a slow to a rapidlyblinking light.
2. Release both the HomeLink andhand-held transmitter buttons.
3. Continue programing HomeLink. SeeIn-Vehicle Programming.
Erasing the Function Button Codes
Note:You cannot erase individual buttons.
1. Press and hold the outer two functionbuttons simultaneously forapproximately 20 seconds until theindicator lights above the buttons flashrapidly.
2.When the indicator lights flash, releasethe buttons. The codes for all buttonsare erased.
Reprogramming a Single Button
To program a device to a previously trainedbutton, follow these steps:
1. Press and hold the desired button. DoNOT release the button.
2. The indicator light will begin to flashafter 20 seconds. Without releasing thebutton, follow Step 1 in theProgramming section.

1. Press and hold one of the buttons onthe hand-held transmitter for 10seconds. The indicator light will changefrom green to red and green.
2.Press the same button twice to confirmthe change to programming mode. Ifdone properly the indicator light willappear red.
3. Hold the transmitter within 1–3 inches(2–8 centimeters) of the button on thevisor you want to program.
4. Press and hold both the programmedGenie button on the hand-heldtransmitter and the button you wantto program. The indicator light on thevisor will flash rapidly when theprogramming is successful.
Note:The Genie transmitter will transmitfor up to 30 seconds. If HomeLink does notprogram within 30 seconds the Genietransmitter will need to be pressed again. Ifthe Genie transmitter indicator light displaysgreen and red, release the button until theindicator light turns off before pressing thebutton again.
Once HomeLink has been programmedsuccessfully, the Genie transmitter mustbe changed out of program mode. To dothis:
1. Press and hold the previouslyprogrammed Genie button on thehand-held transmitter for 10 seconds.The indicator light will change from redto red and green.
2.Press the same button twice to confirmthe change. If done correctly theindicator light will turn green.
Programming HomeLink to the GenieIntellicode Garage Door Opener Motor
Note:You may need a ladder to access thegarage door opener motor.
1. Press and hold the program button onthe garage door opener motor untilboth blue indicator lights turn on.
2. Release the program button. Only thesmaller round indicator light should beon.
3.Press and release the program button.The larger purple indicator light willflash.
Note:The next two steps must becompleted in 30 seconds.
4.Press and release the Genie Intellicode2 hand-held transmitter’s previouslyprogrammed button. Both indicatorlights on the garage door opener motorunit should now flash purple.

5. Press and hold the previouslyprogrammed button on the visor for 2seconds. Repeat this step up to 3 timesuntil the garage door moves.
Programming is now complete.
Clearing a HomeLink Device
To erase programming from the threeHomeLink buttons press and hold the twoouter HomeLink buttons until the indicatorlight begins to flash. The indicator light willbegin flashing in 10 to 20 seconds, at whichtime both buttons should be released.Programming has now been erased, andthe indicator light should blink slowly toindicate the device is in train mode whenany of the three HomeLink buttons arepressed.

Ignition Modes
The keyless starting system has threemodes:
Off: Turns the ignition off.
•Without applying the brake pedal,press and release the button oncewhen the ignition is in the on mode, orwhen the engine is running but yourvehicle is not moving.
On: All electrical circuits are operationaland the warning lamps and indicatorsilluminate.
•Without applying the brake pedal,press and release the button twice.
Start: Starts the engine.
•Press the brake pedal, and then pressthe button for any length of time. Anindicator light on the button illuminateswhen then ignition is on and when theengine starts.
STARTING A GASOLINE
ENGINE
When you start the engine, the idle speedincreases. This helps to warm up theengine. If the engine idle speed does notslow down automatically, have yourvehicle checked by an authorized dealer.
Note: You can crank the engine for a totalof 60 seconds without the engine startingbefore the starting system temporarilydisables. The 60 seconds does not have tobe all at once. For example, if you crank theengine three times for 20 seconds eachtime, without the engine starting, youreached the 60-second time limit. Amessage appears in the information displayalerting you that you exceeded the crankingtime. You cannot attempt to start theengine for at least 15 minutes. After 15minutes, you are limited to a 15-secondengine cranking time. You need to wait 60minutes before you can crank the engine for60 seconds again.
Before starting your vehicle, check thefollowing:
•Make sure all occupants have fastenedtheir safety belts.
•Make sure the headlamps andelectrical accessories are off.
•Make sure the parking brake is on.
•Make sure the transmission is in park(P).
•Switch the ignition on. For vehicles witha keyless ignition, see the followinginstructions.
Vehicles with an Ignition Key
Note:Do not touch the accelerator pedal.
1. Fully depress the brake pedal.
2. Turn the key to the start position tostart the engine.
Note:The engine may continue crankingfor up to 15 seconds or until it starts.
Note:If you cannot start the engine on thefirst try, wait for a short period and try again.
Vehicles with Keyless Start
Note:Do not touch the accelerator pedal.

Second (2)
Transmission operates in second (2) gearonly. Use second (2) gear to start-up onslippery roads.
First (1)
•Transmission operates in first (1) gearonly.
•Provides maximum engine braking.
•Allows upshifts by moving gearshiftlever.
•Will not downshift into first (1) gear athigh speeds; allows for first (1) gearwhen vehicle reaches slower speeds.
Tow/Haul Mode
To activate tow/haul, press thebutton on the gearshift leveronce. The TOW HAUL indicatorlight will illuminate in the instrumentcluster.
The tow/haul feature:
•Delays upshifts to reduce the frequencyof transmission shifting.
•Provides engine braking in all forwardgears, which will slow your vehicle andassist you in controlling your vehiclewhen descending a grade.
•Depending on driving conditions andload conditions, may downshift thetransmission, slow your vehicle andcontrol your vehicle speed whendescending a hill, without pressing theaccelerator pedal. The amount ofdownshift braking provided will varybased upon the amount the brakepedal is pressed.
The tow/haul feature improvestransmission operation when towing atrailer or a heavy load. All transmissiongear ranges are available when usingtow/haul.
To deactivate the tow/haul feature andreturn to normal driving mode, press thebutton on the gearshift lever twice. TheTOW HAUL light will deactivate. Tow/haulwill also deactivate when you power downyour vehicle.
WARNING
Do not use the tow/haul featurewhen driving in icy or slipperyconditions as the increased enginebraking can cause the rear wheels to slideand your vehicle to swing around with thepossible loss of vehicle control.
Forced Downshifts
•Allowed in drive (D) with the tow/haulfeature on or off.
•Press the accelerator to the floor.
•Allows transmission to select anappropriate gear.
Automatic Transmission AdaptiveLearning
This feature may increase durability andprovide consistent shift feel over the lifeof your vehicle. A new vehicle ortransmission may have firm shifts, softshifts or both. This operation is considerednormal and will not affect function ordurability of the transmission. Over time,the adaptive learning process will fullyupdate transmission operation.
Understanding your SelectShiftAutomatic™ Transmission (If
Equipped)
Your vehicle is equipped with a SelectShiftAutomatic transmission gearshift lever.The SelectShift Automatic transmissiongives you the ability to change gears up ordown (without a clutch) as desired.

In order to prevent the engine from runningat too low an RPM, which may cause it tostall, SelectShift will still automaticallymake some downshifts if it has determinedthat you have not downshifted in time.Although SelectShift will make somedownshifts for you, it will still allow you todownshift at any time as long as theSelectShift determines that damage willnot be caused to the engine fromover-revving.
SelectShift will not automatically upshift,even if the engine is approaching the RPMlimit. It must be shifted manually bypressing the + button.
Note:Engine damage may occur if youmaintain excessive engine revving withoutshifting.
The SelectShift Automatic transmissionfeature has two modes: PRS and M mode.
Progressive Range Selection (PRS)
Progressive Range Selection gives you theability to lockout gears from the automaticshifting range. This may provide you withan improved driving experience (forexample, in slippery conditions or whenexperiencing a steep grade).
With the gearshift lever in drive (D), pressthe – button to active PRS. The availableand selected gears are indicated on theinstrument cluster.
All available gears will display with thecurrent gear indicated. Press the – buttonagain to lock out gears beginning with thehighest gear. Example: press the – buttontwice to lock out 6th and 5th gears. Onlythe available gears will display and thetransmission will automatically shiftbetween the available gears. Press the +button to unlock gears to allow thetransmission to shift to higher gears. Thetransmission will shift automatically withinthe gear range you select.
Manual (M)
Moving the gearshift lever to the manual(M) position will allow you to manuallyselect the gear you desire. Only the currentgear will display. Use the buttons on thegearshift lever to manually select gears.Press the + button to upshift or the –button to downshift. Return thetransmission to a different gearshiftposition to deactivate manual control.
Upshift to the recommended shift speedsaccording to the following chart:

USING FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE
WARNING
For important information regardingsafe operation of this type of vehicle,see General Information in theWheels and Tires chapter.
Note:Do not use 4H or 4L mode on dry,hard surfaced roads. Doing so will produceexcessive noise, increase tire wear and maydamage drive components. 4H and 4L modeis only intended for consistently slippery orloose surfaces.
Note:If 4L mode is selected while yourvehicle is moving above 3 mph (5 km/h),the 4WD system will not perform a shift.This is normal and should be no reason forconcern. Refer to Shifting to or from 4L forproper operation.
4WD Indicator Lights
The indicator lights illuminate in theinformation display in the reconfigurabletelltale (RTT) location under the followingconditions. See Warning Lamps andIndicators (page 88).
Note:When a 4X4 system fault is present,the system will typically remain in whichever4WD mode was selected prior to the faultcondition occurring. It will not default to 4X2in all circumstances. When this warning isdisplayed, have your vehicle serviced by anauthorized dealer.
4X2
Momentarily illuminates when2H is selected.
4X4 AUTO
Continuously illuminates when4A is selected.
4X4 HIGH
Continuously illuminates when4H is selected.
4X4 LOW
Continuously illuminates when4L is selected.
4WD Switch Positions
WARNING
Utility and four-wheel drive vehiclesare not designed for cornering atspeeds as high as passenger cars anymore than low-slung sports cars aredesigned to perform satisfactorily underoff-road conditions. Avoid sharp turns orabrupt maneuvers in these vehicles.
Note:If your vehicle is equipped withAdvanceTrac® with RSC®, the system willautomatically turn off the stabilityenhancement feature when you shift the4WD system into 4L (4X4 LOW). You canmanually turn the system off by pressingthe AdvanceTrac button. See UsingTraction Control (page 175). This willdisable the engine management feature,allowing the vehicle to maintain full powerand enhanced momentum through theobstacle. The brake traction enhancementfeature will still be enabled.
Note:The Control Trac® selector switchshould not be changed while the rear wheelsare slipping.
