Programming a Spare Intelligent Access Keys (if equipped)
Note:A maximum of four intelligent access keys can be programmed to
your vehicle. You must take your vehicle and all access keys to your
authorized dealer to be erased and reprogrammed if you would like to
replace a previously programmed access key with a new access key, or if
you already have four access keys programmed to your vehicle.
You must have two previously programmed intelligent access keys inside
the vehicle and the new unprogrammed intelligent access keys readily
accessible. See your authorized dealer to have the spare key programmed
if two previously programmed keys are not available.
Make sure that the vehicle is off before beginning this procedure. Make
sure that all doors are closed before beginning and that they remain
closed throughout the procedure. Perform all steps within 30 seconds of
starting the sequence. Stop and wait for at least one minute before
starting again if any steps are performed out of sequence.
Read and understand the entire procedure before you begin.
1. Place the new unprogrammed
intelligent access key, with the
buttons facing out, in the pocket
inside of the center console.
2. Press the driver or passenger
power door unlock control three
times.
3. Press and release the brake pedal
one time.
4. Press the driver or passenger power door lock control three times.
5. Press and release the brake pedal one time. The indicator on the
START/STOP button should begin to rapidly flash, indicating the
programming mode has been entered and two programmed intelligent
access keys have been detected in the vehicle.
6. Press the START/STOP button within one minute. A message will
appear in the information display indicating that the new intelligent
access key was programmed.
7. Remove the intelligent access key from the center console pocket and
press the unlock button on the newly programmed intelligent access key
to exit programming mode.
8. Verify that the remote entry functions operate (press lock then unlock,
making sure you end in unlock) and that the vehicle starts with new
intelligent access key.

WARNING:Store the portable music player in a secure location,
such as the center console or the glove box, when the vehicle is
in motion. Hard objects may become projectiles in a collision or sudden
stop, which may increase the risk of serious injury. The audio extension
cable must be long enough to allow the portable music player to be
safely stored while the vehicle is in motion.
The auxiliary input jack (AIJ) allows
you to connect and play music from
your portable music player through
the vehicle speakers. You can use
any portable music player designed
for use with headphones. Your audio
extension cable must have male
1/8 in. (3.5 mm) connectors at each
end.
1. Make sure the vehicle, radio and portable music player are turned off
and the vehicle is in P (Park).
2. Plug the extension cable from the portable music player into the AIJ.
3. Turn on the radio. Select either a tuned FM station or a CD.
4. Adjust the volume as desired.
5. Turn on your portable music player and adjust its volume to 1/2.
6. Press AUX until LINE or LINE IN appears in the display. You should
hear music from your device even if it is low.
7. Adjust the volume on your portable music player until it reaches the
volume level of the FM station or CD. Do this by switching back and
forth between the AUX and FM or CD controls.

USB PORT
WARNING:Driving while distracted can result in loss of vehicle
control, accident and injury. Ford strongly recommends that you
use extreme caution when using any device or feature that may take
your focus off the road. Your primary responsibility is the safe operation
of the vehicle. We recommend against the use of any handheld device
while driving, encourage the use of voice-operated systems when
possible and that you become aware of applicable state and local laws
that may affect use of electronic devices while driving.
The USB port is located in the center console. It allows you to plug in
media playing devices, memory sticks and charge devices (if supported).

MEDIA HUB
The media hub is located in the center console and has the following
features:
A. A/V inputs
B. SD card slot

AUXILIARY POWER POINTS
WARNING:Do not plug optional electrical accessories into the
cigarette lighter socket (if equipped). Improper use of the lighter
can cause damage not covered by your warranty, and can result in fire
or serious injury.
Note:Do not insert objects other than an accessory plug into the power
point. This will damage the outlet and blow the fuse.
Note:Do not hang any type of accessory or accessory bracket from the
plug.
Note:Do not use the power point over the vehicle capacity of 12 volts
DC/180 watts or a fuse may blow.
Note:Do not use the power point for operating a cigarette lighter
element.
Note:Improper use of the power outlet can cause damage not covered
by your warranty.
Note:Always keep the power point caps closed when not being used.
Run the engine for full capacity use of the power point . To prevent the
battery from being discharged:
•Do not use the power point longer than necessary when the engine is
not running.
•Do not leave devices plugged in overnight or when the vehicle is
parked for extended periods.
Locations
Power points may be found:
•on the front of the center console
•inside the utility compartment
•on the rear of the console, accessible from the rear seats
•in the cargo area.

Power Point (110V AC) (if equipped)
WARNING:Do not keep electrical devices plugged in the
powerpoint whenever the device is not in use. Do not use any
extension cord with the 110V AC power point, since it will defeat the
safety protection design provided by the cap and twist tab. Doing so my
cause the powerpoint to overload due to powering multiple devices that
can reach beyond the 150W load limit and could result in fire or serious
injury.
Note:The cap should always be closed whenever the power point outlet
is not in use.
Note:The power point will turn off after 13 minutes if the ignition is on
without the engine running. Keep the engine running or cycle the
ignition to keep the power point on.
The 110V AC power point outlet is used for powering electrical devices
that require up to 150W. Exceeding the 150W limit will cause the power
point to cut off the power temporarily to provide overload protection.
The power point is located on the
back of the center console.
The power point is not designed for the following electric appliances;
they may not work properly:
•Cathode ray tube type televisions
•Motor loads, such as vacuum cleaners, electric saws and other electric
power tools, compressor-driven refrigerators, etc.
•Measuring devices, which process precise data, such as medical
equipment, measuring equipment, etc.
•Other appliances requiring an extremely stable power supply:
microcomputer-controlled electric blankets, touch sensor lamps, etc.

CENTER CONSOLE
WARNING:Use only soft cups in the cupholder. Hard objects
can injure you in a collision.
Your vehicle may be equipped with a variety of console features. These
include:
A. Cupholders

3. Press the start button. The engine may continue cranking for up to
10 seconds or until the vehicle starts.
To turn the ignition off, press the start button when the vehicle is on or
the engine is running.
The passive starting system will not function if:
•the passive key frequencies are jammed.
•the passive key battery is dead.
If you are unable to start your vehicle, do the following.
1. Locate the key backup slot at the front of the center console storage
compartment.
2. Insert the passive key into the
key holder.
3. With the passive key in this
position, you can use the start
button to switch the ignition on and
start your vehicle.
To stop the engine with the vehicle stationary, do the following:
1. Move the gearshift lever to P (Park).
2. Press the start button.
Note:The ignition, all electrical circuits, warning lamps and indicators
will be switched off.
To stop the engine when the vehicle is moving, do the following:
1. Press and hold the start button for at least one second or press the
start button three times within two seconds.
2. Shift to neutral and use the brakes to bring the vehicle to a safe stop.
3. After the vehicle has stopped, turn the engine off and shift into park.
WARNING:Switching off the engine when the vehicle is still
moving will result in a loss of brake and steering assistance. The
steering will not be locked, but higher effort will be required. When the
ignition is switched off, some electrical circuits, warning lights and
indicators may also be off.

PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
WARNING:Vehicle modifications involving braking system,
aftermarket roof racks, suspension, steering system, tire
construction and/or wheel/tire size may change the handling
characteristics of the vehicle and may adversely affect the performance
of the AdvanceTracsystem. In addition, installing any stereo
loudspeakers may interfere with and adversely affect the AdvanceTrac
system. Install any aftermarket stereo loudspeaker as far as possible
from the front center console, the tunnel, and the front seats in order
to minimize the risk of interfering with the AdvanceTracsensors.
Reducing the effectiveness of the AdvanceTracsystem could lead to
an increased risk of loss of vehicle control, vehicle rollover, personal
injury and death.
WARNING:Remember that even advanced technology cannot
defy the laws of physics. It’s always possible to lose control of a
vehicle due to inappropriate driver input for the conditions. Aggressive
driving on any road condition can cause you to lose control of your
vehicle increasing the risk of personal injury or property damage.
Activation of the AdvanceTracsystem is an indication that at least
some of the tires have exceeded their ability to grip the road; this could
reduce the operator’s ability to control the vehicle potentially resulting
in a loss of vehicle control, vehicle rollover, personal injury and death. If
your AdvanceTracsystem activates, SLOW DOWN.
The AdvanceTracwith Roll Stability Control™ (RSC) system helps you
keep control of your vehicle when on a slippery surface. The electronic
stability control (ESC) portion of the system helps avoid skids and lateral
slides, curve control assists in vehicle handling in following the road
during adverse maneuvering and roll stability control helps avoid a
vehicle rollover. The traction control system (TCS) helps avoid drive
wheel spin and loss of traction. (For details on TCS operation, see the
Traction Controlchapter.)

TERRAIN MANAGEMENT (IF EQUIPPED)
This system optimizes drivability and comfort as well as maximizing
traction while operating on different types of terrain.
Turn the control located on the center console to choose between the
following modes:
1.Grass/Gravel/Snowmode should be selected where a firm surface is
covered with loose or slippery material such as packed snow, ice, water,
grass, or a thin layer of gravel or sand. For deep gravel or sand, select
Sand mode. If the vehicle cannot gain traction in deep snow, turning off
the traction control system may help (turn traction control back on when
traction is regained). See theTraction Controlchapter.
2.Sandmode should be selected in soft dry sand or deep gravel. If
crossing wet sand that may be sufficiently deep enough for the wheels to
sink into the surface, select Mud/Ruts mode.
3.Mud/Rutsmode should be selected for muddy, rutted, soft, or uneven
terrain.
4.Normalmode is for on-road conditions and should be selected before
driving on surfaces which are similar to a hard road surface or once the
need for a special mode has passed. Select Normal mode when towing a
trailer.
Note:Cruise control is available only in Normal and Snow modes.
Note:The Sand and Mud/Ruts modes are for off-road use only.
Note:The curve control portion of the AdvanceTracsystem is
unavailable when Sand or Mud/Ruts is selected.
