PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
MyKey allows you to program keys withrestricted driving modes to promote gooddriving habits. You can program therestrictions to all keys but one. Any keysthat you did not program are administratorkeys or admin keys.
You can use admin keys to:
•Create a MyKey with certain vehiclerestrictions.
•Program certain MyKey settings.
•Clear all MyKey restrictions.
After you program a MyKey, you can viewthe following information through theinformation display:
•The total number of admin keys andMyKeys for your vehicle.
•The total distance a MyKey drivertraveled with your vehicle.
Note: Every MyKey receives the samerestrictions and settings. You cannotprogram them individually.
Note: For vehicles equipped with apush-button start switch: When both aMyKey and an admin key are present whenyou start your vehicle, the system recognizesthe admin key only.
Standard Settings
Not every vehicle includes the featureslisted below. If your vehicle has thisequipment, then you cannot change thefollowing settings when using a MyKey:
•Seatbelt reminder or Belt-Minder™.MyKey mutes the audio system untildrivers, and in some instances,passengers, fasten their seatbelts.
•Earlier low-fuel warning. The low-fuelwarning activates earlier for MyKeydrivers, giving them more time to refuel.
•Certain driver alerts, stability systemsor parking aids turn on automaticallywhen you use the MyKey system. Forexample, Blind Spot InformationSystem (BLIS), cross traffic alert, lanedeparture warning or forward collisionwarning.
•Restricted touchscreen operation insome markets. For example, MyKeymay prevent manual navigationdestination input while the vehicle is inany gear other than park (P) or whenthe vehicle reaches a certain rate ofspeed.
•Satellite radio adult contentrestrictions, if this feature is availablein your market.
Note:MyKey drivers may be able to switchthe lane departure warning feature off, butthis feature turns back on automaticallywith every new key cycle.
Note:MyKey drivers can turn on the forwardcollision warning when it is turned off by anadmin key.
Note:If your vehicle includes an AM/FMradio or a very basic audio system, then theradio may not mute.
Optional Settings
You can configure certain vehicle featuresettings when you first create a MyKey. Youcan also change the settings afterwardwith an admin key.
Note:Not every feature applies to everyvehicle in every market. When they areavailable for your vehicle, then they appearin your information display, providingchoices to switch them on or off, or to selecta more specific setting.

MyKey™

•Various vehicle speed limits so theMyKey driver cannot exceed certainspeeds. The information display showswarnings followed by an audible tonewhen the MyKey driver reaches the setspeed. You cannot override the setspeed by fully depressing theaccelerator pedal.
WARNING
Do not set MyKey maximum speedlimit to a limit that will prevent thedriver from maintaining a safe speedconsidering posted speed limits andprevailing road conditions. The driver isalways responsible to drive in accordancewith local laws and prevailing conditions.Failure to do so could result in accident orinjury.
•Various vehicle speed reminders soMyKey drivers know when their vehiclespeed approaches the limits. Warningsappear in your information display anda tone sounds when the MyKey driversexceed the set vehicle speed.
•The audio system's maximum volumelimits to 45% so MyKey drivers canconcentrate on the road. A messageappears in the information displaywhen MyKey drivers attempt to exceedthe limited volume. MyKey alsodisables the automatic volume control.
•Always on setting. This setting forcescertain features to remain on andactive for MyKey drivers. For example,E911 or emergency assistance and thedo not disturb features stay on even ifa MyKey driver uses the feature'scontrol to switch it off.
Note:If your vehicle includes an AM/FMradio or a very basic audio system, then theradio may not mute.
CREATING A MYKEY
Use the information display to create aMyKey.
1. Switch the ignition on using the key orthe transmitter you want to program.
2. Access the main menu in theinformation display and then scrollthrough the menus to beginprogramming your MyKey. SeeInformation Displays (page 111).
3. Follow the instructions in the display.
4.A confirmation message appears in thedisplay after you finish programmingyour MyKey. The programmedrestrictions apply when you key off,open and close driver door and restartyour vehicle with the programmed keyor transmitter.
Note:Make sure you label the programmedMyKey so you can distinguish it from theadmin keys.
You can also program the optional MyKeysettings.
Programming or ChangingConfigurable Settings
Use the information display to program orchange your optional MyKey settings.
1. Switch the ignition on using the key orthe transmitter you want to program.
2. Access the main menu in theinformation display and then scrollthrough the menus to change thesettings of your MyKey. SeeInformation Displays (page 111).
3. Follow the instructions in the display.
4.A confirmation message appears in thedisplay after you finish programmingyour MyKey. The programmedrestrictions apply when you restart yourvehicle with the programmed key ortransmitter.

Use the control on the side of the steeringcolumn to adjust the position.
To adjust:
•Tilt: press the top or bottom of thecontrol
•Telescope: press the front or rear of thecontrol.
Memory Feature
You can save and recall the steeringcolumn position with the memory function.See Memory Function (page 157).
Pressing the adjustment control duringmemory recall cancels the operation. Thecolumn responds to the adjustmentcontrol.
Easy Entry and Exit Feature
The column moves to the full up and inposition when you switch the ignition off.It returns to the previous setting when youswitch the ignition on. You can enable ordisable this feature in the informationdisplay.

Information Displays

GENERAL INFORMATION
Note:Occasional brake noise is normal. Ifa metal-to-metal, continuous grinding orcontinuous squeal sound is present, thebrake linings may be worn-out. Have thesystem checked by an authorized dealer. Ifyour vehicle has continuous vibration orshudder in the steering wheel while braking,have it checked by an authorized dealer.
Note:Brake dust may accumulate on thewheels, even under normal drivingconditions. Some dust is inevitable as thebrakes wear and does not contribute tobrake noise. See Cleaning the Wheels(page 370).
See Warning Lamps andIndicators (page 105).
Wet brakes result in reduced brakingefficiency. Gently press the brake pedal afew times when driving from a car wash orstanding water to dry the brakes.
Brake Over Accelerator
In the event the accelerator pedalbecomes stuck or entrapped, apply steadyand firm pressure to the brake pedal toslow the vehicle and reduce engine power.If you experience this condition, apply thebrakes and bring your vehicle to a safestop. Move the transmission to park (P),switch the engine off and apply the parkingbrake. Inspect the accelerator pedal forany interference. If none are found and thecondition persists, have your vehicle towedto the nearest authorized dealer.
Brake Assist
Brake assist detects when you brakerapidly by measuring the rate at which youpress the brake pedal. It providesmaximum braking efficiency as long as youpress the pedal, and can reduce stoppingdistances in critical situations.
Anti-lock Brake System
This system helps you maintain steeringcontrol during emergency stops by keepingthe brakes from locking.
This lamp momentarilyilluminates when you switch theignition on. If the light does notilluminate during start up, remains on orflashes, the system may be disabled. Havethe system checked by an authorizeddealer. If the anti-lock brake system isdisabled, normal braking is still effective.
If the brake warning lampremains illuminated after yourelease the parking brake, havethe system checked by an authorizeddealer.
Diesel Engine Braking (If Equipped)
WARNING
Do not use tow/haul or enginebraking when driving in icy or slipperyconditions as the increased brakingcan cause the rear wheels to slide and yourvehicle to swing around with the possibleloss of vehicle control.
This feature increases engine braking athigher engine speeds to provide bettergrade descent control with less brake andtransmission wear and tear. It alsoimproves engine braking when towing orcarrying heavy loads.
Press the button on the switchbank next to the audio unit toswitch the system on or off.
There are two engine brake modes, manualand automatic.
Manual Engine Braking
1. Press the button to switch on manualengine braking.

stationary or receding object farther than12 in (30 cm) from the corners of thebumper, the tone sounds for only threeseconds. Once the system detects anobject approaching, the warning soundsagain.
Coverage area of up to 6 ft (1.8 m) fromthe rear bumper. There may be decreasedcoverage area at the outer corners of thebumper.
The system detects certain objects whilethe transmission is in reverse (R) :
•Your vehicle is moving toward astationary object at a speed of 3 mph(5 km/h) or less.
•Your vehicle is not moving, but amoving object is approaching the rearof your vehicle at a speed of 3 mph(5 km/h) or less.
•Your vehicle is moving at a speed ofless than 3 mph (5 km/h) and a movingobject is approaching the rear of yourvehicle at a speed of less than 3 mph(5 km/h).
The system provides audio warnings onlywhen your vehicle is moving or when yourvehicle is stationary and the detectedobstacle is less than 12 in (30 cm) awayfrom the bumper.
Obstacle Distance Indicator (If
Equipped)
The system provides obstacle distanceindication through the display screen. SeeRear View Camera (page 232).
REAR VIEW CAMERA (If Equipped)
WARNINGS
The rear view camera system is areverse aid supplement device thatstill requires the driver to use it inconjunction with the interior and exteriormirrors for maximum coverage.
Objects that are close to eithercorner of the bumper or under thebumper, might not be seen on thescreen due to the limited coverage of thecamera system.
Reverse your vehicle as slow aspossible, higher speeds may limityour reaction time to stop yourvehicle.
Use caution when the tailgate is ajar.If the tailgate is ajar, the camera willbe out of position and the videoimage may be incorrect. All guidelinesdisappear when the tailgate is ajar. Somevehicles may not come equipped withguidelines.
Use caution when turning camerafeatures on or off when thetransmission is not in park (P). Makesure your vehicle is not moving.
The rear view camera system displayswhat is behind your vehicle when you shiftthe transmission into reverse (R).
During operation, lines appear in thedisplay that represents the path of yourvehicle and proximity to objects behind it.

COLLISION WARNING SYSTEM

WARNINGS
This system is an extra driving aid. Itdoes not replace your attention andjudgment, or the need to apply thebrakes. This system does NOTautomatically brake your vehicle. If you failto press the brake pedal when necessary,you may collide with another vehicle.
The collision warning system withbrake support cannot help preventall collisions. Do not rely on thissystem to replace your judgment and theneed to maintain correct distance andspeed.
Note:The system does not detect, warn orrespond to potential collisions with vehiclesto the rear or sides of your vehicle.
Note:The collision warning system is activeat speeds above approximately 5 mph(8 km/h).
Note:The collision warning system will beunavailable if you disable the electronicstability control. See Using StabilityControl (page 227).
The system alerts you of certain collisionrisks. The system's sensor detects yourvehicle's rapid approach to other vehiclestraveling in the same direction as yourvehicle.
When your vehicle rapidly approachesanother vehicle, a red warning light flashesand a tone sounds.
The brake support system assists you inreducing any collision speed bypre-charging the brakes. If the risk ofcollision continues to increases after theaudio-visual warning, the brake supportprepares the brake system for rapidbraking. The system does notautomatically activate the brakes, but ifthe brake pedal is pressed even lightly, thebrakes apply full stopping power.
Using the Collision Warning System
WARNING
The collision warning system’s brakesupport reduces collision speed onlyif you brake your vehicle before anycollision. As in any typical braking situation,you must press your brake pedal.
You can use your information displaycontrol to adjust the collision warningsystem's sensitivity or to turn the systemOn or Off. Your vehicle will rememberthese settings across key cycles. You maychange the collision warning systemsensitivity to any one of three possiblesettings. See General Information (page111).

WARNINGS
This vehicle may be fitted with morethan one battery. Removing thebattery cables from only one batterydoes not disconnect your vehicle electricalsystem. Make sure you disconnect thebattery cables from all batteries whendisconnecting power. Failure to do so maycause serious personal injury or propertydamage.
Your vehicle is fitted with a Motorcraftmaintenance-free battery which normallydoes not require additional water.
When a battery replacement is required,you must use a recommendedreplacement battery that matches theelectrical requirements of the vehicle.
Note:After cleaning or replacing thebattery, make sure you reinstall the batterycover or shield.
Note:If you add electrical accessories orcomponents to the vehicle, it may adverselyaffect the low voltage battery performanceand durability. This may also affect theperformance of other electrical systems inthe vehicle.
For longer, trouble-free operation, keep thetop of the battery clean and dry.
If you see any corrosion on the battery orterminals, remove the cables from theterminals and clean with a wire brush. Youcan neutralize the acid with a solution ofbaking soda and water.
Because your vehicle’s engine iselectronically controlled by a computer,some control conditions are maintainedby power from the battery. When thebattery is disconnected or a new batteryis installed, the engine must relearn its idleand fuel trim strategy for optimumdriveability and performance. Flexible fuelvehicles (FFV) must also relearn theethanol content of the fuel for optimumdriveability and performance.
To restore the settings, do the following:
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Shift into park (P) or neutral (N).
3. Switch off all accessories.
4. Press the brake pedal and start yourvehicle.
5. Run the engine until it reaches normaloperating temperature. While theengine is warming up, complete thefollowing: Reset the clock. See AudioSystem (page 441). Reset the powerwindows bounce-back feature. SeeWindows and Mirrors (page 95).Reset the radio station presets. SeeAudio System (page 441).
6.Allow the engine to idle for at least oneminute.
7.Drive the vehicle at least 10 mi (16 km)to completely relearn the idle trim andfuel trim strategy.
Note:If you do not allow the engine torelearn the idle and fuel trim strategy, theidle quality of your vehicle may be adverselyaffected until the engine computereventually relearns the idle trim and fueltrim strategy.
Note:For flexible fuel vehicles, if you areoperating on E85, you may experience poorstarts or an inability to start the engine anddriveability problems until the fuel trim andethanol content have been relearned.
