Note:You can shift the transmission tolower gears with progressive range selection(PRS) or manual shifting independent ofpressing the brakes.
Note:You can also use manual enginebraking with cruise control to improve gradedescent control.
Automatic Engine Braking
1. Press the button twice to switch onautomatic engine braking.
2.Release the accelerator or brake pedal.The system remembers your vehiclespeed.
Note:The system automatically activatesthe engine brake and, if necessary,downshifts the transmission to lower gearsto not exceed your vehicle's set speed whenthe brake or accelerator were last released.
Note:Use this when driving downhill andcarrying heavy loads or trailering.
Warning Lamp Conditions
•Illuminates when this feature isswitched on and the system isoperating properly. See WarningLamps and Indicators (page 105).
•Flashes when the engine brake isdisabled due to a fault or the enginedoes not meet the required brakingconditions.
•Does not illuminate when the switchor indicator is faulty.
You can switch the system on at anytime.The system becomes active once thebraking conditions are met.
Braking Conditions
•Your vehicle is in a forward gear.
•The engine speed is above about 1500RPM.
•Your foot is off the accelerator.
You can use this feature with tow/haul orprogressive range selection to providefurther increased engine braking. Thetransmission automatically upshifts toprevent the engine from entering the redzone on the tachometer. See AutomaticTransmission (page 205).
HINTS ON DRIVING WITH
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES
Note:When the system is operating, thebrake pedal may pulse and may travelfurther. Maintain pressure on the brakepedal. You may also hear a noise from thesystem. This is normal.
The anti-lock braking system will noteliminate the risks when:
•You drive too closely to the vehicle infront of you.
•Your vehicle is hydroplaning.
•You take corners too fast.
•The road surface is poor.
PARKING BRAKE
WARNING
Always set the parking brake fullyand make sure the transmission isplaced in park (P). Failure to set theparking brake and engage park could resultin vehicle roll-away, property damage orbodily injury. Turn the ignition to the lockposition and remove the key whenever youleave your vehicle.

Apply the parking brake whenever yourvehicle is parked. Press the pedaldownward to set the parking brake. Thebrake warning lamp in the instrumentcluster will illuminate and remainsilluminated until the parking brake isreleased.
To release, pull the brake release leverlocated at the lower left side of theinstrument panel.
If you are parking your vehicle on a gradeor with a trailer, press and hold the brakepedal down, then set the parking brake.There may be a little vehicle movement asthe parking brake sets to hold the vehicle'sweight. This is normal and should be noreason for concern. If needed, press andhold the service brake pedal down, thentry reapplying the parking brake. Chock thewheels if required. If the parking brakecannot hold the weight of the vehicle, theparking brake may need to be serviced orthe vehicle may be overloaded.
HILL START ASSIST
WARNINGS
The system does not replace theparking brake. When you leave yourvehicle, always apply the parkingbrake and shift the transmission into park(P) (automatic transmission) or first gear(1) (manual transmission).
You must remain in your vehicle onceyou have activated the system.
During all times, you are responsiblefor controlling your vehicle,supervising the system andintervening, if required.
If the engine is revved excessively, orif a malfunction is detected, thesystem will be deactivated.
The system makes it easier to pull awaywhen your vehicle is on a slope without theneed to use the parking brake.
When the system is active, your vehicle willremain stationary on the slope for two tothree seconds after you release the brakepedal. This allows you time to move yourfoot from the brake to the acceleratorpedal. The brakes release automaticallywhen the engine has sufficient torque toprevent your vehicle from rolling down thegrade. This is an advantage when pullingaway on a slope, for example from a carpark ramp, traffic lights or when reversinguphill into a parking space.
The system will activate automatically onany slope that will cause significant vehiclerollback. For vehicles with a manualtransmission, you can switch this featureoff using the information display. SeeInformation Displays (page 111). Thesystem will remain on or off depending onhow it was last set.
Note:There is no warning lamp to indicatethe system is either on or off.
Note:If your vehicle is equipped with AutoHold, Hill Start Assist will not be availablewhile Auto Hold is active.
Using Hill Start Assist
1. Bring your vehicle to a completestandstill. Keep the brake pedalpressed and select an uphill gear (forexample, first (1) when facing uphill orreverse (R) when facing downhill).
2. If the sensors detect that your vehicleis on a slope, the system will activateautomatically.
3. When you remove your foot from thebrake pedal, your vehicle will remainon the slope without rolling away forabout two or three seconds. This holdtime will automatically be extended ifyou are in the process of driving off.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The traction control system helps avoiddrive wheel spin and loss of traction.
If your vehicle begins to slide, the systemapplies the brakes to individual wheelsand, when needed, reduces engine powerat the same time. If the wheels spin whenaccelerating on slippery or loose surfaces,the system reduces engine power in orderto increase traction.
USING TRACTION CONTROL
WARNING
The stability and traction controllight illuminates steadily if thesystem detects a failure. Make sureyou did not manually disable the tractioncontrol system using the informationdisplay controls or the switch. If thestability control and traction control lightis still illuminating steadily, have thesystem serviced by an authorized dealerimmediately. Operating your vehicle withthe traction control disabled could lead toan increased risk of loss of vehicle control,vehicle rollover, personal injury and death.
The system automatically turns on eachtime you switch the ignition on.
If your vehicle is stuck in mud or snow,switching traction control off may bebeneficial as this allows the wheels to spin.
Note:When you switch traction control off,stability control remains fully active.

Switching the System Off
When you switch the system off or on, amessage appears in the informationdisplay showing system status.
Use the traction and stability controlswitch on the instrument panel to switchthe system off or on.
The switch illuminates when tractioncontrol is off.
When you place your vehicle intofour-wheel drive low mode the tractioncontrol disables. Traction control resumesfull operation when you put your vehicleback into two-wheel drive mode.
System Indicator Lights andMessages
The stability and traction controllight:
•Temporarily illuminates on enginestart-up.
•Flashes when a driving conditionactivates either of the systems.
•Illuminates if a problem occurs in eitherof the systems.
The stability and traction controloff light temporarily illuminateson engine start-up and stays onwhen you switch the traction controlsystem off.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
WARNINGS
Vehicle modifications involvingbraking system, aftermarket roofracks, suspension, steering system,tire construction and wheel and tire sizemay change the handling characteristicsof your vehicle and may adversely affectthe performance of the electronic stabilitycontrol system. In addition, installing anystereo loudspeakers may interfere withand adversely affect the electronic stabilitycontrol system. Install any aftermarketstereo loudspeaker as far as possible fromthe front center console, the tunnel, andthe front seats in order to minimize the riskof interfering with the electronic stabilitycontrol sensors. Reducing theeffectiveness of the electronic stabilitycontrol system could lead to an increasedrisk of loss of vehicle control, vehiclerollover, personal injury and death.
Remember that even advancedtechnology cannot defy the laws ofphysics. It’s always possible to losecontrol of a vehicle due to inappropriatedriver input for the conditions. Aggressivedriving on any road condition can causeyou to lose control of your vehicleincreasing the risk of personal injury orproperty damage. Activation of theelectronic stability control system is anindication that at least some of the tireshave exceeded their ability to grip the road;this could reduce the operator’s ability tocontrol the vehicle potentially resulting ina loss of vehicle control, vehicle rollover,personal injury and death. If your electronicstability control system activates, SLOWDOWN.
The system automatically turns on eachtime you switch the ignition on.
If a fault occurs in either the stabilitycontrol or the traction control system, youmay experience the following conditions:
•The stability and traction control lightilluminates steadily.
•The stability control and tractioncontrol systems do not enhance yourvehicle's ability to maintain traction ofthe wheels.
•The Adaptive Steering system (ifequipped) automatically changes thesteering function to a fixed steeringratio. See Steering (page 256).
If a driving condition activates either thestability control or the traction controlsystem you may experience the followingconditions:
•The stability and traction control lightflashes.
•Your vehicle slows down.
•Reduced engine power.
•A vibration in the brake pedal.
•The brake pedal is stiffer than usual.
•If the driving condition is severe andyour foot is not on the brake, the brakepedal may move as the system applieshigher brake force.
The stability control system has severalfeatures built into it to help you maintaincontrol of your vehicle:
Electronic Stability Control
The system enhances your vehicle’s abilityto prevent skids or lateral slides byapplying brakes to one or more of thewheels individually and, if necessary,reducing engine power.

WARNINGS
Hill descent control cannot controldescent in all surface conditions andcircumstances, such as ice orextremely steep grades. Hill descentcontrol is a driver assist system and cannotsubstitute for good judgment by the driver.Failure to do so may result in loss of vehiclecontrol, crash or serious injury.
Hill descent control does not providehill hold at zero miles per hour (0kilometers per hour). When stopped,the parking brake must be applied or thevehicle must be placed in P (Park) or itmay roll away.
Hill descent control allows the driver to setand maintain vehicle speed whiledescending steep grades in various surfaceconditions.
Hill descent control can maintain vehiclespeeds on downhill grades between 2 mph(3 km/h) and 12 mph (20 km/h). Above 20mph (32 km/h), the system remainsarmed, but descent speed cannot be setor maintained.
Hill descent control requires a coolingdown interval after a period of sustaineduse. The amount of time that the featurecan remain active before cooling varieswith conditions. The system will provide awarning in the message center and a chimewill sound when the system is about todisengage for cooling. At this time,manually apply the brakes as needed tomaintain descent speed.
USING HILL DESCENT
CONTROL
Press and release the hilldescent button located on theinstrument panel. A light in thecluster will illuminate and a chime willsound when this feature is activated.
To increase descent speed, press theaccelerator pedal until the desired speedis reached. To decrease descent speed,press the brake pedal until the desiredspeed is reached.
Whether accelerating or decelerating, oncethe desired descent speed is reached,remove your feet from the pedals and thechosen vehicle speed will be maintained.
Note:Noise from the ABS pump motor maybe observed during hill descent controloperation. This is a normal characteristic ofthe ABS and should be no reason forconcern.
Hill descent modes
•At speeds below 20 mph (32 km/h):When the Hill Descent Control switchis pressed and Hill Descent Control isactive, the Hill Descent Control telltalewill flash.
•At speeds below 20 mph (32 km/h):When the Hill Descent Control switchis pressed and conditions are notcorrect for hill descent activation, theHill Descent Control system will beenabled, the Hill Descent Controltelltale will be solid and a message willdisplay in the information display.
•At speeds above 20 mph (32 km/h):When the Hill Descent Control switchis pressed, the Hill Descent Controlsystem will be enabled, the telltale inthe cluster will not be illuminated anda message will be displayed in theinformation display.

WARNINGS
To help avoid personal injury, pleaseread and understand the limitationsof the system as contained in thissection. Sensing is only an aid for some(generally large and fixed) objects whenmoving on a flat surface at parking speeds.Certain objects with surfaces that absorbultrasonic waves, surrounding vehicle'sparking aid systems, traffic controlsystems, fluorescent lamps, inclementweather, air brakes, and external motorsand fans may also affect the function ofthe sensing system. This may includereduced performance or a false activation.
To help avoid personal injury, alwaysuse caution when in reverse (R) andwhen using the sensing system.
This system is not designed toprevent contact with small or movingobjects. The system is designed toprovide a warning to assist the driver indetecting large stationary objects to avoiddamaging your vehicle. The system maynot detect smaller objects, particularlythose close to the ground.
Certain add-on devices such as largetrailer hitches, bike or surfboard racksand any device that may block thenormal detection zone of the system, maycreate false beeps.
Note:Keep the sensors, located on thebumper or fascia, free from snow, ice andlarge accumulations of dirt. If the sensorsare covered, the system’s accuracy can beaffected. Do not clean the sensors withsharp objects.
Note:If your vehicle sustains damage tothe bumper or fascia, leaving it misalignedor bent, the sensing zone may be alteredcausing inaccurate measurement ofobstacles or false alarms.
Note:The sensing system cannot be turnedoff when a MyKey is present. See Principleof Operation (page 61).
Note:If your vehicle is equipped with atrailer tow package and a trailer isconnected to your vehicle, the rear sensingsystem disables and you cannot switch thesystem on through the information display.
The sensing system warns the driver ofobstacles within a certain range of yourvehicle. The system turns on automaticallywhenever you switch the ignition on.
When receiving a detection warning, theradio volume reduces to a predeterminedlevel. After the warning goes away, theradio volume returns to the previous level.
You can turn the system on oroff by pressing the parking aidbutton. If your vehicle does nothave a parking aid button, the system canbe switched off through the informationdisplay menu or from the pop-up messagethat appears once you shift thetransmission into reverse (R). See GeneralInformation (page 111).
If a fault is present in the system, a warningmessage appears in the informationdisplay and you cannot switch the systemon through the pop-up message. SeeInformation Messages (page 128).
REAR PARKING AID
The rear sensors are only active when thetransmission is in reverse (R). As yourvehicle moves closer to the obstacle, therate of the audible warning increases.When the obstacle is less than 12 in(30 cm) away, the warning soundscontinuously. If the system detects a

stationary or receding object farther than12 in (30 cm) from the corners of thebumper, the tone sounds for only threeseconds. Once the system detects anobject approaching, the warning soundsagain.
Coverage area of up to 6 ft (1.8 m) fromthe rear bumper. There may be decreasedcoverage area at the outer corners of thebumper.
The system detects certain objects whilethe transmission is in reverse (R) :
•Your vehicle is moving toward astationary object at a speed of 3 mph(5 km/h) or less.
•Your vehicle is not moving, but amoving object is approaching the rearof your vehicle at a speed of 3 mph(5 km/h) or less.
•Your vehicle is moving at a speed ofless than 3 mph (5 km/h) and a movingobject is approaching the rear of yourvehicle at a speed of less than 3 mph(5 km/h).
The system provides audio warnings onlywhen your vehicle is moving or when yourvehicle is stationary and the detectedobstacle is less than 12 in (30 cm) awayfrom the bumper.
Obstacle Distance Indicator (If
Equipped)
The system provides obstacle distanceindication through the display screen. SeeRear View Camera (page 232).
REAR VIEW CAMERA (If Equipped)
WARNINGS
The rear view camera system is areverse aid supplement device thatstill requires the driver to use it inconjunction with the interior and exteriormirrors for maximum coverage.
Objects that are close to eithercorner of the bumper or under thebumper, might not be seen on thescreen due to the limited coverage of thecamera system.
Reverse your vehicle as slow aspossible, higher speeds may limityour reaction time to stop yourvehicle.
Use caution when the tailgate is ajar.If the tailgate is ajar, the camera willbe out of position and the videoimage may be incorrect. All guidelinesdisappear when the tailgate is ajar. Somevehicles may not come equipped withguidelines.
Use caution when turning camerafeatures on or off when thetransmission is not in park (P). Makesure your vehicle is not moving.
The rear view camera system displayswhat is behind your vehicle when you shiftthe transmission into reverse (R).
During operation, lines appear in thedisplay that represents the path of yourvehicle and proximity to objects behind it.

When shifting the transmission out ofreverse (R) and into any gear other thanpark (P), the camera image remains in thedisplay until:
•Your vehicle speed sufficientlyincreases.
•You shift your vehicle into park (P).
•You apply the parking brake on vehicleswith a manual transmission.
360 DEGREE CAMERA (If Equipped)
WARNINGS
The 360 degree camera system stillrequires the driver to use it inconjunction with looking out of thewindows, and checking the interior andexterior mirrors for maximum coverage.
Objects that are close to eithercorner of the bumper or under thebumper, might not be seen on thescreen due to the limited coverage of thecamera system.
Use caution when turning camerafeatures on or off when thetransmission is not in park (P). Makesure your vehicle is not moving.
Note:The 360 degree camera system turnsoff when your vehicle is in motion at lowspeed, except when in reverse (R).
The 360 degree camera system consistsof front, side and rear cameras. Thesystem:
•Allows you to see what is directly infront or behind your vehicle.
•Provides cross traffic view in front andbehind your vehicle.
•Allows you to see a top-down view ofthe area outside your vehicle, includingthe blind spots.
•Provides visibility around your vehicleto you in parking maneuvers such as:
•Centering in a parking space.
•Obstacles near vehicle.
•Parallel parking.
Camera Views
The camera button is located onthe instrument panel and allowsyou to toggle through differentcamera views.
When in park (P), neutral (N) or drive (D),only images from the front cameras aredisplayed. Press the camera button todisplay the front camera image on thedisplay screen.
When in reverse (R), only images from therear cameras are displayed. When you shiftinto reverse (R), the rear view cameraimage automatically shows on the displayscreen.
Advanced Camera Views (If Equipped)
Additional camera views may beavailable for vehicles withspecific features. Press the smallcamera icon shown on the top left cornerof the display screen to open the cameraview menu.

The following camera views can beaccessed in park (P), neutral (N) or drive(D) when you press the camera button:
•Front 360 + Normal: Contains thenormal front camera view next to a360 degree camera view.
•Front Normal View: Provides animage of what is directly in front of yourvehicle.
•Front Split View: Provides anextended view of what is in front ofyour vehicle by using the front and sidecameras.
The following camera views can beaccessed when you shift into reverse (R):
•Rear 360 + Normal: Contains thenormal rear camera view next to a 360degree camera view. Press the zoom(+) button to quickly access RearNormal View from this screen.
•Rear Normal View: Provides an imageof what is directly behind your vehicle.
•Rear Split View: Provides anextended view of what is behind yourvehicle by using the rear and sidecameras.
•Rear High View: Provides an imageof your truck bed and can be used toassist you when backing up to align andhitch a fifth wheel or gooseneck trailer.
•Auxiliary View: Provides a rear viewimage from the back of your trailerwhile reversing.
•Trailer Reverse Guidance View:Provides an image of the rear of yourvehicle using the side cameras, usefulwhen reversing with a trailer. Use thearrows at the bottom of the screen toadjust the side camera position.
Keep Out Zone
The Keep Out Zone is represented by theyellow dotted lines running parallel to yourvehicle. It is designed to give you theindication on the ground of the fullyextended outside mirror position.
Front Camera
WARNING
The front camera system stillrequires the driver to use it inconjunction with looking out of yourvehicle.

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
Cruise control lets you maintain a setspeed without keeping your foot on theaccelerator pedal. You can use cruisecontrol when your vehicle speed is greaterthan 20 mph (30 km/h).
USING CRUISE CONTROL
WARNINGS
Do not use cruise control on windingroads, in heavy traffic or when theroad surface is slippery. This couldresult in loss of vehicle control, seriousinjury or death.
When you are going downhill, yourvehicle speed could increase abovethe set speed. The system does notapply the brakes.
Note:Cruise control disengages if thevehicle speed decreases more than 10 mph(16 km/h) below the set speed when drivinguphill.
The cruise controls are on the steeringwheel.
Switching Cruise Control On
Press ON.
The indicator appears in theinformation display.
Setting the Cruise Speed
1. Drive to desired speed.
2. Press SET+ or SET-.
3. Take your foot off the acceleratorpedal.
Note:The indicator changes color.
Changing the Set Speed
Note: If you accelerate by pressing theaccelerator pedal, the set speed will notchange. When you release the acceleratorpedal, your vehicle returns to the speed thatyou previously set.
