This Quick Reference Guide was designed to quickly acquaint you
with your new Ford Flex. For more detailed information and important
safety information, please refer to your Owner’s Guide.
Use extreme caution when using any device or feature that may take your attention off the
road. Your primary concern is the safe operation of your vehicle. Only use non-essential
devices or features when it is safe to do so.
instrument panel
With the all new Ford F lex, it’s up to you.
dual zone automatic temperature control
with heated seats and rear passenger
compartment climate control (if equipped)
passtEmp – Press to activate the passenger side
climate control (dual zone). Turn the control to increase/
decrease temperature. Press again to turn off and return
to single zone where the driver side temperature control
determines the temperature for the entire vehicle cabin.
driVEr/passEngErhEatEdsEats:Press once to activate high heat (two indicator lights)
and twice for low heat (one indicator light). Press again
to turn off.
auto: Press to activate automatic temperature
control. The system will automatically determine fan
speed, airflow location, A/C (on or off) and outside or
recirculated air, to heat or cool the vehicle to reach the
desired temperature. Press again to deactivate.
maXa/c: Press to distribute recirculated air through
the instrument panel vents to cool the vehicle. This mode
is more economical and efficient. Recirculated air may
also help reduce undesirable odors from entering the
vehicle. Press again for normal A/C operation.
: distributes outside air through the windshield
defroster and demister vents to clear thin ice or fog from
the windshield.
: Press repeatedly to cycle through the manual
override controls which allow you to select where airflow
is directed.
: Press to recirculate the cabin air. Recirculated
air may reduce the amount of time needed to cool
down the interior of the vehicle and may also help
reduce undesirable odors from reaching the interior of
the vehicle.
: Press to activate and clear the rear window and
side heated mirrors (if equipped) of thin ice and fog.
Press again to deactivate. The defroster will turn off
automatically after 10 minutes.
Rear Climate controls (if equipped)
Press
to turn the rear controls on/off.
Press REAR CTRL to change control of the rear climate
controls from the front to the rear controls.
Press TEMP + to increase or TEMP – to decrease the
temperature for the rear climate area.
Press
+ to increase or – to decrease the fan
speed for the rear climate area.
powEr/cabintEmpEraturE – Press to
turn the climate control system on/off and turn to
increase/decrease the vehicle cabin temperature. If
the passenger temperature control is activated, this
control will only adjust the driver side temperature.

hEadlamps,Foglamps,
panEldimmErcontrol
Turn the control one position to the right to turn on the parking lamps, instrument panel
lamps, license plate lamps and tail lamps. Turn
the control to the second position on the right
to turn on the headlamps. Turn the control
to the third position to the right to activate
the autolamp feature (if equipped), which
automatically turns the exterior lamps on and
off, based on available daylight. Pull the control
towards you to activate the fog lamps
(if equipped). (The fog lamps will not operate
when the control is turned off
or when the
high beams are on). Use the panel dimmer
control to adjust the level of brightness on the
instrument panel during parking lamp and
headlamp operation. Move the control to the full
upright position, past the detent, to turn on the
interior lamps.

sErVicEEnginEsoonlight
The service engine soon light illuminates
briefly when the ignition is turned on. If it
remains on or is blinking after the engine is
started, the On Board diagnostics System
(OBd-II) has detected a malfunction. drive in a
moderate fashion and have your vehicle serviced
immediately by an authorized dealer.
3. airbagrEadinEsslight
The air bag readiness light illuminates briefly
when the ignition is turned on. If this light fails
to illuminate, remains on or continues to flash
after the engine is started, have the system
serviced immediately by your authorized dealer.
A chime will also sound if a malfunction in the
supplemental restraint system is detected.
Vol(powEr/VolumE): Press to turn On/OFF. Turn
to increase/decrease volume.
clock: Press CLOCK to set the time. The display will
read SET TIME. Use the memory preset numbers (0–9)
to enter the desired time– hours and minutes. The clock
will then begin from that time. note: If your vehicle
is equipped with an in-dash clock refer to the Clock
description in the instrument panel section of this Quick
Reference Guide.
am/Fm: Press repeatedly to cycle through AM, FM1 and
FM2 frequency bands.
sEEk : Press to access the previous/next strong
radio station, Satellite radio channel, or the previous/next
strong Cd track.
sound: Press SOUnd repeatedly to cycle through:
Bass, Treble, Fade, Balance, dPS mode (if equipped,
Stereo Surround and Stereo modes) and Speed
Compensated Volume. When the desired selection
appears in the display, press
SEEK to
make adjustments.
dirEct: Press dIRECT and then, using the memory
presets (0-9), enter in the numbers of the desired station,
track, MP3 folder or satellite channel.
mEmoryprEsEts(0–9): You can save up to 30
radio stations (10 each in AM, FM1 or FM2) or 30 satellite
radio channels (10 each in SAT1, SAT2 or SAT3) in your
memory presets. Tune to the desired station or channel
and simply press and hold a memory preset (0–9) until
sound returns.
load: To load a Cd into the system, press LOAd. When
prompted, select the desired slot (1-6) using the memory
presets and insert the Cd into the system. Press and hold
LOAd to autoload up to six discs. Insert the discs, one at
a time, when prompted.
scan: Press for a brief sampling of radio stations, Cd
tracks or satellite radio channels. Press again to stop.
sirius: Your vehicle may be equipped with satellite
radio. Press SIRIUS to access satellite radio mode, and
cycle through SAT1, SAT2 and SAT3 modes (if equipped).
Press MEnU repeatedly until SATELLITE RAdIO MOdE
appears on the display. Press OK and then press
SEEK to cycle through CATEGORY MEnU, SOnG SEEK MEnU
and the CHAnnEL LOCKOUT MEnU. Press OK when
CATEGORY MEnU is in the display to enter into category
mode and scroll through a list of all possible SIRIUS
®
®channel categories. Press OK when SOnG SEEK MEnU
is in the display to choose to Save a song, delete a song,
delete all songs or Enable/disable Alerts. Press OK when
CHAnnEL LOCKOUT MEnU is in the display to enter the
menu and choose to Lock/Unlock this Channel,
Change PIn, Unlock all Channels or Reset PIn. For a
full description of these options, please refer to your
Owner’s Guide.

news and entertainment programming. For more

7. mEssagEcEntEr
The message center displays important vehicle information through a constant monitoring of vehicle
systems. The system will also notify you of potential vehicle problems with a display of system
warnings followed by long indicator chime. Refer to your Owner’s Guide for more information.
rEVErsEsEnsing
Your vehicle is equipped with a reverse sensing system which can warn you if there is an object
behind the vehicle. The system will sound a warning tone that increases in frequency as the object
gets closer and will sound continuously when the object is less than 10 inches away. The system
turns on automatically when the ignition is on and the vehicle is placed in reverse (R). The system can
be manually disabled through your message center controls. Warning: This system does not replace
the need to watch where the vehicle is going and monitoring all surroundings when in reverse (R)
because it may not be able to detect some objects. Refer to your Owner’s Guide for more information.
8. hazardFlashEr
Press to activate the front and rear direction signals when your vehicle is disabled and is creating a
safety hazard for other motorists. Press again to turn off. The hazard flashers will operate when the
ignition is in any position or when the ignition is turned off.
9. adVancEtrac®withrollstabilitycontrol™Your vehicle is equipped with an AdvanceTrac® stability system. This system consists of three main
features: Traction Control™ (helps avoid wheel spin and loss of traction), Electronic Stability Control
(helps avoid skids or lateral slides), and Roll Stability Control™ (helps avoid a vehicle roll-over). These
features work together to help you to maintain stability and steerability of your vehicle during a
variety of road conditions. If your vehicle becomes stuck in the snow, mud or sand, try turning off the
AdvanceTrac®
® system to allow wheel spin and help increase momentum to dig the vehicle out. The
system defaults to on and the control will illuminate when turned off.

4.anti-lockbrakEsystEm(abs)warninglight
The ABS light illuminates briefly when the ignition is turned on. If the
ABS light remains on or continues to flash, a malfunction has been
detected. Have the system serviced immediately by your authorized
dealer. normal braking (less ABS) is still functional unless the brake
warning light
is also illuminated.
5.stEEringwhEElcontrols(ifequipped)
The appearance and functionality of your vehicle’s steering wheel
controls may vary according to your option package. Refer to your
Owner’s Guide for a complete description of all possible options.
To set the speed control, press and release On. Accelerate to the
desired speed. Press and release the SET + or SET - control. Take
your foot off the accelerator pedal. The speed control indicator light
will illuminate in the cluster. To set a higher speed: press and
hold SET+ until the desired speed is reached, or briefly press SET+ to
increase the speed by small amounts. To set a lower speed: press and
hold SET- until the desired speed is reached, or briefly press SET- to
decrease the speed by small amounts. Press RESUME to return to
the previously set speed. To turn speed control off, depress the brake
pedal or press OFF.
Press – VOL + to decrease/increase the volume.
Press
to access the previous/next preset radio station,
Cd track or preset satellite radio channel.
Press
to activate the Voice recognition system. Refer to your SYnC
or navigation supplement (if equipped) for more information.
Press MEdIA repeatedly to scroll through all possible media sources
(AM, FM1, FM2, Cd . . .etc ).
Press
to answer a call if equipped with SYnC. Press and hold to
end a call. Refer to your SYnC supplement for more information.
Press OK to confirm menu selections if equipped with SYnC.

multi-FunctionlEVErRotate the end of the control up to increase the speed of the wipers
and rotate down to decrease the speed of the wipers. Briefly press
the end of the stalk for a single swipe of the wipers without washer
fluid. A quick push and hold results in three swipes with washer fluid
while a longer push and hold activates the wash pattern for up to five
seconds. For better visibility, your vehicle will also automatically turn
on your headlights during daylight if your windshield wipers and auto
lamps
are on. To operate your rear window wiper, turn the rear
wiper control to 1 (intermittent speed), 2 (normal speed), or
(off). For a rear wash cycle, rotate and hold the rear
wiper control to the position.
