To change the position of the steering column:

Make sure your vehicle is stopped.

Pull the tilt release lever on the column toward you.

Tilt the steering wheel up or down until you find the best
position for you.

Release the lever to lock the wheel in place.

Be sure the steering wheel is locked in place. It can only be
adjusted to specific positions. Do not adjust the steering wheel
while the vehicle is in motion.

Press SET ACCEL. For speed control to operate, the speed
control must be ON and the vehicle speed must be greater than
30 mph (48 km/h).

If you drive up or down a steep hill, your vehicle speed may
vary momentarily slower or faster than the set speed. This is
normal.

Speed control cannot reduce the vehicle speed if it increases
above the set speed on a downhill. If your vehicle speed is
faster than the set speed while driving on a downhill in
j
(Overdrive), you may want to shift to the next lower gear to
reduce your vehicle speed.

If your vehicle slows down more than 10 mph (16 km/h) below
your set speed on an uphill, your speed control will disengage.
This is normal. Pressing RESUME will re-engage it.

RWARNING
To keep your vehicle under control, do not use speed
control in heavy traffic or on roads that are winding,
slippery, or unpaved.

To Set a Higher Set Speed

Press and hold SET ACCEL. Release the switch when the
desired vehicle speed is reached. OR

set speed by 1 mph (1.6 km/h). OR

Accelerate with your accelerator pedal, then press SET
ACCEL.

You may accelerate with the accelerator pedal at any time
during speed control usage. Releasing the accelerator pedal will

Lights when either the SET ACCEL or RESUME switches are
pressed and remains lit until it is either disengaged or turned
off.

Setting the Autolamp Delay System (If equipped)
[CF27301(ALL)10/96]
Autolamp delay allows the headlamps to remain on after the
vehicle is parked and the ignition is turned off. The slide knob
on the bottom of the mirror controls whether Autolamp is ON
or OFF as well as the length of the delay. The delay can be
adjusted from 1 second (far left position, but not OFF) up to 3
minutes (far right position). A green indicator on the lamp lets
you know that the headlamps are being controlled by the
Autolamp system.

Setting the autolamp
[CF27901(ALL)10/96]
The headlamps can be adjusted to turn on earlier or later in the
day according to the amount of outside light reaching the
sensor inside the mirror. To turn the headlamps on using
Autolamp, perform the following procedure.

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and place the
Autolamp slide knob to OFF.
[CF28011(ALL)10/96]2.
Press and hold the MODE switch throughout the procedure.
The MODE switch is located in a hole on the bottom left
side of the mirror. It can be accessed with a paper clip or
similar object.

Slowly slide the Autolamp slide knob to the right until the
headlamps turn on. To have the headlamps turn on earlier,
go to step 4. To have the headlamps turn on later, go to step
5.

Slowly slide the Autolamp slide knob to the left until the
headlamps turn off. Go to step 6.
[CF28041(ALL)10/96]5.
Slowly slide the Autolamp slide knob to the right until the
headlamps turn off. Go to step 6.

Release the MODE switch. The new setting will be stored in
permanent memory. If further change is required, you must
repeat the procedure from the beginning.

Front Dome Lamp

Front dome lamp, rear cargo and second row reading lamp may
be turned on and off using the dimmer switch.

The front dome lamp is located in the overhead console
between the driver and front passenger seats.

Your vehicle may have a map lamp for the passenger and one
for the driver. The map lamps and switches are located on the
front dome lamp in the overhead console.

vehicle.

The second row reading lamp may be turned on by using the
rocker switch located on the lamp assembly or by using the
instrument panel dimmer switch.

Automatic Dimming Inside Rearview Mirror

The automatic non-glare mirror
[CF30801(ALL)10/96]
The electronic day/night mirror is equipped with a glare control
feature that automatically darkens the mirror to reduce glare
from headlamps of vehicles approaching from the rear. The
mirror will return to the normal state when glare is no longer
detected. There will be a slight delay before returning to the
normal state from the non-glare state to prevent excessive
changing of the mirror in traffic.

To provide full visibility when backing your vehicle, the mirror
will not darken when you place the transaxle in R (Reverse).

Your vehicle may have illuminated courtesy mirrors on the sun
visors. You can turn on the lighted mirrors by lifting the mirror
door cover.

Sliding Door

The sliding door allows rear seat passengers to enter and exit
easily.

To open the sliding door from inside of the vehicle, pull the
handle toward the rear of the vehicle. The door will stay open if
you slide it all the way back until the detent at the bottom of
the door engages.

To close the door, pull the handle toward the front of the
vehicle and slide the door. Be sure it is fully closed.

To open the sliding door from outside the vehicle, unlock the
door then unlatch the sliding door by pulling the handle
straight out and sliding the door back.

If you lock your doors with the power lock switch or the
remote transmitter while the sliding door is open, the door will
automatically lock after it is closed.

Childproof Lock for the Sliding Door

Your vehicle has a childproof lock for the sliding door. If you
set the childproof lock, the sliding door cannot be opened from
inside the vehicle.

This lock will keep children from opening the door from the
inside; the door can still be opened from the outside if the door
is unlocked.
