Your Genesis Brand should not be modified in any way. Such modifica-
tions may adversely affect the performance, safety or durability of your
Genesis Brand and may, in addition, violate conditions of the limited
warranties covering the vehicle. Certain modifications may also be in
violation of regulations established by the U.S. Department of
Transportation and other federal or state agencies.
CAUTION: MODIFICATIONS TO YOUR GENESIS BRAND
Your vehicle is equipped with electronic fuel injection and other elec-
tronic components. It is possible for an improperly installed/adjusted
two-way radio or cellular telephone to adversely affect electronic sys-
tems. For this reason, we recommend that you carefully follow the
radio manufacturer’s instructions or consult your Genesis Brand deal-
er for precautionary measures or special instructions if you choose to
install one of these devices.

This manual includes information titled as DANGER, WARNING, CAU-
TION and NOTICE.

pleased to welcome you to the growing number of distinguished people who
drive the Genesis Brand. We are very proud of the advanced engineering and
high-quality construction of each Genesis Brand Product we build.
Your Owner’s Manual will introduce you to the features and operation of your
new Genesis Brand Product. To become familiar with your new Genesis Brand
Product, so that you can fully enjoy it, read this Owner’s Manual carefully
before driving your new vehicle.
This manual contains important safety information and instructions intended
to familiarize you with your vehicle’s controls and safety features so you can
safely operate your vehicle.
This manual also contains information on maintenance designed to enhance
safe operation of the vehicle. It is recommended that all service and mainte-
nance on your car be performed by an authorized Dealer of Genesis Brand
Products. Dealer of Genesis Brand Products are prepared to provide high-
quality service, maintenance and any other assistance that may be required.
This Owner’s Manual should be considered a permanent part of your vehicle,
and should be kept in the vehicle so you can refer to it at any time. The man-
ual should stay with the vehicle if you sell it to provide the next owner with
important operating, safety and maintenance information.

Your new vehicle is designed to obtain maximum performance with UNLEAD-
ED FUEL, as well as minimize exhaust emissions and spark plug fouling.
3.3 engine
Your new vehicle is designed to use only unleaded fuel having an octane num-
ber ((R+M)/2) of 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher. (Do not use
methanol blended fuels)
5.0 engine
Your new vehicle is designed to use only unleaded fuel having an octane num-
ber ((R+M)/2) of 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher. For improved
vehicle performance, premium unleaded fuel with an octane number ((R+M)/2)
of 91 (Research Octane Number 96) or higher is recommended. (Do not use
methanol blended fuels.)
To prevent damage to the engine and engine components, never add
any fuel system cleaning agents to the fuel tank other than what has
been specified.
Consult an authorized Dealer of Genesis Brand Products for additional
information.
NOTICE
• Do not "top off" after the nozzle automatically shuts off when refu-
eling.
Always check that the fuel cap is installed securely to prevent fuel spillage in the event of an accident.

Gasoline containing alcohol or methanol
Gasohol, a mixture of gasoline and ethanol (also known as grain alcohol) are
being marketed along with or instead of leaded or unleaded gasoline. For
example, "E15" is a gasohol comprised of 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline.
Do not use gasohol containing more than 15% ethanol, and do not use gaso\
-
line or gasohol containing any methanol. Either of these fuels may cause dri-
vability problems and damage to the fuel system, engine control system and
emission control system.
Discontinue using gasohol of any kind if drivability problems occur.
"E85" fuel is an alternative fuel comprised of 85 percent ethanol and 15 per-
cent gasoline, and is manufactured exclusively for use in Flexible Fuel
Vehicles. "E85" is not compatible with your vehicle. Use of "E85" may result in
poor engine performance and damage to your vehicle's engine and fuel sys-
tem. Genesis Brand Product recommends that customers do not use fuel with
an ethanol content exceeding 15 percent.
To prevent damage to your vehicle’s engine and fuel system:
Never use gasohol which contains methanol.
Never use gasohol containing more than 15% ethanol.
Never use leaded fuel or leaded gasohol.
Never use "E85" fuel.
Your New Vehicle Limited Warranty does not cover damage to the fuel
system or any performance problems caused by the use of "E85" fuel.
Using Fuel Additives (except Detergent Fuel Additives)
Using fuel additives such as:
- Silicone fuel additive
- Ferrocene (iron-based) fuel additive
- Other metallic-based fuel additives
may result in cylinder misfire, poor acceleration, engine stalling, damage to
the catalyst, or abnormal corrosion, and may cause damage to the engine
resulting in a reduction in the overall life of the powertrain.
- The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate.
Damage to the fuel system or performance problem caused by the use
of these fuels or fuel additives may not be covered by your New Vehicle
Limited Warranty.

NOTICE

Gasoline containing MMT
Some gasoline contains harmful manganese-based fuel additives such as
MMT (Methylcyclopentadienyl Manganese Tricarbonyl).
Genesis Brand Product does not recommend the use of gasoline containing
MMT.
This type of fuel can reduce vehicle performance and affect your emission
control system.
The malfunction indicator lamp on the cluster may come on.
Detergent Fuel Additives
Genesis Brand Product recommends that you use good quality gasolines treat-
ed with detergent additives such as TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline, which help
prevent deposit formation in the engine. These gasolines will help the engine run
cleaner and enhance performance of the Emission Control System. For more
information on TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline, please go to the website
(www
.toptiergas.com).
For customers who do not use TOP Tier Detergent Gasoline regularly, and
have problems starting or the engine does not run smoothly, detergent-based
fuel additives that you can purchase separately may be added to the gasoline.
If TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is not available, one bottle of additive added
to the fuel tank at every 7,500 miles or 12 months is recommended.
Additives are available from your authorized Dealer of Genesis Brand
Products along with information on how to use them. Do not mix other addi-
tives.
Operation in foreign countries
If you are going to drive your vehicle in another country, be sure to:
Observe all regulations regarding registration and insurance.
Determine that acceptable fuel is available.

Opening the Fuel Filler Door
1. Turn the engine off.
2. Push the fuel filler door openerbutton.
3. Pull the fuel filler door (1) out to fully open.
4. To remove the fuel tank cap (2), turn it counterclockwise. You may
hear a hissing noise as the pres-
sure inside the tank equalizes.
Place the cap on the fuel filler
door.
Information
If the fuel filler door does not open
because ice has formed around it, tap
lightly or push on the door to break the
ice and release the door. Do not pry on
the door. If necessary, spray around the
door with an approved de-icer fluid (do
not use radiator anti-freeze) or move
the vehicle to a warm place and allow
the ice to melt.
Closing the Fuel Filler Door
1. To install the fuel tank cap, turn it clockwise until it "clicks" one time.
2. Close the fuel filler door until it is latched securely.

Gasoline is highly flammable
and explosive. Failure to follow
these guidelines may result in
SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH:
Read and follow all warnings
posted at the gas station.
Before refueling, note the location of the Emergency
Gasoline Shut-Off, if available,
at the gas station.
Before touching the fuel noz- zle, you should eliminate the
potential build-up of static
electricity by touching a metal
part of the vehicle, a safe dis-
tance away from the fuel filler
neck, nozzle, or other gas
source, with your bare hand.

Do not use cellular phones while refueling. Electric cur-
rent and/or electronic interfer-
ence from cellular phones can
potentially ignite fuel vapors
and cause a fire.
Do not get back into a vehicle once you have begun refuel-
ing. You can generate a build-
up of static electricity by
touching, rubbing or sliding
against any item or fabric
capable of producing static
electricity. Static electricity
discharge can ignite fuel
vapors causing a fire. If you
must re-enter the vehicle, you
should once again eliminate
potentially dangerous static
electricity discharge by touch-
ing a metal part of the vehicle,
away from the fuel filler neck,
nozzle or other gasoline
source, with your bare hand.
When using an approved portable fuel container, be
sure to place the container on
the ground prior to refueling.
Static electricity discharge
from the container can ignite
fuel vapors causing a fire.
Once refueling has begun,
contact between your bare
hand and the vehicle should
be maintained until the filling
is complete.
Use only approved portable plastic fuel containers designed
to carry and store gasoline.

When refueling, always movethe shift lever to the P (Park)
position, set the parking
brake, and place the Engine
Start/Stop button to the OFF
position. Sparks produced by
electrical components related
to the engine can ignite fuel
vapors causing a fire.
Do not use matches or a lighter and do not smoke or
leave a lit cigarette in your
vehicle while at a gas station,
especially during refueling.
Do not over-fill or top-off your vehicle tank, which can cause
gasoline spillage.
If a fire breaks out during refu- eling, leave the vicinity of the
vehicle, and immediately con-
tact the manager of the gas
station and then contact the
local fire department. Follow
any safety instructions they
provide.
If pressurized fuel sprays out, it can cover your clothes or
skin and thus subject you to
the risk of fire and burns.
Always remove the fuel cap
carefully and slowly. If the cap
is venting fuel or if you hear a
hissing sound, wait until the
condition stops before com-
pletely removing the cap.
Always check that the fuel cap is installed securely to pre-
vent fuel spillage in the event
of an accident.
