5. To tighten the belt, push downon the child restraint, pull the
shoulder portion of the belt to
tighten the lap portion of the belt,
and feed the shoulder belt back
into the retractor. When installing
a forward-facing child restraint, it
may be helpful to use your knee
to push down on the child
restraint as you tighten the belt.
Try to pull the belt out of the
retractor to make sure the
retractor is locked. If the
retractor is not locked, repeat

tether, follow the child restraint
manufacturer's instructions
regarding the use of the top
tether. See Lower Anchors and

7. Before placing a child in the child restraint, make sure it is
securely held in place. To check,
grasp the child restraint at the
safety belt path and attempt to
move it side to side and back
and forth. When the child
restraint is properly installed,
there should be no more than
2.5 cm (1 in) of movement.
To remove the child restraint,
unbuckle the vehicle safety belt and
let it return to the stowed position.
If the top tether is attached to a top
tether anchor, disconnect it.
Securing Child Restraints
(Front Seat-Passenger
Sensing System)
This vehicle has airbags. A rear seat
is a safer place to secure a
forward-facing child restraint. See
Where to Put the Restraint on
page 3‑45.
On vehicles with a passenger
sensing system, the system is
designed to turn off the right front
passenger frontal airbag under
certain conditions. See Passenger
Sensing System on page 3‑30 and
Passenger Airbag Status Indicator
on page 5‑19 for more information,
including important safety
information.

You will be using the lap-shoulder
belt to secure the child restraint in
this position. Follow the instructions
that came with the child restraint.
1. Move the seat as far back as itwill go before securing the
forward-facing child restraint.
When the passenger sensing
system has turned off the right
front passenger frontal airbag,
the off indicator on the
passenger airbag status
indicator should light and stay lit
when the vehicle is started. See
Passenger Airbag Status
Indicator on page 5‑19.
2. Put the child restraint on the seat.
3. Pick up the latch plate, and run the lap and shoulder portions of
the vehicle's safety belt through
or around the restraint. The child
restraint instructions will show
you how.
4. Push the latch plate into the
buckle until it clicks.
Position the release button on
the buckle so that the safety belt
could be quickly unbuckled if
necessary.5. Pull the shoulder belt all the wayout of the retractor to set the
lock. When the retractor lock is
set, the belt can be tightened but
not pulled out of the retractor.

safety belt path and attempt to

in the passenger airbag status
indicator will come on and stay on
when the vehicle is started.

To remove the child restraint,
unbuckle the vehicle safety belt and
let it return to the stowed position.
If the top tether is attached to a top
tether anchor, disconnect it.

Controls
Steering Wheel
Adjustment
For vehicles with a tilt steering
wheel, the lever is located on the
left side of the steering column.
To adjust the steering wheel:
1. Pull the lever to move thesteering wheel up or down into a
comfortable position.
2. Release the lever to lock the steering wheel in place. Do not adjust the steering wheel
while driving.
Steering Wheel Controls
If available, some audio controls
can be adjusted at the steering
wheel.

w(Next): Press to go to the next
favorite radio station, track on a CD,
or folder on an iPod
®or USB
device.
c/x(Previous/End): Press to
go to the previous favorite radio
station, track on a CD, or folder on

®or USB device. Also press
to reject an incoming call, or end a
current call.
Radio
To select preset or favorite radio
stations:
Press and release
worc/xto
go to the next or previous radio
station stored as a preset or
favorite.
CD
To select tracks on a CD:
Press and release
worc/xto
go to the next or previous track.

Windshield Wiper/Washer
The windshield wiper control is
located on the multifunction lever on
the left side of the steering wheel.
Turn the band with
Non it to select
the wiper speed.
8(Mist): Use for a single wipe.
Hold the band on
z, then release.
For several wipes, hold the band on
zlonger.
6(Adjustable Interval Wipes): Use
to adjust the delay time between
wipes. Turn the band up for more
frequent wipes or down for less
frequent wipes.
d(Low Speed): Slow wipes.
a(High Speed): Fast wipes.
9(Off):Use to turn the wipers off.
When driving during the day and the
wipers are activated, the head
lamps automatically turn on after
completing eight wipe cycles.
Clear ice and snow from the wiper
blades before using them. If frozen
to the windshield, carefully loosen or
thaw them. Damaged blades should
be replaced.
Windshield Washer
The windshield wiper paddle is
located on top of the multifunction
lever.
L(Washer Fluid): Push the
paddle to spray washer fluid on the
windshield. The wipers will clear the
window and then either stop or
return to the preset speed.
{WARNING
In freezing weather, do not use
the washer until the windshield is
warmed. Otherwise the washer
fluid can form ice on the
windshield, blocking your vision.

Clock
AM/FM Radio with Optional
CD Player
If the vehicle has an AM/FM radio
with an optional CD player, it has a
Hbutton for setting the time. With
these types of radios, the clock can
be set with either the radio turned
on or off.
Set the time by following these
steps:
1. Press
Huntil the hour begins
flashing on display. Press this
button a second time and the
minutes begin flashing on
display.
Press
Ha third time and the
12HR or 24HR time format
begins flashing. 2. While either the hour or the
minutes are flashing, turn the
fknob, located on the upper
right side of the radio, clockwise
or counterclockwise to increase
or decrease the time. While the
12HR or 24HR time format is
flashing, turn the
fknob
clockwise or counterclockwise to
select the default time settings.
3. Press
Hagain until the clock
display stops flashing to set the
currently displayed time;
otherwise, the flashing stops
after five seconds and the
current time displayed is
automatically set.
MP3 Radio with a Single CD
Player
If the vehicle has a radio with a
single CD (MP3) player, the radio
has a
Hbutton for setting the time
and date. To set the time and date, follow the
instructions:
1. Press
Hand the HR, MIN, MM,
DD, YYYY (hour, minute, month,
day, and year) displays.
2. Press the softkey located under any one of the tabs that you
want to change. Every time the
softkey is pressed again, the
time or the date if selected,
increases by one.
Another way to increase the time
or date, is to press
¨SEEK or
\FWD (forward).
3. To decrease, press
©SEEK or
sREV. You can also turn thefknob, located on the upper
right side of the radio, to adjust
the selected setting.

Antilock Brake System
(ABS) Warning Light
For vehicles with the Antilock Brake
System (ABS), this light comes on
briefly when the engine is started.
If it does not, have the vehicle
serviced by your dealer. If the
system is working normally the
indicator light then goes off.If the ABS light stays on, turn the
ignition off. If the light comes on
while driving, stop as soon as it is
safely possible and turn the ignition
off. Then start the engine again to
reset the system. If the ABS light
stays on, or comes on again while
driving, the vehicle needs service.
If the regular brake system warning
light is not on, the vehicle still has
brakes, but not antilock brakes.
If the regular brake system warning
light is also on, the vehicle does not
have antilock brakes and there is a
problem with the regular brakes.

Tow/Haul Mode Light
For vehicles with the Tow/Haul
Mode feature, this light comes on
when the Tow/Haul Mode has been
activated.

Engine Power Messages
ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED
This message displays and a chime
sounds when the cooling system
temperature gets too hot and the
engine further enters the engine
coolant protection mode. See
Engine Overheating on page 10‑23
for further information.
This message also displays when
the engine power is reduced.
Reduced engine power can affect
the vehicle's ability to accelerate.
If this message is on, but there is
no reduction in performance,
proceed to your destination. The
performance may be reduced the
next time the vehicle is driven. The
vehicle may be driven at a reduced
speed while this message is on, but
acceleration and speed may be
reduced. Anytime this message
stays on, the vehicle should be
taken to your dealer for service as
soon as possible.
Fuel System Messages
FUEL LEVEL LOW
This message displays and a chime
sounds if the fuel level is low. Refuel
as soon as possible. SeeFuel
Gauge on page 5‑12 andFuel on
page 9‑40 for more information.
TIGHTEN GAS CAP
This message may display along
with the check engine light on the
instrument panel cluster if the fuel
cap is not tightened properly. See
Malfunction Indicator Lamp on
page 5‑20. Reinstall the fuel cap
fully. SeeFilling the Tank on
page 9‑43. The diagnostic system
can determine if the fuel cap has
been left off or improperly installed.
A loose or missing fuel cap allows
fuel to evaporate into the
atmosphere. A few driving trips with
the cap properly installed should
turn this light and message off.
Key and Lock Messages
REPLACE BATTERY IN
REMOTE KEY
This message displays if a Remote
Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter
battery is low. The battery needs to
be replaced in the transmitter. See
“Battery Replacement” under
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)
System Operation on page 2‑3.
Lamp Messages
AUTOMATIC LIGHT
CONTROL OFF
This message displays when the
automatic headlamps are turned off.
See Exterior Lamp Controls on
page 6‑1 for more information.

This message displays when the
