Instrument CIuster
Your instrument cluster is designed to let you know at a glance how your
vehicle is running. You’ll know how fast you’re going, ab\
out how much fuel
you have and many other things you’ll need to know to driv\
e safely and economically.
Tachometer Cluster
If you have the tachometer cluster, it looks different but will t\
ell you
everything the standard cluster does, with the addition
of displaying your
engines revolutions per minute (rpm).
Speedometer and Odometer

Your speedometer lets you see your speed in both miles per hour (\
mph) and
kilometers per hour (kmlh). Your odometer shows how far your vehicle has
been driven, in either miles (used in the U.S.) or kilometers (used in
Canada).
If you have the Sport Performance Model (RPO B4U), your speedome\
ter
reading will
go to 110 mph (1 80 km/h).
Tamper-Resistant Odometer
Your odometer is tamper-resistant. The odometer will show silver line\
s
between the numbers
if someone tries to turn it back.
You may wonder what happens
if your vehicle needs a new odometer
installed.
If the new one can be set to the mileage total of the old odometer,
then it must be. But
if it can’t, then it’s set at zero, and a label must be p\
ut

on the driver’s door to show the old mileage reading when the new odometer
was installed.
Trip Odometer

The trip odometer can tell you how far your vehicle has been \
driven since
you last set the trip odometer
to zero.
To reset the trip odometer, fully press the reset button located \
near the
readout.
If the reset button is not fully pressed, the trip odometer may \
not go
all the way back to zero. If it doesn’t, you may have to press the reset
button again
to reset the readout to zero.

“English” and “metric” fasteners can be easily confus\
ed.

use the wrong fasteners, parts can later break or fall
off. You
could be hurt.

These numbers on an oil container show its viscosity, or thickness.
Do not use other viscosity oils such as
SAE IOW-40 or SAE 2OW-50.
Energy Conserving II
Oils with these words on the container will help you save fuel.
This doughnut-shaped logo (symbol) is used on most oil containers to help
you select the correct oil.
You should look for this on the oil container, and use
only those oils that
display the logo.
GM Goodwrench@ oil (in Canada, GM Engine Oil) meets all the requirements
for your vehicle.
Engine Oil Additives:
Don’t add anything to your oil. Your GM dealer is ready to advise if you think
something should be added.
When to Change Engine Oil:
See if any one of these is true for you:
Most trips are less than 4 miles (6 km).
It’s below freezing outside and most trips are less than 10 miles
(16 km).
The engine is at low speed most of the time (as in door to door
delivery, or in stop-and-go traffic).
You tow a trailer often.
Most trips are through dusty places.
The vehicle is frequently operated off-road.
If any one of these is true for your vehicle, then you need to change your
oil and filter every 3,000 miles (5000 km) or 3 months-whichever comes
first.
Vehicles with Light Duty Emissions (8500 GVWR or less).
If none of them is true, change the oil every 7,500 miles (12 500 km) or 12
months-whichever comes first. Change the filter at the first oil change and at
every other oil change after that.
Vehicles with Heavy Duty Emissions (8501 GVWR or more).
If none of them is true, change the oil every 6,000 miles (10 000 km) or 12
months-whichever comes first. Change the filter at the first oil change and at
every other oil change after that
‘if mileage determines when you change your
oil.
If time determines when you change your oil, change the filter ea\
ch time
you change your oil.

Service & Appearance Cam
Tire lnspecfion and Rotation
To make your tires last longer, have them inspected and rotated at the
mileages recommended in the Maintenance Schedule. See “Scheduled
Maintenance Services” in the Index.

Use this rotation pattern.
If your vehicle has front tires with different load ratings or tread designs (such
as all season
vs. onloff road) than the rear tires, don’t rotate your tires \
front
to rear.
After the tires have been rotated, adjust the front and rear \
inflation pressure
as shown on the CertificationRire label. Make certain that all wheel nuts are
properly tightened. See “Wheel Nut Torque”
in the Index.
A Rust or dirt on a wheel, or on the parts to which -it is fastened, can
make the wheel nuts become loose after a time. The wh.eel could
come
off and cause an accident. When you change- a- :wheel, remove
’ any -rust or dirt from places where the wheel attaches to the vehicle:
,: In an emergency, you can use a cloth or paper towel to do this; but
3 be sure to use a scraper or wire brush later, if you need- to, to get
-T all the rust or dirf off. See “Changing a Flat Tire” in the Index.

Customer Satisfaction Procedure
Your satisfaction and goodwill are important to your dealer and GMC Truck.
Normally, any concerns with the sales transaction or the operat\
ion of your
vehicle will be resolved by your dealer’s Sales or Service \
Departments. Sometimes, however, despite the best intentions of all concerned\
,
misunderstandings can occur. If your concern has not been resolved
to your
satisfaction, the following steps should be taken:
STEP ONE -Discuss your concern with a member of dealership
management. Complaints can often be quickly resolved at that le\
vel. If the
matter has already been reviewed with the Sales, Sewice, or Pa\
rts Manager,
contact the owner of the dealership or the General Manager.
STEP TWO -If after contacting a member of Dealership Management, it
appears your concern cannot be resolved by the dealership witho\
ut further
help, contact the GMC Truck Consumer Relations Manager by calli\
ng 1-800-GMC-TRUCK
(1 -800-462-8782). In Canada, contact the GM of Canada
Customer Assistance Center in Oshawa by calling 1-800-263-3777 (\
English) or
1-800-263-7854 (French).

US. Virgin Islands, call

In all other overseas locations, contact GM International

Customer Assistance Information
In order to file a claim, you will have to provide your name and address, the
vehicle identification number (VIN) of your vehicle, and a statement of the
nature of your complaint. BBB staff may
try to help resolve your dispute
through mediation.
If mediation is not successful, or if you do not wish to
participate in mediation, eligible customers may present their case to an
impartial third-party arbitrator at an informal hearing. The arbitrator will render
a decision in your case, which you may accept or reject.
If you accept a
valid arbitrator decision, GM will be bound by that decision. The entire dispute
settlement process should ordinarily take about
40 days from the time you file
your complaint
to the time a decision is rendered (or 47 days if you did not
first contact your dealer or GMC Truck).
We encourage you
to use this program before or instead of resorting to the
courts. We believe it offers advantages over courts in most jurisdictions
because it is fast, free of charge, and informal (lawyers are not usually
present, although you may retain one at your expense
if you choose).
Arbitrators make decisions based on the principals of fairness \
and equity, and
are not required
to duplicate the functions of courts by strictly applying state
or federal law.
If you wish to go to court, however, we do not require that
you first file a claim with BBB AUTO LINE* unless state law provides
otherwise. Whatever your preference may be, remember that
if you are
unhappy with the results of BBB AUTO LINE, you can still go to court
because an arbitrator’s decision is binding on GM but not on you, unless you
accept
it.
Eligibility is limited by vehicle agelmileage and other factors. For further
information concerning the program, call the BBB at 1-800-955-51\
00. You may
also call GMC Truck’s Customer Relations Manager.
*Some states may require that you file a claim with BBB AUTO \
LINE before resorting
to state-operated procedures (including court),
Reporting Safety Defects to the United
! Ites Government
If you believe that your vehicle has a defect which could cause \
a crash or
could cause injury or death, you should immediately inform the \
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in addition
to notifying General
Motors.
If NHTSA receives similar complaints, it may open an investigation, and if it
finds that a safety defect exists in a group of vehicles, it may order a recall
and remedy campaign. However, NHTSA cannot become involved in individual
problems between you, your dealer, or General Motors.
