roof GMC SIERRA 2010 Owner's Guide

Auxiliary Roof-Mounted Lamp
If the vehicle has this feature, this button includes wiring
provisions for a dealer or a qualified service center to
install an auxiliary roof lamp.
This button is located on
the overhead console.
When the wiring is connected to an auxiliary roof
mounted lamp, pressing the bottom of the button will
activate the lamp and illuminate an indicator light at the
bottom of this button. Pressing the top of the button will
turn off the roof mounted lamp and indicator.
The emergency roof lamp circuit is fused at 30 amps,
so the total current draw of the attached lamps should
be less than this value. The attachment points for the
roof lamp circuits are two blunt cut wires located above
the overhead console, a dark green switched power
wire and a black ground wire. For further information on roof mount emergency lamp

If the vehicle has this button, the vehicle may have the
snow plow prep package. For further information see

Instrument Panel Brightness
D (Instrument Panel Brightness) : This feature
controls the brightness of the instrument panel lights
and is located next to the exterior lamp control.
Push the knob to extend out and then it can be turned.
Turn the knob clockwise or counterclockwise to brighten
or dim the instrument panel lights. Turning the knob to
the farthest clockwise position turns on the dome lamps.
Dome Lamps
The dome lamps come on when any door is opened.
They turn off after all the doors are closed.
The dome lamps can also be turned on by turning the
instrument panel brightness knob, located on the
instrument panel to the left of the steering column,
clockwise to the farthest position. In this position, the
dome lamps remain on whether a door is opened or
closed.

Compass Calibration
The compass can be manually calibrated. Only calibrate
the compass in a magnetically clean and safe location,
such as an open parking lot, where driving the vehicle
in circles is not a danger. It is suggested to calibrate
away from tall buildings, utility wires, manhole covers,
or other industrial structures, if possible.
If CAL should ever appear in the DIC display,
the compass should be calibrated.
If the DIC display does not show a heading, for
example, N for North, or the heading does not change
after making turns, there may be a strong magnetic field
interfering with the compass. Such interference may be
caused by a magnetic CB or cell phone antenna mount,
a magnetic emergency light, magnetic note pad holder,
or any other magnetic item. Turn off the vehicle, move
the magnetic item, then turn on the vehicle and calibrate
the compass.To calibrate the compass, use the following procedure:Compass Calibration Procedure
1. Before calibrating the compass, make sure the
compass zone is set to the variance zone in which
the vehicle is located. See “Compass Variance
(Zone) Procedure” earlier in this section.
Do not operate any switches such as window,
sunroof, climate controls, seats, etc. during the
calibration procedure.
2. Press the vehicle information button until PRESS
VTO CALIBRATE COMPASS displays. Or, if the
vehicle does not have DIC buttons, press the trip
odometer reset stem until CALIBRATE COMPASS
displays.
3. Press the set/reset button to start the compass calibration. Or, if the vehicle does not have DIC
buttons, press and hold the trip odometer reset
stem for two seconds to start the compass
calibration.
4. The DIC will display CALIBRATING: DRIVE IN CIRCLES. Drive the vehicle in tight circles at less
than 5 mph (8 km/h) to complete the calibration.
The DIC will display CALIBRATION COMPLETE
for a few seconds when the calibration is complete.
The DIC display will then return to the
previous menu.

XM™Satellite Radio Service
XM Satellite Radio Service gives digital radio reception
from coast-to-coast in the 48 contiguous United States,
and in Canada. Just as with FM, tall buildings or hills
can interfere with satellite radio signals, causing the
sound to fade in and out. In addition, traveling or
standing under heavy foliage, bridges, garages,
or tunnels may cause loss of the XM signal for a
period of time.
Cellular Phone Usage
Cellular phone usage may cause interference
with the vehicle's radio. This interference may occur
when making or receiving phone calls, charging
the phone's battery, or simply having the phone on.
This interference causes an increased level of static
while listening to the radio. If static is received while
listening to the radio, unplug the cellular phone
and turn it off.
Fixed Mast Antenna
The fixed mast antenna can withstand most car washes
without being damaged as long as it is securely
attached to the base. If the mast becomes slightly bent,
straighten it out by hand. If the mast is badly bent,
replace it.
Occasionally check to make sure the antenna is
tightened to its base. If tightening is required, tighten
by hand until fully seated plus one quarter turn.
XM™Satellite Radio Antenna
System
The XM Satellite Radio antenna is located on the roof of
the vehicle. Keep the antenna clear of obstructions for
clear radio reception.
If the vehicle has a sunroof, the performance of the
XM system may be affected if the sunroof is open.

Loading Your Vehicle for Off-Road
Driving
{WARNING:
.Cargo on the load floor piled higher than the
seatbacks can be thrown forward during a
sudden stop. You or your passengers could
be injured. Keep cargo below the top of
the seatbacks.
.Unsecured cargo on the load floor can be
tossed about when driving over rough terrain.
You or your passengers can be struck by
flying objects. Secure the cargo properly.
.Heavy loads on the roof raise the vehicle's
center of gravity, making it more likely to roll
over. You can be seriously or fatally injured if
the vehicle rolls over. Put heavy loads inside
the cargo area, not on the roof. Keep cargo
in the cargo area as far forward and low
as possible.There are some important things to remember about
how to load your vehicle.
.The heaviest things should be on the floor, forward
of the rear axle. Put heavier items as far forward
as you can.
.Be sure the load is properly secured, so things are
not tossed around.

Environmental Concerns
Off-road driving can provide wholesome and satisfying
recreation. However, it also raises environmental
concerns. We recognize these concerns and urge
every off-roader to follow these basic rules for
protecting the environment:
.Always use established trails, roads, and areas
that have been specially set aside for public
off-road recreational driving and obey all posted
regulations.
.Avoid any driving practice that could damage
shrubs, flowers, trees, or grasses or disturb
wildlife. This includes wheel-spinning, breaking
down trees, or unnecessary driving through
streams or over soft ground.
.Always carry a litter bag and make sure all refuse
is removed from any campsite before leaving.

a guide when selecting the amount of equipment or
cargo the truck can carry. If unsure of the vehicle's front,
rear, or total weight, go to a weigh station and weigh the
vehicle. Your dealer/retailer can also help with this.

found in the lower right corner of the Certification/Tire
label as shown previously.

Emergency Roof Lamp Provisions
Vehicles with the RPO VYU snow plow prep package
also have an emergency roof lamp provision package,
RPO TRW. Wiring for the emergency roof lamp is
provided above the overhead console. See Auxiliary
Roof-Mounted Lamp
on page 4‑14for switch location.
Truck-Camper Loading Information
A vehicle specific Truck‐Camper Loading
information label is attached to the inside of your
vehicle's glove box. This label will tell you if your
vehicle can carry a slide-in camper, how much of
a load your vehicle can carry, and how to correctly
spread out the load. Also, it will help you match
the right slide-in camper to your vehicle.
When you carry a slide-in camper, the total cargo
load of your vehicle is the weight of the camper,
plus the following:
.Everything else added to the camper after it
left the factory
.Everything in the camper
.All the people inside
The Cargo Weight Rating (CWR) is the maximum
weight of the load your vehicle can carry. It does
not include the weight of the people inside. But,
you can figure about 150 lbs (68 kg) for each seat.
