K(Unlock): Press once to unlock
only the driver door. If
Kis pressed
again within three seconds, all
remaining doors unlock. The interior
lamps may come on and stay on for
20 seconds or until the ignition is
turned on.
If enabled through the DIC, the turn
signal lamps flash twice to indicate
unlocking has occurred. If enabled through the DIC, the exterior lamps
may turn on. See

If equipped, memory seat positions
may be recalled when unlocking the
vehicle if enabled. See Vehicle
Personalization on page 5-44 and
Memory Seats on page 3-5.
Pressing
Kon the RKE transmitter
disarms the alarm system. See

If equipped with auto mirror folding,
pressing and holding
Kfor

b(Liftgate): Press twice to open
or close the liftgate. Press once to
stop the liftgate from moving.
c(Liftglass): Press twice to open
the liftglass.
7(Vehicle Locator/Panic
Alarm): Press and release to
initiate vehicle locate. The turn
signal lamps flash and the horn
sounds three times.
Press and hold
7for more than
three seconds to activate the panic
alarm. The turn signal lamps flash
and the horn sounds repeatedly for
30 seconds. The alarm turns off
when the ignition is moved to ON/
RUN or
7is pressed again. The
ignition must be in LOCK/OFF for
the panic alarm to work.
Keyless Access Operation
The Keyless Access system allows
for doors and the liftgate to be
accessed without pressing the RKE
transmitter button. The RKE
transmitter must be within 1 m (3 ft)
of the door being opened. If the
vehicle has this feature, there will be
a button on the outside door
handles.

Keyless Access can be
programmed to unlock all doors on
the first lock/unlock press from the
driver door. SeeVehicle

Keyless Unlocking/Locking from
the Driver Door
When the doors are locked and the
RKE transmitter is within 1 m (3 ft)
of the door handle, pressing the
lock/unlock button on the driver door
handle will unlock the driver door.
If the lock/unlock button is pressed
again within five seconds, all
passenger doors and liftgate will
unlock.

Pressing the lock/unlock button will
cause all doors to lock if any of the
following occur:
.It has been more than
five seconds since the first lock/
unlock button press.
.Two lock/unlock button presses
were used to unlock all doors.
.Any vehicle door has been
opened and all doors are now
closed. Keyless Unlocking/Locking from
the Passenger Doors
When the doors are locked and the
RKE transmitter is within 1 m (3 ft)
of the door handle, pressing the
lock/unlock button on a passenger
door handle will unlock all doors.
Pressing the lock/unlock button will
cause all doors to lock if any of the
following occur:
.The lock/unlock button was used
to unlock all doors.
.Any vehicle door has been
opened and all doors are now
closed.
Passive Locking
If equipped with Keyless Access,
this feature will lock the vehicle
several seconds after all doors are
closed, if the vehicle is off and at
least one RKE transmitter has been
removed from the interior, or none
remain in the interior.
If other electronic devices interfere
with the RKE transmitter signal, the
vehicle may not detect the RKE

transmitter inside the vehicle.
If passive locking is enabled, the
doors may lock with the RKE
transmitter inside the vehicle. Do
not leave the RKE transmitter in an
unattended vehicle.
Temporary Disable Passive
Locking Feature
Temporarily disable the passive
locking by pressing and holding
K
on the interior door switch with a
door open for at least four seconds,
or until three chimes are heard.
Passive locking will then remain
disabled until
Qon the interior door
is pressed, or until the vehicle is
turned on.
To customize the doors to
automatically lock when exiting the
vehicle, see “Remote Lock, Unlock,
Start” under Vehicle Personalization
on page 5-44.
Keyless Liftgate Opening
Press the touch pad on the
underside of the liftgate handle to
open the liftgate when all doors are unlocked, or when all doors are
locked and the transmitter is within
1 m (3 ft).
Keyless Liftglass Opening
Press the exterior liftglass button to
open the liftglass when all doors are
unlocked, or when all doors are
locked and the transmitter is within
1 m (3 ft).

To access a vehicle with a dead
transmitter battery, see Door Locks
on page 2-16.
Programming Transmitters to
the Vehicle
Only RKE transmitters programmed
to the vehicle will work. If a
transmitter is lost or stolen, a
replacement can be purchased and
programmed through your dealer.
The vehicle can be reprogrammed
so that lost or stolen transmitters no longer work. Each vehicle can have
up to eight transmitters matched
to it.
Programming with a Recognized
Transmitter (Keyless Access
Vehicles Only)
A new transmitter can be
programmed to the vehicle when
there is one recognized transmitter.
To program, the vehicle must be off
and all transmitters, both currently
recognized and new, must be
with you.
1. Remove the key from the
recognized transmitter.
2. Place the recognized transmitter(s) in the cupholder or
passenger seat.

3. Insert the vehicle key into thekey lock cylinder on the driver
door handle. Then turn the key
counterclockwise, to the unlock
position, five times within
10 seconds.
The Driver Information Center
(DIC) displays READY FOR
REMOTE#2, 3, 4, ETC.
4. Place the new transmitter in the
transmitter pocket/insert.
Open the center console storage
area and the storage tray. The
transmitter pocket/insert is in front of the storage area next to
the center console storage area
between the driver and front
passenger seats.
5. Press the ENGINE START/ STOP button. When the
transmitter is learned, the DIC
display will show that it is ready
to program the next transmitter.
6. Remove the transmitter from the transmitter pocket and press
K
orQon the transmitter.
To program additional
transmitters, repeat Steps 4–6.
When all additional transmitters
are programmed, press and hold
the ENGINE START/STOP
button for approximately
12 seconds to exit
programming mode.
7. Return the key back into the transmitter. Programming without a
Recognized Transmitter (Keyless
Access Vehicles Only)
If there are no currently recognized
transmitters available, follow this
procedure to program up to eight
transmitters. This feature is not
available in Canada. This procedure
will take approximately 30 minutes
to complete. The vehicle must be off
and all transmitters to be
programmed must be with you.
1. Remove the vehicle key from the
transmitter.
2. Insert the vehicle key into the key lock cylinder on the driver
door handle; then turn the key
counterclockwise, to the unlock
position five times within
10 seconds.
The Driver Information Center
(DIC) displays REMOTE LEARN
PENDING, PLEASE WAIT.

2. Lift the battery with a flat object.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Insert the new battery, positiveside toward the back cover.
Replace with a CR2032 or
equivalent battery.
5. Push together the transmitter.
Remote Vehicle Start
If equipped with the remote start
feature, the climate control system
will come on when the vehicle is
started remotely depending on the
outside temperature. The rear defog and heated and
cooled seats, if equipped, may also
come on. See
Heated and Cooled
Front Seats on page 3-7 and
Vehicle Personalization on
page 5-44.
Laws in some communities may
restrict the use of remote starters.
Check local regulations for any
requirements on remote starting of
vehicles.
Do not use remote start if the
vehicle is low on fuel.
The vehicle cannot be remote
started if:
.The key is in the ignition (Key
Access) or the transmitter is in
the vehicle (Keyless Access).
.The hood is not closed.
.There is an emission control
system malfunction and the
malfunction indicator lamp is on. The engine will turn off during a
remote vehicle start if:
.The coolant temperature gets
too high.
.The oil pressure gets low.
The RKE transmitter range may be
reduced while the vehicle is running.

Starting the Engine Using Remote
Start

To lock or unlock the doors from
outside the vehicle:
.PressQorKon the Remote
Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter.
.Use the key in the driver door.
To lock or unlock the doors from
inside the vehicle:
.PressQorKon the power door
lock switch.
.Pushing down the manual lock
knob on the driver door will lock
all doors. Pushing down the
manual lock knob on a
passenger door will lock only
that door.
.Pulling an interior door handle
will unlock the door. Pulling the
door handle again unlatches it. Keyless Access
If equipped, the RKE transmitter
must be within 1 m (3 ft) of the door
being opened. Press the button on
the door handle to open. See
“Keyless Access Operation”

Key Cylinder Access
To access the key cylinder, insert
the key into slot on the bottom of
the door handle and pry cover off.
Replace cover when done by
snapping on tabs.

Manual Liftgate
To open the liftgate, pressKon the
power door lock switch or press
K
on the RKE transmitter twice to
unlock all doors. Press the touch
pad (1) on the underside of the
liftgate handle and lift up.
Press the button (2) above the
license plate to open the liftglass,
or press
btwice quickly on the
RKE transmitter. Do not leave the
liftglass open when raising the
liftgate. There will be a delay in the release
of the liftglass if there is an attempt
to open it while the rear wipers are
in motion.
Use the pull cup to lower and close
the liftgate. Do not press the touch
pad while closing the liftgate. This
will cause the liftgate to be
unlatched.
If equipped with Keyless Access,
the RKE transmitter must be within
1 m (3 ft) of the liftgate to
automatically unlock it. See
Remote

page 2-8.
The liftgate has an electric latch.
If the battery is disconnected or has
low voltage, the liftgate will not
open. The liftgate will resume
operation when the battery is
reconnected and charged.
Power Liftgate Operation
{Warning
You, or others, could be injured if
caught in the path of the power
liftgate. Make sure there is no one
in the way of the liftgate as it is
opening and closing.
If equipped, the switch is on the
overhead console. The vehicle must
be in P (Park).

The modes are:
.MAX: Opens to maximum
height.
.3/4: Opens to a reduced height
that can be set from 3/4 to fully
open. Use to prevent the liftgate
from opening into overhead
objects such as a garage door or
roof-mounted cargo. The liftgate
can be opened all the way
manuallly.
.OFF: Opens manually only.
To open or close the liftgate, select
MAX or 3/4 mode and then:
.Pressbtwice quickly on the
RKE transmitter until the liftgate
moves.
.Press8on the overhead
console. The driver door must
be unlocked.
.Press the touch pad on the
outside liftgate handle after
unlocking all doors. If equipped
with Keyless Access, a locked vehicle can be opened if the
RKE transmitter is within 1 m
(3 ft) of the touch pad.
.Presslon the bottom edge of
the liftgate next to the latch to
close.
Press any liftgate button, the touch
pad, or
bon the RKE transmitter
while the liftgate is moving to stop it.
Pressing again restarts the
operation in the reverse direction.
The touch pad on the liftgate handle
cannot be used to close the liftgate. Do not manually force the liftgate to
open or close during a power cycle.
The power liftgate may be
temporarily disabled in extremely
low temperatures, or after repeated
power cycling over a short period of
time. If this occurs, the liftgate can
still be operated manually. Select
OFF on the liftgate switch.
If the vehicle is shifted out of
P (Park) while the power function is
in progress, the liftgate will continue
to completion. If the vehicle is
accelerated before the liftgate has
completed moving, the liftgate may
stop or reverse direction. Make sure
the liftgate is closed and latched
before driving.
If the power liftgate support strut
has lost pressure, the turn signals
will flash and a chime will sound
while the liftgate automatically
closes. See your dealer for service
before using the power liftgate.

Slow Flash:Alarm system is
armed.
Arming the Alarm System
1. Turn off the vehicle.
2. Lock the vehicle with one of
three ways:
.Use the RKE transmitter.
.Use the Keyless Access
system.
.With a door open, pressQ
on the interior of the door.
3. After 30 seconds the alarm system will arm, and the
indicator light will begin to slowly
flash. Pressing
Qon the RKE
transmitter a second time will
bypass the 30-second delay and
immediately arm the alarm
system.
The vehicle alarm system will not
arm if the doors are locked with
the key. If the driver door is opened without
first unlocking with the RKE
transmitter, the horn will chirp and
the lights will flash to indicate
pre-alarm. If the vehicle is not
started, or the door is not unlocked
by pressing
Kon the RKE
transmitter during the 10-second
pre-alarm, the alarm will be
activated.
The alarm will also be activated if a
passenger door, the liftgate, or the
hood is opened without first
disarming the system. When the
alarm is activated, the turn signals
flash and the horn sounds for about
30 seconds. The alarm system will
then re-arm to monitor for the next
unauthorized event.
Disarming the Alarm System
To disarm the alarm system or turn
off the alarm if it has been activated:
.PressKon the RKE transmitter.
.Unlock the vehicle using the
Keyless Access system.
.Start the vehicle.
To avoid setting off the alarm by
accident:
.Lock the vehicle after all
occupants have exited.
.Always unlock a door with the
RKE transmitter, or use the
Keyless Access system.
Unlocking the driver door with
the key will not disarm the
system or turn off the alarm.
How to Detect a Tamper
Condition
IfKis pressed on the RKE
transmitter and the horn chirps three
times, an alarm occurred previously
while the alarm system was armed.
If the alarm has been activated, a
message will appear on the DIC.

The vehicle is automatically
immobilized when the vehicle is
turned off.
The system is automatically
disarmed when the key is turned to
ON/RUN, ACC/ACCESSORY,
or START from the LOCK/OFF
position.
The security light, in the instrument
cluster, comes on if there is a
problem with arming or disarming
the theft-deterrent system.
When trying to start the vehicle, the
security light comes on briefly when
the ignition is turned on.
If the engine does not start and the
security light stays on, there is a
problem with the system. Turn the
ignition off and try again.
If the engine still does not start, and
the key appears to be undamaged,
try another ignition key. It may be
necessary to check the fuse. See
Fuses on page 10-33. If the engine
still does not start with the other key,the vehicle needs service. If the
vehicle does start, the first key may
be faulty. See your dealer.
It is possible for the immobilizer
system to learn new or replacement
keys. Up to eight keys can be
programmed for the vehicle. To

Do not leave the key or device that
disarms or deactivates the vehicle
theft system in the vehicle.
See your dealer to get a new key
blank cut exactly as the ignition key
that operates the system.Immobilizer Operation
(Keyless Access)
This vehicle has a passive
theft-deterrent system.
The system does not have to be
manually armed or disarmed.
The vehicle is automatically
immobilized when the transmitter
leaves the vehicle.
The immobilization system is
disarmed when the ignition button is
pressed in and a valid transmitter is
found in the vehicle.
The security light in the instrument
cluster comes on if there is a
problem with arming or disarming
the theft-deterrent system.
