Troubleshooting
JDTC 2-4 - With Front Passenger's Airbag
CAUTION: Whenever the ignition switch is ON lll), or
has been turnod OFF for less than throa minutes, be
car.Iul not to bump the SRS unit; the airbags could
accidentally deploy and cause damage or iniuries.
Try to r€producethe SRS indicalor light:1. Erase the DTC memory (see page 24 15).2. Turn the ignition switch ON (ll), and check that the SRS indicator light comes on Ior about six seconds and goes off.
Does the SRS indicator light stay on?

Check lor a short to pow6r in the passenger's airbag intla-tor:1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.2. Disconnect the battery negative cable, then disconnectthe positive cable, and wait for three minutes.3. Disconnect the front passenger's airbag 2P connectorfrom the SRS main harness lsee page 2/t 11).4. Connect the special tool (2 O) to the SRS main harness2P connector.CAUTION: Do not disconnect the driver's airbag connec-tor.5, Reconnect the battery posit;ve cable, then reconnect thenegative cable.6. Erase the DTC memory (see page 24-15).7. Bead the DTC (see page 24-13).

Check lor e short to power in lhe SRS main harness:
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable, then disconnect
the positive cable, and wait Ior three minutes.
2. Disconnect the driver's airbag 2P connector lrom the
cable reel 2P connector.3. Disconnect the SRS main harness 18P connector trom
the sRs unit.4. Remove the special tool (2 o) from the SRS main harness
2P connector,5. Reconnect the baftery positive cable, then reconnect the
negative cable.6. Connect a voltmeter between the No. 10 (+) terminal of
SRS main harness 18P connector and ground.
7. Turn the ignition switch ON lll), and measure voltage
There should be 0.5 V or less.
L Connect a voltmeter between the No. 14 (+) terminal of
the SRS main harness 18P connector and ground, and
measure voltage. There should be 0.5 V or less.
A16 voltages as specified?

T.y lo reproduce the SRS indicator light:1. Erase the DTC memory (see page 24,15).2. Turn the ignition switch ON l), and check thatthe SRS indi-cator light comes on for about six seconds and ooes off.

the positive cable, and wait for three minutes
2. Disconnect the driver's airbag 2P connector from the
cable reel 2P connector'3. Disconnect the SRS main harness 18P connector from
the sRS unit.4. Remove the special tool (2 0) from the SRS main harness
2P connector,5. Check resistance b€tween the No. 10 terminal ol the SRS
main harness 18P connector and ground, and between
the No. 14 terminal ot the SRS main harnoss 18P connec
tor and ground. There should be 1 N/10 or more'

CAUTION: Whenever the ignition switch is ON {lll. or

CAUTION: Whenever the ignition switch is ON (lll, ot
has been turned OFF for less than three minutes, be
careful not to bump thc SRS unit; the ailbag could acci-
dentally deploy and cause damage or iniuries.
Try to reproduce the SRS indicator light:
1. Erase the DTC memory tsee page 24 15).
2. Turn the ignition switch ON (ll), and check that the SRS indi-
cator light comes on for about six seconds and goes off
Ch6ck for a Short to another wile or decreased resistance in
the dummy resistor:1. Turn the ignitaon switch OFF.
2. Remove the dummy resistor from the SRS main harness
2P connector.

3. Check the resistance between the A and B terminals of
the dummy resistor. There should be 1-5 - 2.5 O.
Check for a short to another wile or decrea36d r6istance in
the SRS main harness:1. Disconnect the battery negative cable, then d'sconnect
the positive cable, and wait for three m inutes
2. Disconnect the driver's airbag 2P connector from the
cable reel 2P connector (see page 24-l l)
3. Disconnect the SRS main harness 18P connector from
the sRs unit.NOTE: Do not connect the dummy resistor to the SRS
main harness 2P connector.
4. Check resistance between the No lO terrninal andNo lil
terminal of the SRS main harness 18P connector' There
should be 1 M0 or more.

DTC 8-6
CAUTION: Whonover the ignition switch is ON lll), or
has been turned OFF for less than thro€ minutes, be
careful not to bump th6 SRS unit; the airbags couldaccidentally deploy and cause damage or iniuries.
Besides indicating an abnormality in the SRS unit, DTC
8-6 may also indicate that two problems equivalent to
DTC 1-l and 2-4, 1-4 and 2-1, ot 1-4 and 2-4 occurred at
the same time. Proceed in the order shown below.

FUSE/BELAY BOX
Chcck for an op€n in th6 SRS main harness:
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconne;t the battery negative cable, then disconnect
the positive cable, and wait for three minutes'
3. Disconnect tho driver's (and front passenger's) airbag
connector (see Page 24'11).
4. Disconnect the SRS main harness 18P connector from
the SRS unit
5. Reconnect the battery positive cable, then reconnect the
neoative cable.
6. Co-nnect a voltmeter betlveen the No 3 terminal ol the
SFS main harness 18P connector and ground'
7. Turn theswitch ON (ll), and m€asure

Airbag
)Replacement
After a collision in which the airbags were deployed' the
airbag assemblies and the SRS unit must be replaced'
!!!@ Store a removed airbag with the pad sur'

enough force to cause serious iniury'
CAUTION:
. Always disconnsct lhe airbag conn€ctor(s) when the
harness is disconnected.
. Do not disassemble or tamper with the ailbag'
NOTE:
. Do not install used SRS parts from another vehicle'
When repairing, use only new SRS parts'
o Carefully inspect the airbag before you install it Do
not insiall an airbag that shows signs oI being
dropped or improperly handled, such as dents' cracks
or deformation.
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable' then discon-
nect the positive cable from the battery' and wait at
least three minutes
2. Disconnect the airbag connector(s):
Driver's Side:
. Remove the access panel from the steering wheel'
then disconnecl the 2P connector betlveen the driv-
er's airbag and cable reel
NOTE: When disconnected, the airbag connector ls
automaticallY shorted
