Valve Seats
Reconditioning
lf the guides are worn (see page 6-25), replace them (seepage e25) before reconditioning the valve seats.
1. Renew the valve seats in the cylinder head using avalve seat cutter.
Carefully cut a 45o seat, removing only enoughmaterialto ensure a smooth and concentric seat.
Bevel the upper edge of the seat with the 30. cutterand the lower edge of the seat with the 60" cutter.Check width of seat and adjust acco.dingly.
Make one more very light pass with the 45o cutter toremove any possible burrs caused bv the other cut-ters.
Valve Seat Width (lntake and Exhaust):

5. After resurfacing the seat, inspect for even valve
seating: Apply Prussian Blue compound to the valve
face, and insert the valve in its original location in
the head, then lift it and snap it closed against the
seat several times.

The actual valve seating surface, as shown by the
blue compound, should be centered on the seat.. lf it is too high (closer to the valve stem), you
must make a second cut with the 60" cutter tomove it down, then one more cut with the 45"
cutter to restore seat width.
. lf it is too low (closer to the valve edge), you
must make a second cut with the 30. cutter tomove it up, then one more cut with the 45. cutter
to restore seat width.
NOTE: The final cut should alwavs be made withthe 45" cutter,
Insert the intake and exhaust valves in the head,
and measure valve stem installed heioht.

Clearance Inspection
1.Measure the clearances between the reverse shift
holder and sth/reverse shift Diece Din.
Standard:A: 0.05 - 0.35 mm (0.002 - 0.014 in)
8: 0.4 - 0.8 mm 10.02 - 0.03 inl
Service Limit: A: 0.5 mm (0.02 in)
B: 1.0 mm 10.0,[ in]
2.lf the clearances are more than the service limit.
measure the widths of the groove in the reverse
shift holder.
Standard: A: 7.05 - 7.25 mm {0.278 - 0.285 inl
B: 7.4 - 7.7 mm (0.29 - 0.30 inl
lf the widths of the grooves are not within thestandard, replace the reverse shift holder with a
new one.
lf the widths of the grooves are within the stan-
dard, replace the sth/reverse shift piece with anew one.

NOTE: The synchro sleeve and synchro hub should be
reolaced as a set.
1. Measure the clearance between each shift fork and
its matching synchro sleeve.
Standard: 0.35 - 0.65 mm 10.01/t - 0.026 inl
Service Limit: 1,0 mm {0.039 inl

2. lf the clearance exceeds the service limit. measure
the thickness of the shift fork fingers.
Standard:
lf the thickness of the shift fork finger is less than
the standard, replace the shift fork with a new
one.
lf the thickness of the shift fork tinger is within
the standard, replace the synchro sleeve with a
new one.

installthe park gear using a press and a collar.
Tighten the locknut to 29 N.m (3.0 kgf.m, 22 lbf.ft).
The countershaft locknut has left-hand threads.

5. Measure the clearance between the 2nd gear and
the 28 mm distance collar with a feeler gauge.
NOTE: Take measurements in at least three places,
and use the average as the actual clearance.
STANDARD: 0.10 - 0.18 mm (0.004 - 0.007 in)

tance collar, and measure its width.
7. Select and install a new distance collar, then recheck.

11. Glue the molding side seal and molding upper seal
to the molding on each side.

12. Align and glue the molding to the edge of the wind-
shield.
NOTE: Be careful not to touch the windshield
where adhesive will be applied.
a. With a brush, apply a light coat of primer (3lvl N-
200, or equivalent) to the edge ot the windshield
as shown,
b. Glue the adhesive tapes l3M 4212, or equivalent)
to both bottom edges of the windshield.
c. Align the alignment mark on the molding to the
alignment mark of the windshield.
d. Glue the molding to the edge of the windshield.
