4. If the fluid level is good, installthe plug and be sure it is fully
seated. If the fluid level is low,
add more fluid as described in
the next steps.
How to Add Fluid
Refer to the Maintenance Schedule
to determine what kind of fluid to
use. See Recommended Fluids and
Lubricants on page 11‑8.
1. Remove the filler plug.
2. Add fluid at the filler plug hole. Add only enough fluid to bring
the fluid level up to the bottom of
the filler plug hole.
3. Install the filler plug. Be sure the plug is fully seated.
Hydraulic Clutch
The hydraulic clutch linkage in the
vehicle is self-adjusting. The clutch
master cylinder reservoir is filled
with hydraulic clutch fluid.
The hydraulic clutch fluid reservoir
cap has this symbol on it. See
Engine Compartment Overview
on
page 10‑6for reservoir location.
It is not necessary to regularly
check clutch fluid unless a leak in
the system is suspected. Adding
fluid will not correct a leak.
A fluid loss in this system could
indicate a problem. Have the
system inspected and repaired.
When to Check and What
to Use
Refer to the Maintenance Schedule
to determine how often to check
the fluid level in the clutch master
cylinder reservoir and for the proper
fluid. See Recommended Fluids and
Lubricants on page 11‑8.
How to Check and Add Fluid
The proper fluid should be added if
the level does not reach the bottom
of the diaphragm when it is in place
in the reservoir. See the instructions
on the reservoir cap.

Engine Air Cleaner/Filter

The engine air cleaner/filter is
located in the engine compartment
on the passenger side of the
vehicle. See Engine Compartment
Overview
on page 10‑6for more
information on location.
When to Inspect the Engine Air
Cleaner/Filter
Inspect the air cleaner/filter at the
Maintenance IIintervals and replace
it at the first oil change after each
80 000 km (50,000 mile) interval.
See Scheduled Maintenance
on
page 11‑2for more information.
If you are driving in dusty/dirty
conditions, inspect the filter at each
engine oil change.
How to Inspect the Engine Air
Cleaner/Filter
To inspect or replace the engine air
cleaner/filter:
1. Unfasten the clips that hold the cover on and remove the cover.
2. Lift out the engine air cleaner/filter. 3. Inspect or replace the air filter.

Parts
on page 11‑10to determine
which filter to use.
4. Reinstall the engine air cleaner/filter cover. Fasten the
clips to hold the cover in place.
{WARNING
Operating the engine with the air
cleaner/filter off can cause you
or others to be burned. The air
cleaner not only cleans the air; it
helps to stop flames if the engine
backfires. Use caution when
working on the engine and do not
drive with the air cleaner/filter off.
Notice: If the air cleaner/filter is
off, dirt can easily get into the
engine, which could damage it.
Always have the air cleaner/filter
in place when you are driving.

Wiper Blade Replacement
Windshield wiper blades should be
inspected for wear and cracking.
SeeScheduled Maintenance

page 11‑2for more information.
Replacement blades come in
different types and are removed
in different ways. For proper type
and length, see Maintenance
Replacement Parts on page 11‑10. To replace the windshield wiper
blade:
1. Lift the wiper arm away from the
windshield.
2. Push the release lever (B) to
disengage the hook and push
the wiper arm (A) out of the
blade (C).
3. Push the new wiper blade securely on the wiper arm until
you hear the release lever click
into place.
To replace the rear wiper blade, lift
the rear wiper arm from the window
and pull the blade.

10. Set all four tires to therecommended air pressure
level as indicated on the Tire
and Loading Information label.
11. Put the valve caps back on the valve stems.
Tire Inspection
We recommend that you
regularly inspect your vehicle's
tires, including the spare tire,
if the vehicle has one, for
signs of wear or damage. See
When It Is Time for New Tires
on
page 10‑58
for more information.
Tire Rotation
Tires should be rotated every
5,000 to 8,000 miles (8 000 to
13 000 km). See Scheduled
Maintenance
on page 11‑2. The purpose of a regular tire
rotation is to achieve a uniform
wear for all tires on the vehicle.
This will ensure that the vehicle
continues to perform most like it
did when the tires were new.

important. See

Any time you notice unusual
wear, rotate the tires as soon
as possible and check wheel
alignment. Also check for
damaged tires or wheels.

Make sure the spare tire is
stored securely. Push, pull and
then try to rotate or turn the tire.
If it moves, use the wheel
wrench/hoist shaft to tighten the

When rotating the vehicle's tires,
always use the correct rotation
pattern shown here. Do not
include the spare tire in the tire
rotation.
After the tires have been
rotated, adjust the front and rear
inflation pressures as shown on
the Tire and Loading Information

Notice: Maintenance
intervals, checks, inspections,
recommended fluids, and
lubricants are necessary to keep
this vehicle in good working
condition. Damage caused by
failure to follow scheduled
maintenance might not be
covered by the vehicle warranty.
As the vehicle owner, you are
responsible for the scheduled
maintenance in this section. We
recommend having your dealer/
retailer perform these services.
Proper vehicle maintenance helps to
keep the vehicle in good working
condition, improves fuel economy,
and reduces vehicle emissions for
better air quality. Because of all the different ways
people use vehicles, maintenance
needs vary. The vehicle might need
more frequent checks and services.
Please read the information under
Scheduled Maintenance. To keep
the vehicle in good condition, see
your dealer/retailer.
The maintenance schedule is for
vehicles that:
.Carry passengers and cargo
within recommended limits on
the Tire and Loading Information
label. See
Vehicle Load Limits

.Are driven on reasonable road
surfaces within legal driving
limits.

certain that you will receive the
highest level of service available. Your dealer/retailer has specially
trained service technicians, uses
genuine replacement parts, as
well as, up to date tools and
equipment to ensure fast and
accurate diagnostics.

page 11‑10. We recommend the
use of genuine parts from your
dealer/retailer.
Rotation of New Tires
To maintain ride, handling, and
performance of the vehicle, it is
important that the first rotation
service for new tires be performed
when they have 8 000 to 13 000 km
(5,000 to 8,000 miles). See Tire
Rotation on page 10‑57.

When the Change Oil Message
Displays
Change engine oil and filter. See
Engine Oilon page 10‑9. An
Emission Control Service.
When the “Change Oil” message
displays, service is required for
the vehicle as soon as possible,
within the next 1 000 km/600 miles.
If driving under the best conditions,
the engine oil life system might not
indicate the need for vehicle service
for more than a year. The engine
oil and filter must be changed at
least once a year and the oil life
system must be reset. Your dealer
has trained service technicians who
will perform this work and reset the
system. If the engine oil life system
is reset accidentally, service the
vehicle within 5 000 km/3,000 miles
since the last service. Reset the oil

to the United States
Government
If you believe that your vehicle
has a defect which could cause
a crash or could cause injury or
death, you should immediately
inform the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration
(NHTSA) in addition to notifying
General Motors.
If NHTSA receives similar
complaints, it may open an
investigation, and if it finds
that a safety defect exists in a
group of vehicles, it may order
a recall and remedy campaign.
