6MAINTENANCE PRECAU- TIONS
!
G020D01TG-GAT Improper or incomplete service may result in problems. This section gives instructions only for the maintenance items that are easy to perform.Several procedures should be done by an authorized Hyundai dealer. NOTE: Improper owner maintenance dur- ing the warranty period may affect warranty coverage. WARNING:
o Performing maintenance work on a vehicle can be dangerous. Youcan be seriously injured while performing some maintenance procedures. If you lack sufficientknowledge and experience or the proper tools and equipment to do the work, have it done by an autho-rized Hyundai dealer.
o Working under the hood with the
engine running is dangerous. It becomes even more dangerous when you wear jewelry or looseclothing. These can become en- tangled in moving parts and result in injury. Therefore, if you mustrun the engine while working un- der the hood, make certain that you remove all jewelry (especiallyrings, bracelets, watches, and necklaces) and all neckties, scarves, and similar loose cloth-ing before getting near the engine or cooling fans.
CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL
G030A03O-GAT Recommended Oil Gasoline Engine
Engine oil is essential to the perfor- mance and service of the engine. It is suggested that you check the oil level at least once a week in normal use andmore often if you are on a trip or driving in severe conditions. The engine oil quality should meet thefollowing classification. API Service SM* or above, ILSAC GF-4 or above
* If the API service SM engine oil is not available in your country, you are able to use API service SL. G030B01JM
5W-20*, 5W-30

G030B04FC-GAT Recommended Oil Diesel Engine Engine oil is essential to the perfor- mance and service of the engine. It issuggested that you check the oil level every 500km or before starting a long trip and more often if you are driving insevere conditions. The engine oil quality should meet the following classification: API class: CH-4 or ABOVE ACEA class: B4
NOTE:
o SAE 5W-20* (5W-30), ILSAC GF-4
engine oil is preferred regardless of regional option and enginevariation.
o If SAE 5W-20*, ILSAC GF-4 engine
oil is not available, SAE 5W-30 orsecondary recommended engine oil for corresponding temperature range can be used.
* : In Middle East, do not use the engine oil of viscosity grade SAE 5W-20.
NOTE: SAE 0W-30 oil is for extra cold zone and to be restricted by driving con- dition and dealing area. (Especially, not recommended for sustained high loaded and high speed opera- tion.)

G030D01MC-GAT Adding Oil Gasoline Engine
Before checking the oil, warm up the engine to the normal operating tem-perature and be sure your car is parked on level ground. Turn the engine off. Wait about five minutes, then remove the dipstick, wipe it off, fully reinsert the dipstick and withdraw it again. Thennote the highest level the oil has reached on the dipstick. It should be between the upper ("F") and lower ("L") range.

G350A01A-GAT ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION Function of Engine Oil Engine oil has the primary function of lubricating and cooling the inside of theengine. Engine oil consumption It is normal that an engine should consume some engine oil while nor-
mal driving. The cause of oil consump- tion in a normal engine are as follows;
o Engine oil is used to lubricate pis- tons, piston rings and cylinders. A thin film of oil is left on the cylinder wall when a piston moves down- wards in the cylinder. High negativepressure generated during engine operation sucks some of the oil into the combustion chamber. This oil with some oil of the cylinder wall is burned by the high tempera- ture combustion gases during thecombustion process.
NOTE:
o It is recommended that the engine
oil and filter should be changed by an authorized Hyundai dealer.
o Always dispose of used engine oil in an environmentally acceptablemanner. It is suggested that it beplaced in a sealed container and taken to a service station for maybe reclaimation. Do not pour the oilon the ground or put it into the household trash.
!WARNING:
Used motor oil may cause irritation or cancer of the skin if left in contact with the skin for prolonged periodsof time. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water as soon as possible after handling used oil.
!
If the oil level is close to or below the "L" mark, add oil until it reaches the "F"mark. To add oil:
1. Remove the oil filler cap by turning it counterclockwise.
2. Add oil, then check the level again.
Do not overfill.
3. Replace the cap by turning it clock- wise.
The distance between the "F" and "L" marks is equal to about 1 liter(Gasoline Engine)/1.5 liter(Diesel Engine) of oil.
WARNING:
Be very careful not to touch the radia-tor hose when adding the engine oilas it may be hot enough to burn you. CAUTION:
Slowly pour the recommended oilby using a funnel. Do not overfill soas not to damage engine.

G050B01A-AAT Recommended Engine Coolant Use a high quality ethylene-glycol cool- ant in a 50/50 mix with water. Theengine coolant should be compatible with aluminum engine parts. Additional corrosion inhibitors or additives shouldnot be used. The cooling system must be maintained with the correct con- centration and type of engine coolantto prevent freezing and corrosion. Never allow the concentration of anti- freeze to exceed the 60% level or gobelow the 35% level, or damage to the cooling system may result. For proper concentration when adding or replacingthe engine coolant, refer to the following table.

CHECKING AND CHANGING THE ENGINE COOLANT
G050A01TG-AAT
WARNING:
Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. When the engine ishot, the engine coolant is under pres- sure and may erupt through the open- ing if the cap is removed. You couldbe seriously burned if you do not observe this precaution. Do not re- move the radiator cap until the radia-tor is cool to the touch. NOTE: It is recommended that the engine coolant should be changed by an authorized Hyundai dealer.
o The engine oil consumption is strongly
effected by the viscosity and qualityof oil, engine rpm and driving condi- tion etc. The engine oil is more con- sumed under severe driving condi-tions such as high speeds and fre- quent acceleration and deceleration than normal driving condition.

CAUTION:
o Operating your vehicle without a proper air filter in place can result in excessive engine wear.
o When removing the air cleaner filter, be careful that dust or dirtdoes not enter the air intake. Thesemay result in damage to the air cleaner filter.
!
CHANGING THE AIR CLEANER FILTER
G070A03Y-AAT The replacement of air cleaner filter is performed in the following manner.
1. Unsnap the clips around the cover.
2. When this is done, the cover can be
lifted off, the old filter removed and the new filter put in its place.
Genuine Hyundai replacement parts arerecommended.
OMC055010
WINDSHIELD WIPER BLADES
G080A02A-AAT The wiper blades should be carefully inspected from time to time and cleaned to remove accumulations of road film or other debris. To clean the wiper bladesand arms, use a clean sponge or cloth with a mild soap or detergent and water. If the wipers continue to streak or smearthe glass, replace them with Genuine Hyundai Replacement parts or their equivalent.
CAUTION:
o Do not operate the wipers on dry glass. This can result in morerapid wear of the wiper bladesand may scratch the glass.
o Keep the blade rubber out of con-
tact with petroleum products suchas engine oil, gasoline, etc.
