2FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS
B010A02MC-GAT Use Unleaded Gasoline If leaded gasoline is used, it will cause the catalytic converter to become inef-fective and the emission control sys- tem to malfunction. This can also result in increased maintenance expense. Toavoid accidental use of leaded fuel, the large nozzle used with leaded gasoline at service stations can not be insertedinto fuel tank opening of Hyundai ve- hicle. NOTE:
o For some countries, Hyundai ve-
hicles are designed to use leaded gasoline. When you are going touse leaded gasoline, ask to Hyundai dealer whether leaded gasoline in your vehicle is avail-able or not.
o Octane Rating of leaded gasoline
is same with unleaded one.
For Europe
– For the optimal vehicle
performance, we recommend you to use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of RON (Research Octane Num-ber) 95 /AKI (Anti Knock Index) 91 or higher. You may use unleaded gasoline with anoctane rating of RON 91~94/AKI 87~90 but it may result in slight performance reduction of the vehicle. Except Europe – Unleaded gasoline
with a Pump Octane Rating of 87 (Re- search Octane Number 91) or higher must be used in Hyundai vehicle. B010A01MC
Use Diesel Diesel fuel Diesel engine must be operated only on commercially available diesel fuel that complies with EN 590 or comparablestandard. (EN stands for "European Norm"). Do not use marine diesel fuel, heatingoils, or non-approved fuel additives, as this will increase wear and cause dam- age to the engine and fuel system. Theuse of non-approved fuels and / or fuel additives will result in a limitation of your warranty rights.Diesel fuel of above cetane 52 is used in Hyundai vehicle. If two types of diesel fuel are available, use summer orwinter fuel properly according to the following temperature conditions.
o Above -5°C (23°F) ... Summer type
diesel fuel.
o Below -5°C (23°F) ... Winter type diesel fuel.
Watch the fuel level in the tank very carefully : If the engine stops through fuel failure, the circuits must be com- pletely purged to permit restarting.

B260N01MC-GATMalfunction Indicator Light (If Installed)
This light illuminates when there is a malfunction of an exhaust gas relatedcomponent, and the system is not func- tioning properly so that the exha ust gas
regulation values are not satisfied. This light will also illuminate when the ignition
key is turned to the "ON" position, and then it will go out in a few seconds after
the engine is started. If it illuminates
while driving, or does not illuminate whenthe ignition key is turned to the "ON"position, take your car to your nearest authorized Hyundai dealer and have the system checked.
B260M01A-AAT Low Fuel Level Warning Light
The low fuel level warning light comes on when the fuel tank is approaching empty. When it comes on, you shouldadd fuel as soon as possible. Driving with the fuel level warning light on or with the fuel level below "E" can causethe engine to misfire and damage the catalytic converter.
B260K01MC-AAT Trunk Lid/Tail Gate
Open Warning Light
This light remains on unless the trunk lid/tail gate is completely closed and latched.B260L01A-GAT Door Ajar Warning Light
The door ajar warning light warns you that a door is not completely closed.
B260L02HP-GAT Door Ajar Warning Light and Chime (Mideast only)
The door ajar warning light warns you that a door is not completely closed and the chime warns you that the key is inthe ignition switch. NOTE : The warning chime only sounds whenever the key is in the ignition switch and the driver's side frontdoor is open simultaneously. The chime sounds until the key is re- moved from the ignition switch orthe driver's side front door is closed.

Engine Coolant Tempera-
ture Warning Light
WARNING:
Never remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. The engine coolant is under pressure and could eruptand cause severe burns. Wait until the engine is cool before removing the radiator cap.
!
This warning light shows the tempera- ture of the engine coolant when the ignition switch is ON. The warning lightilluminates if the temperature of the engine coolant is above 123±3°C (253.4±5.4°F).If the warning light illuminates, pull over and stop as soon as possible and turn off the engine. Then open the hood andcheck the coolant level (See "If the engine overheats" on the page 3-4.) and the water pump drive belt. If you sus-pect cooling system trouble, have your cooling system checked by a Hyundai dealer as soon as possible. NOTE: If the engine coolant temperature warning light illuminates, it indicatesoverheating that may damage the engine.
CAUTION:
o Prolonged driving with the Emis- sion Control System MalfunctionIndicator Light illuminated may cause damage to the emissioncontrol systems which could ef- fect drivability or fuel economy. If the Emission Control SystemMalfunction Indicator Light be- gins to flash ON and OFF, poten- tial catalytic converter damage ispossible. This could result in loss of engine power. Have the Engine Control System inspected as soonas possible by an authorized Hyundai dealer (Gasoline Engine).
o In case the injection quantity ad- justment related error occurred, the Emission Control System Mal- function Indicator Light begins toflash ON and OFF. Continuous driving with this status could re- sult in abnormal engine powerloss (or power increase), com- bustion noise and poor emission. If this occurs, have your vehiclechecked by an authorized Hyundai dealer (Diesel Engine).

CATALYTIC CONVERTER
H020A01A-GAT
(If Installed) ; For a gasoline engine
H020A01MC
The catalytic converter is part of the exhaust emission control system. Itspurpose is to remove certain engine emission products from the engine's exhaust. It looks something like amuffler and is located underneath the car in the exhaust system.
Catalytic Converter H020B02A-GAT
About the Catalytic Converter
Exhaust gases passing through the
catalytic converter cause it to operate at very high temperatures. As a re- sult, the introduction of large amountsof unburned gasoline may cause it to overheat and create a fire hazard. This can be avoided by observing thefollowing:
WARNING:
o Make sure to refuel your vehicle according to the "Fuel recom- mendations" suggested in sec- tion 1.
o Maintain your engine in good condition. Extremely high con-verter temperatures can result from improper operation of the electrical, ignition or fuel injec-tion systems.
o If your engine stalls, pings,
knocks, or is hard to start, takeyour car to your Hyundai dealer as soon as possible and have the difficulty corrected.
o Avoid driving with a very low fuellevel. If your run out of gasoline, it could cause the engine to mis- fire and result in excessive load- ing of the catalytic converter.
o Avoid idling the engine for peri-
ods longer than 10 minutes.
o Your Hyundai should not be ei- ther pushed or pulled to get itstarted. This can cause the cata-lytic converter to overload.
o Take care not to stop your Hyundai over any combustible material such as grass, paper, leaves or rags. As these materials couldcome in contact with the catalytic converter and could cause a fire.
o Do not touch the catalytic con- verter or any other part of theexhaust system while the en- gine is running as it is very hotand could result in burns.
o Remember that your Hyundai dealer is your best source of as- sistance.

H020C01S-GAT
(If Installed) ; For a diesel engine
This system helps control oxides of nitrogen by recirculating a part of the exhaust gas into the engine.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER (If Installed); For a diesel engine
Hyundai vehicle is equipped with oxi-
dation type catalytic converter to re- duce the carbon monoxide, hydrocar- bons and particulate contained in theexhaust gas.
o Do not park, idle or drive your vehicle over any combustible ma- terial such as grass, paper, leaves or rags. These materials might contact the hot catalytic converterand a fire might result.
