2FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS
B010F01A-AAT Operation in Foreign Countries If you are going to drive your Hyundai in another country, be sure to:
o Observe all regulations regardingregistration and insurance.
o Determine that acceptable fuel is available.
Unleaded petrol with a Pump Octane Rating of 87 (Research Octane Num- ber 91) or higher must be used inyour Hyundai. If leaded petrol is used, it will cause the catalytic converter to become ineffec- tive and the emission control system to malfunction. This can also result inincreased maintenance expense. To avoid accidental use of leaded fuel, the larger nozzle used with leaded petrolat service stations cannot be inserted into the fuel tank opening of your Hyundai.
B010A01A-DAT Use Unleaded Petrol
B010E01A-DATPetrol for Cleaner Air To help contribute to cleaner air, Hyundai recommends that you usepetrol treated with detergent additives, which help prevent deposit formation in the engine. This petrol will help theengine run cleaner and enhance per- formance of the Emission Control Sys- tem.
B010D01A-DAT Do not Use Methanol Fuels containing methanol (wood al- cohol) should not be used in your Hyundai. This type of fuel can reducevehicle performance and damage com- ponents of the fuel system.
! CAUTION:
Hyundai Warranty Policy will not cover the damage of the fuel sys- tem and performance problems that are caused by the use of methanolor fuels containing methanol.
B010B01A-AAT What About Gasohol [E-10]? Gasohol (a mixture of 90% unleaded gasoline and 10% ethanol or grainalcohol) may be used in your Hyundai. However, if your engine develops drive ability problems, the use of 100% un-leaded gasoline is recommended. Fu- els with unspecified quantities of alco- hol, or alcohols other than ethanol, should not be used.

B160B01A-AAT Periodic Inspection It is recommended that all seat belts be inspected periodically for wear ordamage of any kind. Parts of the sys- tem that are damaged should be re- placed as soon as possible. B160C01A-AAT Keep Belts Clean and Dry Seat belts should be kept clean and dry. If belts become dirty, they can be cleaned by using a mild soap solution and warm water. Bleach, dye, strong detergents or abrasives should not beused because they may damage and weaken the fabric. B160D01A-DAT When to Replace Seat Belts Complete seat belt assembly or as- semblies should be replaced if thevehicle has been involved in an acci- dent. This should be done even if no damage is visible. Additional ques-tions concerning seat belt operation should be directed to your Hyundai Dealer. B170A02MC-AAT HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE FRONT SEAT SHOULDER BELT You can adjust the height of the shoul- der belt anchor to one of the 4 or 5 positions for maximum comfort and safety. If the height of the adjusting seat belt is too near your neck, you will not be getting the most effective protection. The shoulder portion should be ad- justed so that it lies across your chest and midway over your shoulder near-est the door and not your neck. To adjust the height of the seat belt anchor, lower or raise the height ad-juster into an appropriate position. To raise the height adjuster, pull it up.
B150B01A-DAT
Maintenance of Seat Belts When cleaning the seat belts, as recommended, avoid getting solutions into the buckle where they may attackthe lubricant or cause corrosion. Do not attempt to bleach or re-dye belts, as this may affect the webbing strength. NOTE: Do not attempt any form of modifi- cations or repairs to seat belt com- ponents. If the retractor or other components do not operate cor- rectly, call an authorised HyundaiDealer, who will take the necessary corrective action. Your authorised dealer will inspect all seat belt com-ponents at regular intervals and advise if replacement is required. Between these inspections youshould make regular checks to en- sure that foreign objects are not preventing complete buckle en-gagement.

o Modification to SRS components
or wiring, including the addition of any kind of badges to the pad covers or modifications to the body structure, can adversely affect SRSperformance and lead to possible injury.
o For cleaning the airbag pad cov- ers, use only a soft, dry cloth orone which has been moistened with plain water. Solvents or clean-ers could adversely affect the airbag covers and proper deploy- ment of the system.
o No objects should be placed over or near the airbag modules on thesteering wheel, instrument panel, and the front passenger's panel above the glove box, because any such object could cause harm ifthe vehicle is in a crash severe enough to cause the airbags to inflate.
o If the airbags inflate, they must be replaced by an authorised Hyundaidealer.

WARNING:
o Extreme Hazard! Do not use a rear- ward facing child restraint on a seat protected by an airbag in front of it!
o Do not install a child restraint sys- tem in the front passenger seatposition. A child restraint system mustnever be placed in the front seat. The infant or baby could be se- verely injured by an airbag de-ployment in case of an accident.
B240C02NF-DAT SRS Care The SRS is virtually maintenance-free and so there are no parts you can safelyservice by yourself. If the SRS SRI (Service Reminder Indicator) does not come on, or continuously remains on,have your vehicle immediately in- spected by your authorised Hyundai dealer. Any work on the SRS system, such as removing, installing, repairing, or anywork on the steering wheel must be performed by a qualified Hyundai tech- nician. Improper handling of the SRSsystem may result in serious personal injury.

C090P01A-GAT Overdrive Switch
When the overdrive switch is turned on, the transaxle will automatically upshift to the second, third and overdrive gears. When the overdrive switch is turned off,
the transaxle will not upshift to the over- drive gear. For normal driving, the selec-tor lever should be left in the "D" position
and the overdrive switch turned on. If you need to accelerate rapidly, pressthe accelerator pedal all the way to the floor. The transaxle will automatically shift to a lower gear, depending on thevehicle speed and load.
C090I02MC-DAT
!
CAUTION:
o Shift into "R", "D" and "P" posi- tion only when the vehicle has completely stopped.
o Do not accelerate the engine in
reverse or any of the forwardpositions with the brakes applied.
o Always apply the footbrake when shifting from "P" or "N", to "R","D", "2" or "L" position.
o Do not use the "P" (Park) posi- tion in place of the hand brake.Always set the hand brake, shift the transaxle into "P" (Park) po-sition and turn off the ignition when you leave the vehicle, even momentarily. Never leave the ve-hicle unattended while the en- gine is running.
o When accelerating from a stop on a steep hill, the vehicle may havea tendency to roll backwards. Shift- ing the shift lever into 2nd gearwill help prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards.
o Check the automatic transaxle fluid level regularly, and add fluid asnecessary.
C090H01A-DAT NOTE:
o For smooth and safe operation,
depress the brake pedal when shifting from "Neutral" position or "Park" position to a forward or reverse gear.
o The ignition key must be in the "ON" position and the brake pedalfully depressed in order to movethe shift lever from the "P" (Park) position to any of the other posi- tions.
o It is always possible to shift from "R", "N", "D", "2", L" position to"P" position. The vehicle mustbe fully stopped to avoid transaxle damage.
OMC035016R
o See the maintenance schedule for
the proper fluid recommendation.
E060103AUN Ignition key interlock system (If Installed) The ignition key cannot be removed unless the shift lever is in the P (Park)position. If the ignition switch is in any other position, the key cannot be re- moved.
