✽NOTICE - Unlock mode con-
version (if equipped)
You can change the system to unlock all
doors by turning the key to the right
once. If you want this feature (central
door unlock mode), perform the follow-
ing:
two stage unlock mode ↔ ↔
central door
unlock mode
The unlock mode is changed alternately
by pressing the lock button and unlock
button on the transmitter (if equipped)
at the same time for 5 seconds or more.
The hazard warning lights will blink
four times to indicate that the mode con-
version is completed.
To lock a door without the key, push the
inside door lock button (1) or central
door lock switch (2) to the "Lock" posi-
tion and close the door (3).
If you lock the door with the central door lock switch (2), all vehicle doors
will lock automatically.
✽ ✽ NOTICE
Always remove the ignition key, engage
the parking brake, close all windows
and lock all doors when leaving your
vehicle unattended.
Operating door locks from inside
the vehicle
With the door lock button
To unlock a door, push the door lock
button (1) to the "Unlock" position. The
red mark (2) on the button will be visi-
ble.
To lock a door, push the door lock but- ton (1) to the "Lock" position. If the
door is locked properly, the red mark
(2) on the button will not be visible.
To open a door, pull the door handle (3) outward.
If the inner door handle on either front door is pulled when the door lock but-
ton is in the locked position, the door
(or all doors) will unlock and the door
will open. (if equipped)
WARNING
If you don't close the doorsecurely, the door may open
again.
Be careful that someone's body and hands are not trapped when
closing the door.

Power windows
The ignition switch must be in the ONposition for power windows to operate.
Each door has a power window switch
that controls that door's window. The
driver has a power window lock switch
which can block the operation of pas-
senger windows. The driver’s door has
a master power window switch that
controls all the windows in the vehicle.
The power windows can be operated for approximately 30 seconds after the igni-
tion key is removed or turned to the ACC
or LOCK position. However, if the front
doors open, the power windows cannot
be operated within the 30 second period
(if equipped : remote keyless entry sys-
tem).
✽ ✽ NOTICE
• In cold and wet climates, power win-
dows my not work properly due to
freezing conditions.
• While driving with the rear windows down or with the sunroof (if
equipped) opened (or partially
opened), your vehicle may demon-
strate a wind buffeting or pulsation
noise. This noise is normal and can be
reduced or eliminated by taking the
following actions. If the noise occurs
with one or both of the rear windows
down, partially lower both front win-
dows approximately one inch. If you
experience the noise with the sunroof
open, slightly close the sunroof.
Window opening and closing
To open or close a window, press down
or pull up the front portion of the corre-
sponding switch to the first detent posi-
tion (5).

Do not install any accessories in
the area of windows. It may impact
jam protection.

1. Pull the release lever to unlatch thehood. The hood should pop open
slightly. 2. Go to the front of the vehicle, raise the
hood slightly, push the secondary
latch (1) to the left and lift the hood (2). 3. Pull out the support rod from the
engine room (3).
4. Hold the hood open with the support rod (4).

Open the hood after turning off the
engine on a flat surface, shifting
the shift lever to the P(Park) posi-
tion for automatic transaxle and to

st(First) gear or R(Reverse) for
manual transaxle, and setting the

wrapped in rubber. The rubber will
help prevent you from being burned
by hot metal when the engine is

Closing the hood
1. Before closing the hood, check the fol-lowing:

from the engine compartment.
2. Return the support rod to its clip to prevent it from rattling.
3. Lower the hood halfway (lifted approx- imately 30cm from the closed posi-
tion) and push down to securely lock
in place. Then double check to be sure
the hood is secure.
Opening the fuel filler lid
The fuel filler lid must be opened from
inside the vehicle by pulling the fuel filler
lid opener switch.
✽ ✽NOTICE
If the fuel filler lid will not open because
ice has formed around it, tap lightly or
push on the lid to break the ice and
release the lid. Do not pry on the lid. If
necessary, spray around the lid with an
approved de-icer fluid (do not use radi-
ator anti-freeze) or move the vehicle to a
warm place and allow the ice to melt.
WARNING
Before closing the hood, ensure
that all obstructions are removed
from the hood opening. Closing
the hood with an obstruction
present in the hood opening may
result in property damage or
severe personal injury.
Do not leave gloves, rags or any other combustible material in the
engine compartment. Doing so
may cause a heat-induced fire.
Always double check to be sure that the hood is firmly latched
before driving away. Check there
is no hood open warning light or
message displayed on the instru-
ment cluster. If the hood is not
latched while the vehicle is mov-
ing, the chime will sound to warn
the driver the hood is not fully
latched. Driving with the hood
opened may cause a total loss of
visibility, which might result in an
accident.
Do not move the vehicle with the hood in the raised position, as
vision is obstructed and the hood
could fall or be damaged.

1. Stop the engine.
2. To open the fuel filler lid, pull the fuelfiller lid opener switch.
3. Pull the fuel filler lid (1) out to fully open.
4. To remove the cap, turn the fuel tank cap (2) counterclockwise.
5. Refuel as needed.
Closing the fuel filler lid
1. To install the cap, turn it clockwise until it clicks one time. This indicates
that the cap is securely tightened.
2. Close the fuel filler lid and push it in lightly making sure that it is securely
closed.

WARNING- Refueling
If pressurized fuel sprays out, itcan cover your clothes or skin
and thus subject you to the risk
of fire and burns. Always remove
the fuel cap carefully and slowly.
If the cap is venting fuel or if you
hear a hissing sound, wait until
the condition stops before com-
pletely removing the cap.
Do not "top off" after the nozzle automatically shuts off when
refueling.
Tighten the cap until it clicks one time, otherwise the fuel cap open
warning light will illuminate.

Always check that the fuel cap is installed securely to prevent fuel
spillage in the event of an acci-
dent.
WARNING - Refueling dan-

Automotive fuels are flammable
materials. When refueling, please
note the following guidelines care-
fully. Failure to follow these guide-
lines may result in severe personal
injury, severe burns or death by fire
or explosion.
Read and follow all warningsposted at the gas station facility.
Before refueling, note the loca- tion of the Emergency Gasoline
Shut-Off, if available, at the gas
station facility.
Before touching the fuel nozzle, you should eliminate potentially
dangerous static electricity dis-
charge by touching another metal
part of the vehicle, a safe dis-
tance away from the fuel filler
neck, nozzle, or other gas source.

The power steering uses a motor to
assist you in steering the vehicle. If the
engine is off or if the power steering sys-
tem becomes inoperative, the vehicle
may still be steered, but it will require
increased steering effort.
The motor driven power steering is con-
trolled by a power steering control unit
which senses the steering wheel torque
and vehicle speed to command the
motor.
The steering assist increases as the
vehicle’s speed increases and as the
vehicle’s speed decreases for optimum
steering assist decreases.
Should you notice any change in the
effort required to steer during normal
vehicle operation, have the power steer-
ing checked by an authorized HYUNDAI
dealer.
CAUTION
If the sunroof is not reset when the
vehicle battery is disconnected ordischarged, or related fuse isblown, the sunroof may operateimproperly.
STEERING WHEEL
CAUTION
If the Electric Power Steering System does not operate normal-ly, the warning light will illuminate on the instrument cluster. Thesteering wheel may become diffi-cult to control or operate abnor- mally. Take your vehicle to anauthorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the vehicle checked as soonas possible.
When you operate the steering wheel in low temperature, abnor-mal noise could occur. If tempera- ture rises, the noise will disap-pear. This is a normal condition.
When the vehicle is stationary, if you turn the steering wheel all theway to the left or right continu-ously, the steering wheel becomes heavier from the end.This is normal and not system malfunction. As time passes, thesteering wheel will return to its normal condition.

The following symptoms may occur dur-
ing normal vehicle operation:
• The EPS warning light does not illu-
minate.
• The steering gets heavy immediately after turning the ignition switch on.
This happens as the system performs
the EPS system diagnostics. When the
diagnostics is completed, the steering
wheel will return to its normal condi-
tion.
• A click noise may be heard from the EPS relay after the ignition switch is
turned to the ON or LOCK (OFF)
position.
• A motor noise may be heard when the vehicle is at a stop or at a low driving
speed.
• If the Electric Power Steering System does not operate normally, the warning
light will illuminate on the instrument
cluster. The steering wheel may become
difficult to operate due to increasing
steering effort. Take your vehicle to an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have
the vehicle checked as soon as possible.
• When you operate the steering wheel in low temperature, abnormal noise
could occur. If temperature rises, the
noise will disappear. This is a normal

• When the charging system warning
light comes on or the voltage is low
(When the alternator (or battery) does
not operate normally or it malfunc-
tions), the steering wheel may get
heavy and become difficult to operate
due to increased steering effort.
Tilt and telescopic steering
(if equipped)
Tilt and telescopic steering allows you to
adjust the steering wheel before you
drive. You can also raise it to give your
legs more room when you exit and enter
the vehicle.
The steering wheel should be positioned
so that it is comfortable for you to drive,
while permitting you to see the instru-
ment panel warning lights and gauges. To change the steering wheel angle and
height, pull down the lock release lever
(1), adjust the steering wheel to the
desired angle (2) and height (3), then pull
up the lock-release lever to lock the
steering wheel in place. Be sure to adjust
the steering wheel to the desired position

WARNING
Never adjust the steering wheel
while driving. You may lose steer-
ing control and cause severe per-
sonal injury, death or accidents.
After adjusting, push the steering wheel both up and down to be
certain it is locked in position.

Horn
To sound the horn, press the horn sym-
bol on your steering wheel.
Check the horn regularly to be sure it
operates properly.
✽ ✽NOTICE
To sound the horn, press the area indi-
cated by the horn symbol on your steer-
ing wheel (see illustration). The horn will
operate only when this area is pressed.
Inside rearview mirror
Adjust the rearview mirror so that the
center view through the rear window is
seen. Make this adjustment before you
start driving.
Day/night rearview mirror
Make this adjustment before you start
driving and while the day/night lever is in
the day position.
Pull the day/night lever toward you to
reduce glare from the headlights of the
vehicles behind you during night driving.
Remember that you lose some rearview
clarity in the night position.

WARNING - Rear visibility
Do not place objects in the rear
seat or cargo area which would
interfere with your vision through

When the door is open, or if the engine is
not started within 1 minute, the tachometer
pointer may move slightly in ON position
with the engine OFF. This movement is
normal and will not affect the accuracy of
the tachometer once the engine is running.
Engine temperature gauge
This gauge shows the temperature of the
engine coolant when the ignition switch
is ON.
Do not continue driving with an overheat-
ed engine. If your vehicle overheats, refer
to "If the engine overheats" in section 6.

CAUTION
If the gauge moves beyond the nor-mal range area toward the "H" posi-tion, it indicates overheating thatmay damage the engine.
CAUTION
Do not operate the engine withinthe tachometer's RED ZONE.
This may cause severe engine dam-age.
WARNING
Never remove the radiator cap
when the engine is hot. The engine
coolant is under pressure and
could cause severe burns. Wait
until the engine is cool before
adding coolant to the reservoir.
