B340B01A-AAT Lane Change Signal To indicate a lane change, move the lever up or down to a point where it begins flashing.The lever will automatically return to the centerposition when released.
B340A01A-AAT COMBINATION TURN SIGNAL, HEADLIGHT AND HIGH-BEAM SWITCH Turn Signal Operation Pulling down on the lever causes the turn signals on the left side of the car to blink. Pushing upwardon the lever causes the turn signals on the rightside of the car to blink. As the turn is completed,the lever will automatically return to the centerposition and turn off the turn signals at the sametime. If either turn signal indicator light blinksmore rapidly than usual, goes on but does notblink, or does not go on at all, there is a malfunc-tion in the system. Check for a burned-out fuse orbulb or see your Hyundai dealer.

B310A01A-GAT ODOMETERThe odometer records the total driving distance in kilometers or miles, and is useful for keeping arecord for maintenance intervals. NOTE: Any alteration of the odometer may void yourwarranty coverage. B320A01A-GAT TRIP ODOMETER The trip odometer may be used to conveniently record trip distances. Push the reset knob to setthe counter to zero. B340C01A-AAT Headlight Switch To operate the headlights, turn the barrel on the end of the multi-function switch. The first positionturns on the parking lights, sidelights, tail lightsand instrument panel lights. The second positionturns on the headlights.

B340F01A-GAT Daytime Running Lights (If Installed) Your Hyundai is equipped with daytime running lights. The daytime running lights are used toimprove visibility for oncoming traffic. Your vehi-cle daytime running lights are designed to remainon continuously when the engine is operatingeven though the headlight switch is in the "OFF"position. However, the daytime running lights willbe off while the parking brake is applied.

WARNING: ENGINE EXHAUST CAN BE DANGEROUS!
Engine exhaust fumes can be extremely dangerous. If, at any time, you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, open the windows immediately. o Do not inhale exhaust fumes. Exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that can cause unconsciousness and death by asphyxiation. o Be sure the exhaust system does not leak. The exhaust system should be checked whenever the vehicle is raised to change the oil or for any other purpose. If you hear a change in the sound of the exhaust or if you drive over something that strikes the underneath side of the car, have theexhaust system checked as soon as possible by your Hyundai dealer. o Do not run the engine in an enclosed area. Letting the engine idle in your garage, even with the garage door open, is a hazardous practice. Never run the engine in your garage any longer than it takes to start the engine and back the car out. o Avoid idling the engine for prolonged periods with people inside the car. If it is necessary to idle the engine for a prolonged period with people inside the car, be sure to do so only in an open area with the air intake set at "Fresh" and the fan operating at one of the higher speeds so fresh air is drawn into the interior.If you must drive with the tail gate open because you are carrying objects that make this necessary: 1. Close all windows. 2. Open side vents.3. Set the air intake control at "Fresh", the air flow control at "Floor" or "Face" and the fan at one of the higher speeds. To assure proper operation of the ventilation system, be sure the ventilation air intakes located just in front of the windshie ld
are kept clear of snow, ice, leaves or other obstructions.

STARTING
Normal starting with either a cold or warm
engine is obtained without pumping or depress-
ing the accelerator pedal. Simply turn the key tothe "START" position and release when theengine starts. After the engine has started,allow the engine to run for 10 to 20 secondsprior to placing the vehicle in gear. The starter should not be operated for more
than 15 seconds at a time. Wait 15-30 secondsbetween starting attempts to protect the starterfrom overheating.
WARNING: Never run the engine in a closed or poorly
ventilated area any longer than is needed to move your car in or out of the area. The
carbon monoxide gas emitted is odorlessand can cause serious injury or death. C050B02X-GAT

1. Insert key, and fasten the seat belt.
2. Depress the clutch pedal fully (manual transaxle) and place the gearshift lever in neutral (manual transaxle) or the selectorlever (automatic transaxle) in "P" (park)position.
3. After turning the ignition key to the "ON" position, make certain all warning lights andgauges are functioning properly before start-
ing the engine.
WARNING: Be sure that the clutch is fully depressed
when starting a manual transaxle vehicle. Otherwise, there is the potential to cause
damage to the vehicle or injury to someone
inside or outside the vehicle as a result ofthe forward or backward movement of the
vehicle that will occur if the clutch is notdepressed when the vehicle is started.
4. Turn the ignition key to the "Start" position and release it when the engine starts. C070A04X-GAT

Your Hyundai's manual transaxle has a con-
ventional shift pattern. This shift pattern is also imprinted on the shift knob. The transaxle isfully synchronized in all forward gears so shift-
ing to either a higher or a lower gear is easilyaccomplished.
CAUTION:
o Do not attempt to engage reverse gear when the car is moving.
o To avoid damaging the selector mecha- nism, do not use the gear shift lever as ahand rest. Release the lever immediatelythe shift is completed.
o To avoid premature clutch wear, do not use the clutch pedal as a foot rest, anddo not hold the vehicle on a gradientusing the clutch.
