WARNING: ENGINE EXHAUST CAN BE DANGEROUS!
Engine exhaust fumes can be extremely dangerous. If, at any time, you smell exhaust fumes inside the vehicle, open the windows immediately. o Do not inhale exhaust fumes. Exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that can cause unconsciousness and death by asphyxiation. o Be sure the exhaust system does not leak. The exhaust system should be checked whenever the vehicle is raised to change the oil or for any other purpose.If you hear a change in the sound of the exhaust or if you drive over something that strikes the underneath side of the car, have the exhaust system checked as soon as possible by your Hyundai dealer. o Do not run the engine in an enclosed area. Letting the engine idle in your garage, even with the garage door open, is a hazardous practice. Never run theengine in your garage any longer than it takes to start the engine and back the car out. o Avoid idling the engine for prolonged periods with people inside the car. If it is necessary to idle the engine for a prolonged period with people inside the car, be sure to do so only in an open area with the air intake set at "Fresh" and the fan operating at one of the higher speeds so fresh air is drawn into the interior. If you must drive with the tail gate open because you are carrying objects that make this necessary: 1. Close all windows. 2. Open side vents. 3. Set the air intake control at "Fresh", the air flow control at "Floor" or "Face" and the fan at one of the higher speeds.
To assure proper operation of the ventilation system, be sure the ventilation air intakes located just in front ofthe windshield are kept clear of snow, ice, leaves or other obstructions.

C160B01A-GAT Snowy or Icy Conditions To drive your vehicle in deep snow, it may be necessary to use snow tires orto install tire chains on your tires. If snow tires are needed, it is necessary to select tires equivalent in size andtype to the original equipment tires. Failure to do so may adversely affect the safety and handling of your car.Speeding, rapid acceleration, sudden brake applications, and sharp turns are potentially very hazardous prac-tices. During deceleration, use engine braking to the fullest extent. Sudden brake applications on snowy or icyroads may cause skids to occur. You need to keep sufficient distance be- tween the vehicle in front and yourvehicle. Also, apply the brake gently. It should be noted that installing tire chains on the tire will provide a greaterdriving force, but will not prevent side skids. NOTE: Tire chains are not legal in all prov- inces. Check province laws before fitting tire chains. C160C01A-AAT Use High Quality Ethylene Gly- col Coolant Your Hyundai is delivered with high quality ethylene glycol coolant in thecooling system. It is the only type of coolant that should be used because it helps prevent corrosion in the coolingsystem, lubricates the water pump and prevents freezing. Be sure to replace or replenish your coolant in accor-dance with the maintenance schedule in Section 5. Before winter, have your coolant tested to assure that its freez-ing point is sufficient for the tempera- tures anticipated during the winter.
C160D01A-AAT Check Battery and Cables Winter puts additional burdens on the battery system. Visually inspect thebattery and cables as described in Section 6. The level of charge in your battery can be checkedby your Hyundai dealer or a service station. C160E01A-AAT Change to "Winter Weight" Oil if Necessary In some climates it is recommended that a lower viscosity "winter weight" oil be used during cold weather. SeeSection 9 for recommendations. If you aren't sure what weight oil you should use, consult your Hyundai dealer.

o Drive Belts Inspect all drive belts for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear or oilsaturation and replace if necessary. Drive belts should be checked periodi- cally for proper tension and adjustedas necessary. F060C01A-AAT
o Fuel Filter
A clogged filter can limit the speed at
which the vehicle may be driven, dam- age the emission system and cause hard starting. If an excessive amountof foreign matter accumulates in the fuel tank, the filter may require re- placement more frequently. After installing a new filter, run the
engine for several minutes, and checkfor leaks at the connections. Fuel fil- ters should be installed by trained technicians.

o Fuel Lines, Fuel Hoses and
Connections
Check the fuel lines, fuel hoses and
connections for leakage and damage. Have a trained technician replace any damaged or leaking parts immediately. F060E01A-AAT
o Timing Belt
Inspect all parts related to the timing
belt for damage and deformation. Re- place any damaged parts immediately.

o Vapor Hose and Fuel Filler cap
The vapor hose and fuel filler cap

o Crankcase Ventilation Hoses
Inspect the surface of hoses for evi- dence of heat and/or mechanical dam- age. Hard and brittle rubber, cracking, tears, cuts, abrasions, and excessiveswelling indicate deterioration. Particu- lar attention should be paid to examin- ing those hose surfaces nearest tohigh heat sources, such as the ex- haust manifold. Inspect the hose routing to assure that the hoses do not come in contact with any heat source, sharp edges or mov-ing component which might cause heat damage or mechanical wear. Inspect all hose connections, such as clampsand couplings, to make sure they are secure, and that no leaks are present. Hoses should be replaced immedi-ately if there is any evidence of dete- rioration or damage. F060H01A-AAT
o Air Cleaner Filter
A Genuine Hyundai air cleaner filter is
recommended when the filter is re-placed.

o Spark Plugs
Make sure to install new spark plugs
of the correct heat range.

o Valve Clearance
Inspect excessive valve noise and/or
engine vibration and adjust if neces- sary. A qualified technician should perform the operation. F070C01A-AAT o Coolant The coolant should be changed at the intervals specified in the mainte-nance schedule. F070D01A-AAT o Manual Transaxle Oil Inspect the manual transaxle oil ac- cording to the maintenance schedule. NOTE: If the oil level is low, check for possible leaks before adding oil. o The engine oil consumption is strongly effected by the viscosity and quality of oil, engine rpm and driving condition etc. More engine oil may be consumed under severedriving conditions such as high speeds, frequent acceleration and deceleration, compared to normaldriving condition. G050B01A-AAT Recommended Engine Coolant Use a high quality ethylene-glycol coolant in a 50/50 mix with water. The engine coolant should be compatible with aluminum engine parts. Addi-tional corrosion inhibitors or additives should not be used. The cooling sys- tem must be maintained with the cor-rect concentration and type of engine coolant to prevent freezing and corro- sion. Never allow the concentration ofantifreeze to exceed the 60% level or go below the 35% level, or damage to the cooling system may result. Forproper concentration when adding or replacing the engine coolant, refer to the following table.

CHECKING AND CHANGING THE ENGINE COOLANT

WARNING:
Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. When the engineis hot, the engine coolant is under pressure and may erupt through the opening if the cap is removed. Youcould be seriously burned if you do not observe this precaution. Do not remove the radiator cap until theradiator is cool to the touch. NOTE: It is recommended that the engine
coolant should be changed by an authorized Hyundai dealer.

Adjustment After Headlight As- sembly Replacement
If the vehicle has had front body repair and the headlight assembly has been replaced, the headlight aiming should be checked using an aiming screen asshown in the illustration. Turn on the headlight switch.
1. Adjust headlights so that main axis of light is parallel to center line of the body and is aligned with point"P" shown in the illustration.
2. Dotted lines in the illustration show the center of headlights. SPECIFICATION:

REPLACEMENT OF LIGHT BULBS

bulb, be sure the switch is turned to the "OFF" position.
The next paragraph shows how to
reach the light bulbs so they may bechanged. Be sure to replace the burned- out bulb with one of the same number and wattage rating.
See page 6-36 for the wattage descrip-
tions.
CAUTION:
o Keep the lamps out of contact with petroleum products, such asoil, gasoline, etc.
o If you don't have necessary tools, the correct bulbs and the exper- tise, consult your authorized Hyundai dealer.

AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUIDCHECKING THE TRANSAXLE OIL (MANUAL)

Transaxle lubricant in the manual transaxle should be checked at those intervals specified in the vehicle main-tenance schedule in Section 5.
!WARNING:
It is always better to check the
transaxle oil level when the engine is cool or cold. If the engine is hot, you should exercise great caution to avoid burning yourself on hotengine or exhaust parts.
NOTE: It is recommended that the manual
transaxle fluid should be checked by a Hyundai authorised repairer. G110A01MC-EAT The automatic transaxle fluid level should be checked and changed at those intervals prescribed in the main-tenance schedule. It is of paramount importance that only the specified fluid is used when replenishing or changingthe fluid. The use of other fluids may irreparably damage the transaxle and invalidate the manufacturers warranty.In addition the ingress of dirt or lint may prevent correct functioning of the transaxle and care must be exercisedto prevent the ingress of such matter.
