o Brake fluid & Clutch fluid
Check brake fluid level in the brake
fluid reservoir. The level should be between "MIN" and "MAX" marks on the side of the reservoir. Use onlyhydraulic brake fluid conforming to DOT 3 or DOT 4.

o Rear brake drums and linings/
parking brake
Check the rear brake drums and lin-
ings for scoring, burning, leaking fluid,broken parts, and excessive wear. In- spect the parking brake system in-cluding the parking brake lever and cables. For detailed service proce- dures, refer to the Shop Manual. 6ZF070J1-A
o Brake pads, calipers and ro-
tors
Check the pads for excessive wear,
discs for run out and wear, and cali- pers for fluid leakage.

o Exhaust pipe and silencer
Visually inspect the exhaust pipes,
silencer and hangers for cracks, dete-rioration, or damage. Start the engine and listen carefully for any exhaustgas leakage. Tighten connections or replace parts as necessary.

o Suspension mounting bolts
Check the suspension connections for
looseness or damage. Retighten to the specified torque.

o Automatic Transaxle Fluid
The fluid level should be in the "HOT"range of the dipstick, after the engine and transaxle are at normal operating temperature. Check the automatictransaxle fluid level with the engine running and the transaxle in neutral, with the parking brake properly ap-plied. Use Hyundai Genuine ATF SP- III, DIAMOND ATF SP-III, SK ATF SP-III or other brands approved byHyundai Motor Co., when adding or changing fluid. Refer to the chapter 6.

With the vehicle stopped and engine off, check for excessive freeplay in the steering wheel. Check the linkage for bends or dam- age. Check the dust boots and ball joints for deterioration, cracks, or dam- age. Replace any damaged parts. 6ZF070N1-A
o Power steering pump,
belt and hoses
Check the power steering pump and hoses for leakage and damage. Re- place any damaged or leaking partsimmediately. Inspect the power steer- ing belt for evidence of cuts, cracks, excessive wear, oil contamination andproper tension. Replace or adjust it if necessary. 6ZF070P1-A
o Drive shafts and boots
Check the drive shafts, boots and
clamps for cracks, deterioration, ordamage. Replace any damaged parts and, if necessary, repack the grease.

connections for leakage and damage. Check air conditioning performance according to the relevant shop manualif necessary.

o Fluid leakage.

This section gives instructions only for the maintenanceitems that are easy to perform.Several procedures should be done byHyundai authorised repairer. NOTE: Improper owner maintenance dur- ing the warranty period may affectwarranty coverage.
WARNING:
o Performing maintenance work on a vehicle can be dangerous. You can be seriously injured whilst performing some maintenanceprocedures. If you lack sufficient knowledge and experience or the proper tools and equipment to dothe work, have it done by Hyundai authorised repairer.
o Working under the bonnet with the engine running is dangerous. It becomes even more dangerouswhen you wear jewellery or loose clothing. These can become en- tangled in moving parts and re-sult in injury. Therefore, if you must run the engine whilst work- ing under the bonnet, make cer-tain that you remove all jewellery (especially rings, bracelets, watches, and necklaces) and allneckties, scarves, and similar loose clothing before getting near the engine or cooling fans.

o SAE 5W-20 (5W-30), ILSAC GF-3 engine oil is preferred regardless of regional option and engine variation.
o If SAE 5W-20, ILSAC GF-3 engine oil is not available, secondaryrecommended engine oil for cor- responding temperature rangecan be used.ENGINE OIL
SG030A1-E The correct engine oil level is of para- mount importance. An excessively high or low oil level may result inirreparable damage being sustained by the engine. The engine oil level must be checked on a daily basis orwhenever the vehicle is refuelled, whichever occurs sooner. In addition, it is imperative that only an approved grade and specification of oil is used to avoid the possibility of serious engine damage and prema-ture wear. The use of "budget price" oil is a false economy that must be avoided if the maximum reliability anduseful life is to be obtained from the vehicle. G030B02O-EAT
Recommended Oil
The engine oil quality should meet the
following classification.
API SJ, SL or ABOVE, ILSAC GF-3 or ABOVE The oil viscosity should be selected
according to the operating environ- ment of the engine by means of thetable shown above. The engine oil recommendations are complete in themselves and the use of additivesis neither required nor recommended. The use of engine oil additives may result in invalidation of the vehiclewarranty.

Engine Oil Level
The engine oil level should be checked with the engine at normal operatingtemperature and the vehicle parked upon level ground. Prior to checking the level, the vehicle should be allowed to stand for several minutes after the engine has been switched off to allow the oil to drainback to the sump.Withdraw the dipstick and wipe it witha clean rag. Replace the dipstick fully and withdraw again when the oil level may be read from the dipstick.

2.7LNormal oil level is indicated when the oil is present between the two markson the dipstick. It is not necessary to add oil if the level is above the lower mark and in any case, oil must not beadded to the degree that the level exceeds the upper mark. Replace the dipstick fully after checking the level.

SG030D2-E Engine Oil Replenishment If the indicated oil level is at or below the lower mark of the dipstick, oilshould be added until the level is at or below the upper mark. To add oil to the engine, remove the filler cap by rotating in an counter- clockwise direction and pour engine oil into the engine. Before checkingthe level again, allow several minutes for the oil to drain into the sump. Replace the oil filler cap rotating it ina clockwise direction until tight.The quantity of oil required to raisethe level from the minimum to maxi- mum level is approximately 1 litre. 1.6L/2.0L

o The engine oil consumption isstrongly effected by the viscosity and quality of oil, engine rpm and driving condition etc. More engine oil may be consumed under severe driving conditions such as high speeds, frequent acceleration and deceleration,compared to normal driving.

Engine oil has the primary function of
lubricating and cooling the inside of the engine. Engine oil consumption
It is normal that an engine should
consume some engine oil in the course of normal driving. The cause of oil consumption in a normal engine are asfollows;
o Engine oil is used to lubricate pis- tons, piston rings and cylinders. A thin film of oil is left on the cylinder wall when a piston moves downwards in the cylinder. High negative pressure generated dur-ing engine operation sucks some of the oil into the combustion cham- ber.This oil with some oil of the cylin-der wall is burned by the high tem-perature combustion gases during the combustion process.
