A vehicle’s electrical system is protected
from electrical overload damage by
fuses.
This vehicle has 2 (or 3) fuse panels, one
located in the driver's side panel bolster,
the other in the engine compartment
near the battery.
If any of your vehicle’s lights, acces-
sories, or controls do not work, check the
appropriate circuit fuse. If a fuse has
blown, the element inside the fuse will be
melted or broken.
If the electrical system does not work,
first check the driver's side fuse panel.
Before replacing a blown fuse, turn the
engine and all switches off, and then dis-
connect the negative battery cable.
Always replace a blown fuse with one of
the same rating.
If the replacement fuse blows, this indi-
cates an electrical problem. Avoid using
the system involved and immediately
consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Information
Four kinds of fuses are used : blade type
for lower amperage rating, cartridge type/
Multi fuse/Battery fuse terminal for high-
er amperage ratings. Do not use a screwdriver or any other
metal object to remove fuses because
it may cause a short circuit and dam-
age the system.

NEVER replace a fuse with any-
thing but another fuse of the same
rating.
A higher capacity fuse could
cause damage and possibly
cause a fire.
Do not install a wire or aluminum
foil instead of the proper fuse -
even as a temporary repair. It may
cause extensive wiring damage

Instrument Panel Fuse
Replacement
1. Turn the engine off.
2. Turn all other switches OFF.
3. Open the fuse panel cover.
4. Refer to the label on the inside of thefuse panel cover to locate the sus-
pected fuse location. 5. Pull the suspected fuse straight out.
Use the removal tool provided in the
engine compartment fuse panel.
6. Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown. Spare fuses are provided in
the instrument panel fuse panels (or in
the engine compartment fuse panel).
7. Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips.
If it fits loosely, consult an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer. In an emergency, if you do not have a
spare fuse, use a fuse of the same rating
from a circuit you may not need for oper-
ating the vehicle.
If the headlamps or other electrical com-
ponents do not work and the fuses are
OK, check the fuse panel in the engine
compartment. If a fuse is blown, it must
be replaced with the same rating.

Fuse switch
Always, place the fuse switch to the ON
position.
If you move the switch to the OFF posi-
tion, some items such as the audio sys-
tem and digital clock must be reset and
the smart key may not work properly.
Information
If the fuse switch is OFF, the above mes-
sage will appear.
Always place the fuse switch in theON position while driving the vehi-
cle.
Do not move the fuse switch repeat- edly. The fuse switch may be dam-
aged.
Engine Compartment Panel
Fuse Replacement
1. Turn the engine off.
2. Turn all other switches OFF.
3. Remove the fuse panel cover by pressing the tap and pulling up.
4. Check the removed fuse; replace it if it is blown. To remove or insert the fuse,
use the fuse puller in the engine com-
partment fuse panel.
5. Push in a new fuse of the same rating, and make sure it fits tightly in the clips.
If it fits loosely, consult an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.

Main fuse
If the main fuse is blown, it must be
removed as follows:
1. Turn off the engine.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the fuse panel cover bypressing the tab and pulling it up.
4. Remove the nuts shown in the picture above.
5. Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
6. Reinstall in the reverse order of removal.
Information
If the main fuse is blown, consult an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Multi fuse
If the multi fuse is blown, it must be
removed as follows:
1. Turn off the engine.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the fuse panel cover bypressing the tab and pulling it up.
4. Remove the nuts shown in the picture above.
5. Replace the fuse with a new one of the same rating.
6. Reinstall in the reverse order of removal.
Information
If the multi fuse is blown, consult an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

After checking the fuse box in the
engine compartment securely
close the fuse box cover inside the
engine compartment, until it clicks.
If the fuse box is not closed proper-
ly, water may leak in side, possibly
causing a malfunction with the
electrical system.

Blade type fuse
Before inspecting a fuse, you should turn
OFF the engine as well as the other elec-
tric system switches.
If a fuse is blown out, remove the blown-
out fuse and install a new fuse of the
same capacity by using the fuse puller,
which is prepared inside the fuse box in
the engine compartment. A new fuse
may be prepared along with the fuse
puller. However, if not, you may tem-
porarily select/use a fuse of the other
systems, which do not affect the vehicle
operation, such as the audio system.
Cartridge type fuse
Before inspecting a fuse, you should turn
OFF the engine as well as the other elec-
tric system switches.
If a fuse is blown out, remove the blown-
out fuse and install a new fuse of the
same capacity. Pay extreme caution not
to damage the blown-out fuse while
removing it.

Engine compartment fuse panel
Inside the fuse/relay box cover, you can
find the fuse/relay label describing fuse/
relay name and capacity.
Information
Not all fuse panel descriptions in this man-
ual may be applicable to your vehicle; the
information is accurate at the time of
printing. When you inspect the fuse panel
in your vehicle, refer to the fuse panel
label.

Maintenance Water washing in the engine com-partment including high pressure
water washing may cause the failure
of electrical circuits located in the
engine compartment.
Never allow water or other liquids to come in contact with electrical/elec-
tronic components inside the vehi-
cle as this may damage them.
Waxing
A good coat of wax provides a barrier
between your paint and environmental
contamination.
Keeping a good coat of wax on your vehi-
cle will help protect it.
Wax the vehicle when water will no
longer bead on the paint.
Always wash and dry the vehicle before
waxing. Use a good quality liquid or
paste wax, and follow the manufacturer’s
instructions. Wax all metal trim to protect
it and to maintain its luster.
Removing oil, tar, and similar materials
with a spot remover will usually strip the
wax from the finish. Be sure to re-wax
these areas even if the rest of the vehicle
does not yet need waxing. Wiping dust or dirt off the body with
a dry cloth will scratch the finish.
Do not use steel wool, abrasive cleaners, or strong detergents con-
taining highly alkaline or caustic
agents on chrome-plated or
anodized aluminum parts. This may
result in damage to the protective
coating and cause discoloration or
paint deterioration.
Repairing your vehicle’s finish
Deep scratches or stone chips in the
painted surface must be repaired
promptly. Exposed metal will quickly rust
and may develop into a major repair
expense.
If your vehicle is damaged and
requires any metal repair or replace-
ment, be sure the body shop applies
anti-corrosion materials to the parts
repaired or replaced.

Canister
Fuel vapors generated inside the fuel
tank are absorbed and stored in the
onboard canister. When the engine is
running, the fuel vapors absorbed in the
canister are drawn into the surge tank
through the purge control solenoid valve.
Purge Control Solenoid Valve(PCSV)
The purge control solenoid valve is con-
trolled by the Engine Control Module
(ECM); when the engine coolant temper-
ature is low during idling, the PCSV clos-
es so that evaporated fuel is not taken
into the engine. After the engine warms-
up during ordinary driving, the PCSV
opens to introduce evaporated fuel to the
engine.
3. Exhaust Emission Control System
The Exhaust Emission Control System is
a highly effective system which controls
exhaust emissions while maintaining
good vehicle performance.
When the engine starts or fails to start,
excessive attempts to restart the engine
may cause damage to the emission sys-
tem.
Engine exhaust (carbon monox-
ide) precautions
Carbon monoxide can be present with
other exhaust fumes. If you smell
exhaust fumes of any kind in your vehi-
cle, drive with all the windows fully
open. Have your vehicle checked and
repaired immediately.
Engine exhaust gases contain car-
bon monoxide (CO). Though color-
less and odorless, it is dangerous
and could be lethal if inhaled.
Follow the instructions on this
page to avoid CO poisoning.

Do not operate the engine in confinedor closed areas (such as garages) any
more than what is necessary to move
the vehicle in or out of the area.
When the vehicle is stopped in an open area for more than a short time
with the engine running, adjust the
ventilation system (as needed) to draw
outside air into the vehicle.
Never sit in a parked or stopped vehi- cle for any extended time with the
engine running.
When the engine stalls or fails to start, excessive attempts to restart the
engine may cause damage to the
emission control system.Operating precautions for cat-alytic converters (if equipped)
Your vehicle is equipped with a catalytic
converter emission control device.
To prevent damage to the catalytic con-
verter and to your vehicle, take the fol-
lowing precautions: The exhaust system and catalytic
converter are very hot during and
immediately after the engine has
been running. To avoid SERIOUS
INJURY or DEATH:
Do not park, idle, or drive the
vehicle over or near flammable
objects, such as grass, vegeta-
tion, paper, leaves, etc. A hot
exhaust system can ignite flam-
mable items under your vehicle.
Keep away from the exhaust sys-
tem and catalytic converter or
you may get burned.
Also, Do not remove the heat sink
around the exhaust system, do
not seal the bottom of the vehi-
cle, and do not coat the vehicle
for corrosion control. It may pres-
ent a fire risk under certain con-
ditions.
WARNING Use only UNLEADED FUEL for
gasoline engines.
Do not operate the vehicle when
there are signs of engine mal-
function, such as misfire or a
noticeable loss of performance.
Do not misuse or abuse the
engine. Examples of misuse are
coasting with the engine off and
descending steep grades in gear
with the engine off.
Do not operate the engine at high
idle speed for extended periods
(5 minutes or more).
Do not modify or tamper with any
part of the engine or emission
control system. All inspections
and adjustments must be made
by an authorized HYUNDAI deal-
er.
Avoid driving with extremely low
fuel level. If you run out of gaso-
line, it could cause the engine to
misfire and result in excessive
loading of the catalytic converter.
