B260B01S-GAT SRS (Airbag) Service Reminder Indicator (SRI)(If installed)
The SRS service reminder indicator (SRI) comes on and flashes for about 6 seconds after the ignition key isturned to the "ON" position or after the engine is started, after which it will go out. This light also comes on when the SRS is not working properly. If the SRI doesnot come on, or continuously remains on after flashing for about 6 seconds when you turned the ignition key to the"ON" position or started the engine, or if it comes on while driving, have the SRS inspected by an authorizedHyundai Dealer.
C130N02Y-GAT Anti-lock Brake Warning
Light (If installed)
When the key is turned to the "ON" position, the ABS light will come onand then go off in a few seconds. If the ABS light remains on, comes on while driving, or does not come onwhen the key is turned to the "ON" position, this indicates that there may be a problem with the ABS.If this occurs, have your vehicle checked by your Hyundai dealer as soon as possible. The normal brakingsystem will still be operational, but without the assistance of the anti-lock brake system.C130I01P-GAT Overdrive/Off Indicator (If installed)
When the overdrive switch is turned on and 4th gear is engaged, the overdriveoff indicator will go out. This amber indicator will be illuminated when the overdrive switch is turned off.(Automatic tranmission only)
C130F01P-GAT Turn-signal Indication Lamps-Green
These indication lamps blink on and off when a turn-signal lamp is blinking. Ifthe blinking is too short, the cause may be a faulty turn-signal lamp connection or a blown lamp bulb.
C130G01P-GAT High-beam Indication Lamp-Blue
This indication lamp illuminates when the high beams are on.
!WARNING:
If both the ABS SRI and Parking Brake/Brake fluid level warning lights remain "ON" or come on whiledriv ing, there may be a problem with
E.B.D (Electronic brake force distri-
bution). If this occurs, avoid suddenstops and have your vehicle checked by your Hyundai dealer as soon as possible.

Low Oil Pressure Warning Light CAUTION:
If the oil pressure warning light stays on while the engine is running, seri-ous engine damage may result. The oil pressure warning light comes on whenever there is insufficient oilpressure. In normal operation, it should come on when the ignition switch is turned on, then go outwhen the engine is started. If the oil pressure warning light stays on while the engine is running, there may bea serious malfunction. If this happens, stop the car as soon as it is safe to do so, turn off theengine and check the oil level. If the oil level is low, fill the engine oil to the proper level and start the engineagain. If the light stays on with the engine running, turn the engine off immediately. In any instance wherethe oil light stays on when the en- gine is running, the engine should be checked by an authorizedHyundai dealer before the car is driven again.

B260H03A-AAT Parking Brake/Low Brake Fluid Level Warning Light-Red If the parking brake is not applied, the warning light should come on when theignition switch is turned to "ON" or "START", then go out when the engine starts. If the light comes on at anyother time, you should slow the vehicle and bring it to a complete stop in a safe location off the roadway.The brake warning light indicates that the brake fluid level in the brake mas- ter cylinder is low and hydraulic brakefluid conforming to DOT 3 or DOT 4 specifications should be added. After adding fluid, if no other trouble is found,the car should be immediately and carefully driven to a Hyundai dealer for inspection. If further trouble is experi-enced, the vehicle should not be driven at all but taken to a dealer by a professional towing service or someother safe method.
WARNING:
If you suspect brake trouble, have your brakes checked by a Hyundaidealer as soon as possible. Driving your car with a problem in either the brake electrical system or brake hy-draulic system is dangerous, and could result in a serious injury or death. Warning Light Operation The parking brake/brake fluid level warning light should come on when the parking brake is applied and the igni- tion switch is turned to "ON" or"START". After the engine is started, the light should go out when the park- ing brake is released.

B350B01A-AAT Windshield Washer Operation To use the windshield washer, pull the wiper/washer lever toward the steer- ing wheel. When the washer lever isoperated, the wipers automatically make two passes across the wind- shield. The washer continues to oper-ate until the lever is released. NOTE:
o Do not operate the washer more
than 15 seconds at a time or when the fluid reservoir is empty.
o In icy or freezing weather, be
sure the wiper blades are notfrozen to the glass prior to oper- ating the wipers. HSRFL2116

NOTE:
o Before operating the wipers in cold weather, check to be sure that the wiper blades are not fro- zen to the windshield. Attempt-ing to operate the wipers while the blades are frozen to the wind- shield could cause the motor toburn out.
o If the wipers stop during opera-
tion because of ice or some otherobstruction on the windshield, the wiper motor could burn out even if the wiper switch is turnedoff. If this occurs, promptly stop the vehicle, turn off the ignition switch, and clean the windshieldto allow proper wiper operation.
o Do not use the wipers when the
windshield is dry:doing so couldscratch the windshield and wear the blades prematurely.
WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH
C180A02P-GAT The windshield wiper and washer switch can be operated with the igni- tion switch at the "ON" or "START"position. Move the switch to operate the windshield wipers or spray the washer fluid. Windshield wipers

B370A01A-AAT The hazard warning system should be used whenever you find it necessary to stop the car in a hazardous location.When you must make such an emer- gency stop, always pull off the road as far as possible.The hazard warning lights are turned on by pushing in the hazard switch. This causes all turn signal lights toblink. The hazard warning lights will operate even though the key is not in the ignition.To turn the hazard warning lights off, push the switch a second time. The rear window defroster is actuated in connection with the front window defroster. The window defroster is turned on by pushing in the switch. To turn thedefroster off, pushing in the switch a second time. The rear window de- froster automatically turns itself off af-ter about 20 minutes. To restart the defroster cycle, push in on the switch again after it has turned itself off. CAUTION:
Do not clean the inner side of thefront/rear window glass with anabrasive type of glass cleaner or use a scraper to remove the foreign deposits from the inner surface ofthe glass as this may cause dam- age to the defroster elements. NOTE: The engine must be running for the rear grid defroster to operate.

Your Hyundai's manual transmissionhas a conventional shift pattern. This shift pattern is imprinted on the shiftknob. The transmission is fully syn- chronized in all forward gears so shift- ing to either a higher or a lower gear iseasily accomplished.
D041A02P-GAT STARTING AND STOPPING THE ENGINE FOR TURBO CHARGEROR TURBO CHARGER INTER-COOLER (If installed)
(1) Do not race the engine or sudden
accelerate the engine immediately after start it. If the engine is cold,allow the engine to idle for several seconds before it is driven to en- sure sufficient lubrication of theturbo charger unit.
(2) After high speed or extended driv-
ing, requiring a heavy engine load,the engine should be allowed to idle, as shown in the chart below, before turning it off.This idle time will allow the turbo charger to cool prior to shutting the engine off.

NOTE:
o To shift into reverse, rest the le- ver in neutral for at least 3 sec- onds after your car is completelystopped. Then move the lever into the reverse position.
o During cold weather, shifting may be difficult until the transmis-sion lubricant has warmed up. This is normal and not harmful tothe transmission.
o If you've come to a complete stop
and it's hard to shift into 1st or"R", put the shift lever in "N" position and let up on the clutch. Press the clutch pedal back down,and then shift into 1st or "R" gear position.
o Do not use the shift lever as a handrest during driving, as thiscan result in premature wear of the transmission shift forks. CAUTION:
When downshifting from fifth gearto fourth gear, caution should be taken not to inadvertently press the gear lever sideways in such a man-ner that second gear is engaged. Such a drastic downshift may cause the engine speed to increase to thepoint that the tachometer will enter the red-zone. Such over-revving of the engine may possibly cause en-gine damage.

D050B01P-GAT Using the Clutch The clutch should be pressed all the way to the floor before shifting, then released slowly. Do not rest your footon the clutch pedal while driving. This can cause unnecessary wear. Do not partially engage the clutch tohold the vehicle on an incline. This causes unnecessary wear. Use the parking brake to hold thevehicle on an incline. Do not operate the clutch pedal rapidly and repeat- edly.

o Never take the vehicle out of gear
and coast down a hill. This is ex- tremely hazardous. Always leave the vehicle in gear.
o Don't "ride" the brakes. This can cause them to overheat and mal-function. Instead, when you are driv- ing down a long hill, slow down andshift to a lower gear. When you do this, engine braking will help slow the car.
o Slow down before shifting to a lower gear.This will help avoid over-running theengine, which can cause damage.
o Slow down when you encounter
cross winds. This gives you muchbetter control of your car.
o Be sure the vehicle is completely
stopped before you attempt to shiftinto reverse. The transmission can be damaged if you do not. To shift into reverse, depress the clutch,move the shift lever to neutral, wait three seconds, then shift to the re- verse position. o Exercise extreme caution when driv-
ing on a slippery surface. Be espe-cially careful when braking, acceler- ating or shifting gears. On a slippery surface, an abruptchange in engine speed can cause the drive wheels to lose traction and the vehicle to go out of control.
CAUTION:
o The risk of rollover is greatly in- creased if you lose control of your vehicle at highway speeds.
o Loss of control often occurs if
two or more wheels drop off theroadway and the driver oversteers to reenter the roadway.
o In the event your vehicle leaves the roadway, do not steer sharply.Instead, slow down before pull-ing back into the travel lanes.
o In a collision crash, an unbelted
person is significantly more likelyto die than a person wearing a seatbelt.
o Never exceed posted speed lim-
its.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
D060A01P-GAT (Minibus/Van) (If installed) The highly efficient Hyundai automatic transmission has four forward speedsand one reverse speed. It has a con- ventional shift pattern as shown in the illustration.At night, with the side markers or head- lights switched on, the appropriate symbol on the quadrant will be illumi-nated according to the range selected. o R (Reverse): Use for backing up the vehicle. Bring the vehicle to a complete stop beforeshifting the selector lever to "R" posi- tion. D060D01P-GAT
o N (Neutral): In the "N" position, the transmission is in neutral, which means that no gearsare engaged. The engine can be started with the shift lever in "N" position, although this is not recommended ex-cept if the engine stalls while the car is moving.

o P (Park): Use to hold the vehicle in place when parking or while starting the engine;shift the selector lever to the "P" posi- tion. Whenever parking the car, apply the parking brake and shift the selectorlever to the "P" position.
CAUTION:
Never place the selector lever in the"P" position unless the vehicle is fully stopped. Failure to observe this caution willcause severe damage to the trans- mission.

Depress the brake pedal and push the button when shifting. Push the button when shifting.The selector lever can be shifted freely.
For optimum fuel economy, acceler-ate gradually. The transmission will automatically shift to the second, thirdand overdrive gears.

o L (Low gear): Use for driving up a very steep grade or for engine braking when descendingsteep hills. When downshifting to "L", the transmission will temporarily re- main in second gear until the vehiclehas slowed enough for low gear to engage. Do not exceed 50 km/h (31 mph) in low gear."L" engages 1st gear only. However, shift-up to 2nd is performed when the vehicle exceeds a certain speed, andas the speed increases, shift-up to 3rd gear occurs to prevent over-running the engine.

o D (Drive): Use for normal driving. The transmis- sion will automatically shift through afour-gear sequence, giving best economy and power. Never down-shift manually to "2" position or "L" positionwhen vehicle speed is more than 96 km/h (60 mph). D060F01P-GAT
o 2 (Second gear): Use for driving on slippery road, hill climbing or engine braking downhill."2" automatically shifts between 1st and 2nd gears. This means that no shift-up to 3rd gearis performed. However, the shift-up to 3rd gear is done when the vehicle speed exceeds a certain value to pre-vent the engine from over-running. o P (Park): Use this range to park the vehicle. This range is also used when engine isstarted and warmed up.
o N (Neutral): The engine can be started in this range, but the use of P range is recommended for safer start up. NOTE:
o For smooth and safe operation,
depress the brake pedal when shifting from "N" position or "P"position to a forward or reverse gear.
o The brake pedal fully depressed in order to move the shift leverfrom the "P" position to any of the other positions.
o It is always possible to shift from "R", "N", "D", "2", "L" position to"P" position. The vehicle mustbe fully stopped to avoid trans- mission damage.

If you need to accelerate rapidly, press the accelerator pedal all the way to thefloor. The transmission will automati- cally shift to a lower gear, depending on the speed. NOTE: Turn the overdrive switch on for good fuel economy and smooth driving. If engine braking is neededin the "D" range or if repeated up- shifting and downshifting between the 3rd and 4th gear is needed whenclimbing a gentle slope, it is recom- mended that the overdrive switch be turned off. Turn the overdriveswitch back on immediately after- ward.
CAUTION:
o Shift into "R" and "P" only when the vehicle has completelystopped.
o Do not accelerate the engine in
the reverse or any of the forwardpositions with the brakes applied.
o Always apply the footbrake when
shifting from "P" or "N" to "R","D", "2" or "L" position.
o Do not use the "P" position in
place of the parking brake. Al-ways set the parking brake, shift the transmission into "P" and turn off the ignition when you leave the vehicle, even momen-tarily. Never leave the vehicle unat- tended while the engine is run-ning.
o Check the automatic transmis-
sion fluid level regularly, and addfluid as necessary. See the maintenance schedule for the proper fluid recommen-dation.
! D080A01P-GAT OVERDRIVE SWITCH (If installed) When the overdrive switch is turned on, the transmission will automatically upshift to the second, third and over- drive gears. When the overdrive switchis turned off, the transmission will not upshift to the overdrive gear at all. For normal driving, the selector levershould be left in the "D" position and the overdrive switch turned on. To move the selector lever, the push but-ton on the selector lever handle may have to be depressed first.HSR3039
