Follow these steps to change your
v ehicle’s tire:
1.Park on a level, firm surface.
2.Move the shift lever into P (Park, for Continuously Variable Transaxle
vehicle) or neutral (for Manual
Transaxle vehicle), apply the park-
ing brake, and place the ignition
switch in the LOCK/OFF position.
3.Press the hazard warning flasher button.
4.Remove the wheel lug nut wrench, jack, jack handle, and spare tire
from the vehicle.
5.Block both the front and rear of the tire diagonally opposite of the tire
you are changing. 6.Loosen the wheel lug nuts counter-
clockwise one turn each in the
order shown above, but do not
remove any lug nuts until the tire
has been raised off of the ground. 7.Place the jack at the designated
jacking position under the frame
closest to the tire you are chang-
ing. The jacking positions are
plates welded to the frame with two
tabs and a raised dot. Never jack
any other position or part of the
vehicle.

•• Do not tow the vehicle with 4
wheels on the ground (such as
dinghy towing behind a motorhome
or other m otor vehicle) as this can
seriously damage the
Continuously Variable Transaxle.
• Do not tow the vehicle with the
front wheels on the ground as this
may cause damage to the vehicle.
• Do not tow with sling-type equip-
ment. Use a wheel lift or flatbed
equipment.When towing your vehicle in an
emergency without wheel dollies:
1. Place the ignition switch in the ACC position.
2. Place the shift lever in N (Neutral).
3. Release the parking brake.Failure to place the shift lever in N
(Neutral) when being towed with the
front wheels on the ground can
cause internal damage to the
transaxle.
Removable towing hook 1.Open the trunk, and remove the towing hook from the tool case. 2.Remove the hole cover pressing
the lower part of the cover on the
front bumper.
3.Install the towing hook by turning it clockwise into the hole until it is
fully secured.
4.Remove the towing hook and install the cover after use.

EEmergency towing If towing is necessary, we recom-
mend you have it done by an author-
ized HYUNDAI dealer or a commer-
cial tow truck service. If towing service is not available in an
emergency, your vehicle may be
temporarily towed using a cable or
chain secured to the emergency tow-
ing hook at the front (or rear) of the
vehicle.
Use extreme caution when towing
the vehicle with a cable or chain. A
driver must be in the vehicle to steer
it and operate the brakes.
Towing in this manner may be done
only on hard-surfaced roads for a
short distance and at low speeds.
Also, the wheels, axles, power train,
steering and brakes must all be in
good condition. Always follow these emergency tow-
ing precautions:
• Place the ignition switch in the
ACC position so the steering
wheel is not locked.
• Place the shift lever in N (Neutral).
• Release the parking brake.
• Depress the brake pedal with more force than normal since you will
have reduced braking perform-
ance.
• More steering effort will be required because the power steer-
ing system will be disabled.
• Use a vehicle heavier than your own to tow your vehicle.
• The drivers of both vehicles should communicate with each other fre-
quently.
• Before emergency towing, check that the hook is not broken or dam-
aged.
• Fasten the towing cable or chain securely to the hook.
• Do not jerk the hook. Apply steady and even force.

and inspections that should be per-
formed at the frequencies indicated
to help ensure safe, dependable
operation of your vehicle.
Any adverse conditions should be
brought to the attention of your deal-
er as soon as possible.
These Owner Maintenance Checks
are generally not covered by war-
ranties and you may be charged for
labor, parts and lubricants used.
Owner maintenance schedule When you stop for fuel:• Check the engine oil level.
• Check the coolant level in coolant
reservoir.
• Check the windshield washer fluid level.
• Look for low or under-inflated tires.
• Check the radiator and condenser. Check if the front of the radiator
and condenser are clean and not
blocked with leaves, dirt or insects
etc.
If any of the above parts areextremely dirty or you are not sure
of their condition, we recommend
that you contact an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.
While operating your vehicle:• Note any changes in the sound of the exhaust or any smell of
exhaust fumes in the vehicle.
• Check for vibrations in the steering wheel. Notice any increased steer-
ing effort or looseness in the steer-
ing wheel, or change in its straight-
ahead position.
• Notice if your vehicle constantly turns slightly or "pulls" to one side
when traveling on smooth, level
road.
• When stopping, listen and check for unusual sounds, pulling to one
side, increased brake pedal travel
or "hard-to-push" brake pedal.
• If any slipping or changes in the operation of your transaxle occurs,
check the transaxle fluid level.
• Check Continuously Variable Transaxle P (Park) function.
• Check the parking brake.
• Check for fluid leaks under your vehicle (water dripping from the air
conditioning system during or after
use is normal).

Be careful when checking your
engine coolant level when the
engine is hot. Scalding hot coolant
and stea m may blow out under
pressure. This could cause burns
or other serious injury.
WARNING

AAt least monthly:• Check the coolant level in theengine coolant reservoir.
• Check the operation of all exterior lights, including the stoplights, turn
signals and hazard warning flash-
ers.
• Check the inflation pressures of all tires including the spare for tires
that are worn, show uneven wear,
or are damaged.
• Check for loose wheel lug nuts.
At least twice a year (i.e., every Spring and Fall):• Check the radiator, heater and air
conditioning hoses for leaks or
damage.
• Check the windshield washer spray and wiper operation. Clean
wiper blades with clean cloth
dampened with washer fluid.
• Check the headlight alignment.
• Check the muffler, exhaust pipes, shields and clamps.
• Check the lap/shoulder belts for wear and function.
At least once a year:• Clean the body and door drainholes.
• Lubricate the door hinges and checks, and hood hinges.
• Lubricate the door and hood locks and latches.
• Lubricate the door rubber weather- strips.
• Check the air conditioning system.
• Inspect and lubricate Continuously Variable Transaxle linkage and
controls.
• Clean the battery and terminals.
• Check the brake/clutch fluid level.

such as radiator, coolant reservoir,
hoses and connections for leakage
and damage. Replace any damaged
parts.CoolantThe coolant should be changed at
the intervals specified in the mainte-

according to the maintenance sched-
ule.
Continuously Variable Transaxle
fluid (if equipped)Continuously Variable Transaxle fluid
should not be checked under normal
usage conditions.
But, the Continuously Variable
Transaxle fluid should be changed
under severe usage conditions. We
recommend that the Continuously
Variable Transaxle fluid changed by
an authorized HYUNDAI dealer
according to the maintenance sched-
ule. (Refer to “Maintenance Under
Severe Usage Conditions” in this
chapter. )
Information
Continuously Variable Transaxle fluid
color is basically light amber.
As the vehicle is driven, the
Continuously Variable Transaxle fluid
will begin to look darker.
It is normal condition and you should
not judge the need to replace the fluid
based upon the changed color.
The use of non-specified fluid (even
marked as compatible with genuine)
could result in shift quality d eteriora-
tion and vibrations, eventually, the
transaxle failure.
Use only specified Continuously
Variabl e Transaxle fluid. (Refer to
"Recommended lubricants and
capacities" in chapter 8.)Brake hoses and linesVisually check for proper installation,
chafing, cracks, deterioration and
any leakage. Replace any deteriorat-
ed or damaged parts immediately.Brake fluidCheck brake fluid level in the brake
fluid reservoir. The level should be
between "MIN" (Minimum) and
"MAX" (Maximum) marks on the side
of the reservoir. Use only hydraulic
brake fluid conforming to DOT 3 or
DOT 4 specification.NOTICE

PParking brakeInspect the parking brake system
including the parking brake pedal
and cables. Brake discs, pads, calipers and
rotorsCheck the pads for excessive wear,
discs for run out and wear, and
calipers for fluid leakage.Suspension mounting boltsCheck the suspension connections
for looseness or damage. Retighten
to the specified torque.
Steering gear box, linkage &
boots/lower arm ball joint
With the vehicle stopped and engine
off, check for excessive free-play in
the steering wheel.
Check the linkage for bends or dam-
age. Check the dust boots and ball
joints for deterioration, cracks, or damage. Replace any damaged
parts.
Drive shafts and bootsCheck the drive shafts, boots and
clamps for cracks, deterioration, or
damage. Replace any damaged
parts and, if necessary, repack the
grease.Air conditioning refrigerant
(if equipped)Check the air conditioning lines and
connections for leakage and dam-
age.
