Air bag inflation conditions
Front air bags
Front air bags are designed to inflate
in certain frontal collision depending
on the crash severity, speed or
angles of impact of the front collision.
•Do not hit or allow any objects to
impact the locations where air
bags or sensors are installed.
This may cause unexpected air
bag deployment, which could
result in serious personal injury
or death.
•If the installation location or
angle of the sensors is altered in
any way, the air bags may
deploy when they should not or
they may not deploy when they
should, causing severe injury or
death.
Therefore, do not try to perform
mai

ntenance on or around the
air bag sensors. We recommend
that the system be serviced by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

• Air bags do not inflate in rollover accidents because vehicle can not
detect rollover accident.
However, side and\for curtain air
bags may inflate when the vehicle
is rolled over after side impact col
lision. • Air bags may not inflate if the vehi
cle collides with objects such as
utility poles or trees, where the
point of impact is concentrated and
the collision energy is absorbed by
the vehicle structure.
SRS Care
The SRS is virtually maintenance
free and so there are no parts you
can safely service by yourself. If the
SRS air bag warning light does not
illuminate, or continuously remains
on, we recommend that the system
be inspected by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.
We recommend that the any work on
the SRS system, such as removing,
installing, repairing, or any work on
the steering wheel, the front passen
ger's panel, front seats and roof rails
be performed by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer. Improper handling
of the SRS system may result in seri
ous personal injury.

DDetecting range may decrease
when:• Outside air temperature is extremely hot or cold.
• Undetectable objects smaller than about 1 m (40 in.) and narrower
than about 14 cm (6 in.) in diameter.The following objects may not be
recognized by the sensor:• Sharp or slim objects such asropes, chains or small poles.
• Objects, which tend to absorb sen- sor frequency such as clothes,spongy material or snow.

The system may not recognize objects
less than 30 cm (12 in.) from the sen-
sor, or it may sense an incorrect dis-
tance.Do not push, scratch or strike the
sensor with any hard objects that
could damage the surface of the
sensor. Sensor damage could occur.iNOTICE
Your new vehicle warranty does
not cover any accidents or dam-
age to the vehicle or injuries to its
occupants due to a Parking
Distance Warning (Reverse)
System malfunction. Always drive
safely and cautiously.

Brake Warning Light by
placing the ignition
switch to the ON posi
tion (do not start the
engine).
This light will be illuminated when the
parking brake is applied with the igni
tion switch in the START or ON posi
tion.
Before driving\b be sure the parking
brake is released and the Brake
Warning Light is OFF. If the Parking Brake Warning Light
remains on after the parking brake is
released while engine is running\b
there may be a malfunction in the
brake system. Immediate attention is
necessary.
If at all possible\b cease driving the
vehicle immediately. If that is not pos
sible\b use extreme caution while
operating the vehicle and only con
tinue to drive the vehicle until you
can reach a safe location.

ABS is an electronic braking system
that helps prevent a braking skid.
ABS allows the driver to steer and
brake at the same time.
Using ABS
To obtain the maximum benefit from
your ABS in an emergency situation\b
do not attempt to modulate your
brake pressure and do not try to
pump your brakes. Depress your
brake pedal as hard as possible.
When you apply your brakes under
conditions which may lock the
wheels\b you may hear sounds from
the brakes\b or feel a corresponding
sensation in the brake pedal. This is
normal and it means your ABS is
active.
ABS does not reduce the time or dis
tance it takes to stop the vehicle.
Always maintain a safe distance from
the vehicle in front of you.
ABS will not prevent a skid that
results from sudden changes in
direction\b such as trying to take a
corner too fast or making a sudden
lane change. Always drive at a safe
speed for the road and weather con
ditions. ABS cannot prevent a loss of stabili
ty. Always steer moderately when
braking hard. Severe or sharp steer
ing wheel movement can still cause
your vehicle to veer into oncoming
traffic or off the road.
On loose or uneven road surfaces\b
operation of the antilock brake sys
tem may result in a longer stopping
distance than for vehicles equipped
with a conventional brake system.
The ABS warning light ( ) will stay
on for several seconds after the igni
tion switch is in the ON position.
During that time\b the ABS will go
through selfdiagnosis and the light
will go off if everything is normal. If
the light stays on\b you may have a
problem with your ABS. We recom
mend that you contact an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer as soon as possi
ble.(Continued)
Drive your vehicle at reduced
speeds during the following condi
tions:
•Rough\b gravel or snowcovered
roads.
•On roads where the road sur
face is pitted or has different
surface height.
•Tire chains are installed on your
vehicle.
The safety features of an ABS
equipped vehicle should not be
tested by high speed driving or
cornering. This could endanger
the safety of yourself or others.

Information
When you jump start your vehicle
because of a drained battery, the ABS
warning light ( ) may turn on at the
same time\b This happens because of
the low battery voltage\b It does not
mean your ABS is malfunctioning\b
Have the battery recharged before
driving the vehicle\b

If the ABS warning light ( ) is on
and stays on\b you may have a
problem with the ABS. Your power
brakes will work normally. To
reduce the risk of serious injury or
death\b we recommend that you
contact your HYUNDAI dealer as
soon as possible.
WARNING
When you drive on a road having
poor traction\b such as an icy road\b
and apply your brakes continuous
ly\b the ABS will be active continu
ously and the ABS warning light
( ) may illuminate. Pull your car
over to a safe place and turn the
engine off.
Restart the engine. If the ABS
warning light is off\b then your ABS
system is normal. Otherwise\b you
may have a problem with your
ABS system. We recommend that
you contact an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer as
soon as pos
sible.

Follow these steps to change your
v ehicle’s tire:
1.Park on a level, firm surface.
2.Move the shift lever into P (Park, for Continuously Variable Transaxle
vehicle) or neutral (for Manual
Transaxle vehicle), apply the park-
ing brake, and place the ignition
switch in the LOCK/OFF position.
3.Press the hazard warning flasher button.
4.Remove the wheel lug nut wrench, jack, jack handle, and spare tire
from the vehicle.
5.Block both the front and rear of the tire diagonally opposite of the tire
you are changing. 6.Loosen the wheel lug nuts counter-
clockwise one turn each in the
order shown above, but do not
remove any lug nuts until the tire
has been raised off of the ground. 7.Place the jack at the designated
jacking position under the frame
closest to the tire you are chang-
ing. The jacking positions are
plates welded to the frame with two
tabs and a raised dot. Never jack
any other position or part of the
vehicle.

CCompact spare tire replacement
(if equipped)A compact spare tire has a shorter
tread life than a regular size tire.
Replace it when you can see the
tread wear indicator bars on the tire.
The replaced compact spare tire
should be the same size and design
tire as the one provided with your
new vehicle and should be mounted
on the same compact spare tire
wheel. The compact spare tire is not
designed to be mounted on a regular
size wheel, and the compact spare
tire wheel is not designed to mount a
regular size tire.

Do not drive your vehicle with
too little or too much pressure in
your tires. This can lead to
uneven we ar and tire failure.
•
When replacing tires, never mix
radial and bias-ply tires on the
same car. You must replace all
tires (i ncluding the spare) if mov-
ing from radial to bias-ply tires.
•
It is best to replace all four tires at
the same time. If that is not possi-
ble, or necessary, then re place the
two front or two rear tires as a pair.
Replacing just one tire can serious-
ly affect your veh icle’s handling.
•
Using tires and wheel other than
the recommended sizes could
cause unusual handling charac-
teristics an d poor vehicle con-
trol, resulting in a serious acci-
dent.

Wheels that do not meet
HYUNDAI's specifications may
fit poorly and result in damage to
the vehicle or u nusual handling
and poor vehicle control.
•
The ABS works by comparing
the speed of the wheels. Tire
size can affect wheel speed.
When replacing ti res, all 4 tires
must use the same size original-
ly supplied with the vehicle.
Using tires of a differe nt size can
cause the ABS (Anti-lock Brake
System) and ESC (Electronic
Stability Control) to work irregu -
larly. (if equipped)
