B080B02FC-EAT FRONT SEATS Front Seat Rake Adjustment The front seat rake adjustment is per- formed by raising the lever at the front of the seat base and sliding the seat to the desired position. At this position thelever should be released and the seat rocked to and fro to ensure that the mechanism has locked.
WARNING:
To ensure the seat is locked se-curely, attempt to move the seat for-ward or rearward without using the lock release lever. SB070C1-E Front Seat Recline Adjustment The front seat back recline angle may be adjusted by leaning forward slightly and raising the recline adjustment lever at the side of the seat. When theseatback is at the desired angle, the lever should be released. Ensure that the seatback is locked before drivingthe vehicle.
SB070D3-E Head Restraint Adjustment To raise the head restraint, pull it up. To lower it, push it down whilst pressing the lock knob. For maximum effective- ness in the event of an accident, therestraint must be adjusted so that the restraint is approximately at the level of the seat occupant's eyes. The restraintmust never be so adjusted that it is centred about the level of the seat occupant's neck.

When the vehicle stops suddenly, or if the occupant tries to lean forward tooquickly, the seat belt retractor will lock into position. However, in certain frontal collisions, the pre-tensioner will acti-vate and pull the seat belt into tighter contact against the occupant's body. The seat belt pre-tensioner system consists mainly of the following compo-nents. Their locations are shown in the illustration.
1.SRS airbag warning light
2.Seat belt pre-tensioner assembly
3.SRS control module WARNING:
To obtain maximum benefit from apre-tensioner seat belt:
1. The seat belt must be worn cor- rectly.
2. The seat belt must be adjusted to
the correct position. NOTE:
o Both the driver's and front
passenger's pre-tensioner seat belts will be activated in certain frontal collisions. The pre- tensioner seat belts can be acti-vated with the airbags. The pre- tensioners will be activated under these conditions even if the seatbelts are not being worn at the time of the collision.
o When the pre-tensioner seat belts are activated, a loud noise may beheard and fine dust, which may appear to be smoke, may be vis-ible in the passenger compart- ment. These are normal operating conditions and are not hazard-ous.
o Although it is harmless, the fine
dust may cause skin irritation andshould not be breathed for pro- longed periods. Wash your hands and face thoroughly after an acci-dent in which the pre-tensioner seat belts were activated.

CAUTION:
o Because the sensor that activates the SRS airbag is connected with the pre-tensioner seat belt, the SRS airbag warning light on theinstrument panel will blink for approximately 6 seconds after the ignition key has been turned to the"ON" position and then it should turn off.
o If the pre-tensioner seat belt is not
working properly, this warninglight will illuminate even if the SRS system is not functioning. If the SRS airbag warning light does not illuminate when the igni-tion key is turned to "ON", or if it remains illuminated after blinking for approximately 6 seconds, or ifit illuminates whilst the vehicle is being driven, please have an Hyundai authorised repairer in-spect the pre-tensioner seat belt or SRS airbag system as soon as possible. WARNING:
o Pre-tensioners are designed to operate only one time. After acti- vation, pre-tensioner seat belts must be replaced. All seat belts, ofany type, should always be re- placed after they have been worn during a collision.
o The pre-tensioner seat belt assem- bly mechanisms become hot dur-ing activation. Do not touch thepre-tensioner seat belt assemblies for several minutes after they have been activated.
o Do not attempt to inspect or re-
place the pre-tensioner seat beltsyourself. This must be done by an Hyundai authorised repairer.
o Do not strike the pre-tensioner seat belt assemblies.
o Do not attempt to service or repair
the pre-tensioner seat belt system in any manner. o Improper handling of the pre-
tensioner seat belt assemblies, and failure to heed the warnings to not strike, modify, inspect, replace, service or repair the pre-tensioner seat belt assemblies may lead to improper operation or inadvertentactivation and serious injury.
o Always wear the seat belts when
driving or travelling in a motorvehicle.

B240C03Y-EAT SRS Care The SRS is virtually maintenance-free and there are no parts you can safely service by yourself. The entire SRSsystem must be inspected by an Hyundai authorised repairer in 10 years after the date that the vehicle wasmanufactured. Any work on the SRS system, such as removing, installing, repairing, or any work on the steering wheel must be performed by a qualified Hyundai tech-nician. Improper handling of the SRS system may result in serious personal injury.
B240C01HP WARNING:
o Extreme Hazard! Do not use a rear- ward facing child restraint on a seat protected by an airbag in front of it!If you must use a rear facing child seat on the front seat, first deacti- vate the air bag system and ensurethat the passenger's front air bag 'off' indicator light in the instru- ment cluster is displayed.
o Do not install a child restraint sys- tem in the front passenger seatposition.A child restraint system must
never be placed in the front seat. The infant or child could be se-verely injured by an airbag de- ployment in case of an accident.
o Modification to SRS components or wiring, including the additionof any kind of badges to the pad covers or modifications to the bodystructure, can adversely affect SRS performance and lead to possible injury.
o Do not place any objects (an um-
brella, bag, etc.) between the frontdoor and the front seat. Such ob-jects may become dangerous pro- jectiles and cause injury if the supplemental side impact air baginflates.
o To prevent unexpected deploy-
ment of the side impact air bagthat may result in personal injury, avoid impact to the side airbag sensor when the ignition key ison.

44WARNING AND INDICATOR LIGHTS
SB210C1-ESRS (Airbag) Service Reminder Indicator Light
The SRS service reminder indicator (SRI) comes on and flashes for approxi-mately 6 seconds after the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position or after the engine is started, after which it willgo out. This light also comes on when the SRS is not working properly. If the SRI does not come on, or continu- ously remains on after flashing for about6 seconds when you turned the ignition key to the "ON" position or started the engine, or if it comes on whilst driving, have the SRS inspected by an Hyundai authorised repairer.
B260U01TB-EAT Immobiliser Indicator Light
This indicator light comes on for some seconds after the ignition key is turnedto the "ON" position. At this time, you can start the engine. The light goes out after the engine is running. In case thislight goes out before you start the en- gine, you must turn to the "LOCK" position and restart the engine. In casethis light blinks for five seconds when the ignition key is turned to "ON" posi- tion, this indicates that the immobilisersystem is out of order.
SB210G1-E Turn Signal Indicator Light
Operation of a turn signal is indicated by the warning light located in the in-strument cluster. If the light fails to illuminate or does not flash, a malfunc- tion within the turn signal system isindicated.
B260C02E-EATTraction Control Indicator Light(Not all models)
The traction control indicator changes operation according to the ignition switch position and whether or not the system is in operation.
B265C01LZ-EAT Electronic Stability Program Indicator Lights(Not all models)
The electronic stability program indica- tors change operation according to theignition switch position and whether the system is in operation or not. They will illuminate when the ignitionkey is turned to the "ON" position, but should go out after three seconds. If the ESP or ESP-OFF indicator stays on,take your car to your Hyundai authorised repairer and have the system checked. See section 2 for more informationabout the ESP.
It will also illuminate when the ignition key is turned to the "ON" position, andthen go off in a few seconds. If the TCS indicator stays on, take your car to your Hyundai authorised repairer and havethe system checked. See section 2 for more information about the TCS sys- tem.

Parking Brake/Low Brake Fluid Level Warning Light WARNING:
In the event of problems being sus- pected with the braking system, the advice of the nearest Hyundai authorised repairer must be soughtbefore the vehicle is driven. Driving the vehicle with either an electrical or hydraulic braking system defectmay be dangerous, resulting in acci- dent or personal injury. Warning light operation The parking brake/low brake fluid level warning light will be illuminated when-ever the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position irrespective of whether or not the parking brake is applied andmust be extinguished when the engine starts and the parking brake released. If the warning light fails to extinguish orilluminates at any other time, the ve- hicle must be brought to rest in a safe location and the level of brake fluid inthe reservoir checked. If the fluid level is incorrect, fluid con- forming to DOT 3 or DOT 4 specifica-tions should be added. If, after correct- ing the brake fluid level, the warning light continues to be illuminated, theadvice of the nearest Hyundai authorised repairer must be sought before the ve- hicle is driven again. The Hyundai Matrix is equipped with a diagonally split dual braking system which will ensure that in the event ofone of the brake circuits becoming defective, approximately fifty per cent of the normal braking performance willbe available.
SB210E1-E
Overdrive Off Indicator
Light (Not all models)
When the overdrive (4th gear) switch is turned off and the operation of overdrive(4th gear) is cancelled, the overdrive warning light (O/D OFF) will be illumi- nated. When the switch is at the onposition, the gearbox will operate in the normal fully automatic mode and the warning light will be extinguished. If failure of one of the circuits occurs, the required amount of pedal effort, pedal travel and stopping distance will be increased. Use of the gearbox is recommended to assist in bringing thevehicle to rest. The vehicle must not be driven once brake failure has occurred until the system has been repaired andis functioning normally. The braking system employs a vacuum servo in order that the pedal efforts arereduced. Power for the servo is derived from the engine and therefore, in the event of the engine stopping or thevehicle being towed, pedal efforts will be substantially increased.
