Mist Wiper OperationIf a single wipe is desired in mist, push the
windshield wiper and washer control lever up-
wards.
WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER
SWITCHB350A01A-AATThe windshield wiper switch has three posi-
tions:
1. Intermittent wiper operation
2. Low-speed operation
3. High-speed operationNOTE:To prevent damage to the wiper system, do
not attempt to wipe away heavy accumula-
tions of snow or ice. Accumulated snow
and ice should be removed manually. If
there is only a light layer of snow or ice,
operate the heater in the defrost mode to
melt the snow or ice before using the wiper.

B350B01O-GATWindshield Washer OperationTo use the windshield washer, pull the wiper/
washer lever toward the steering wheel. When
the washer lever is operated, the wipers auto-
matically make two passes across the wind-
shield. The washer continues to operate until
the lever is released.NOTE:o Do not operate the washer more than 15
seconds at a time or when the fluid
reservoir is empty.
o In icy or freezing weather, be sure the
wiper blades are not frozen to the glass
prior to operating the wipers.
o In areas where water freezes in winter,
use windshield washer antifreeze.

B390A01JM-AATRear Window Wiper And Washer
(If installed)1. : The rear window wiper starts to oper-
ate three times after the washer fluid
sprays onto the rear window.
2.OFF
3.INT:The interval between wipes operates
every 5 seconds intermittently.
4.ON :The rear window wiper starts to oper-
ate continuously.
5. : The washer fluid will be sprayed onto
the rear window and the wiper oper-
ates while the rear window wiper bar-
rel is placed in this position.
B350D01O-A
B350C01O-AATAdjustable Intermittent Wiper OperationTo use the intermittent wiper feature, place the
wiper switch in the "INT" position. With the
switch in this position, the interval between
wipes can be varied from approximately 1 to 18
seconds by turning the interval adjuster barrel.
It also can be varied by vehicle speeds within
same time.
B350C01O-A
NOTE:Do not operate the washer continuously for
more than 15 seconds or when the fluid
reservoir is empty; this could damage the
system. Do not operate the wiper when the
window is dry; this can result in scratching
as well as premature wiper blade wear.

DRIVING YOUR HYUNDAI

C160H02A-AATUse Approved Window Washer Anti-
Freeze in SystemTo keep the water in the window washer system
from freezing, add an approved window washer
anti-freeze solution in accordance with instruc-
tions on the container. Window washer anti-
freeze is available from Hyundai dealers and
most auto parts outlets. Do not use engine
coolant or other types of anti-freeze as these
may damage the paint finish.C160G01A-AATTo Keep Locks from FreezingTo keep the locks from freezing, squirt an
approved de-icer fluid or glycerine into the key
opening. If a lock is covered with ice, squirt it with
an approved de-icing fluid to remove the ice. If
the lock is frozen internally, you may be able to
thaw it out by using a heated key. Handle the
heated key with care to avoid injury.
C160F01A-AATCheck Spark Plugs and Ignition
SystemInspect your spark plugs as described in Sec-
tion 6 and replace them if necessary. Also
check all ignition wiring and components to be
sure they are not cracked, worn or damaged in
any way.C160E01A-AATChange to "Winter Weight" Oil if
NecessaryIn some climates it is recommended that a lower
viscosity "winter weight" oil be used during cold
weather. See Section 9 for recommendations.
If you aren't sure what weight oil you should use,
consult your Hyundai dealer.C160D01A-AATCheck Battery and CablesWinter puts additional burdens on the battery
system. Visually inspect the battery and cables
as described in Section 6. The level of charge
in your battery can be checked by your Hyundai
dealer or a service station.
C160C01A-AATUse High Quality Ethylene Glycol
CoolantYour Hyundai is delivered with high quality
ethylene glycol coolant in the cooling system. It
is the only type of coolant that should be used
because it helps prevent corrosion in the cool-
ing system, lubricates the water pump and
prevents freezing. Be sure to replace or replen-
ish your coolant in accordance with the main-
tenance schedule in Section 5. Before winter,
have your coolant tested to assure that its
freezing point is sufficient for the temperatures
anticipated during the winter.NOTE:o Tire chains are not legal in all states.
Check state laws before fitting tire
chains.
o Tire chains are to be used on front tires
only. If your vehicle is equippied with the
4WD (four wheels drive), be sure to in-
stall the chains on all wheels.

FILLING THE WASHER RESERVOIRG090A02O-AATThe washer fluid reservoir supplies fluid to the
windshield washer system.
A good quality washer fluid should be used to fill
the washer reservoir. The fluid level should be
checked more frequently during inclement
weather or whenever the washer system is in
more frequent use.
The capacity of the washer reservoir is 3.59
U.S. quarts (3.4 Liters).
G090A01O
1. Put a new wiper blade onto the wiper arm and
lower the wiper blade at the level of the wiper
arm as shown in the drawing.
2. Pull up the wiper blade until you hear an
audible "click" to engage in the end of the
wiper arm.NOTE:Do not allow the wiper arm to fall against the
windshield.

CAUTION:
o Radiator anti-freeze (engine coolant)
should not be used in the washer system
because it will damage the car's finish.
o The washer should not be operated if the
washer reservoir is empty. This can dam-
age the washer fluid pump.
!
CHECKING THE TRANSAXLE
FLUID (AUTOMATIC)G110A01E-AATTransaxle fluid in the automatic transaxle should
be checked at those intervals specified in the
vehicle maintenance schedule in Section 5.NOTE:Automatic transaxle fluid is basically red
color. As driving distance increases, the
fluid color turns darkish red gradually. It is
a normal condition and you should not
judge the need to replace based upon the
changing color.
You must replace the automatic transaxle
fluid in accordance with intervals specified
in the vehicle maintenance schedule in
section 5.
!
G110B04A-AATRecommended FluidYour Hyundai automatic transaxle is specially
designed to operate with HYUNDAI GENUINE
ATF SP III, DIAMOND ATF SP III, SK ATF SP
III or other brands approved by Hundai Motor
Co., Damage caused by a nonspecified fluid is
not covered by your new vehicle limited war-
ranty.
CAUTION:
Use of aftermarket ATF additives may cause
damage to the automatic transaxle. Only
use HYUNDAI GENUINE ATF SP III, DIA-
MOND ATF SP III, SK ATF SP III or other
brands approved by Hyundai Motor Co., If
you are having your vehicle serviced at a
facility other than a Hyundai dealer, verify
ATF is used for your vehicle.
!
WARNING:
o Windshield washer fluid agents contain
some amounts of alcohol and can be
flammable under certain circumstances.
Do not allow sparks or flame to contact
the washer fluid or the washer fluid
reservoir. Damage to the vehicle or its
occupants could occur.
o Windshield washer fluid is poisonous to
humans and animals. Do not drink wind-
shield washer fluid. Serious injury or
death could occur.
