TO START THE ENGINE
C030A01A-GAT COMBINATION IGNITION SWITCH
o If your Hyundai is equipped with a manual transaxle, place the shift lever in neutral and depress the clutch pedal fully.
o If your Hyundai has an automatic
transaxle, place the shift lever in "P"(park).
o To start the engine, insert the ignition key and turn it to the "START" posi-tion. Release it as soon as the en- gine starts. Do not hold the key in the"START" position for more than 15 seconds.
NOTE: For safety, the engine will not start if the clutch pedal is not depressed
fully (Manual Transaxle) or the shift lever is not in "P" or "N" Position(Automatic Transaxle).
WARNING:
Your vehicle is equipped with tyres designed to provide for safe ride and handling capability.Do not use a size and type of tyre and wheel that is different from the one that was originally installed on yourvehicle. It can affect the safety and performance of your vehicle, which could lead to handling failure orrollover and serious injury. When replacing the tyres, be sure to equip all four tyres with the tyre andwheel of the same size, type, tread, brand and load-carrying capacity. If you nevertheless decide to equipyour vehicle with any tyre/wheel com- bination not recommended by Hyundai for off-road driving, youshould not use these tyres for high- way driving.
!WARNING:
Always wear appropriate shoes when operating your vehicle.Unsuitable shoes (high heels, ski boots, etc.) may interfere with your ability to use the brake and accelera-tor pedal, and the clutch (if installed).
!WARNING (DIESEL ENGINE):
To ensure that sufficient vacuum exists within the brake system dur-ing cold weather start-up conditions, it is necessary to run the engine at idle for several seconds after start-ing the engine.
!WARNING:
When you intend to park or stop the vehicle with the engine on, be care- ful not to depress the accelerator pedal for a long period of time. It mayoverheat the engine or exhaust sys- tem and cause fire.

6CLEANING THE INTERIOR
E030E01A-AAT Maintaining Bumpers Special precautions must be observed to preserve the appearance of thebumpers on your Hyundai. They are:
o Be careful not to spill battery electro- lyte or hydraulic brake fluid on the bumpers. If you do, wash it off immediately with clear water.
o Be gentle when cleaning the bumper surfaces. They are made of softplastic and the surface can be dam-aged if mistreated. Do not use abra- sive cleaners. Use warm water and mild soap or car-washing solution.
o Do not expose the bumpers to high temperatures. For example, if youhave your car repainted, do not leavethe bumpers on the car if the car is going to be placed in a high-tempera- ture paint booth. E040A01A-DAT To Clean the Vinyl Upholstery To clean the vinyl upholstery, first re- move loose dirt and dust with a vacuumcleaner. Then apply a solution of mild soap or detergent and water using a clean sponge or soft cloth. Allow this tostay on the surface to loosen the dirt, then wipe with a clean damp sponge or cloth. If all the dirt stains are not re-moved, repeat this procedure until the upholstery is clean. Do not use petrol, solvent, paint thinner or other strongcleaners.
E040B01A-DAT To Clean the Leather Upholstery (If Installed) In the normal course of use, leather upholstered surfaces will, like any ma-terial, pick-up dust and dirt. This dust and dirt must be cleaned off or it may work into the surface of the leather,causing damage. Fine leather needs care, and should be cleaned when necessary. Washing leather thoroughly with soap and water will keep your leather lustrous, beautifuland ensure you have many years of wear. Take a piece of cheese cloth and using any mild soap and lukewarm water, work up a good lather. Thoroughly washthe leather. Wipe clean with a slightly damp cloth and dry with soft cloth. Do this as often as the leather becomessoiled. Consult your Hyundai dealer for recom- mended leather treatment products.

(3) AT FIRST, REPLACE AT 100,000 KM OR 60 MONTHS: AFTER THAT, REPLACE EVERY 40,000 KM OR 24 MONTHS * FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE, IT CAN BE REPLACED PRIOR TO IT'S INTERVAL WHEN YOU DO MAINTENANCE OF OTHER ITEMS. 75 60

A - Repeatedly driving short distance of less than 8km(5miles) in normal tempera ture or less than 16km(10miles) in freezing tem- perature

C - Driving on rough, dusty, muddy, unpaved, graveled or saltspread roads

With the vehicle stopped and engine off, check for excessive free-play in the steering wheel. Check the linkage for bends or damage. Check the dustboots and ball joints for deterioration, cracks, or damage. Replace any dam- aged parts. F070N01A-AAT
o Power Steering Pump,
Belt and Hoses
Check the power steering pump and hoses for leakage and damage. Re-place any damaged or leaking parts immediately. Inspect the power steer- ing belt for evidence of cuts, cracks,excessive wear, oiliness and proper tension. Replace or adjust it if neces- sary. F070P01A-AAT
o Drive Shafts and Boots
Check the drive shafts, boots and
clamps for cracks, deterioration, or damage. Replace any damaged parts and, if necessary, repack the grease.
