E030A01A-AAT Washing Your Hyundai Never wash your car when the surface is hot from being in the sun. Alwayswash your car in the shade. Wash your car frequently. Dirt is abra- sive and can scratch the paint if it is not removed. Air pollution or acid rain may damage the paint and trim throughchemical action if pollutants are al- lowed to remain in contact with the surface. If you live near the ocean or inan area where road salts or dust con- trol chemicals are used, you should pay particular attention to the under-side of the car. Start by rinsing the car to remove dust and loose dirt. In win- ter, or if you have driven through mudor muddy water, be sure to thoroughly clean the underside as well. Use a hard direct stream of water to removeaccumulations of mud or corrosive materials. Use a good quality car-wash- ing solution and follow the manufac-turer's directions on the package. These are available at your Hyundai dealer or auto parts outlet. Don't usestrong household detergents, gaso- line, strong solvents or abrasive clean-ing powders as these may damage thefinish. Use a clean sponge or cloth, rinse it frequently and don't damage the finishby rubbing too hard. For stubborn spots, dampen them frequently and remove them a little at a time.To clean whitewall tires, use a stiff brush or soapy steel-wool scouring pad. To clean plastic wheel covers, use a clean sponge or soft cloth and water. To clean cast aluminum alloy wheels, use a mild soap or neutral detergent.Do not use abrasive cleaners. Protect the bare-metal surfaces by cleaning, polishing and waxing. Because alumi-num is subject to corrosion, be sure to give aluminum alloy wheels special attention in winter. If you drive onsalted roads, clean the wheels thor- oughly afterwards. After washing, be sure to rinse thor- oughly. If soapy water dries on the finish, streaking will result.
When the weather is warm and thehumidity low, you may find it neces-sary to rinse each section immediately after washing to avoid streaking. After rinsing, dry the car using a damp chamois or soft, absorbent cloth. The reason for drying the car is to removewater from the car so it will dry without water spots. Don't rub, this can dam- age the finish. If you find any nicks or scratches in the paint, use touch-up paint to cover themto prevent corrosion. To protect the paintwork of the car against corrosion, you must clean your Hyundai (at leastonce a month). Give special attention to the removal of salt, mud and other substances on the underside of thesplashboards of the car. Make sure that the outlets and the underside of the doors are open. Paint damage canbe caused by small accumulation of tar, industrial precipitation, tree resin, insects and bird droppings, when notremoved immediately.

inspections, adjustments and replace- ments that are listed in the mainte-nance charts starting on page 5-4. These procedures must be performed at the intervals shown in the mainte-nance schedule to assure that your warranty remains in effect. Although it is strongly recommended that they beperformed by the factory-trained or distributor-trained technicians at your Hyundai dealer, these procedures maybe performed at any qualified service facility. Hyundai can be divided into three main areas: o Specified scheduled procedures o General checks o Do-it-yourself maintenance It is suggested that genuine Hyundai
service parts be used for any requiredrepairs or replacements. Other parts of equivalent quality such as engine oil, engine coolant, manual or auto trans-mission oil, brake fluid and so on which are not supplied by Hyundai Motor Company or its distributor maybe used without affecting your war- ranty coverage but you should always be sure these are equivalent to thequality of the original Hyundai parts. A Few Tips
Whenever you have your Hyundai ser- viced, keep copies of the service records in your glove box. This will help ensure that you can documentthat the required procedures have been performed to keep your warranties in effect. This is especially importantwhen service is not performed by an authorized Hyundai dealer. F020A01Y-GAT Inspection should be performed any time a malfunction is experienced or suspected. Receipts for all emissioncontrol system services should be re- tained to demonstrate compliance with conditions of the emissions systemwarranty.For severe usage maintenance require-ments, see page 5-8 of this section.

6CHECKING THE ENGINE OIL
G030A01A-AAT Engine oil is essential to the perfor- mance and service of the engine. It is suggested that you check the oil levelat least once a week in normal use and more often if you are on a trip or driving in severe conditions. G030B05HP-GAT
Recommended Oil 1. Gasoline Engine
(1) Select engine oil of the proper
SAE viscosity number according to the atmospheric temperature. Recommended viscosity is given in the following illustration.
(2) The engine oil quality should meet the following classification.
API SJ, SL or ABOVE, ILSAC GF-3 or ABOVE NOTE:
o For good fuel economy, SAE 5W-20 (5W-30), ILSAC GF-3 en- gine oil is preferred regardless of regional option and engine variation.
o If SAE 5W-20, ILSAC GF-3 en- gine oil is not available, second-ary recommended engine oil forcorresponding temperature range can be used.
2. Diesel Engine
(1) Select engine oil of the proper SAE viscosity number according to the atmospheric temperature. Recommended viscosity is given in the following illustration.

Responsibilty For Maintenance
It is the responsibility of the vehicle owner/driver to ensure that all routine mainte- nance services are undertaken in line with the recommendations specified in Section 5 of this manual. In addition, in order to ensure continued validity of the new vehiclewarranty and safe operation of the vehicle, non scheduled maintenance/running repairs should be undertaken at the earliest available opportunity. Under severe operating conditions, more frequent maintenance is required. Detailsof the maintenance schedule for such conditions are also given in section 5. It is recommended that all maintenance operations and repairs are entrusted to a franchised Hyundai dealer to ensure that the latest repair methods, specializedtooling and genuine Hyundai parts are used to ensure the continued reliability and safety of the vehicle.

TWO WAY RADIO INSTALLATION
This vehicle is fitted with electronically controlled fuel injection or other micro processor controlled equipment. It is possible for incorrectly installed two way radio equipment including mobiletelephones to adversely affect these systems. Before radio equipment of this kind is installed, please contact your Hyundai dealer for recommendation regarding the suitability of the particular radio equipmentconcerned and the recommended method of installation and equipment location. Incorrectly installed or unsuitable equipment which gives rise to incorrect functioning of or damage to electronic vehicle components will not fall within the scope of thevehicle manufacturers warranty.

Modification to the original vehicle specification may invalidate the manufacturers warranty and may adversely affect the safety and durability of the vehicle. Parking Brake/ Low Brake Fluid LevelWarning Light WARNING:
In the event of problems being sus- pected with the braking system, theadvice of the nearest Hyundai dealer must be sought before the vehicle is driven. Driving the vehicle witheither an electrical or hydraulic brak- ing system defect may be danger- ous, resulting in accident or per-sonal injury. Warning Light Operation The parking brake/low brake fluid level warning light will be illuminated when-ever the ignition switch is turned to the "ON" position irrespective of whether or not the parking brake is applied andmust be extinguished when the engine starts and the parking brake released. If the warning light fails to extinguish orilluminates at any other time, the ve- hicle must be brought to rest in a safe location and the level of brake fluid inthe reservoir checked. If the fluid level is incorrect, fluid conforming to DOT 3 or DOT 4 specifications should beadded. If, after correcting the brake fluid level, the warning light continues to be illuminated, the advice of thenearest Hyundai dealer must be sought before the vehicle is driven again. Your Hyundai is equipped with a di-agonally split dual braking system which will ensure that in the event of one of the brake circuits becomingdefective, approximately fifty per cent of the normal braking performance will be available.If failure of one of the circuits occurs,the required amount of pedal effort,pedal travel and stopping distance will be increased. Use of the gearbox is recommended to assist in bringing thevehicle to rest. The vehicle must not be driven once brake failure has occurred until the system has been repaired andis functioning normally. The braking system employs a vacuum servo in order that the pedal efforts arereduced. Power for the servo is de- rived from the engine and therefore, in the event of the engine stopping or thevehicle being towed, pedal efforts will be substantially increased.

HPB270C2-E OUTSIDE REARVIEW MIRROR HEATER (Not all models) The outside rearview mirror heater is actuated in connection with heated front/rear window.So, to heat the outside rearview mirror glass, push in the switch for heated front/rear window.The rearview mirror glass will be heated for defrosting or defogging and will give you improved rear vision in all
weather conditions. Push the switch again to turn the heater off. The outside rearview mirror heater au-tomatically turns itself off after 20 min- utes.

B510B01Y-EAT Electric Type (Not all models) The outside rearview mirrors can be adjusted to your preferred rear vision, both directly behind the vehicle, and to the rear of the left and right sides.The remote control outside rearview mirror switch controls the adjustments for both right and left outside mirrors. To adjust the position of either mir- ror:
1. Move the selecting switch to the right or left to activate the adjustablemechanism for the correspondingdoor mirror.
2. Now, adjust mirror angle by de-
pressing the appropriate perimeterswitch as illustrated. CAUTION:
o Do not operate the switch continu- ously for an unnecessary lengthof time.
o Scraping ice from the mirror face
could cause permanent damage.To remove any ice, use a sponge, soft cloth or approved de-icer.
WARNING:
Be careful when judging the size or distance of any object seen in thepassenger side rearview mirror. It is a convex mirror with a curved sur- face. Any objects seen in this mirrorare closer than they appear.
