B010B01A-AAT What About Gasohol? Gasohol (a mixture of 90% unleaded gasoline and 10% ethanol or grain alcohol) may be used in your Hyundai. However, if your engine develops drive ability problems, the use of 100% un- leaded gasoline is recommended. Fu-els with unspecified quantities of alco- hol, or alcohols other than ethanol, should not be used.
B010A01O-GAT Use Unleaded Gasoline Unleaded gasoline with a Pump Oc- tane Rating of 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher must be used inHyundai vehicle. If leaded gasoline is used, it will cause the catalytic con- verter to become ineffective and theemission control system to malfunc- tion. This can also result in increased main-tenance expense. To avoid accidental use of leaded fuel, the large nozzle used with leaded gasoline at servicestations can not be inserted into fuel tank opening of your Hyundai.
NOTE:
o For some countries, Hyundai
vehicles are designed to use leaded gasoline. When you aregoing to use leaded gasoline, ask to Hyundai dealer whether leaded gasoline in your vehicleis available or not.
o Octane rating of leaded gasoline
is same with unleaded one.
Use Diesel Diesel fuel of 52 to 54 cetane is the correct rating to use in your Hyundai. If two types of diesel fuel are available, use summer or winter fuel properlyaccording to the following temperature conditions.
o Above -5°C (23°F) ... Summer type diesel fuel.
o Below -5°C (23°F) ... Winter type
diesel fuel.
Watch the fuel level in the tank very carefully : If the engine stops through fuel failure, the circuits must be com- pletely purged to permit restarting. CAUTION:
o Do not let any gasoline or water enter the tank. This would makeit necessary to drain it out and to bleed the lines to avoid jamming the injection pump and damag-ing the engine.
o In winter, in order to cut down
incidents due to freezing, paraf-fin oil may be added to the fuel if the temperature drops to below -10°C. Never use more than 20% paraffin oil.

3BREAKING IN YOUR NEW HYUNDAI
!
B010D01S-AAT Do not Use Methanol Fuels containing methanol (wood al- cohol) should not be used in yourHyundai. This type of fuel can reduce vehicle performance and damage com- ponents of the fuel system.
CAUTION:
Your Hyundai's New Vehicle Lim-ited Warranty may not cover dam-age to the fuel system and perfor- mance problems that are caused by the use of methanol or fuels con- taining methanol. B010E01A-AAT Gasolines for Cleaner Air To help contribute to cleaner air, Hyundai recommends that you use gasolines treated with detergent addi- tives, which help prevent deposit for-mation in the engine. These gasolines will help the engine run cleaner and enhance performance of the EmissionControl System. B010F01A-AAT Operation in Foreign Countries If you are going to drive your Hyundai in another country, be sure to:
o Observe all regulations regarding
registration and insurance.
o Determine that acceptable fuel is available. B020A01S-GAT During the First 2,000 Km (1,200 Miles) (Gasoline Engine) No formal "break-in" procedure is re- quired with your new Hyundai. How-ever, you can contribute to the eco- nomical operation and durability of your Hyundai by observing the followingrecommendations during the first 2,000 km (1,200 miles).
o Don't drive faster than 88 km/h (55
mph).
o While driving, keep your engine speed (rpm, or revolutions per minute) between 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
o Use moderate acceleration. Don't start, depress the accelerator pedalfully.
o For the first 300 km (200 miles), try to avoid hard stops.
o Don't lug the engine (in other words, don't drive so slowly in too high a gear that the engine "bucks":shift to a lower gear).
o Whether going fast or slow, vary your speed from time to time.

C160H01A-AAT Use Approved Anti-Freeze in Window Washer System To keep the water in the window washer system from freezing, add an approvedanti-freeze solution in accordance with instructions on the container. Window washer anti-freeze is available fromHyundai dealers and most auto parts outlets. Do not use engine coolant or other types of anti-freeze as thesemay damage the finish. C160I01HP-GAT Don't Let Your Parking Brake Freeze Under some conditions your parking brake can freeze in the engaged posi- tion. This is most likely to happen whenthere is an accumulation of snow or ice around or near the rear brakes or if the brakes are wet. If there is a risk theparking brake may freeze, apply it only temporarily while you put the gear selec- tor lever in "P" (automatic) or in first orreverse gear (manual transmission) and block the rear wheels so the car cannot roll. Then release the parking brake. C160K01A-AAT Carry Emergency Equipment Depending on the severity of the weather where you drive your car, you should carry appropriate emergencyequipment. Some of the items you may want to carry include tire chains, tow straps or chains, flashlight, emer-gency flares, sand, a shovel, jumper cables, a window scraper, gloves, ground cloth, coveralls, a blanket, etc.HIGHER SPEED MOTORING
C170A01A-AAT Pre-Trip Inspections 1. Tires: Adjust the tire inflation pressures to specification. Low tire inflation pres- sures will result in overheating and possible failure of the tires.Avoid using worn or damaged tires which may result in reduced traction or tire failure. NOTE: Never exceed the maximum tire in- flation pressure shown on the tires.
2. Fuel, engine coolant and engine oil:
High speed travel consumes more fuel than urban motoring. Do not forget to check both engine coolant and engineoil. 3. Drive belt: A loose or damaged drive belt may result in overheating of the engine.
C160J01A-AAT Don't Let Ice and Snow Accumu- late Underneath Under some conditions, snow and ice can build up under the fenders andinterfere with the steering. When driv- ing in severe winter conditions where this may happen, you should periodi-cally check underneath the car to be sure the movement of the front wheels and the steering components is notobstructed.

Replacing the Spark Plugs
The spark plugs should be changed
at the intervals specified in the ve- hicle maintenance schedule in Sec- tion 5 or whenever engine perfor-mance indicates they should be changed. Symptoms that suggest poor spark plug performance include en-gine misfiring under load, loss of fuel economy, poor acceleration, etc.
When spark plugs are replaced, al-
ways use spark plugs recommended by Hyundai. The use of other sparkplugs can result in loss of perfor- mance, radio interference or engine damage. Recommended Spark Plugs:Remark Unleaded* Leaded
*: Platinum coated
6. Start the engine, top off the radia- tor with water and then add coolant to the reservoir until the level is between "LOW" and "FULL".
7. Replace the radiator and reservoir caps and check to be sure thedrain cocks are fully closed and not leaking.
WARNING:
The cooling fan is controlled byengine coolant temperature and may sometimes operate even when the engine is not running. Useextreme caution when working near the blades of the coolant fan so that you are not injured by a rotat-ing fan blade. As the engine cool- ant temperature decreases, the fan will automatically shut off. This isa normal condition. G060A01L

To check the power steering fluid level, be sure the ignition is "OFF",then check to make certain that the power steering fluid level is between the "MAX" and "MIN" level markingson the fluid reservoir. NOTE: Grinding noise from the power steering pump may be heard im- mediately after the engine is startedin extremely cold conditions (be- low - 20°C). If the noise stops dur- ing warm up, there is no abnormalfunction in the system. If is due to a power steering fluid characteris- tic in extremely cold conditions.
Recommended Fluid Use PSF-3 type fluid. NOTE: Do not start the engine when the power steering oil reservoir is empty.
FUEL FILTER
G240A01A-AAT
POWER STEERING HOSES
It is suggested that you check the
power steering hose connections for fluid leakage at regular intervals. The power steering hoses should be re-placed if there is severe surface crack- ing, pulling, scuffing or worn spots. Deterioration of the hose could causepremature failure. G350A02HP-GAT Bleeding the Fuel System (For Diesel Engine (2.5 TCI)) The fuel system should be bled to remove air as described in the illus- tration if the fuel supply is exhausted during travel, when the fuel filter isreplaced, or if the vehicle is not used for a long time.
1. Loosen the air bleed bolt at the
upper part of the fuel filter with a flat-head screwdriver or equivalent. G350A01HP

CATALYTIC CONVERTER
H020A01A-AAT
; For a Gasoline Engine
All Hyundai vehicles are equipped
with a monolith type three-way cata- lytic converter to reduce the carbonmonoxide, hydrocarbons and nitro- gen oxides contained in the exhaust gas. Exhaust gases passing throughthe catalytic converter may cause it to operate at a very high temperature. The introduction of large amounts ofunburned gasoline into the exhaust may cause the catalytic converter to overheat and create a fire hazard. This risk may be reduced by observ- ing the following: WARNING:
o Use unleaded fuel only.
o Maintain the engine in good operating condition. Extremely high catalytic converter tempera-tures can result from improper operation of the electrical, igni- tion or multiport electronic fuelinjection.
o If your engine stalls, pings, knocks, or is hard to start, have your Hyundai dealer inspect and repair the problem as soon aspossible.
o Avoid driving with a very low
fuel level. Running out of gaso-line may cause the engine to misfire and result in damage to the catalytic converter.
o Avoid idling the engine for peri-
ods longer than 10 minutes.
o The vehicle should not be pushed or pulled to get started. This may cause the catalyticconverter to overheat and cre- ate a fire hazard.
Catalytic Converter
o Do not touch the catalytic con-
verter or any other part of the exhaust system while the cata- lytic converter is hot. Shut off the engine, wait for at least onehour before touching the cata- lytic converter or any other part of the exhaust system.
o Remember that your Hyundai dealer is your best source ofassistance.
o Do not stop your Hyundai over any combustible material suchas grass, paper, leaves or rags. These materials might contact the hot catalytic converter and afire might result.
