B010A02O-GAT Use Unleaded Gasoline For Europe
– For the optimal vehicle
performance, we recommend you to use unleaded gasoline with an octanerating of RON (Research Octane Num- ber) 95 /AKI (Anti Knock Index) 91 or higher. You may use unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of RON 91~94/AKI 87~90 but it may result in slight performancereduction of the vehicle. Except Europe – Unleaded gasoline
with a Pump Octane Rating of 87 (Re- search Octane Number 91) or higher must be used in Hyundai vehicle. If leaded gasoline is used, it will causethe catalytic converter to become inef-fective and the emission control sys- tem to malfunction. This can also result in increased main-tenance expense. To avoid accidental use of leaded fuel, the large nozzle used with leaded gasoline at servicestations can not be inserted into fuel tank opening of your Hyundai. NOTE:
o For some countries, Hyundai ve-
hicles are designed to use leaded gasoline. When you are going to use leaded gasoline, ask toHyundai dealer whether leaded gasoline in your vehicle is avail- able or not.
o Octane rating of leaded gasoline is same with unleaded one.
Use Diesel Diesel fuel of 52 to 54 cetane is the correct rating to use in your Hyundai. Iftwo types of diesel fuel are available, use summer or winter fuel properly according to the following temperatureconditions. CAUTION:
o Do not let any gasoline or water enter the tank. This would make it necessary to drain it out and to bleed the lines to avoid jammingthe injection pump and damag- ing the engine.
o In winter, in order to cut down
incidents due to freezing, paraf-fin oil may be added to the fuel if the temperature drops to below-10°C. Never use more than 20% paraffin oil.
!

FUEL RECOMMENDATIONS
o Above -5°C (23°F) ... Summer typediesel fuel.
o Below -5°C (23°F) ... Winter type diesel fuel.
Watch the fuel level in the tank very carefully : If the engine stops through fuel failure, the circuits must be com-pletely purged to permit restarting.

B010B01A-AAT What About Gasohol? Gasohol (a mixture of 90% unleaded gasoline and 10% ethanol or grainalcohol) may be used in your Hyundai. However, if your engine develops drive ability problems, the use of 100% un-leaded gasoline is recommended. Fu- els with unspecified quantities of alco- hol, or alcohols other than ethanol, should not be used.
B010D01S-AAT Do not Use Methanol Fuels containing methanol (wood al- cohol) should not be used in your Hyundai. This type of fuel can reducevehicle performance and damage com- ponents of the fuel system.
CAUTION:
Your Hyundai's New Vehicle Lim-ited Warranty may not cover dam- age to the fuel system and perfor-mance problems that are caused by the use of methanol or fuels con- taining methanol. B010E01A-AAT Gasolines for Cleaner Air To help contribute to cleaner air, Hyundai recommends that you usegasolines treated with detergent addi- tives, which help prevent deposit for- mation in the engine. These gasolineswill help the engine run cleaner and enhance performance of the Emission Control System. B010F01A-AAT Operation in Foreign Countries If you are going to drive your Hyundai in another country, be sure to:
o Observe all regulations regarding
registration and insurance.
o Determine that acceptable fuel is available. B020A01S-GAT During the First 2,000 Km (1,200 Miles) (Gasoline Engine) No formal "break-in" procedure is re- quired with your new Hyundai. How-ever, you can contribute to the eco- nomical operation and durability of your Hyundai by observing the followingrecommendations during the first 2,000 km (1,200 miles).
o Don't drive faster than 88 km/h (55
mph).
o While driving, keep your engine speed (rpm, or revolutions per minute) between 2,000 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
o Use moderate acceleration. Don't start, depress the accelerator pedalfully.
o For the first 300 km (200 miles), try to avoid hard stops.
o Don't lug the engine (in other words, don't drive so slowly in too high a gear that the engine "bucks":shift to a lower gear).
o Whether going fast or slow, vary your speed from time to time.

44CORROSION PREVENTION AND APPEARANCE CARE
6CLEANING THE INTERIOR
E040A01A-AAT To Clean the Vinyl Upholstery To clean the vinyl upholstery, first re- move loose dirt and dust with a vacuumcleaner. Then apply a solution of mild soap or detergent and water using a clean sponge or soft cloth. Allow this tostay on the surface to loosen the dirt, then wipe with a clean damp sponge or cloth. If all the dirt stains are not re-moved, repeat this procedure until the upholstery is clean. Do not use gaso- line, solvent, paint thinner or otherstrong cleaners. E040B01A-AAT To Clean the Leather Upholstery (If Installed) In the normal course of use, leather upholstered surfaces will, like anymaterial, pick-up dust and dirt. This dust and dirt must be cleaned off or it may work into the surface of the leather, causing damage. Fine leather needs care, and should be cleaned when necessary. Washing leather thoroughly with soap and water will keep your leather lustrous, beauti-ful and ensure you have many years of wear. Take a piece of cheese cloth and usingany mild soap and lukewarm water, work up a good lather. Thoroughly wash the leather. Wipe clean with aslightly damp cloth and dry with soft cloth. Do this as often as the leather becomes soiled. During tanning operations, sufficientoils are incorporated through process-ing that none need be applied during the life of the leather. Oil applied to the finished surface will in no way help theleather and may do more harm than good. Varnishes and furniture polishes should never be used under any con-ditions. E040C01A-AAT Cleaning the Carpets Use a foam-type carpet cleaner. Clean- ers of this type are available in aerosol cans in liquid form or powder. Read theinstructions and follow them exactly. Using a vacuum cleaner with the ap- propriate attachment, remove as muchdirt from the carpets as possible. Apply the foam following the manufacturer's directions, then rub in overlappingcircles. Do not add water. These clean- ers work best when the carpet is kept as dry as possible.

To Check the Coolant Level
The coolant level can be seen on the
side of the plastic coolant reservoir. The level of the coolant should be between the "LOW" and "FULL" lines on the reservoir when the engine iscool. If the level is below the "LOW" mark, add engine coolant to bring it up between "LOW" and "FULL". If thelevel is low, inspect for coolant leaks and recheck the fluid level frequently. If the level drops again, visit yourHyundai dealer for an inspection and diagnosis of the reason. G050D02HP-GAT
To Change the Engine Coolant
The engine coolant should be changed at those intervals specified in the ve- hicle maintenance schedule in Sec- tion 5.
CAUTION:
Engine coolant can damage the fin-ish of your car. If you spill enginecoolant on the car, wash it off thor- oughly with clean water.
1. Park the car on level ground, set the parking brake and remove the radia- tor cap when cool.
G050B01A-DAT
Recommended Engine Coolant
Use a high quality ethylene-glycol cool-ant in a 50/50 mix with water. Theengine coolant should be compatible with aluminum engine parts. Addi- tional corrosion inhibitors or additivesshould not be used. The cooling sys- tem must be maintained with the cor- rect concentration and type of enginecoolant to prevent freezing and corro- sion. Never allow the concentration of antifreeze to exceed the 60% level orgo below the 35% level, otherwise damage to the cooling system may result. For proper concentration whenadding or replacing the engine cool- ant, refer to the following table. HHP5005

CATALYTIC CONVERTER
H020A01A-AAT
; For a Gasoline Engine
All Hyundai vehicles are equipped
with a monolith type three-way cata- lytic converter to reduce the carbonmonoxide, hydrocarbons and nitro- gen oxides contained in the exhaust gas. Exhaust gases passing throughthe catalytic converter may cause it to operate at a very high temperature. The introduction of large amounts ofunburned gasoline into the exhaust may cause the catalytic converter to overheat and create a fire hazard. This risk may be reduced by observ- ing the following: WARNING:
o Use unleaded fuel only.
o Maintain the engine in good operating condition. Extremely high catalytic converter tempera-tures can result from improper operation of the electrical, igni- tion or multiport electronic fuelinjection.
o If your engine stalls, pings, knocks, or is hard to start, have your Hyundai dealer inspect and repair the problem as soon aspossible.
o Avoid driving with a very low
fuel level. Running out of gaso-line may cause the engine to misfire and result in damage to the catalytic converter.
o Avoid idling the engine for peri-
ods longer than 10 minutes.
o The vehicle should not be pushed or pulled to get started. This may cause the catalyticconverter to overheat and cre- ate a fire hazard.
Catalytic Converter
o Do not touch the catalytic con-
verter or any other part of the exhaust system while the cata- lytic converter is hot. Shut off the engine, wait for at least onehour before touching the cata- lytic converter or any other part of the exhaust system.
o Remember that your Hyundai dealer is your best source ofassistance.
o Do not stop your Hyundai over any combustible material suchas grass, paper, leaves or rags. These materials might contact the hot catalytic converter and afire might result.
