2. Block the Wheel
Block the wheel that is diagonally opposite from
the flat to keep the vehicle from rolling when the
car is raised on the jack.

3. Loosen Wheel Nuts
The wheel nuts should be loosened slightly
before raising the car. To loosen the nuts, turn
the wrench handle counterclockwise. When
doing this, be sure that the socket is seated
completely over the nut so it cannot slip off. For
maximum leverage, position the wrench so the
handle is to the left as shown in the drawing.
Then, while holding the wrench near the end of
the handle, push down on it with steady pres-
sure. Do not remove the nuts at this time. Just
loosen them about one-half turn.
HGK193The jack is located behind the right side of
luggage trim. Remove the jack cover by un-
screwing the bolts. Turn the jack end counter-
clockwise to lower the jack height by using a
screw driver or wrench bar and remove it from
the bracket.

o Exhaust Pipe and Muffler
Visually inspect the exhaust pipes, muffler and
hangers for cracks, deterioration, or damage.
Start the engine and listen carefully for any
exhaust gas leakage. Tighten connections or
replace parts as necessary.

o Suspension Mounting Bolts
Check the suspension connections for loose-
ness or damage. Retighten to the specified
torque.

o Steering gear box, linkage &
boots/lower arm ball joint
With the vehicle stopped and engine off, check
for excessive free-play in the steering wheel.
Check the linkage for bends or damage. Check
the dust boots and ball joints for deterioration,
cracks, or damage. Replace any damaged
parts.

o Power Steering Pump, Belt and Hoses
Check the power steering pump and hoses for
leakage and damage. Replace any damaged or
leaking parts immediately. Inspect the power
steering belt for evidence of cuts, cracks, ex-
cessive wear, oiliness and proper tension.
Replace or adjust it if necessary.

o Driveshafts and Boots
Check the drive shafts, boots and clamps for
cracks, deterioration, or damage. Replace any
damaged parts and, if necessary, repack the
grease.

o Air Conditioning Refrigerant
Check the air conditioning lines and connec-
tions for leakage and damage. Check air con-
ditioning performance according to the relevant
shop manual if necessary.
