Information
It should be noted that prolonged
operation of the heater in the recircu-
lated air position (without air condi-
tioning selected) will cause fogging of
the windscreen and side windows and
the air within the passenger compart-
ment will become stale.
In addition, prolonged use of the air
conditioning with the recirculated air
position selected will result in exces-
sively dry air in the passenger com-
partment.
Fan speed control
The ignition switch must be in the ON
position for fan operation.
The fan speed control knob allows
you to control the fan speed of the air
flowing from the ventilation system.
To change the fan speed, turn the
knob to the right for higher speed or
left for lower speed.
i
•Continuous operation of the
climate control system in the
recirculated air position may
allow humidity to increase
inside the vehicle which may
fog the glass and obscure vis-
ibility.
• Do not sleep in a vehicle with
air conditioning or heating
system on. It may cause seri-
ous harm or death due to a
drop in the oxygen level
and/or body temperature.
• Continuous operation of the
climate control system in the
recirculated air position can
cause drowsiness or sleepi-
ness, and loss of vehicle con-
trol. Set the air intake control
to the outside (fresh) air posi-
tion as much as possible
whilst driving.

System maintenance
Climate control air filter
The climate control air filter installed
behind the glove box filters the dust
or other pollutants that come into the
vehicle from the outside through the
heating and air conditioning system.
If dust or other pollutants accumulate
in the filter over a period of time, the
air flow from the air vents may
decrease, resulting in moisture accu-
mulation on the inside of the wind-
screen even when the outside (fresh)
air position is selected. If this hap-
pens, we recommend that the cli-
mate control air filter be replaced by
a HYUNDAI authorised repairer.
Information
• Replace the filter according to theMaintenance Schedule.
If the car is being driven in severe
conditions such as dusty, rough
roads, more frequent climate con-
trol air filter inspections and
changes are required.
• When the air flow rate suddenly decreases, we recommend that the
system be checked by a HYUNDAI
authorised repairer.
It is important that the correct
type and amount of oil and refrig-
erant is used. Otherwise, damage
to the compressor and abnormal
system operation may occur.
Air conditioning refrigerant label
The actual Air Conditioning refriger-
ant label in the vehicle may differ
from the illustration.

Air conditioning system operation
tips
• If the vehicle has been parked indirect sunlight during hot weather,
open the windows for a short time
to let the hot air inside the vehicle
escape.
• Use air conditioning to reduce humidity and moisture inside the
vehicle on rainy or humid days.
• During air conditioning system operation, you may occasionally
notice a slight change in engine
speed as the air conditioning com-
pressor cycles. This is a normal
system operation characteristic.
• Use the air conditioning system every month only for a few minutes
to ensure maximum system per-
formance.
• When using the air conditioning system, you may notice clear water
dripping (or even puddling) on the
ground under the passenger side
of the vehicle. This is a normal sys-
tem operation characteristic. • Operating the air conditioning sys-
tem in the recirculated air position
provides maximum cooling, how-
ever, continual operation in this
mode may cause the air inside the
vehicle to become stale.
• During cooling operation, you may occasionally notice a misty air flow
because of rapid cooling and
humid air intake. This is a normal
system operation characteristic.

• For maximum defrosting, set thetemperature control to the extreme
right/hot position and the fan speed
control to the highest speed.
• If warm air to the floor is desired whilst defrosting or defogging, set
the mode to the floor-defrost posi-
tion.
• Before driving, clear all snow and ice from the windscreen, rear win-
dow, outside rear view mirrors, and
all side windows.
• Clear all snow and ice from the bonnet and air inlet in the cowl grill
to improve heater and defroster
efficiency and to reduce the proba-
bility of fogging up inside of the
windscreen.Manual climate control system
To defog inside windscreen
1. Select any fan speed except “0” position.
2. Select desired temperature.
3. Select the or position.
4. The outside (fresh) air will be select- ed automatically. Additionally, the air
conditioning (if equipped) will auto-
matically operate if the mode is
selected to the position.
If the air conditioning and outside
(fresh) air position are not selected
automatically, press the correspon-
ding button manually.
WINDSCREEN DEFROSTING AND DEFOGGING
Windscreen heating
Do not use the or posi-
tion during cooling operation in
extremely humid weather. The
difference between the temper-
ature of the outside air and that
of the windscreen could cause
the outer surface of the wind-
screen to fog up, causing loss
of visibility. In this case, set the
mode selection knob or button
to the position and fan
speed control knob or button to
lower speed.

Maintenance
ENGINE COOLANT
The high-pressure cooling system
has a reservoir filled with year-round
antifreeze coolant. The reservoir is
filled at the factory.
Check the antifreeze protection and
coolant concentration level at least
once a year, at the beginning of the
winter season, and before travelling
to a colder climate.
• When the engine overheats fromlow engine coolant, suddenly
adding engine coolant may cause
cracks in the engine. To prevent
damage, add engine coolant
slowly in small quantities.
• Do not drive with no engine coolant. It may cause water pump
failure and engine seizure, etc.Checking the engine coolant
level
Check the condition and connections
of all cooling system hoses and
heater hoses. Replace any swollen
or deteriorated hoses. The coolant level should be filled
between MAX and MIN marks on the
side of the coolant reservoir when
the engine is cool.
If the coolant level is low, add enough
distilled (deionised) or soft water.
Bring the level to MAX, but do not
overfill.
If frequent additions are required, we
recommend that the system be inspect-
ed by a HYUNDAI authorised repairer.
